Morning everyone, hope you're all well. Been up for ages, can't sleep! Grrr!

I love the secret stork idea

I had a look at buggies at the weekend, but I'm totally overwhelmed! (This is my first child). I'd be very grateful for any advice. What have you gone for?

traceface · 20/10/2008 08:37

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet and have just come across this thread - I'm due on 13 dec 08 - can I join your chats?!!!

kayzisexpecting · 20/10/2008 08:44

Morning!!

Of course you can traceface Welcome!!! I'm due on the 12th. Not long now!!!!

We've been looking at this car seat. I'm feeling a bit dubious about it though. I just don't know if because it is a fairly cheap one it'll be really bad. It seems to have quite good reviews though.

traceface · 20/10/2008 08:54

That car seat looks good and a bargain! birth to 4 years is a long time! The only thing is your child might grow out of it - my first baby was tiny (3lbs!) but soon grew into a chunky monkey so even tho the car seat was still officially for her size, her shoulders were being pushed forwards and she seemed squashed, so we ended up with a different seat anyway!

kayzisexpecting · 20/10/2008 09:02

Yeah DS grew out of his rear facing baby seat before he was 9 months old. I do think we might get it.

rosmerta · 20/10/2008 09:20

morning all, ds was in his bed for the first time last night! Wasn't too bad though he was a bit restless.

veggie re cabrio car seats, we're getting one of these and there is another seat base you can get for the car which isn't isofix. Its called easybase which is fastened in using the seatbelts but you can still just clip the car seat on and off.

lowrib we've just bought an Icandy which ticked all the boxes for us (carrycot, car seat etc). There are a few on ebay so its worth checking on there for a good price.

indith hope you're feeling better today. Ds still goes through days like that & they are hard. Hopefully he'll be back to his angelic self though!

penny99 · 20/10/2008 09:53

Hi all - I have been reading your (very helpful!)messages for a few weeks now and have finally got around to registering myself to be able to post messages.

I am due 3 December (don't know flavour). Having a really great pregnancy.

I saw that there is a meet up planned for the next few weeks in Clapham Junction - I would love to come along and meet some mums and mums to be from the area if thats ok.

waitinggirl · 20/10/2008 09:55

veggie - we're probably going to go for the maxi-cosi car seat and attach the isofix thing to our golf (mothercare lady found the isofix points in the car so we know we've got them). if ever we use the car seat in someone else's car we'll just attach it via seat belts.

maxi-cosi apparently slots on to the bugaboo cameleon we've just bought via special clips (second hand, i hasten to admit - i vowed i'd never buy one of those overpriced trendy things, until it seemed to do all the things we wanted, looked pretty stylish and we realised we could get one for half price second hand). am presuming isofix and cabriofix are basically the same sort of thing, but different brands for different brands of car seat??? btw friends swear by britax - said it was v good.

painting nursery next weekend (don't worry, not me, but dh and friend) although we can't at the moment open the window in there - painted shut. bugger

waitinggirl · 20/10/2008 09:58

oh, and also we are only buying the first age of car seat - the one where you can lift them up with the handle - i know we're going to have to buy another one in 9-13 months time, but we prefer the idea of being able to lift them in and out of the car.

Beans33 · 20/10/2008 10:19

Hi there - we've got the Maxi-Cosi car seat, but decided not to buy the isofix things because it's another wodge of cash and I reckon it's safe enough without it - otherwise you wouldn't be able to buy it on its own, if you know what I mean. BUT for peace of mind, I have been wondering recently....

Only 15 more working days til maternity leave. I am pretty much counting down the hours now!!!

Mondays are dreary aren't they?

Veggiemummy · 20/10/2008 10:24

thanks for carseat advice i think i'll wait til DH gets back and get him to work out if we have the isofix connector bits in the car i'm sure we do it's fairly new car but will see. That safety thing sounds worth the money really, i'm sure if we had an accident we would be more than happy to have spent the money. I can't believe some carseats are that inadequate.

Hi & welcome on to Trace & Penny. Lowrib there have been a few different discussions about pushchairs. Bascically you probably need to put as much thought into it as you would buying a car (and almost as much money) It is really dependent on how you will be using it, i.e. everday, walking loads with the pushchair, whether you use public transport a lot or whether it will need to be good for taking in and out of a car boot. Also whether you live in the city or country, and if you wnat a travel system. When we had DS i walked pretty much everywhere or caught the bus & tube so we got a Maclaren XT classic. It's not a travel system which was fine as we didnt have car then and lived in London. It folds up with one hand can be used form birth lays flat and has space in the under basket as well as easily taking a large load of shopping on it's handles. so it was perfect for us. But it's not for everybody, some prefer a bigger system and also you may be consderin having more children soon after so you may be looking for a twin chair like the phil & teds.

I'm sure a few others will explain their choices so will find someone wth similar circumstances to yours. Also go to John Lewis (preferably on a weekday) and get them to demonstrate some pushchairs for you then when you have chosen what you think is for you have a look online for it on kiddicare.com or ebay or one of those cheap sites and you will be able to get the best price.

Morning All

Just getting this thread on my list.

Kayz and Oli - how tall are your DCs? I ask because we want to get a P&T too but we went to try them out yesterday and DD was too tall for the top seat on both the Vibe and Sport. On the Vibe it hit against the bar at the top of the seat and on the Sport it prevented the shade cover being pulled over. She is slightly tall for her age of 2.2 but she is not huge. I am in a quandry now as our hallway is very narrow so we cannot fit a side by side buggy and the P&T seems by far the best double decker buggy. Hmmmmm. Did you guys get told any tricks for adjusting the P&T as your DCs get bigger?

God, that makes it seem so soon, looking at those lists. Not long to go... Hurray! and Fck!!!

kayzisexpecting · 20/10/2008 11:14

Arti when we went to look at the phil and teds, DS fitted in it very well but I'm not sure what it'll be like when baby comes.

I didn't really think about him not fitting into it. I might have to have a look at that.

JollyBear · 20/10/2008 11:28

Hello everyone,

lowrib First timer very confused by buggies over here too! I did think we were getting one second hand from a friend of my parents but it wouldn't fit in the car boot! We have settled on the Mamas and papas Pliko Pramette mainly because it is light, folds down small (we have a small house/small car), can be made into a travel system etc. It is an all in one unit too, i.e there aren't lots of different sections that we'd need to store in our tiny house! It is also £75 off at the moment .

We don't have isofix connectors in the car but if we did I'd get a base as they seem so much safer. We getting the M&P car seat base to make it easier to get the car seat in and out of the car - saves having to thread the seatbelt round every time.

beans - you lucky thing! I'm working another 5 weeks but now that I count them up, actually only 15 days as well (using up my annual leave) which makes it seem really close. Hurray and f**k indeed!

I had this with DS and it was amazing. I'd love to keep it but DS is too young to walk everywhere so we need a double.

So I'm trying to sell it. But not really getting on very well. Might put it back on Ebay in a couple of weeks.

Indith · 20/10/2008 11:41

Thanks for the slaps and kind words Fecking hormones.

Ds being lovely today but the playdate got cancelled because his friend is poorly

Welcome penny and trace

Buggy and carseat talk going way over my head, am starting to get a little of the P&T buyers but we are just holding out for a couple of moneth to see how we get on with sling and buggy/walking.

Kayz I just realised looking at the list that you are Malton! My gran is in Kirkbymoorside Not too far from me really.

Suppose I should join in with the list updating since I've not done it since I got my bfp so even my edd is wrong since the scan moved it!

I live in Pickering so even closer to your gran. I'm so happy I can have this one in Malton. They are meant to be closing it which is bloody stupid. Luckily they can't close it until they build the MLU in Scarborough. I had DS is Scarborough and really hated it and wouldn't go back unless in a life and death situation.

Indith · 20/10/2008 11:50

We had our 2 night mini honeymoon at the White Swan Inn Stupid to close Malton, how can they expect everybody to travel to Scarborough?

Veggiemummy · 20/10/2008 11:51

good thinking Indith sling was DS's main mode of transport for 1st 3months. Interesting how DH always wanted to take him out for walks and let me stay at home 'to have a rest' hmmmmm.....

Hi All,

Welcome Penny and Trace

Had a bit of a spending spree yesterday on babyclothes and other bits. Not all of which were necessary purchases but it is lovely to have some really nice extra bits

Six weeks left at work. Woo hoo. Only 25 working days left. Feeling really positive today.

Hugs and smiles to all!

emma - so glad you're feeling positive - that's smashing. I am too. a girl at work just felt to see if she could feel the beastie kicking and it gave an almighty boot and she screamed! hahah! Really made me laugh!
