Oh no Pinktulips - what is it with useless bloody plumbers not turning up when they're meant to?! Call that letting agent and let them have it.

Had my 24 week antenatal appointment today (another student midwife - very nice and all but feel like at least half of my antenatal care at St Marys has been with student midwives to date who are useless at finding foetal heartbeats/taking bloods etc) and apparently at 27 weeks I have to go for GTT as they now test all women for gestational diabetes. Does everyone else have to do it too?

Oh, and as for sex - DH is hoping for some tonight as is his birthday today and there has been abit of a sex drought in the dinky household of late (am less worried about baby inside, more about crushing poor DH as feel like a colossal behemoth)....

V of those of you with big sex drives at the moment

spottyshoes · 04/11/2008 17:33

S.E.X???? Erm - must confess to absolutely none during pg from the minute I get a +ive. Have had 4 mc's and we were both too terrified last time. This time? Well DH is a bit more up for it now we have gotten past the crucial stage but he is pissing me off so much he can whistle for it . After spending the whole of our married life TTC/up the duff/postpartum I am enjoying a bit of time off

mrsy · 04/11/2008 18:00

Thanks for the advice - it was pretty much the first time since the BFP that I was up for it, but it felt very unnatural. Think John was rather dissapointed, especially as we were TTC for nearly three years, so we had got to the sex as a chore thing too!

Might see how I feel in the morning .

MS - great news about work.

PT - big fat grrr at your plumber - hope you gave the agency what for...

I had a much better day today, and am now waiting for pizza - yum!

mrsy · 04/11/2008 18:01

Oh - new 3d scan pics on facebook by the way...

thehouseofmirth · 04/11/2008 18:51

Evening!

On the subject of sex Dh has practically had to fight me off for the past 6 months (though he hasn't tried very hard!) In fact it was one of the reasons I first suspected I was PG. I think they often go to sleep aferwards (babies, not men) because it must be a bit like being rocked.

Mrsy there are definitely ways of doing it which help you both to forget that there is someone else there, which is kind of how it feels, though wait until not as unnerving as the day you look up to find your supposedly sleeping baby standing up in their cot spectating...

dinky no ideas about the GTT, it's not been mentioned but I don't even get a 24 week appointment in this pregnancy. My last mw appointment was at 18 weeks and the next one's not until 28 weeks! I do find it strange that there is no standard pattern of care for all PG women.

PT I'm sending warm thoughts your way. Have you considered some visualisation? When we were standing in the freezing rain on Saturday night I realised I was 10 times warmer when I looked at the bonfire even though I was obviously no closer to it. Maybe you could look at a photo of a fire?! Or if your place is rented furnished maybe you could tell your agency that if they don't make the plumber come round you'll start burning the furniture...

MarkStretch · 04/11/2008 18:55

Pink this is for you

mslucy · 04/11/2008 18:58

Evening all.
In much better mood today for following reasons

  1. Man who was horrid about my work was nice about the revised version. So glad I didn't send the abusive email after all
  2. Finished writing lesson plans for teaching sessions on Thurs
  3. Got £50 quid for some market research about health and pregnancy
  4. DS was not a psycho and did not make me cry in Greggs
  5. The lady who works in Greggs said how sorry she felt for me yesterday which stopped me feeling like a neurotic cow
  6. I am just going to order a massive Thai chicken curry (drools)

Now it's time to put DS to bed. Is this where it all goes HORRIBLY WRONG

herbgarden · 04/11/2008 18:59

Oooh sex chat - funny I thought about starting on that subject about a week ago and then wondered if it was TMI.....DH doesn't "do" sex and pregnancy - he worries about the baby and says it all feels a bit unnatural like the baby is watching ....I think that's quite funny but I'd definitely be up for it if I had half a chance .....methinks I'll be waiting a while !......altho' saying that I'm more obsessed with my 9pm bedtime at the moment so that I can get my 8 hours in !....

MarkStretch · 04/11/2008 19:01

Herb- my DH said last night 'Do you think the baby can see my willy?'

mslucy · 04/11/2008 19:21

.

DH expressed similar concerns last time round but this time seems positively hot to trot.

I'm happy to indulge him - it's not in my nature to say no to sex.

The fact we both work from home means there is always time for a quickie, which is no bad thing either!!!

mrsy · 04/11/2008 19:43

MS - he he at your hubby (just thinking how mortified they'd be if they knew we're talking about this...) John was always told it's how babies get dimples, and took a bit of convincing otherwise...

I'm not usually the randiest person in the world - in fact I'm a bit of a bloke: I tend to 'get mine' as we're warming up, and then could quiet happily roll over and sleep!!!

herbgarden · 04/11/2008 20:52

mslucy - both working from home would be much more convenient.....long hours at work and small toddler and a desire to sleeeeeeep.....is a killer for the sex life.

I have the whole day and the whole night off tomorrow !....My lovely mum is taking ds for the day and keeping him all night so that I can have some time to myself (and some kip) - she's already devised an early morning wake plan for ds (she's a star). I'm quite excited. I usually end up dashing around filling the day but I might just slob and potter round my house without a small toddler hanging off my leg demanding food , "tubbytubbies" and "cuggles"

TinkerBellesMum · 04/11/2008 22:05

Sorry I've not checked in for a few days, have been paying my local hospital a visit! Same story, contracting, not dilating has calmed down a bit now. To be honest I don't see me going more than the next month but I'm 27 weeks and that is a milestone so I'm happy that she will be safe. I'm just anxious waiting now.

I blame eachpeachpearmum! I was at antenatal class on Monday and we broke into groups to discuss something and one of our group said "You're TinkerBellesMum aren't you? I'm eachpeachpearmum!" She and the teacher told me to have a boring week and I started having contractions soon after! It turned out after chatting for awhile it is a very small world!

I tried to catch up but there's been too many posts.

swampster · 04/11/2008 22:24

Hang on in there, girlie!

thehouseofmirth · 04/11/2008 23:01

HI TBM glad you're out & Fifi isn't! You haven't missed much, just lots of car crashes adn now the tone has been lowered by lots of talk about sex!

Herbgarden you need to be more creative! And don't wait until bedtime when youe'e obviously much more interested in sleep than anything else. I think co-sleeping is a great incentive to be more inventive with regard to location and it's amazing what can be achieved with a Bob the Builder video and a large tub of strawberries in the Mirth house (for DS not DH & I)

TinkerBellesMum · 04/11/2008 23:19

TBD has banned me [cries] Sunday night he had a seperate quilt and when I tried to give him a hug when I got in bed he put my hand back on my side I don't see the problem as long as nothing is happening at the time.

THOM, are the strawberries for DS too?

herbgarden · 05/11/2008 07:22

THOM you're brave although I'm not sure DS would let DH give me a cuggle and not him !!....could be interesting !

dinkystinky · 05/11/2008 08:54

Morning all. DH decided last night he'd much rather get some sleep and get up at 4am to watch the US election results (weird man) so demanded a birthday shag later in the week instead... as is my birthday tomorrow (expensive week in the dinky household) may be will kill two birthday shag-birds with one stone (or should that be bone )

TBM - glad Fifi is still in there and fabulous that you've made it to 27 weeks already. Fingers crossed she hangs on in there until the end of the month like Tink did.

Silly woman from crash eventually called DH back yesterday and said she hadnt called back as she was leaving it to her insurers to call DH (though she still didnt have their details ). Car going into garage today to assess the damage - fingers crossed we'll have it back by next weekend as meant to be going up to my parents in Nottinghamshire to collect the world of little baby paraphernalia they are kindly storing for us....

not been on for ages, i am rubbish at keeping up! the sex talk has amused me this morning, especially markstretch do you think the baby can see my willy? i really nearly peed my pants!!!!

Been having pains in my belly not sure whether its baby related or wind / constipation ihave always suffered with digestive problems has me doubled over sometimes in pain, thinking of having food intolerence testing, anyone else had similar?

She is kicking about so much love it feels very reassuring. Nice to post will make more effort to come and keep up x

PinkTulips · 05/11/2008 11:29

o gods..... i thought i was having too easy a ride this preg and i was right.

bump had a growth spurt and it's so sore all across the top and my ribs are aching

3 months suddenly seems like a very long time to feel like this, i'm so not designed for this whole gestating thing!

still no plumber and i'm minding a friends child for the afternoon so stuck in the house again and i really can't afford to light a fire all day every day... not that the fire warms more than a square foot of space in front of it anyway [sigh]

i think i'm actually losing my mind, i keep imagining i hear a car pull in out front and jumping up excitedly thinking it's the plumber and looking out the window to find there's nothing out there but cows and mist.....

thehouseofmirth · 05/11/2008 12:45

Morning!

Feel I should clarify that they BtB video and strawberries are to keep DS busy and happy while DH and I are "otherwise engaged" and not part of some strange perversion!

Oh PT have you spoken to your agent today? Do they know you have children and are pregnant? Have you tried crying? Think how much colder you'd be if your weren't pregnant!

laidbackinengland · 05/11/2008 13:29

PT...hoping that plumber shifts up to yours pronto !

I am sooooo tired. Went to bed late last night and up early tomorrow. This morning have been to GP's surgery 3 times, twice for GTT and once to see the midwife. All OK, measuring ok for dates and heartbeat all fine. Then picked up DS2 from school and put DS3 down for a nap although I am the one feeling sleepy ! Off to a friends for fireworks tonight so hoping to get DS2 ro come and doze on the sofa with me for some of the afternoon.
