Chicken pox is my stupid, irrational, hormonal nightmare. I've never had it.

Veggie it takes just under 3 hours from here to London but anywhere off the East Coast Mainline seems to take forever.

DH is being put on a travel ban from 37 weeks on the basis that ds took 4.5 hours and seconds are supposed to be quicker! I may have to be a bit flexible though and let him out on day trips

Trace your baby shower sounds lovely.

Another one pondering the effect on ds at the moment. I suppose we'll just deal with things as they arrive, make sure he is involved etc. He likes "helping" so getting him to bring me a nappy etc. Still he is so possessive of me at the moment that I do wonder how he will react to my carrying a baby all the time.

pixsix · 05/11/2008 08:22

I'm an aunt! My sister gave birth to a little boy last night. i just spoke to her and heard her birth story - induction with only pethidine, first gel to baby in 10 hours! Wow! I am so proud and happy! What an amazing day to be born!

traceface · 05/11/2008 08:40

congratulations Pixsix!!! That's fantastic news! Are you local to each other? how long before you can see your nephew? How exciting!

kayzisexpecting · 05/11/2008 08:43

Congrats Pixsix!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you get to go for a cuddle soon.

pixsix · 05/11/2008 08:50

Thanks guys, she's not in the UK so will be a little while before I get a cuddle. But yay! Right, off to antenatal class. It's 'Breast Feeeding Workshop' today. Hope I can stay awake. Have great days all.

rosmerta · 05/11/2008 09:12

Morning all,

pixsix congratulations, glad everything went well!

Another one here worrying about the impact on ds. Friends have said that people do make a fuss of the older one as well as the baby, but its once all the fuss has died down that they realise the baby is here to stay & when they might start getting upset/clingy etc.

Had a rare night out last night with Olipop & another NCT friend of ours. Oli's fine, her computer's not working atm but she's hoping to be back on in the next day or so.

Beans33 · 05/11/2008 09:51

Oh pixsix - that's LOVELY news - hurray - what a lovely start to a Wednesday morning! And hurray too for the outcome of the US elections!

I start my NCT this Saturday - a bit nervous about it for some reason!

TheInvisibleHand · 05/11/2008 10:11

congratulations pixsix!! katie - we had a chickenpox scare when I was pregnant with DD as DH got shingles (same virus) - if you have had chickenpox before then there is no problem and they don't need to do anything. If you're not sure (I thought I'd had it, but my mum was a bit vague), they can give you a blood test to check whether you have the antibodies. In any case, I think its less of a worry this late in the pregnancy.

I was also rubbish at staying up for election night - made it to about 11.30 - also annoyed to have missed it as it sounded exciting, but seeing as I mostly fall asleep in front of the telly by 10pm these days there wasn't much chance....

veggie - what a nuisance to have to find new tenants at this stage. Will let you know if I hear of anybody looking.

Beans33 · 05/11/2008 11:02

Ok, I admit it, I'm reading The Mail online. I PROMISE I'm not a Daily Mail reader, but am v bored at work for last 3 days. What does everyone think of this article? Makes me feel quite sad. And cross that having a baby is seen as an inconvenience to some people...

emmanbump · 05/11/2008 11:51

Beans

pixsix Congratulations!

TheInvisibleHand · 05/11/2008 12:14

WG (and anybody else who is utterly fed up with their maternity wardrobe!) - Just had an e-mail circular from Isabella Oliver saying that their clearance sale is just starting - might be a bit of a more reasonable option if you can find something for half price...

jumpjockey · 05/11/2008 12:45

Quick message for SummerLightning in case you don't get Anna's email - yoga is off tonight (her baby isn't well) so I'll be heading to the fireworks - won't say "see you there" as 25,000 people is quite a lot!

V good news about the election, I managed about 12.10 before falling asleep so when I went to bed McCain was in the lead!

Invisible - that sale looks really good, makes me wish I had more than 6 weeks to go to justify buying nice clothes!

pix hurrah for your new nephew and well done your sister

Verso · 05/11/2008 12:47

Beans I am just at that article. Couldn't read it all in fact as it was just so astonishing. Is it a hoax?

kmp1 · 05/11/2008 12:50

Hi all,
had m/w appointment - apparently head is in the pelvis now - does that mean engadged? I forgot to ask - also measuring 1 cm smaller (was 1cm bigger) but she said this is becasue head is down in pelvis??

Beans33 · 05/11/2008 13:03

it's an awful article, isn't it???!

I don't know what that means, I'm afraid, kmp - I'm going for my m/w appointment tomorrow afternoon. Actually really not looking forward to it. That's no good, is it???! Although always love the sound of the heartbeat.

I dreamt that DH made me play full rugby last night at 8 months pregnant. It was awful!

katie3677 · 05/11/2008 13:07

We need a new thread, and I had a great idea for a title theother night, but now it's completely gone...pregnancy brain eh? If I remember it I'll start a new one.

Turniphead1 · 05/11/2008 13:11

KMP - do you have your notes? There is normally a section for engagement and they write it as a fraction. Sounds like thats what she means and yes, I suppose that might account for a diff in measurement (or maybe someone else measured you last time? it's a very inaccurate science ). Put it this way, your baby ain't getting any smaller...

Veggie what a pain about your tenants. I remember you hoping you could persuade them to stay. I don't know anyone who works down that way, alas.

Pixsix hurray for your new nephew! How wonderful! Hope your sis is doing well.

My friend (who lost her first child at 24 weeks gestation) went in to be induced yesterday, but waited seven hours before even seeing a Dr. Heard from her this am - nothing happening - so pray it all kicks off soon!

Lal most impressed you stayed up all night! I would have loved to. But had a nice tearful moment when turned on TV this am to check he did it! I am really hoping this is a turning point for the world (spot the mushy pg woman).

Beans what a strange article. I can understand somehow wanting to adopt rather than procreate for the reason that there are so many children out there who need love....but because you can't be arsed to get fat/carry a baby etc well...aside from anything else with my full 5 years experience the pregnancy and giving birth is the easy bit of parenting (not to scare the firsttimers or anything...)

Katie as others have said - you should be fine. I was exposed to CP in early pg and Dr said its fine. But I hope your wee fella isn't too sick with it.

Chutney enjoy your last week in work (well, the pen sniffing anyway). We will be done at 3 too, but not sure about DH having the snip (in case I change my mind )

Good afternoon to all.

katie3677 · 05/11/2008 13:17

It's not chickenpox apparently, just an unidentifiable rash, so he's had the day off nursery under false pretences. However we are having a nice time making lots of mess.

Indith · 05/11/2008 13:29

Congrats pix

What an odd article Beans, very odd to say that you can't be "bothered" with the pregnancy and to be afraid of it affecting career....erm it isn't the pregnancy that affects it but the child that results! Adopted children are just as much work as biological ones if not more so! That said, this is a daily mail article so the perspective is probably dodgy in some way and if more people are adopting older children then that can only be a good thing since they are usually the ones left in care while the snuggly newborns get adopted.

kmp1 · 05/11/2008 13:30

Turnip lol ! What I meant was measured 1 cm over at last appointment and now 1cm under just looking at my notes - she only told me the head was in pelvis but didn't write that - all she wrote was 'not eng' under the column 'relation to the brim in 5ths palpable' which I didn't see before - so I guess that answers my question! (should always consult notes ) she wrote something under fetal well being which is messy and I can't read!!

waitinggirl · 05/11/2008 13:31

kmp - that's exactly what i've got. sproglet is engaged and the smaller size is because the head is now down, so don't worry about that.

just had my carpets fitted - they are so swish they make the rest of the house look shabby. oh bloody hell...

great news on obama - so wonderful to see people so committed and excited, and good to see mccain (if not the republicans) so gracious in defeat.

trying to decide whether to call the mad blogger to lay to rest what our conversation was really about. got butterflies in my stomach. might make myself clean the kitchen first.

kmp1 · 05/11/2008 13:36

WG hi - except mine sas not eng ? But she told me head is down - guess it has to be fully down to be engaged?

waitinggirl · 05/11/2008 14:02

kmp - oh, i've got no clue. sorry

artichokes · 05/11/2008 14:08

Gah! I have just been to a work lunch party where the only drink available was champagne. I have drunk very, very little during this pregnancy but felt it rude to decline a toast. Therefore I have just drunk about two fingers' depth of champagne, and do you know what? I feel a tiny bit drunk and very tired . What is wrong with my body? It was less than half a glass. I have a super busy afternoon and can't afford to not be on the ball.

Has anyone else found they just can't metabolise alcohol?

rosmerta · 05/11/2008 14:12

arti I had a glass of wine last night & feel quite sick & out of it today, so you're not the only one!

kmp head down is just the position of the baby, engaged is when the baby's head starts to move into the pelvis and they write fractions such as 1/5 palpable etc. hth
