Flippineck the more I tell my story, the more I hear about undiagnosed breeches. I guess it must be quite hard to diagnose, but am still amazed no one notice even when I got to hospital and had an internal at 5cm dilated.
They tried shoving her leg back inside me three times to enable a breech vaginal delivery (no pain relief at this stage) before conceeding defeat and whisking me off quickly for a general.

flippineck · 27/10/2008 20:55

Blimey Reggiee, that doesn't sound like a whole heap of fun!

DD fooled everyone, she was really curled up with her head tucked in under my ribs. I had a few moments when I thought she was breech because when I was lying in bed sometimes she kind of uncurled a bit. But I didn't trust my instincts and trusted the mws and gp who had felt my bump. I'll truct myself more next time!

I've heard of a few undiagnosed breeches too, but nearly all have ended in c-sections. I really glad, and really lucky that our experience was as it was. I know someone who knows the consultant who let me carry on labouring, and apparently if it had been any of the other consultants on duty that day then it would have gone straight to section. All the diagnosed breeches I know have been c-section too, no chance of labour at all.

I've done quite a bit of reading since the birth so I know what to fight for and what is realistic I think. I'm sure the next one will be breech too - my mum had three breech babies.

llareggub · 27/10/2008 21:35

I had an emergency c-section last time at 37 weeks. It healed remarkably quickly, and was driving after 4 weeks. I'm in two minds about whether to go for a VBAC or an elective c-section. Neither option seems particularly appealing, but the thought of the post c-section hospital stay really does not appeal!

Would love a water-birth but I've been told by the midwife that I'll be monitored carefully throughout, so a waterbirth isn't an option. Will have a word with my consultant on the 14th November when I see him. He is actually less interventionist than the midwives, and a lovely chap to boot.

Just bought some leggings and a dress from IO, and had a lovely 20% off, ending tomorrow.

detsy · 27/10/2008 21:55

Ladies, ladies - chill with the birth stuff! I'm no earth mother type but found hypnobirthing cds FAB and TBH if I can give birth with nothing (gas and air made my mouth so dry) and I was induced which is supposedly more painful than normal labour - than anyone on here can do it easy peesy. I am really looking forward to it - course it hurts but its so worth it!

Whoever was asking about second births being quicker if cs first time round - I think that is the case just if it was a vbac first time. But i guess that depends if you laboured or not, hmmm unsure actually. Will have to research!

Right off to do some ironing for trip to Germany tomo - def will be in comfy preggers clothes.

MsG · 27/10/2008 22:00

Gateau, so sorry to hear your devastating news. I had a miscarriage last year. Hope you have the support you need to get through this difficult time.

Jools, your dream is brilliant - let's hope it's a premonition!!

Was feeling very hormonal over the weekend, up and down at the drop of a hat. Feeling better today. Bit fed-up of the sickness/hunger gnawing feelings though.

Congrats to those who have had great scans!

Just under 2 weeks till mine. V nervous but trying to stay positive. x

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 22:01

llareggub I fancy a water birth too. Couldn't do it last time as there was no room in our apartment to set pool up and worried if we sprung a leek as we're on the 1st floor! Our local MLU didn't offer those fascilities either but didn't matter in the end anyway with the EM CS

This time we have to go under consultant too and that hospital does have the facility. Don't even know who'll be my consultant yet... suppose MW will organise that when I see her next wk. Haven't told DH yet about WB... don't think he'll mind as long as consultant says ok

llareggub · 27/10/2008 22:03

fikelly I asked the MW for the same consultant as I had with DS1 and she was more than happy to refer me to him, although I suspect he probably is the only one anyway! I am looking forward to seeing him and showing him my unassisted pregnancy!

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 22:04

detsy which hypno cds did you use... i'm intrigued

frazzledoldbag34 · 27/10/2008 22:28

I'm vaguely thinking about hypnobirthing too - either that or an epidural!
I know a friend of a friend who hypnobirthed her 3rd at home, in the bath, with only her husband to help (by accident) as she was so relaxed! Midwife had been to the house to check her about 1 hour earlier but told her she wasn't in labour as she was far too chilled out! ha ha, baby was born shortly after - (all fine, in case you were wondering). Midwife was a bit miffed when she found out she'd missed it!
Not sure I'd be up for that though - might ruin my beautiful new carpets. And DH would be traumatised!
And I did love my walking epidural last time.
But tell me about the hypno birth stuff anyway ...................maybe it could work for me too?

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 22:36

divedaisy & MsG when we were talking kntting/crochet the other day I completely forgot I know a site that has loads of free designs for babies/children/adults aready... sorry am I allowed to have baby brain already?!

It's www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/kategori_oversikt.php and there are all gauges and garments/blankets to choose from

detsy · 27/10/2008 23:18

Done ironing and off to bed now as up at 5

I used natalhypnotherapy.co.uk series. If I remember right we can kind of start now with the relaxation ones and plinky plonk music. I have them on my ipod and am going to start listening again to the first cd. I found it generally relaxing anyway (hate flying as got claustrophobia and use this on planes a lot to chill out with!)

My hospital don't do walking epidurals - all or nothing, I really want a natural water birth but only one pool so guess its the luck of the draw on the day

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 08:26

detsy I think she used the natalhypnotherapy series too actually. The woman I know that used it did practise it all the time though (she doesn't work and has lots of free time for facials etc) and really got into it. Not sure I have the time for that? Although I really could do with a facial.........Did you practise it a lot?
She also used the hypnobirthing thing when she had to have the baby turned from breech - the consultant said he'd never done it so easily before as she was so relaxed!
Absolutely freezing this morning - suddenly seems to be winter here. DH just had to de-ice the car for the school run. Hope Germany went well! Off to do some work now.

Jennster · 28/10/2008 08:39

OMG I've just had 7 hours straight sleep, and then another 90 mins. I can't remember the last time I slept that long uninterupted. About 4 years ago I think.

Momino · 28/10/2008 08:59

i'm with cote on the birth stuff. i agree we shouldn't talk too much about this yet. HOWever, i know so many women who have had quick, needed little pain relief. for each of my friends who have had tough labours I know two who have had easier times. i think my age is against me as well as my size (i'm a bit narrow) which didn't help the last stage go too quickly. I'm defn going to either demand epidural or look into hypnobirthing though i may be too skeptical to 'allow' that to work .

Anyway, I'll stop now with birth talk and leave it another five months or so.

FiKelly · 28/10/2008 09:27

detsy thanks for the cd info i'll check it out.

change of topic.. ds has just brought ALL of his wooden train tracks and trains through to the lounge. bit tricky making a useable track with his selection of bridges etc. but managed in the end! now it's done he won't let me add any carriages to the trains! so i get all the work of building and he gets all the battery trains

so might get to drink a hot cuppa for a change

Jools1 · 28/10/2008 10:42

Hmmm - I had that dream again last night, but with embellishments - I had dream twins (eek) and my two Siamese cats sat on the bed and watched intently ! I was on my own in the house and didn't call anyone - just BF'ed the twins and waited to surprise DP when he got in from work

Jennster - am very VERY of your lovely long sleep - the last time I slept that long was when I conceived in July - felt really wierd as I slept for 8 hours every night for a week before having the CP. Before that, it had been years aswell I think.

Last night, I woke up for a wee at 1.50 and was awake for aaaggggeeesss after that - then DP woke up early, so we gave up at 6am and had tea in bed

OP posts:
frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 11:18

Is anyone on this thread actually having twins (or more?!)
Just wondering.
I'm not (by the way) - although to look at me today you could be forgiven for thinking I am

pulapula · 28/10/2008 11:19

Morning all, I'm feeling sorry for myself, suffering from a bad cold and not being able to take much for it (keep making honey and lemon drinks but not sure how much use that is). Anyone got any better suggestions.

Also now nearly 10 weeks and symptoms have faded over last few days and almost disappeared. Bit worried that its not a good sign as usually suffer til week 14 or so. At least I'm prepared for bad news at scan a week on fri.

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 11:20

By the way jools are your siamese cats real or in the dream?
I'd adore a siamese
but unfortunately am allergic

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 11:23

pula - I think symptoms fading from 9 wks on seems quite common. Mine have almost gone now and have been going away since 9.5 wks. (last time was 12 wks, and with first baby even later - 15 or 16 wks I think). Am now 11+4, sickness 95% gone and I know the bean is still there as heard the heartbeat this morning. Don't worry - chances are high that all is well
I like these halloween smiley things - cute!

Jools1 · 28/10/2008 11:27

Pulapula - I can sympathise as I had a horrid cold a few weeks ago and never realised before how much I rely on lemsip and Night Nurse !!

Things that worked for me - Olbas oil on a hankie / a couple of drops on my pillow so I could breathe and sipping warm water - keeping hydrated seems to thin out all the gunk, making things feel less congested.

Frazzled - yes, I do have two Siamese - a lilac and a choc point. They are both girls and, for a long time, I thought they would be my only "children" I adore cats, especially Siamese and would have a houseful in all the colours and shades if I could. I did have a blue point boy aswell, but he passed away last Nov at the ripe old age of 17 We used to consider him a good contraceptive device as he always always sat on my pillow and watched - quite offputting !!

OP posts:
frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 11:36

jools LOL at your feline contraceptive!
Am very of you having 2 siamese. You're so lucky.

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 11:38

If I had one, I think I'd have a seal point.
[daydreams about fictitious kitten]
My favorite book when I was about 11 was 'Kym' by (I think) Joyce somebody. Have you ever read it?
It's about a woman and her siamese cats.

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/10/2008 11:39

Joyce Stranger her name is.
Might have to go and dig it out and read it again now!

Jools1 · 28/10/2008 11:46

No I haven't read that one Frazzled but I do have loads of others - keep an eye out for Doreen Tovey books - she writes some hilarious and heart-warming stories about her Siamese cats - also Marilyn Edwards and Deric Longden. I could post you one or two if you are interested
