kmp Brighton is also easy enough to get to for a day out on the train. Maybe get them to have a look at Visit London and Visit Britain for some ideas?

Those of you with spd, did you get a physio referral straightaway? I went to see the mw last week about it because its really bad during the night & I can barely walk in the morning, but she wouldn't refer me. I have to try this bandage first, which is helping a bit but not enough. Am just wondering whether to leave it as I don't have long to go now or to see if I can get a referral at my mw appt this afternoon.

Indith · 22/10/2008 08:49

LadyT hope you are feeling better today.

Hello kutil Welcome back.

Seriously for all the Yorkshire closures...why? I can't believe either that Hull is a reasonable place to give birth for someone in York, the mind boggles. Interesting that it isn't meant to be that good, I thought the new(ish) womens' bit was all shiny and nice. If by any chance I pop while visiting my parents though (Cottingham) I'm heading to Castle Hill, they can like it or lump it! Seriously though, expecting people to make a long journey to Scarborough is so stupid, especially in the winter when the going can be pretty slow over the tops.

You do live in a beautiful place though, I love Durham and we are close to Yorkshire and Northumberland but it always feels a bit hemmed in by Newcastle, I'd love to move to North Yorks or to Hexham.

Afraid discussions on what to do in London are beyond me, my main contact with the city has been to get to Heathrow

traceface · 22/10/2008 09:02

morning all!

am feeling like a bad mum this morning...my kicky bump prodded my bladder all night so all I want to do is sleep now - but I have an entire day of playing with my 4 year old ahead of me! No playdates or anything planned - just me and her - which should be really lovely but today I feel like I'm already counting down the hours till bedtime. How bad am I?

Does anyone get pins and needles in their bump? I keep getting tingly feelings at the top of my belly - always in the same place - maybe a trapped nerve or something?
Also have got yacky reflux going on - I only had weetabix for breakfast for it keeps coming back! Is this is normal? I had my first baby at 30 weeks, so now am 32 weeks with this one it's all a bit unfamiliar to me!
sorry to moan so early in the day...!

kayzisexpecting · 22/10/2008 09:11

Morning,

pixsix That sounds exactly like what I have. It's worse when I stand up or I have done to much walking.

Indith I've also heard the new womans hospital at Hull isn't meant to be that good. Also you are right about the snow. When it snows here it really snows. Plus the road from Whitby to Scarborough is very very bumpy.

DS didn't sleep very well last night so I'm not all that awake today. I might just spend the day making a list of what I need to buy from B&Q tomorrow. Also popping to Asda to look at the baby clothes.

Beans33 · 22/10/2008 09:54

I'm exhausted today as well. I think, from reading posts, I've got very mild SPD as well. Just real ache on right hand side of my groin and into hip. Sometimes, get a real jabbing pain in my groin/bladder. Thought it might be the nipper, but actually probably isn't.

Baby quiet again today, although have felt the odd little flutter. I can't help fretting about it a bit. Will do some gentle prodding and see if that helps!

Last night I dreamt I had a little girl and DH was so disappointed that we had to call her Anthony!! Very odd.

kayzisexpecting · 22/10/2008 10:02

Drinking a very cold drink and lying on your left side is meant to make them move.

I dreamt last night that we had a girl despite being told we were having a boy. We ended up calling her Dylanetta!!!!

emmanbump · 22/10/2008 10:05

Cracking up at the dreams. Anthony such a lovely name for a girl

katie3677 · 22/10/2008 10:10

Beans drink a very cold glass of water and lie down on the sofa for 10 minutes, that is a tried and tested method of getting them moving. I read somewhere that we should be feeling babies move about 10 times a day at the moment.

traceface · 22/10/2008 10:15

your dreams are funny! I'm going through a phase of very dull dreams - the other night I reamt I was in the supermarket buying all the 2 for 1s! and the really sda thing is I was disappointed when I woke up and the dream was over!

Beans - if you don't get a result from the water I'd ring your midwife/ assessment unit - it would put your mind at rest and they won't mind at all! That's what they're there for

theyoungvisiter · 22/10/2008 10:15

mornign all - waitinggirl throwing up in labour is really common so don't worry! In fact vomiting is often a sign that you are starting labour. It's supposed to be something to do with your body jettisonning everything it doesn't need to deal with or something. I chucked up several times in my last labour (oh, and peed on the birthing ball) but truly, truly couldn't have given a toss as I was far too busy. The mws just dealt with it very calmly!

So don't worry - the midwives will have seen it all before.

Trace, I have awful reflux too - just keep swigging the gaviscon, sob. Not sure about pins and needles - I do get lots of weird cramps and tingling in my bump - could it be braxton hicks? They tend to start at the top and work down and can feel quite odd.

theyoungvisiter · 22/10/2008 10:19

beans do go and get monitored if you are worried - if there's nothign wrong it will set your mind at rest, and if there's a reason why the baby has gone quiet then it's much better to know about it as soon as possible.

Please, please don't feel anxious about wasting their time - the staff at my hospital were always so lovely about being reassuring.

I haven't got my notes with me but I have some vague recollection that the rule is that you are supposed to feel at least 10 separate movements a day in a normal active day, and if you drink something and lie down on your left hand side you are supposed to feel 10 movements within 2 hours (because you feel more movements when you are quiet).

So if you aren't feelign that then you would be totally justified in going to get monitored - they won't dismiss your worries.

Beans33 · 22/10/2008 10:28

Thanks guys, I will go and get it monitored if I'm still worrying later today. Have had some cold water, now just need to find somewhere to lie down at work! Sure all is fine. 10 times a day isn't that much, so think it sounds ok.

I rang the midwife yesterday and she told me to go and get monitored, but have to say she was about as unfriendly and unhelpful as it was possible to be - and I cried after I spoke to her!

My boss is out - am going for a lie down on the floor in his office!!! thanks guys. AGAIN!

kmp1 · 22/10/2008 10:55

Morning all! Thank you to all of your suggestions for the family visit - some great idea's and I have written them all down.
Called home this morning and have sorted it all out - they say I worry too much about making sure everyone else is having a good time and I should just worry about the the baby / birth etc! They know exactly what it's like to have a new baby I guess!!
Oh well, not a bad quality to have I spose, but I think it will change anyway (according to my brother) since it's my 1st child!

Anyway, I am hoping that cold water lay on your side thing makes the baby move as he's all on one side and it's really tight on my right side, and tummy all A symetrical!

kmp1 · 22/10/2008 10:57

oh and hi to kutilputil!

Kimberly1979 · 22/10/2008 11:09

Good morning ladies!

traceface also having the tingling sensation on top of the bump. Not really sure what that's all about. It only seems to be in one particular spot and it's contained to a spot about the size of a golf ball. Seems to only happen when I'm sitting down. I have Dr. appt tomorrow and I was going to ask about it. I'll let you know what I find out.

I haven't really been dreaming much as of late or at least not that I can remember. Although I did have a dream a while back and the baby was crying and needed to be changed and I couldn't find him. Once I finally did find him he was totally covered in poo! haha! I stopped reading pregnancy books before bed after that dream!

beans hope the lying down for a few minutes helps.

ladyt I hope you are feeling better today!

Olipop · 22/10/2008 11:53

Morning ladies!!! Well this is my first official day of maternity leave as it is the first day I 'should' be at work!!! I've dropped DS at nursery (slight attack of the guilts!) and went swimming. I came back, tidied up a bit and had a massive fruitsalad and yoghurt. Now I am checking in on you all!
The house is soooo quiet without DS. It is very odd! I now just have all the cleaning and sorting out that I intended to do stretching ahead of me!

Catching up...
LadyT That sounds grim...step away from the Goji berries!!
Veggie How difficult for you all..half way there though.
Kutil Welcome back!!
Waitinggirl I threw up in labour ..in the sink in the delivery room...and then tried to clean it!!!! They told me not to worry about it!!!!
Trace You poor thing...is there anything you can do to break the day up. I find if I spend 10 minutes sitting down and writing a schedule (sounds a bit school marmish but it works for me) it makes the day not look so scary! Try to factor in a park visit or library trip (good for a 1 hour slot). I also try to imagine myself as a playgroup leader and do things like set out puzzles on DS little table. He thinks its great and will be entertained for a little while. Don't forget to factor in a good few 20-30 minute Cbeebies slots! It just feels more survivable if you don't see endless hours ahead!!!!

hattyyellow · 22/10/2008 12:27

Afternoon all, just popping in to add this to my threads. Will have a good read over lunchtime!

Baby still in, no bleeding as yet - wish the scan to see where the placenta has chosen for its final resting place was a little sooner - need to wait until next Friday which seems a lifetime away!

But every day that goes by at least is a little better for the little one - am 31+2 today. Have gone from sheer panic to feeling a bit surreal about everything, I know I could suddenly have problems if the placenta hasn't moved but I don't actually feel any different from how I did before I knew - it's all a bit like a Schrodinger's Cat type experiment. I won't know until I do know.

LadyT you poor thing! Goji berries sound so harmless. I was so cross on Sunday, have been doing lots of nesty cooking of wintery food and made rhubarb crumble. DH then pointed out that you can't eat rhubarb when pregnant! How on earth did he know that? I certainly didn't have it down on the forbidden list!

hattyyellow · 22/10/2008 12:29

Oli your maternity leave sounds great. I've had a couple of days recently when DD's have been at nursery and I've not had any work booked and it's been lovely, but I know what you mean about feeling guilty! But don't spend the whole time cleaning - you should have your feet up too!

theyoungvisiter · 22/10/2008 12:36

hatty is that really true about rhubarb when pregnant?? - where did your DH get that?

I think the leaves are poisonous and there is a herbal supplement containing rhubarb which I'm sure you are probably not meant to take - but surely stewed rhubarb is fine?!! I've eaten it anyway

kayzisexpecting · 22/10/2008 12:36

Hatty why can't you have rhubarb? I've been eating it all the way through.

I hope next Friday comes round quickly for you.

Oli I am so jealous. I've had this week off work and I am dreading going back on Sunday. I've got 4 weeks left and even though I only work 3 days a week for 4 hours at a time, it's getting really exhausting.

hattyyellow · 22/10/2008 12:43

"Avoid in pregnancy as it is a strong purgative/strong laxative effect".

Link below:
www.internethealthlibrary.com/Plant-Remedies/rhubarb.htm

When you google it it seems to be equally okay and not okay in pregnancy - I think DH is being hyper-cautious due to me being high risk pregnancy!

Didn't eat any in the end but DH and DD's finished it all quite happily!

kayzisexpecting · 22/10/2008 12:45

Thats strange, I would never had thought you shouldn't have it in pregnancy. I googled it too and some places said that it's only medincal(sp) rhubarb. Who knows!!

rosmerta · 22/10/2008 12:46

hatty I haven't heard the no rhubarb either. I'm sure it would be fine cooked, or are you sure he hasn't got it mixed up with rhubarb leaves which you shouldn't eat at all?!

oli sounds like a nice day, definitely put your feet up at some point though!

I was a bit of a cheapskate today, told ds we were going to see some animals and took him to the local pet shop to have a look at the rabbits, guinea pigs etc & fish!

rosmerta · 22/10/2008 12:48

Obviously I'm too slow in posting as x-posted with everyone else re rhubarb!

theyoungvisiter · 22/10/2008 12:51

Hatty I think that's the plant remedy they are talking about - at the bottom it says it's administered as "powdered root, fluid-extract, tincture, syrup, infusion, and solution" - not stewed!
