I'm still feeling sick all the time.. at 10 weeks I thought it would reduce boobs are achy as well When will I be able to eat Pizza again without feeling icky! Some reason I am fine with fruits and veg but "naughty" food is making me ill

SweetBROODY · 30/10/2008 12:56

She says its tradition i've already not washed it for 8 weeks feel soooooo sicky with it.. I just crave that clean hair feeling... I cant imagine not washing it for another 20 odd weeks

LoobyLou36 · 30/10/2008 13:08

Not washing your hair? that's just weird . Why not?

can you really not colour your hair? My roots need doing.

Febes · 30/10/2008 13:14

I do colour my hair but they advise not to I try to only do it a couple of times. But if I didn't I would be grey

zuka · 30/10/2008 13:23

Febes - no, they can't tell so early! i kind of go back and forth between calling the baby he or she and even it! i think he/she will be ok with that

Looby, i'm not an expert, but all my books say colouring your hair is more than safe! they do say pregnant hair reacts slightly differently to the colouring (and or perm) though and you might end up with a slightly different shade than you are used to...

can't imagine not washing my hair for 3 days, forget 8 weeks!! that's just crazy as far as i go (not trying to be mean or anything)

my favourite weird food since yesterday night (had it for lunch today too) has been a sandwich made with bread, butter, sweet pepper and some salt so good! kinda healthy too, with the peppers

SweetBROODY · 30/10/2008 13:31

I cant seem to enjoy any of the foods I normally like I think i've lost weight as well...

Keep battling a cold! I sound like such a grump - but I am so fed up!

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 13:36

Well hello ladies!
I have good news and bad news.
Bad news is they couldn't do the CVS this morning - my uterus/placenta/bladder/dancing baby were all in the wrong place and despite 2 hours of filling/emptying/part-filling/emptying my bladder (very tedious and uncomfortable) they still couldn't get the right 'line' into my placenta without puncturing the sac or stabbing the baby.
The consultant came in to try to do the procedure and fiddled about for ages and eventually declared it too risky. (I think my uterus is a weird shape and also my placenta isn't very thick in the area they needed to access).
BUT the good news is he blew the pic of the baby up on the screen so it was massive (about the size of an actual new born) and did a very detailed scan looking at nasal bone and nuchal thickness etc. I said 'I was told you didn't do that here' and he said 'Well, I've just done it. We're not supposed to offer it, but I've just done it and although I'm not telling you the figure it's totally normal"/
They have given me a date for 4 wks time to go back and get an amnio (which is much easier to do than CVS apparently). But now I'm wondering whether I will. I just have a really positive feeling that this baby doesn't have downs and is ok. Plus the top man in the hospital has pronounced it's bits and pieces to look totally normal as far as he is concerned. I know this isn't absolutely conclusive but gives me huge reassurance.
Oh well, have another 4 wks to decide.
Congrats to all who have had scans etc too - its so lovely to see them. I thought I was 11+5 today but baba was 56mm which they said was 12 wks. Guess a day or so doens't really make a difference. Baby was jumping about all over, really really cute and has a profile identical to DD2. DH thought he could see a willy , - turns out it was the cord - duh! The consultant thought this was very funny!
Just had a bagel, sliced apple and cheddar cheese pieces for lunch. Yum.
Wondering what to have for pudding ......Cornettos in the freezer but for some reason just don't fancy one.
Had a cheese omlette for dinner last night - what is it with us and our cheese fetishes? Haven't made myself an omlette for about 5 years...........was absolutely delicious.
Sorry, it's been another essay!

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 13:42

By the way (sorry, I'm back again!)
Advice - be wary using fake tan when pg. I used my normal brand during last pg and was totally streaky and bizarre. Apparently (my beauty therapist) told me your skin has a diffent ph or something which reacts with it. Exersise caution. (sorry terrible spelling, am rushing).

Also have a new Isabella Oliver discount code valid until end of November. Type in RTC89 for 15% off when you spend over £85 (easily done)!
Happy shopping.

FiKelly · 30/10/2008 13:46

zuka great new about your scan

frazzle delighted to hear consultant gave you such good news... phew what a relief.

I had a nightmare of a day yesterday with nausea but thankfully today it's eased off. I made a huge (& I mean huge) bowl of popcorn last night and scoffed the lot!

The only problem with feeling better is i'm now fit enough to take my mum round sainsbury's to do her food shopping oh well... at least it will occupy DS and i can pick up a few munchies...

SweetBROODY · 30/10/2008 13:52

Frazzle that is fantastic! It sounds like it went well despite tthe issues! really happy for you...

SweetBROODY · 30/10/2008 13:55

Which Pregnancy sites is everyone using? Is there a good one that shows what the baby actually looks like at each week that isnt a drawing but an acutal scan?

When is everyone going to start antenatal classes etc.?

I'm so clueless with this being my first

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 13:55

Thanks FiKelly
Enjoy your shopping........pick me up some more bagels while you're there - I like the cinnamon and raison kind. Ta

Jools1 · 30/10/2008 14:00

Sounds like reasonably positive news then Frazzled

I just went to the sandwich shop for a huge cheese and ham toastie Got hailed on in the process - grrrrr

Sweetbroody - I use the pregnancy calendar on Babycentre.co.uk - not sure if that is a drawing or scans but I quite like the site anyway

As for antenatal classes - I have no idea when they are supposed to start, but my midwife mentioned that she would give me details of NHS classes in my area and remind me to book, so I'll let you know when she does !!

OP posts:
frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 14:04

SweetBroody - crossed posts there. Thanks
I'm not really using an other pregnancy sites but am sure there are masses out there. Have a rummage through Google - bet you'll find something. Actually I think there's one called Babycenter? which gives lots of info.

Antenatal classes come much later on - ask your midwife when you can put your name down, but usually its more like 7 or 8 months I think. You can also join the NCT and go to private classes as well (much more detailed and informative than the usual NHS ones - or certainly they were in my experience). But again, I think you'll be looking at about 32 wks onward for them (although depending on area and demand you may need to book in early as sometimes they get very booked up). NCT is online and should give plenty of info on your local groups etc. I met some lovely friends through NCT with my first baby - so it was worth it for that. Then (8 yrs ago) I think it was about £100 for the private classes. Don't know what it costs these days.
(It was all a bit 'natural birthy' and things like epidurals and c/sections weren't really encouraged. But lots of good info if you can ignore the 'knit your own yogurt' lot.) My experience was slightly weird as our NCT teacher got really freaked out when she realised that I was a midwife - and spent the rest of the classes asking me questions to check she was telling everyone the correct info, which wasn't really what I wanted out of the class!!! - I was only there to make friends and get DH involved.

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 14:06

Thanks jools - I feel quite cheerful about it now and much more positive about it all being ok.

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 14:13

Sorry, just re-read my post about NCT - didn't mean to be rude about the 'knit your own yogurt' lot -I just meant that half my NCT class ended up having C/Sections (emergencies) and they were made to feel a bit like failures by some of the others who had birthed naturally in 3 hrs in a pool with their naked husbands and no pain relief. IYSWIM. And so I tended to side with the C/Section lot because I don't agree with making people feel inferior just because of their (involuntary) birth method. And by the way I'd had an easy labour with DD1 so could quite easily have qualified for the 'natural birth' medal that time! Clever, clever me.
Not so clever when it came to DD2 though

But sorry if I've offended anyone.

zuka · 30/10/2008 14:24

NCTs do book up early - my midwife advised to book asap (read straight after the 12 weeks scan or as soon as you are comfortable otherwise). Re. dates, the NCT people recommended a course on april 18th-19th (we are going for the weekend one) for me (due 14th may). the weekend course where i am is 280 pounds and the evening one is 250. that's two people, 10 evening classes or smth like that. i'm quite looking forward to that actually! suuuuch a long way away! shame

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/10/2008 14:33

Blimey that's gone up loads! MIne was £100 I'm sure and that was for the course of 10 evening classes in Edinburgh. MInd you it was nearly 8 yrs ago. That makes me feel SO SO OLD!

Jools1 · 30/10/2008 14:36

Anyone getting really achy teeth ?? I ate lunch about half an hour ago and now they are aching. Did it last night aswell, after a curry - was really quite painful.

Febes · 30/10/2008 14:43

I did NHS classes last time and found that they were fine. We had 5 classes at the hospital in the parent ed room over 5 weeks the best part was meeting a great group of people we still see lots of each other now and being right next to the post natal ward we saw loads of brand new babies taken home. Cute!!
I also did a one day active birth class which was brilliant lots of breathing, positions and good info. The antenatal yoga teacher I went to who was also a Doula did it and DH and I found it great.
This time I'm doing a one night refresher course for second timers. Its also NHS and just to meet people really and see the hospital as its a different one than last time. I've booked in for april I think.
I am a memebr of the NCT but find their courses very expensive so its NHS all the way for me.

zuka · 30/10/2008 15:02

frazzle, this is central london, this could be part of the reason?

Jonesy68 · 30/10/2008 15:15

Hello everyone. Am in a horrible situation and would really appreciate some advice....

Am 11.1 wks pg now and called for appt for nuchal scan... expecting it to be nxt week but it's not til 18TH NOVEMBER!!! Gutted it's so far away, I'll be 14 wks. Yesterday my friend - who got pg (her 4th) while we were all on a family holiday together in Italy in Aug - had MC (she was 10wks) .

Now I am just desperate to see a heartbeat so I know it's ok. Called GP but they say nothing they can do it's too early to get heartbeat without scan and that I just have to wait the nxt 3 wks.

Any advice greatly received.....

zuka · 30/10/2008 15:20

jonesy, private scan?

Jools1 · 30/10/2008 15:21

Jonesy - all I could suggest is paying for a private scan if you are in a position to do so - they do them for around £75 where I live. Otherwise, I guess it is a waiting game

I know how you must be feeling - desperate to see beanie - will be 10 wks on Friday - and scan is on Nov 11th

OP posts:
Jonesy68 · 30/10/2008 15:23

Yes, considering private scan. They are £110 where I live. But I realise that's not much in Isabella Oliver terms.... Think I will do that. Gutted tho, was really geared up to get date of nxt week.

Will call tomorrow and see if can get booked in. Will be worth it for the peace of mind...
