Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
abbymeg · 24/10/2008 12:15

Hello all .

I'm 31+5 and I'm measuring 5cms over (again). He's now breech (so the cute bump I've spent two weeks poking is his head, no wonder he's been kicking me so hard!!). So, he's huge and the wrong way round. The heartburn may kill me.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can try to encourage him to turn? I've tried all fours with my head lowered, but this makes me want to be sick on the floor.

I aren't worried too much at this stage, as DD turned breech and turned back at 37 weeks. I must be spacious! However, it is very uncomfortable, and he's all wavy hands and feet so I'm getting no peace!

Thanks

Verso you sound like you've got it all sorted, and sorry if I came across as patronising. That wasn't my intention. It's difficult not knowing everyone's situations and backgrounds.
I hope all goes well this afternoon and that your calm and efficient handling of the situation makes them think twice about offering the job to you - if that's what you want.

TheInvisibleHand · 24/10/2008 12:28

Verso - very best of luck for this afternoon. I've nothing to add in terms of advice but am so frustrated on your behalf and totally understand where you are coming from. Some time ago DH decided he wanted to change career path and is currently a student doing a full time PhD, so we basically rely on my income. Even when he finishes, I've basically accepted that its down to me, as I will have over 10 years progressing in what I do, when he will be starting from scratch in a (relatively) less well paid career. That's fine with me, as I like what I do and feel that the arrangements we've got in place keep DD happy. But employers don't even realise and assume that you aren't as committed because you have kids and it becomes a bit of a vicious circle because you lose motivation. You sound hugely impressive with everything you have got on - my Dad has had MS for years and that is tough to cope with on top of children and a career - you should be very proud of yourself.

abbymeg - my MW said that sitting on a chair backwards (i.e with your legs on either side of the bit you would normally put your back on) can help.

I have also read that sitting on one of those fitballs/birthing balls and moving around can help.

kmp I have read that even falling front first over on the pavement should not cause the baby any problems - so they must be really protected in there!

verso hoping your meeting goes well. Something that just occured to me is whether they are nervous about creating this new position in the current economic climate and whether they might just be hoping you will 'do' the role (take on the various responsibilities/duties etc) without having to properly 'give' it to you.

I had my 34 week midwife appt this morning. I was told the baby is engaged and that this was a good thing but I am not sure why? Does it just mean the baby is in the right position?

TheInvisibleHand · 24/10/2008 12:29

Oops - got carried away, didn't mean to post twice

anjlix · 24/10/2008 12:31

Hello all thanks for the welcome.

abbymeg being a first timer I have no idea what to offer to you! I myself am hoping that either both my kids are head down or none of them are so that I can make C-sec vs natural decision easily.

I am getting pretty tired of being pregnant. Had insomnia last 2 nights and then slept all morning. I am never functional before 3p. Any one in the same boat?

EffiePerine · 24/10/2008 12:34

penny: engaged means the baby'd head is in the right position and has moved into your pelvis - this is very good!

poisondwarf · 24/10/2008 12:34

Just back from mw appointment - all fine & dandy, baby's head down & all that. Just sitting at my desk & patting her bum (now I know where it is).

Forgot to say earlier hello to anj and welcome - twins, how exciting! I don't know if you've been following the thread at all but GettingBiggerBird is also expecting twins, although I don't think she's posted for a while. Also hattyyellow has got twin DDs. Have you got DCs already or are you new to this pregnancy lark?

Verso you're probably sick of me suggesting things that you were already going to do but are you planning to ask them explicitly to reconsider their decision? If it were me I would make that the ultimate aim of the meeting. Obviously I don't know all the ins and outs of your situation but I would tend towards thinking they are not going to reconsider if they can get away with it unless you put them in a position where they have to or give you a bloody good reason why not. Otherwise you risk the dialogue being closed at the end of your feedback session, which is the ideal situation for them let's face it. Good luck with it!

Effie loving the pyjama porn. Am also on the lookout for some button-up jamas as I have spent most of the last 18 months in nighties (which is a bit depressing for someone who previously had not owned a single item of nightwear since childhood). £29.50 is way beyond my budget though - anyone seen any comfy cotton ones cheaper? Primark have them for about a 4 or 5 quid but they don't button up at the front for breastfeeding.

EffiePerine · 24/10/2008 12:35

anj: luckily not much insomnia so far, tho was kept awake by DS last night who woke a few times complaining of something or other!

poisondwarf · 24/10/2008 12:36

oops cross-posted with you there anj

EffiePerine · 24/10/2008 12:36

PD: I got some brushed cotton button pjs from Primark, about £6 I think. Worth another look as their stock changes so quickly.

kayzisexpecting · 24/10/2008 12:40

Arti I've got the P&Ts Sport in Apple. I just love the green colour. Can't wait for it to come.

I'm sorting out moving our internet over to the new house so may not be on for a while but I'll keep popping into the library to catch up with everyone.

Indith · 24/10/2008 12:50

Penny that means the baby is very much in the right place

Apart from hands and knees scrubbing the floor (or rocking), rocking on a birthing ball, going up and down the stairs sideways and breast stroke are good for positioning (so that would be anything that rocks the pelvis then!)

You are all reminding me I need to look at pjs now! I have some very warm and comfy button ones from DP from when I had ds but they have huge button holes and tiny bottons so they just come undone I want my norks out but the rest of me warm!

abbymeg · 24/10/2008 12:57

Thanks penny99 - that sounds a much nicer option that all fours!

anjlix I'm already booked for a c-section as I anticipated it would be a big baby. My last was 10lbs 12oz. If it's breech it won't make much of a difference, except it's uncomfy and I've heard that c-sections are much easier if the baby is in the right position. Twins - how lovely! Although I agree with feeling fed up with being pregnant. This one seems to wake me up at 4am every morning by kicking lots and then getting hiccups. Same time every day. I asked MW and she said he's obviously settling into a pattern that suits him. Great. He better get out of the habit before he's born!

jumpjockey · 24/10/2008 13:25

Afternoon all! Have got two strapping young lads in the house at the moment fitting carpet [drool] if only I wasn't a big waddling heffalump, they keep looking at me pityingly as I struggle up the stairs

Verso, thinking of you this afternoon. You've had some great advice so really really hope you get a good result.

Hello anjlix and welcome!

Effie I have that dressing gown and it's soooooo soft and warm, and a total bargain as well at that price.

abby I've been told the same as penny, basically just avoiding loafing around on the sofa but sitting leaning forward is an easy thing you can do, it helps the baby swing round/

zoejeanne · 24/10/2008 13:26

Hi everyone,

verso will be thinking of you this afternoon and hope your meeting is successful.

welcome to anj, and congratulations on your twins.

I've got my eye on some pjs from mothercare, with a cardi style top, plus nursing vest. I like the thought of having a matching cardi to keep me warm in the middle of the night in cold January. I think it's about £20

Off now to see the MW, have a good afternoon and weekend everyone

rosmerta · 24/10/2008 13:40

hi everyone,

verso think you've got some really good advice here and would echo poisondwarfs comments about them reconsidering if that's what you want. Other than that, good luck this afternoon

abbeymeg this website has some useful info about trying to get a baby to turn, making sure you lie on your left-hand side helps the baby to fall that way.

veggie hope you got a good night's sleep. Ages ago, you asked how my course was going & I forgot to reply! Its fine, I'm just starting to lose motivation to do any work. I'm still doing some though as I wanted to get two more pieces of work in before the baby's born.

anj hi, congratulations on the twins!

zj good luck with the mw appt

My pushchair turned up this week & I've finally put it together. I'm so happy with it!!

theyoungvisiter · 24/10/2008 13:41

verso some amazing advice here so I won't add to it except to say GOOD LUCK.

Also don't do anything you regret - if nothing else get your full maternity entitlement and ALL your paid holiday before storming out. Maternity leave is a great time to search for new jobs and go for interviews without answering awkward questions

Next week is my last week at work!!!! I am sooooo ready for maternity leave and really looking forward to giving up the commute. I'm stopping a bit earlier than I'd intended but just finding it too knackering at this point.

oops, not sure how that happened...

pixsix · 24/10/2008 14:04

OMG! There's a July 2009 thread!

poisondwarf · 24/10/2008 14:08

July? Oh now that IS scary!

jumpjockey · 24/10/2008 14:11

BTW after all the isofix chat last week, if anyone's thinking of getting the Maxi-Cosi car seat, get it from Boots online this weekend as they've got 20% off plus loads of extra points if you spend £75. Have just bought the car seat and the isofix attachment thingy (plus a few extras to make it over £75) in two separate orders for £170 but with £40 worth of points so it comes in at about £100 less than the usual price.

hattyyellow · 24/10/2008 14:12

July 09 - arrgghhh!

Verso I've probably missed you but loads of luck for today - there's been some brilliant advice on here so I really hope they can give you some answers.

Abbey good to see you back again. What date is your section booked in for - weren't you due Xmas Day?
