Hi, I'm also on the June thread but officially my due date would be 4th July 2009 so thought I'd better set up a thread for all these summer babies.

Got 3 BFP's yesterday although technically I am only 3+2 weeks. Would love to symptom spot with fellow early testers. Surely there must be more of us out there !! I can't be the first

Hello all, hoping I can join you properly but don't add me to stats list yet (have had a few m/c). Due date 8th July so see I have some pg buddies Symptoms so far are sore breasts, mild nausea and heartburn. Oh spotty too (unusual for me). Is cheesecake ok to eat in pg? Just wondering. Didn't think it was because of the soft cheese.

mavornia · 21/11/2008 11:04

hi ladylush - fingers crossed that it all goes well for you!

christiana, the lure of snow is too much to resist - can't wait to hurl myself headlong into all things Christmassy. I've always loved Christmas but since moving to egypt i've become a festive freak

i think i'll cope ok with the monkey/octopus hybrid that passes for ds - if there is no other risk i might just suck up the discomfort and head home - will be there til middle of january so plenty fo time to recover

Andie01 · 21/11/2008 13:15

Hi all,

Can I join you? Got BFP yesterday and still in slight shock! Due date is 23rd July

This will be no. 2 for me (fingers and everything else crossed!), have a ds who is 25 months.

Feeling ok so far but still very early so plenty of time for that to change!! Have noticed that my tummy already appears bigger and my jeans are a bit tight but that might be more to do with chocolate than anything else !!!

hobnob57 · 21/11/2008 13:40

I think, in my scientific estimation, that all this lack of ms this week must be weather-related. We've all got it! I haven't felt sick since Tuesday night and haven't needed to snack obsessively to fend off impending nausea. All very worrying, but welcome too. I refuse to get paranoid.

Congrats to all the new bfps and happy scans

Mavornia, I think you'll be fine flying. In my dim recollection, I just remember the discomfort of super-bloating but not much else. Say Hi to Belfast for me - I'm originally a Lisburn girl!

Saw the MW this morning and should hear about my scan date within a couple of weeks. I'm hoping for just after Xmas, but had also hoped to book flights to Belfast that week and can't now! No abdominal examination, just blood pressure, weight and wee. Apparently they send off your urine sample now for UTI testing, as UTIs can go unnoticed in early pregnancy (peeing more often anyway, increased blood flow to pelvic area eliminates symptoms) and UTIs have been linked to early miscarriage. Good on the ol' NHS!

A biology teacher here... feeling a little inferior amongst the high fliers

Christiana - I remember my mouth feeling like sandpaper last time and this was part of my MS - I couldn't eat anything as it just rolled around my mouth and didn't dissolve! Hope it passes soon. I was dreaming about that sour-sweet-type feeling in your mouth when the saliva seems to suck itself out of your cheeks just before you are horridly sick. Nice. Love pg dreams.

kookykid · 21/11/2008 13:44

Can I join too??

Just got my BFP today after nearly a year of trying, so very pleased! Already have a DD of 20 months.

lastboxoftampons · 21/11/2008 14:00

lastboxoftampons · 21/11/2008 15:03

Oh goodness, I got so excited about Kooky, I completely ignored everyone else!

Hi Andie and Ladylush Congratulations! and Welcome!!

ladylush · 21/11/2008 15:07

Hi lastbox - you are on my knickercheckers thread I believe

bedhed · 21/11/2008 15:09

well after an absence of 4 or 5 days my MS is back with a vengeance today, so i suppose it does fluctuate (and the weather has changed today hobnob so you might be right!)

Welcome to Andie, Kooky and ladylush

Ladylush i ate loads of cheesecake in my last pregnancy as was craving sugary foods i thought that it was only soft cheese with rind on that was not safe to eat

Christiana how wonderful to have snow! i am in the south so not much chance here but do love it. Hope your thirst thing dies down a bit soon

Count your lucky stars - dd and I have just had to battle a blizzard to get to tescos to satisfy my new craving for bacon fries.

She wasn't impressed, stating "snowiswhite go away". I might change my name to snowiswhite - it tickled me, the state-the-obvious nature of it!

Belgrano · 21/11/2008 17:08

Hi and congrats to Kooky, Andie and Ladylush
Sick as a dog today (yippee!). Started scoffing those jelly fruits from M&S - they are all soft and sqodgy and tangy sugar coated. Mmmmm so nice.
Now here's something really idiotic - we're having a supper party tomorrow night and for some reason I decided to do Nigella's 24 hour roast pork (I think because it requires v little attention at the other end - when getting ready to eat so that appealed.) Anyway, so my house will smell of roasting pig for the next 24 hours. HOW STUPID of me! Might have to move out since meat is gross to me now.....Doh....

ladylush · 21/11/2008 17:16

Ha ha a house smelling of roasting pig Yes, meat a bit funny tasting right now. I had some meatballs yesterday but felt queasy after eating them. Wrt advice on foods to avoid, I am confused to say the least. I read cheesecake is not ok.....not because of the cheese funnily enough, but the eggs. I googled mussels as I am going out tonight and fancy eating them. Now I avoided these throughout my pg with ds but according to the info I read today they are fine so long as they are cooked thoroughly and shells open. Yum Cheese: there is a whole list of cheese to avoid. Not just cheese with rind either. No sorbet I love sorbet.

ladylush · 21/11/2008 17:25

christiana I've been very thirsty too. Weird.
Sorbet - because of eggs. Everything I've read says to avoid raw or partially cooked eggs.

hobnob57 · 21/11/2008 17:35

My thinking this pg is to be more pragmatic about these things. I've never been ill from food and have never heard of anyone catching salmonella from cheesecake. Turkey, yes, but cheesecake no!

I had to eat some cheesecake last weekend when at a do whilst sitting at the same table as my boss. Didn't want to draw attention to myself. And it had bailey's in it too... does that make me reckless?

Mij · 21/11/2008 17:40

Welcome to all the newbies

Right - I have Useful Information about cheese. For some reason, during my last pg, I become The One In Charge of Safe Cheese, and hunted out a 'definitive' (ie at the moment, in the UK, thought to be the right advice) list and reasons why some are fine and some aren't.

Ahem.

The general rule is:

NO to mould-ripened soft cheese, regardless of whether it's made with pasturised milk, and blue cheese

YES to hard cheese, even if it's made with unpasturised milk (eg parmesan).

Because - it's the bacteria introduced after pasturisation, in the cheese-making process that can be dodgy.

Cheesecake is interesting. If it's homemade and uses fresh, uncooked eggs, then probably best avoided. If, however, it's from a shop, it may even say on the pack that the egg is pasturised (like in commercially made mayonnaise) in which case you're probably fine.

However, when I got a bit picky about this, I'd remind myself that the risks are very low and there are probably loads of gorgeously pregnant french women, lounging in a spa with a glass of red wine in one hand and a lump on brie in the other, laughing their socks off.

BTW, I'm a bit cagey about personal info cos it's a bit specialist and I enjoy my anonymity here [swishes cape dramatically] but it's probably safe to say I work in the arts!

PG symptoms fluctuating wildly here too. Was convinced I'd had a mmc this morning, then sick as a parrot (giving the dogs a rest) this pm.

Mij · 21/11/2008 17:42

No that they'd be wearing socks in a spa, of course...

Mij · 21/11/2008 17:47

And for those who like references, that advice was from a (badly photocopied) list from the Centre for Pregnancy Nutrition, which is part of Sheffield University. So I felt quite confident they'd be pretty up to date.

If anyone would like the full info sheet, I'll dig it out and type it up!

mavornia · 21/11/2008 17:59

hello hobnob! and everyone else - there are going to be a lot of bouncing summer babies!

good luck with supper party, belgrano - i had 25 of dh's relatives round last Friday. If only I had known I was pregnant then I could have saved myself a lot of sweat and toil for the friggers sods old dears

just back from dinner with in-laws (not a hint of nausea yet). I cried in the car on the way home because dh sat and stuffed his face and I didn't get to eat a bite because I had to look after ds who was acting up and wanted to go outside to see the poor caged monkey and the crocodile (it's egypt, don't ask...)

still, he bought me a cappuccino and apologised profusely

mavornia · 21/11/2008 18:01

ps thanks for all the cheese info, mij - very handy, was just wondering about that

mavornia · 21/11/2008 18:02

pps - mij, I hope you're not Amanda Holden in rl - in which case retract my comment about her being awful

ponders who mij could possibly be...

kookykid · 21/11/2008 19:19

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Due date unclear, but def end of July. However, should add that my DD was nearly a month late, so may well be an August baby.

Re cheese info, have look at this

How early did anyone get their first signs of nausea? Feeling pretty ropey.
