Thanks Beks for your words of encouragemnet. It does seem silly to moan about not feeling like shit. My hieghtened sense of smell has definatley kicked in today, even the smell of the softner on the wsashing seems too strong. I think the sickness will kick in in the next few days.

Ive written to my doctor about Frimley and asking him to try and get me in there. If i dont then i wont get a scan till im 20 weeks which will be dreadful as i need a nuchal scan at 12 weeks cos im 37 and need to know the downs risk. Wish me luck, hes phoning me tomorrow.

alfiesmum · 31/03/2005 15:48

Hello, can I join too please, due 7th Nov. I'm 25, live in Essex with dh and ds 22mths.

I have seen the midwife today for the first time, she said they are now offering 3 scans rather than the 2 I had with my first son. It is internal and done at around 23 weeks, does anyone know anything about this scan and if its worth having?

I know, I thought they only did them early on as well. I think she said it was something to do with testing for the risk of early labour and low birth weights? I should have asked more questions, will have to find out at dating scan.

Wow, so many new ladies!

BEKsmum, still feeling sick at night which is such a pain. I finally get to lay down and close my eyes and then have to jump up again and run for the loo. Ugh. Not sure about the docs here. We were over in Barnes when we had DS so it was all different.

CP3, we have a Toby too! His name is Tobias John but we call him Toby.

It's so hard to think of boy names when we've already used our favourites. For a girl we like Maud Elizabeth. I like very traditional names like Beatrice, Theodore and Alice. So hard to choose. We have to find something that works here and in Texas too which can be difficult. I like the name Jemima but it would never work in Texas. Also have to find something that both sides of the family pronounce the same. That can be a challenge too, especially since my family have very strong Texan accents.

Feeling a bit better lately but, like so many of us, it's worried me a little bit. I was sick as a dog with DS, thought I might have to go into hospital at one point. This time hasn't been so bad in comparison. Still driving me crazy at times but we seem to be coping.

As for the late internal scan, I think the risk is in possibly introducing bacteria into the birth canal which can lead to problems. Saying that, they do a lot of internals in the States at the end of the pregnancy to determine how far the cervix is effaced/dilated and I've never heard of anyone having any complications. I guess it's just a personal call.

Hope you're all feeling as sick as you want to feel! I'm off to make dinner with a clothes peg on my nose... no, not really! But it does sound like a good idea.

cp3 · 31/03/2005 18:40

Toby is a fab name, suits my little un down to the ground. I think ive settled on an Archie or Dennis for a boy and Madeleine or Matilda(Tilly)for a girl.

Im such a nutter, been worrying alot which isnt like me, so i did another test just now and the line was a brilliant blue before my wee had even reached the second window. Feel so much better now. Phew

busyalexsmummy · 31/03/2005 19:53

Had my scan today, everything was fine, heartbeat and blob clearly visable, but they still cant give me a due date and said to wait until my dating scan at 12-16 weeks as my dates put me at 8+5 roughly and theirs at 6+3!!??

busyalexsmummy · 31/03/2005 19:56

ps, what i mean is that would be impossible surely as it would mean i took the hpt very shortly after i conceived and it would not have even shown up positive?? who knows, i know im right as myself and dp only had sex TWICE in feb!!!!

dangirl · 31/03/2005 20:46

have you guys started telling people yet?
We haven't told anyone, not even our parents, yet (8 weeks on saturday). will wait another few weeks I think.
I had an early miscarriage last Nov and was at the time rather pleased that no one knew about it. I guess I am not really the sharing type when it comes to this...
Have booking in app tomorrow. Then it will be a bit more real.
Hugs, Dangirl

alfiesmum · 31/03/2005 20:56

Hi dangirl, we have told our parents and a few of our close friends. I have only told the people that I probably would confide in if I miscarried anyway.
I definitely wouldn't want it to become common knowledge till 12 weeks though.
It still doesn't feel real yet, don't think that will change til I have my first scan.

Oh my god - it looks massive! How cool! There's 28 of us, Just 2 more and we'll have one for everyday on November. We'll have to start a Stats List soon, with locations, hosps, scan dates etc. Maybe we should wait til we're all 12+ weeks. But I'll leave that to someone else I think! I've been trying to watch The Games on channel 4 but keep missing all the good bits!

Rodeo thanks for making up that list - you are a star!!!! Can we have frivolous things on our stats list as well, like food you crave or baby's nickname????? I should head up the list for fattest tummy even though I'm due towards the end of NOv . Or we could have "youngest DH/ DP" as quite a few of us seem to be married to under 10s

KristinaM · 31/03/2005 23:53

Mawbroon - are you calling your baby Sweetpea?

HellKat · 01/04/2005 07:45

Hiya girls and welcome newbies!
This thread is huge!!! It's wonderful.
Dansgirl- My ds was 6 weeks early and yep you will get extra care this time around. We've got not only mw appt's but we've been reffered to Consultants care too.
Cp3- Go on, call the babba Taz he he. Just biased as I have a Taz tattoo on my thigh with ds1's name on it.
Can't believe how quick this pg's going. Turn 9 weeks tomorrow. Anyone else finding that? Or is it just when you're running around after toddler and teenager you don't get time ot think about it?

Fab idea Rodeo about a stats list.
Jenjam- Where in North London are you from? I use to be in Enfield but now in East midlands.
Prolly won't be on until tomorrow girls as it's Ds2's 1st Birthday! So have a great day and take care all.

LexyB · 01/04/2005 08:05

Hi everyone can i join this thread. Just found out pg again with no 5 !!! ( not planned but wanted )Part of the shock is that we must have had sex at some point
Me 38
DH 29
DD 17 1/2
DS1 15
DS2 13
Step dd 8
DS3 7 months
So that means he will be just 15 months when this one is due ( about 28th Nov )Have only been back at work after my maternity leave for 6 weeks !

LexyB · 01/04/2005 08:07

By the way CP3 DS3 is called stanley - what did you mean when you said Toby looked like a Stanley when he was born?

Diddle · 01/04/2005 08:44

lexyb - congrats and welcome to the group, hope you're not feeling too rough.

cp3 · 01/04/2005 09:11

Oh no Lexy B are you mortally offended. Stanley is a fab name, Toby on birth looked like a little old man as in a Stanley or Arthur and theres no way a super cool name like Corbyn would have suited him, and come to think of it it still wouldnt now so im so pleased we went with Toby. Anyway, Welcome to the group, its HUGE.

cads · 01/04/2005 09:14

Wow, been offline for a week and come back to 446 messages. Welcome and congrats to all the new moms-to-be. Nice to see everyone is doing well despite ms, aches and pains, etc.

Been feeling a little bit rotten and have spent the past week on the couch. DS has been a absolute darling and has been quite happy to entertain himself (detroying the house, watching tv) and occasionally climb on the couch to jump on me. I have turned him into a telly addict (thank god for cbeebies).

Can't stop eating all the wrong things and have put on 6lbs in 2 weeks. Anyone know of any good menu plans that can be used during pregnancy which ensures a balanced diet and weight gain? I am soo lazy when it comes to eating, i need something that tells me what to eat and how much? Have spent most of my adult life living on fast food and junk because i never now what to eat. Any help will be great? I am completely uninspired by food.
Lisalisa - what is the SW diet?

Busyalexmummy - my ds's turned 1 on 21st feb, i think he is a day older than yours. How is your ds's walking?

Will be 8 weeks tomorrow, come on 13.

Be back later.

JenJam · 01/04/2005 10:52

Is there such a thing as pregnancy rage>>>>!!! About once a week I completely and utterly 'lose it' with my partner over very small things. It starts with something small (for example him not returning a cuddle sufficiently!?!) The anger silently grows and grows inside until I feel like smashing stuff or my partner to smithereens. After screaming my head off at him (and being quite a bitch with it, saying really hurtful things) I then end up bawling and sobbing and feeling genuinely depressed/sad for an hour or so.

I'd say we had a healthy relationship before pg,
And now I'm losing it all the time. When I feel like this I just want to run away from the relationship and the situation. I scare myself!

This morning I feel a bit better, but my eyes are horrendously puffy - i look like i've been on booze all night, emotionally I still feel a bit fragile but at least not sobbing like an eight year old who has just lost a pet rabbit. But anything could push me over the edge.

I'm going to be locked up if this continues for the whole 9 months.

I'm embarrassed to admit that i'm not happy, glowing and stable

Is this PMT x 100 or what??

Have I triggered a latent psychiatric disorder a la bi-polar?

Hi Jen - sneaked on from the October board to say that sounds just like me last time! There were so many nights spent on the sofa sobbing my heart out after snapping at my DH that I've lost count! It's normal, don't worry! Best of luck x
