Afternoon All, sweetbroody and Febes I remember feeling a lot of lower abdominal pain at the end of my first trimester both other times. Not a sharp pain or anything that would be cause for worry but more like a dull ache. My doc at the time said that it was the uterus and tendons/muscles around the uterus stretching and very normal.

Agree about the bananas - my sister's DD suffers with terrible constipation and the nutritionist banned bananas from the house - bind everything together too much apparently! (Sorry tmi!).

As far as cheese goes agooboo I actually think all cheese is OK as long as it's pasteurised. I think the whole no soft/blue cheese was for when traditionally these cheeses were not pasteurised so could be dodgy - but now at least in the UK, they have to be so I'm pretty sure they are OK. I could be wrong though, so if anyone knows better please do jump in!

Really interesting to hear about people feeling movement - I have really thought a few times that I have felt a flutter. Not a kick or anything but just like a little wriggle almost. I was researching it online and though everywhere I read that you felt it earlier with 2nd/3rd pregnancies, nowhere did it mention feeling it this early. I'm sure it could just be gas or whatever, but it just really didn't feel like anything else, so with all your back up I'm going to think of it as my bean - much more fun that way true or not

Momino · 31/10/2008 16:28

MrsEvs - american choc is terrible. my mom keeps sending me hersheys and I keep telling her I prefer chocolate here, now. I did give dd2 a hershey Kit Kat today from a treat parcel from home but dd isn't really a chocolate conosseur (no idea how to spell that) yet.

i do miss proper ranch dressing/dip and root beer. my family sends me parcels of them from time to time. do your family do the same from here?

Momino · 31/10/2008 16:32

apparently, anything mould-ripened (eg brie, camembert) carries the risk of listeria as well as cured meats like salami, parma ham. not sure if risk still exists if you cook it.

i've just had a pasteurised cheese but it was mould ripened. may have been risky but i ate it anyway. i do know from my nurse friend that, although it's not terribly common to get listeria, it's a horrible thing.

i went on holiday to italy when pregnant with dd1 and ate loads of unpasteurised things as well as cured meats. it was worth it! and luckily I and dd1 didn't suffer for it.

MrsEvs · 31/10/2008 16:45

Momino yes whenever someone comes to visit we get Branston Pickle, Marmite, HP sauce, Heinz salad cream etc! and top up parcels if need be! Where are you from in the US?

Momino · 31/10/2008 16:57

i'm from Ohio and have been in the UK for 11 years exactly today! DH is from Manchester and I moved over when we married. wouldn't mind moving back just to get some space. Things are so much bigger over there.

I do love where we live, though, in York. Just miss my family. And root beer.

How long have you been there? Am I right you're in DC? I love that city. very political, though. i've just posted my presidential ballot, speaking of politics. glad to be away from all the election fever though there's quite a lot of coverage here.

MrsEvs · 31/10/2008 16:58

Oooh - just looked up about the cheese thing (UK Food Standards agency) and you are right Momino - soft cheeses can develop the bugs after being pasteurised, so though it's very unlikely, there is the chance of Listeria. Thanks for correcting me!

It does say as a follow up though that any are OK as long as they are cooked all the way through because this would kill the listeria, and any other bugs.

MrsEvs · 31/10/2008 17:04

I haven't been to Ohio yet (though I have 2 good friends from there). My DH is also from Manchester (Denton)! We've been in the US 5 yrs now. Spent to first year in Mystic, CT and the rest of the time in DC, yes. I have to say the election fever esp. in this neck of the woods has reached fever pitch, can't wait for it to be over!

Definately more space here, even in DC which is an expensice city by US standards, our house is twice the size we could afford in the UK sadly.

Must run to pick up DD1 from preschool!

Momino · 31/10/2008 17:08

Mystic CT sounds lovely (remember from Julia roberts 1st film, Mystic Pizza).

About cheese: glad to know about it being cooked through - I assume this means I can have brie toasted under the grill. or macaroni and cheese made with bleu cheese.

Jools1 · 31/10/2008 17:21

mmmmm - I'm salivating about the possibility of brie and bacon paninis being "legal"

SweetBROODY · 31/10/2008 17:28

Hmm not sure about the whole cooked thing...

Wouldnt it have to be cooked all the way through?

I would check with an expert if I hadnt had it until now.. just to be on the safe side!

detsy · 31/10/2008 17:42

Woo Hoo - got my blood results which has pushed my stats down to 1:2890 which I'm really happy with and insist on chilling out now.

DP out with boys tonight and staying out so going to snuggle on sofa with a blanket once DD in bed. Having a little party for her tomo as its her 1st birthday next week - time has gone so so fast.
Happy Halloween to all!!

SweetBROODY · 31/10/2008 18:01

Detsy thats great news :0

MrsEvs · 31/10/2008 18:22

Excellent news detsy congrats

Yes sweetbroody according to the Food Standards agency it does have to be cooked all the way through, but as long as that's the case, it's OK.

MrsEvs · 31/10/2008 18:24

(Oh and Momino, Mystic Pizza actually exists - did before the movie, we used to live right opposite it and it was indeed great pizza )

SweetBROODY · 31/10/2008 18:40

Cooloio... Its good to know!

I dont seem to trust restauraunts at all at the moment though.. but it doesnt help that all the smells make me feel so yuck!

MrsEvs · 31/10/2008 18:48

Very true, I'd probably want to do it myself - though I agree the smell of anything at all cooking makes me feel so horribly sick at the moment. Last night I was doing sausages for the kids and had to put a mask around my face because I felt so awful. Roll on 2nd trimester!

sweetbroody when my mum recently was suffering with the runs.. the BRAT diet was recommended to help bung her up.. basically bananas, rice, apples, toast. bananas really bung up ds if he doesn't drink enough fluids.

i was out for a family lunch today as it's my dad's 75th birthday today. still pretty full now so think i'll just have a bit of my lentil and veg soup i made yesterday. wore my new isabella oliver wrap top today and it made me feel glamorous. so comfy but one drawback i now want to buy more!

detsy · 31/10/2008 20:05

dandylion yes i got your mail - thanks, I was sure I responded to it, did i not? Gosh if not I'm really sorry I agree with all that you said and am glad we are "in tune"!!

Well my jojo clothes arrived today - a fair few of them went straight back as not at all worth the money and think they are made for gorillas with 8 ft long arms! Got my cards out again and may do a spot of internet shopping in peace now that DP has gone out and DD is finally snoozing!

Got a bad cough again so unfortunately back with the Tena lady for the moment

Just found some ancient ben and jerrys vanilla in the back of the freezer...mmm mmm

Right off to look at seraphine and melba, will try to be good....

llareggub · 31/10/2008 20:41

I'm 13 weeks today and I feel so much better. All of my energy has come back and I feel great! I've even got the ironing mountain basket out.

I received my IO order today and I'm sure the packaging was the most beautiful I've ever seen. All tissue paper and ribbons and a lovely 15% off voucher if I spend over £85 on my next order...as if! It is a dress that I need for my friend's wedding just before christmas when I will be 20 weeks, and because I had 20% off I bought a lovely pair of leggings too.

Bad news is that my car was broken into last night, which DH discovered this morning at 5.30am. Unfortunately my blackberry and purse had fallen out of my handbag and I'd forgotten to bring them in, so I lost those. Grr. We are worried because our house alarm went off for no reason the night before, and I'm afraid that it is all connected.

detsy · 31/10/2008 20:41

Anyone got any Seraphine discount codes... would be really good if you had!!

detsy · 31/10/2008 20:45

Oh Llare you poor thing thats so horrid it just feels like such a violation of your privacy. I'm sure now they have got away with something they will hopefully leave you alone. Stay safe hun.

On the up side at least you are feeling better and have more energy - I'm the same, its a relief hey?

I think it was opportunistic. Went around and told all of the neighbours including the lovely old lady around the corner. She told me that someone had stolen the contents of her freezer, which she keeps in her garage!

I used to live in the centre of a large city where really nothing ever happened. I now live in a lovely little market time and nearly all the houses in my street have been burgled in some form. It's very scary.

Still, I've managed to avoid trick or treaters this evening and I have a nice glass of milk on the go. How times have changed!

LoobyLou36 · 31/10/2008 21:18

Evening ladies. Hope everyone is having a relaxing evening. sweetbroody I second everyone else - wash your hair if you want to you'll feel so much better. My boobs have also been really sore today - must be the cold. However I did finally go and get measured today for a maternity bra and I bought one. So much better I now know why I was so uncomfortable have gone from a 38B to a 38D! Blimey! No wonder hubby is happy!
