Take

EARPLUGS

and EYEPATCHES

in your hospital bag

with DD I was on such a noisy ward where they kept the lights on till 11pm

it was more agonising than the birth!!!!!!\AND WATER and decent food (if you can stop at an mandS garage on the way to get some scoff do)

Verso · 03/11/2008 07:46

I was wondering about earplugs - but was worried I might not hear my baby (mind you with DD my hearing became super-sensitive, so maybe that's not an issue?). Veggie I find the texture of Gaviscon makes me feel sick, so I've been on the Rennies tablets - they are very chalky but don't stick in your teeth - and they work really quickly too.

Am going to have a lovely 'pottering' day today - really looking forward to it although I do have to phone round to make appointments to visit primary schools for DD as we have to get the form in by 5th December for next September - and unless I get it done before the baby comes DD will end up without a school place!

artichokes · 03/11/2008 07:54

Morning All

LadyT - glad to see you are still with us. You have to sort out that broadband! We got mobile broadband last week, its great, I can take the laptop anywhere and log on withour wires of a wireles signal (great for breastfeeding etc). It costs the same as our old BT broadband and they gave us a freelaptop for signing up!

WG - Be careful if you post the blog. Many blog writers can trace where their readers come from. Is she suddenly gets loads of new visitors she may trace the source and find your link - then your MN cover will be blown.

Kay - Enjoy the carpet shopping.

Verso - Congrats on passing another module.

YV - I think you are right that our bodies are preparing us for the birth by putting us through extreme discomfort. I am so ready for this to be over but I have 5.5 weeks 'til my due date and I suppose I could still be here in 7 weeks... arrrggggghhh.

DH is in Holland with work. Its just me and DD at home which is a challenge as I am too big to get her in and out of her cot. DH left at 6am this morning and accidently woke DD by slamming the door. It was so sad as she woke up wailing "Oh no my Daddy's gone. NOoooooo. Daddy you gone. Nooooo."

I am seriously considering jacking work in at the end of this week. I am meant to be working 'til the end of Nov but that gives me no time off before the baby comes. I am so tired and just want some time to think about having two kids and prepare myself. I also want to take this last chance to spend some one-on-one time with DD. Anyway I am going to try working really, really hard this week to tie-up most loose ends. Then I may just tell them I am too uncomfy to return. Wish me luck!

traceface · 03/11/2008 08:15

Good Morning!
hope you're all well (within reason - apart from the obvious...!)
Verso - hope you have a lovely pottering day - I LOVE those days!! The primary school thing is a bit scary isn't it? DD1 starts in January but next week we have a meeting where we order uniform etc (Yay!) and also she starts going every Tuesday for 1 hour - 13.45 till 14.45 - good job I'm on mat leave otherwise that would be very inconvenient!!
DD is in pre-school today so I am free aswell!!! seeing MW this morning and my last 2 appointments she's sent me in to hospital so we'll see what today brings...
Am hoping to buy some bits later today for my hospital bag - thanks for the Sainsbury's tip - can't remember who said about their maternity/ baby product sale - I will go there first (assuming I'm not in hospital for the day!).
have a good day...

traceface · 03/11/2008 08:48

poisondwarf just looked at your before and after pictures - hilarious!!!!

Flumpybumpy · 03/11/2008 09:27

Hello everyone, finally got a new computer so am back online.

We ll for any of those who remember I have pnly got 2weeks and 2 days to go!!! My section is booked for 19th November so i am well and truly on countdown now.

My hips are agony, my bump is bloody huge and I am completely fed-up being pregnat but other than that quite excited to meet my little giel.

We have decided on a name what do you all think of Niamh Lily???

Will keep you posted should anything happen early, just wanted to check in.

FB x

Verso · 03/11/2008 09:32

Niamh Lily is a beautiful name. My goddaughter is called Niamh. Can't believe you've come back on here though flumpy and pipped me and LadyT to the post with your c-section date! How many weeks are you?

Poison just had a look at your before and after. Can you let me know where you buy your foundation?!

SummerLightning · 03/11/2008 10:01

Hello everyone!

poison you made me laugh a lot. I started reading your post thinking - is there any way she's being serious. Got to the touching up photos bit, and still wondered, til I clicked on the link!!

Verso sorry your mum is crap. Hope she changes her mind and comes and does a bit of helping out after the event!

waitinggirl, yes the only other place i can think of for furniture is Argos like LadyT suggests. Or Kiddicare, which although is cheap for some things, doesn't really seem to have much cheap furniture. Oh and Babies R Us had a limited array of baby furniture when we went in there as well.
Also do not post the link to your friends blog, like arti says most of the well known blogging software has easy to use stuff to track no of readers and where they clicked from to get to the site. Unless you want her to come back here and see us all bitching about her that is!! You could always copy and paste the relevant bit or give us the gist of it if you want us to bitch comment constructively. I also have to admit to being quite curious!! Also I am sure she knows she vastly exaggerated it in her favour and changed bits to make it sound like a good story....maybe you should mention you read it to embarrass her.

Niamh Lily is a lovely name - how do you pronounce Niamh though (I have never known!). Is it Nimm - or is it an alternative of Naomi or something?

I had a great weekend, we did loads on saturday, painted hall, and bought curtains, carpet and furniture for baby room - phew! (Not a cheap day though!)

Then yesterday went for long lunch with friends, was lovely! DH buggered off mountain biking, so I had peace all day as well.

hattyyellow · 03/11/2008 10:05

Yippppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Good news for a Monday morning - scan showed that the placenta has moved up by 5cm!

Consultant was "suprised", my midwife "nearly fell off her chair" after spending my appt with her last week telling me I would categorically be having a section as it would not have moved!

Am so relieved. They did a highly pleasant transvaginal scan just to make sure that it was well out of the way and apparently the baby's head is low down which it would not be if the placenta was still there.

Spent Friday in an elated hysterical high, took DD's to a halloween party had half a glass of wine to celebrate and felt like I'd had a bottle! Spent Saturday very tired and tearful, I think coming off the adrenalin of the last few weeks thinking I could bleed heavily any minute.

Feeling much calmer today. Although realising I now may actually have to give birth - eek! Haven't read that bit in my pregnancy book as it's always been planned sections before!

Only slight concern is that level of amniotic fluid is "relatively low" according to consultant. But he said not to worry unduly (silly thing to say to a pregnant, hormonal woman!) as the baby is growing well (4lb6oz already at 33 weeks!) and is moving and showing no signs of distress - so it could just be an error in measurement. I've got to go back for another scan next week to check if all is okay. I don't have the head space to worry at the moment but I can't help peering anxiously at my knickers to see if there is any wateriness appearing..

Sorry for me, me, me - will catch up at lunchtime on everyones news.

SummerLightning · 03/11/2008 10:07

hatty that is totally great news!!

kayzisexpecting · 03/11/2008 10:09

Morning,

Kiddicare is brilliant. They send you a text message when they dispatch your order and another one on the day your order will arrive.

Flumpy Niamh Lily is a gorgeous name. Welcome back, Niamh could be the first baby!!!

Veggiemummy I might have to try some rice milk. I can't stand Gaviscon and I normally love aniseed flavoured things. I honestly feel I would try anything to get rid of my heartburn.

ARGH!! A friend of mine from my ttc group is 29 weeks and has packed her hospital bag!!!! I really need to get on with it.

I hope everyone is ok.

chutneymary · 03/11/2008 10:12

Hello girls, am off work today just feeling wrong. Nothing very serious, just lots of bits feel a bit niggly. PLEASE can no one say "niggles, start of labour etc " as 1. I am not yet 35 weeks and 2. DH is in Africa. I can't beat you all and have a baby at the beg of november! I'm booked for 4 weeks today so I might have the baby by 10am.

Well done on passing your module Veggie, that's great news. Is this the BF thing?

Verso - sympathies on the situation with your mum. I have pangs too when people talk about how great their mums are, how much help they get etc etc. My mum is a full time carer for my dad now, so can't really do anything practical for me or the baby, apart from copious amounts of knitting in the evening! She also won't be able to travel to see me as my dad can't travel and can't be left, so I won't get to show her my lovely boy until he's a few weeks old. My MIL deserves a whole thread to herslef, the old bag, but I won't raise my BP by going on about her. Sympathies to you as it must be very hard. Was it you asking me about groovy knitting patterns? Between my mum and me we could stock a shop, so if you tell me what you are looking for I can send you some photocopies. How did your DH get on with his tests, BTW? Thinking of you.

Arti, I am giving up in 2 weeks, as I can't face much more either. It is lovely just having some time to myself as well as time with my DDs. With both my previous pg I have worked til the bitter end and it is just too much for me this time. Plus if you give up work you can come out for lunch .

Poison - love the pictures. Looking good!

Hatty, how is your placenta? I think your appointment was last Fri, so fingers crossed it's out of the way.

LadyT, sympathies on the driving. I am not really driving in the dark at the moment as have had a couple of near misses and feel rather unconfident. I feel so much clumsier when pg and can't manoeuvre well as I have to think about which way to turn the wheel rather than just doing it IYKWIM, so I imagine learning must be doubly hard. I am glad you are OK though - get that broadband connection up now !

Flumpy, those are lovely names. I can't remember if you are Irish - Niamh is gorgeous in any event and I love Lily, but having a lucy ruled it out for DD2 as it would have been too similar.

Kayz, kitting out your new house sounds great fun. How lovely to have a new baby in your new house in time for Christmas!

WG, that blog thing sounds a bit creepy, but I think you are doing the right thing by leaving well alone.

Hello everyone else, hope all well. Must go and get the laundry out - no rest even when I am ill - back later.

chutneymary · 03/11/2008 10:18

X posts there - well done Hatty!

SL - a day of peace sounds great. You also sound to have been very energetic for a pg lady. The only exercise I am getting right now is flexing the credit card - take it easy won't you/?

waitinggirl · 03/11/2008 10:20

hatty - your placenta has put a smile on my face! hurrah for it and its movements!

kayzisexpecting · 03/11/2008 10:24

YAY Hatty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats great news, really made me smile!!!

SummerLightning · 03/11/2008 10:28

chutney not that energetic, but am feeling quite good at the moment (I go through phases). DH, bless him, constantly forgets to make allowances for me. He set off across town at a pace I wouldn't be able to match easily when not preganant yesterday as "he wasn't sure when the carpet shop shut so we had to hurry", and seemed genuinely confused when I couldn't keep up!! I also had a dream last night that he said to me "You are going to clean the house when you are on maternity leave, aren't you?", and I woke up furious with him, haha!!

Beans33 · 03/11/2008 10:30

Oh Hatty, I'm so pleased for you - you must be so relieved.

I'm going to do a me post now (not even a bit of one, but a total one). I've just had the most shocking weekend. I'm lucky enough to have a gorgeous MIL (and Mum, which is great and I'm v lucky). She's had a rotten cold for a week or so and on Friday we got a message from FIL that she had been taken to hospital with pneumonia. 5 years ago she very nearly died of canceer and was given 3 months to live, but came through it, almost miraculously.

Anyway, it turns out that she very nearly died on Friday, so we rushed up to Cambs on Saturday morning to find that she was still really unstable - her heart bpm were 140, but she had no pressure because of the cancer her heart is really dodgy. Spent the whole day at the hospital and she seemed to be getting better and bpm went down to 105. Than at lunchtime DH went in to see her again and they had just removed a tube from her lungs and her temp and bpm had increased again to 135. DH was in tears and thought she was going to die there and then. I felt so helpless because his Mum didn't want me to go in in case I caught something (which I wouldn't but I wasn't about to contradict her), plus DH is very independent when it comes to that sort of thing and just wanted to be on his own. I was busy trying to be strong, but as I went downstairs to the cafe, I just bawled and bawled. She is such a lovely, kind woman and I really love her.

Luckily, she pulled through and actually is now relatively stable. She was in the cardiac unit, but not been moved to respiratory unit. And they think she could be ok. But it's just such a worry and I feel so sorry for DH and his sisters and his dad and his Mum. Must be a hellish time and although it's a bit better, I can't help worrying about it still. Fingers crossed, though. Couldn't bear it if anything happened to her.

Sorry all, just been a really tough weekend and am still reeling a little bit.

Last week at work now, so am winding down somewhat. Just hoping all is ok.

katie3677 · 03/11/2008 10:33

Hi all, I am on serious wind down as of this week. I am a freelancer, and normally do 3 days a week, but as I haven't got all that much work on at the moment and it seems stupid to pay for DS to be at nursery if I am not working, we have both gone down to 3 half days a week from now on. Yay!
Had a really busy nesting weekend cleaning the house top to bottom and finally got my cot back from SIL so that is now up and we are ready to go...Going to spend the rest of the week making stews to freeze so that DH and DS get something to eat after the arrival.
2 of my best friends are due to have their babies this week, so could be a busy one.
Flumpy, I love both the names, and would really like to use Lily if this one is a girl but don't think it would work with our surname unfortunately, especially as it is the only girls name that DH and I actually agree on. Hating this name lark, think ours will be 'baby boy/girl' for the first week, like poor DS was until we decided.

jumpjockey · 03/11/2008 10:34

Oh bollocks. We've got a chap in fixing 2 rattly rotten leaking sash windows this week, he's just phoned to say that the brickwork above one of them is completely crap, someone's tried to repoint with pretty much dust, and he can take the bricks out with his bare hands. So I need to find a builder who can come in in the next 2 days and fix this so the window doesn't fall out and we actually have a viable wall at the back of our spare room.

Damn bloody house! The survey said the window frames needed repainting but nothing about bricks liable to fall out at any moment.

Sorry - very me me me post there, will reply to everyone else later on but we could really do without this right now.

katie3677 · 03/11/2008 10:37

Beans, sorry x posted. Sorry you had such an awful weekend and hope your MIL is ok.

kayzisexpecting · 03/11/2008 10:39

Beans Sorry you had a horrible weekend, I hope your MIL is getting better.

JJ Thats awful, surely a survey should pick something that important up.

jumpjockey · 03/11/2008 10:43

oh beans I'm so sorry, a really bad cross post and so silly to be worried about windows compared to your MIL. Sounds like she's a really strong woman to have come so far already, will say a prayer for her and you all. [hugs]

Beans33 · 03/11/2008 10:45

Thanks JJ - don't worry at all - not a silly worry - v frustrating, especially this close to d-day.

She is v strong lady, so fingers crossed. Thanks

x

pixsix · 03/11/2008 10:51

Yay Hatty!

Chutney, fingers crossed that your little one hangs in there until your section date.

I'm feeling rubbish today too. Have had tummy pains all morning and have just been sick I also feel sort of hot and cold as if i might be getting a fever so I'm lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. I really hope I'm not getting ill as we are moving house a week today and I have a lot to do.

traceface good luck at the midwife, I hope you don't have to go in to the hospital for anything.

I'm seeing the midwife this afternoon too for my 36 week check.

arti I hope you are able to give up work this week.
