Oh turnip that is very efficient! So not eating the tree but are eating santa??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Beans you poor thing...I felt so like that in the last few weeks of work...was so sodding bored and felt my time at home would be used so much better (she says...sitting on the sofa with with the laptop contemplating the chocolate in the fridge!!!)
We will commence your countdown from now!!!

emmanbump · 23/10/2008 13:19

Sorry to hear about work Verso .

Weight, didn't actually think I have put on that much so far but bum is really starting to widen now hoping that the weight will fall off after the birth

Always feeling hungry and keep wanting sweet things, trying to make some of those fruit rather than sweets everytime as aware I need to eat well for the baby and me. Maybe the alwasy hungry feeling will wear off a bit as the baby grows more (only 30+ weeks) and there is less room to gorge (smile)

zoejeanne · 23/10/2008 13:29

emma I'm also always hungry, but then fill up really quickly when I do eat, so I'm now grazing pretty much round the clock!

I read somewhere that we shouldn't worry about weight gain and the best measure to ensure you're not gaining too much that baby doesn't need is your thighs shouldn't grow. Daren't measure mine, cause I know darned well they've grown magnificently!!!

Well done turnip I'm busy telling everyone that I'm getting ready early for Christmas and being organised, but actually I'm all talk and no action and have only bought one pressie and one pack of cards. Still 9 weeks to go though ...

oli I think you're spending your ML very wisely and I will follow your example in 4 weeks and 1 1/2 days time.

Had a good phone call this morning - the person we offered my ML cover to has accepted, hurrah, so now we're talking handovers etc. Can't wait!!

Have a good afternoon all

EffiePerine · 23/10/2008 13:39

Verso: at your employers. I'd leave it for now, but take soe good legal advice while you're on maternity leave (I'm not sure when the cut-off date is for complaints) and consider action when you go back IF you think they are discriminating against you because you've been off. I'm rather suspicious of the timing TBBH. You prob don't want to think about resigning at this stage (esp not in the current climate) but no harm to find out where you stand and consider your options. E.g. if you went back to find someone in that rolw who was less experienced and/or qualified than you, then you'd have a very good case.

Beans: your GP is talking RUBBISH. How (and why) should you avoid putting on any weight in the 3rd trimester when the baby's doing most of it's growing? Completely loopy. I've out on about 2 stone so far so am looking at 2-3 stone in the end - did so with DS and I lost it in 9 months. Would second advice of getting out of the house with the baby every day and walking.

emmanbump · 23/10/2008 14:01

sorry ladies whinge alert

Got PGP it isn't that bad but it's the worst i've had. Also my lower back has been giving me gip most of the day so it is really starting to get to me now. Poor me. Just want to be at home pref in bed. Gosh, not sure how I am going to cope with labour if I am moaning about a bit of backache

artichokes · 23/10/2008 14:07

Just another quicky as I am at work and have not caught up properly.

Have skimmed the posts about weight and Beans, like the others, I think your GP is talking tosh. I put on 5 stone with DD1! Alot of it was water rentention and I lost 3 stone in labour and with the loss of all my puffiness. The other two stone came off very easily while BFing and by the time DD was 7 months I was one stone lighter than when I began! This time I have put on 2 stone and 4 lbs at this point. Just don't stress about it.

LadyT - poor you being so ill while so pregnant. Violent sickness is my nightmare anyway but at this stage of pregnancy i am not sure how I would cope.

Verso - I hope you give your employers a really hard time.

I am having period cramps. Is anyone else having them? I don't remember getting them with DD1. I hope its nothing, they are not regular or too strong, but DH is uncontactable until Saturday morning so I can't bear the diea of anything happening. I hate him being uncontactable .

chutneymary · 23/10/2008 14:30

Hello girls - just a very quick one from me as we've got rid of one set of lunch guests and are just pausing before our afternoon friends touch down. I need a cup of tea and a biscuit to psyche myself up but will post properly later on.

Verso - that is absolute pants, how dare they? Have you thought about raising a grievance? Agree it is constructive dismissal but you don't want to be going down that route at the moment. If it is for reason of pg, it is sex discrim and auto unlawful, and there is no limit to the amount of compensation a tribunal can award. Clearly they knew about your pg but is this (part of) the reason why you didn't get it, do you think? Might be worth a shot. I sometimes raise this at my work (with a bunch of lawyers who you would think would know better) and it certainly puts cat among the pigeons.

Weight - Dr should not be asking as it's no indication of how big the baby is or how healthy either of you are. I put on about 4 stone with DD1, and about 4 1/2 with DD2. Have put on a stack this time but don't care to weigh myself. It'll come off, esp if you BF. I am trying to eat healthily, but have to eat loads. Went to a friend's last night and was a bit put out when she decreed we'd finished the take out and she'd save the rest for her husband! I thought I'd only just started! Hey ho.

Back later. Chin up girls .

Beans33 · 23/10/2008 14:43

Thanks to all re weight gain stories etc. I do think it was a bit of a stupid comment from the GP - plus he's a bloke, so can only speak from statistical point of view, not experience.

Is anyone else getting Braxon Hicks contractions now? I used to get them a fair bit early on in the pregnancy and then they stopped. Today I've noticed a few of them - not painful or anything, just tummy goes tight. Quite a strange feeling.

I can't remember who it was who had tingly spots on their bump - did you find out what it was from GP in the end?

traceface · 23/10/2008 14:46

being newish to mumsnet - what's the limit on how grim and personal we get? Can I mention my painful haemorroids or is that too much info?!!!

traceface · 23/10/2008 14:50

I have the tingly bump - but Kimberley said she has it too and was going to ask her GP today - any news yet Kim? I am seeing MW tomorrow so will ask her.
Am stressing a bit because I had DD1 at 30 weeks due to pre-eclampsia and have started getting symptoms again. eek. am 32 weeks so not as bad as last time but seeing lots of stars and have had bad head today. Hope BP and urine are OK with MW tomorrow. Probably making it worse by stressing!

waitinggirl · 23/10/2008 14:55

hello - someone mentioned maternity allowance for the self employed.

look at www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/ni17a/ma/index.asp#intro

that should explain stuff.

basically, i got my MAT B1, photocopied it a few times in case i needed it for other things (e.g. real nappy incentive schemes), filled out the form and sent it and the MAT B1 to:

Maternity Alowance
Job Centre Plus
Wrexham BDC
Jupiter Drive
CHESTER
CH70 8BL

(they tell you to send it to your local job centre plus, but upon calling lots of different maternity allowance people, i was recommended to send it straight to Wrexham)

about 2 weeks later I received notification i am getting full MA, but i have to tell them when i stop work, so they can then start paying me.

hope that helps

waitinggirl · 23/10/2008 14:57

artichokes - period pains - do you want to get them checked out with the mw? probably just growing pains of ligaments stretching, but it might make you feel better

trace - i doubt anything is out of bounds here

re: braxton hicks - haven't had any at all. don't know whether that is a good/bad/completely irrelevant thing

waitinggirl · 23/10/2008 15:01

katie - ah, it was you with the MA query. while some people get the MAT B1 given to them, i had to ask for mine from the GP MW, and the hospital MW congratulated me as they had run out - i'm sure you can get yours at either place.

emmanbump · 23/10/2008 15:03

arti in the meantime rest! You are prob doing too much!

zoejeanne · 23/10/2008 15:21

emma how's your lower back doing? I drive a bit, long commute etc, and mine is quite painful after a long time sat down. I've found swimming to ease it and also I've got an exercise ball that I sit to watch telly everynight - you have to lean forwards rather than back with it, which is a more comfortable position for my back (our sofas are too soft - never thought that'd be a problem!!) Hope either of these help

Also, hope arti and trace are resting well. We slowly all seem to be succumbing to one symptom or another - is this how it's going to be until all the babes are hatched now?

Kimberly1979 · 23/10/2008 15:26

Hello Ladies!

This thread is moving quickly!

Had my appointment today and everything looked good. The baby had flipped and is now head down! Hopefully he'll stay that way.

traceface and Beans Asked about the tingly spot on the bump. He said it wasn't anything to worry about. He said that it may be caused by the position that the baby is in. He didn't seem too concerned about it. You may ask your MW just to see if she has anything else to add. I'd be interested to know if she says the same thing.

traceface also feeling a bit addicted to crisps at the moment! My current favorite are Wosits (cheese flavor only).

verso so sorry to hear about your work situation. Hopefully they will have a good explanation for their actions!

Beans33 · 23/10/2008 15:29

It's true, we're all coming down with it!

traceface - be vvery careful re the pre-eclampsia - I know you dont' need to be told, but I'm worrying abou tyou now!

x

emmanbump · 23/10/2008 15:30

Thanks for the advice Zoe. I have been moving about much more since last post and it has eased a bit. Think I have been sitting in same position for too long. Yes trying to curse my back as I sit at the moment.

emmanbump · 23/10/2008 16:00

Oops Curse = curve

poisondwarf · 23/10/2008 16:11

Verso that's so out of order - I think the real slap in the face for me would be that the vacancy is still open, as Invisible said earlier. It sounds to me like it could have been taken out of your boss's hands and someone further up has said that they want someone in post asap, and that way they don't have to recruit for maternity cover. Could that be it maybe? It can't be a reflection of your abilities as they wouldn't have made such a big deal out of you applying - but that in itself is frustrating, and of course impossible to prove. Try & get them to give you some feedback in writing if you can - they might just say something they shouldn't. I'd be furious too after putting in all that extra work when you could have been winding down, and how disappointing that it means DH won't be able to go part-time.

Veggie sorry to hear about your DH and his dad - must be really upsetting for him. Sorry for being nosey but what happens if he's still alive in 5 or 10 years' time (or even 1 year's time when he's no longer at the age he's been told he's going to die)? Will he get in touch himself?

Turnip/LadyT smashing to see you both at our small but perfectly formed meet-up on Friday. How was your birthday party Turnip? And sorry to hear about your eyeball-popping experience LadyT - that'll teach you to eat healthy madam!

trace, penny & Amy welcome aboard, and welcome back kutilputil & lal07. Trace, fingers crossed for your mw appointment tomorrow.

pixsix I must admit I was a bit puzzled by them changing your due date at 27 weeks - the whole point of dating at 12 weeks is that babies grow pretty much uniformly until that point then follow their own trajectories and diverge wildly. I would absolutely not let them pressurise you into an induction without making sure this is revisited should the time come.

Can I join the fat arse club? My inner thighs are starting to get a bit too closely acquainted and I have metamorphosed into a woman of many chins. Now I'm used to the big belly comments but one I had the other day took the biscuit. I told some random older woman at the toddler group that I had 2 months to go and she did the usual "Are you sure there aren't 2 of them in there?" line (except most people are joking when they say that - she totally wasn't). Then she went on to say "Yes, I was exactly the same as you when I had mine - gained 4 or 5 stone and never lost it again"! And she was pretty rotund I can tell you. I must admit it prompted me to get on the scales for the first time in about 4 or 5 months - and I've gained 1.5 stone! Okay, I had half a stone of baby fat still hanging around from last time so I guess you could say 2 stone but really!

Hmm well weight loss after birth. I'm amazed at 3 stone during labour artichokes - I managed a measly 10lb (and almost 7lb of that was baby). As for breastfeeding, well I have to say that it wasn't a magic weight loss pill for me at all - lost next to nothing for the first 4 months, but then I hardly moved from the sofa cos I was too busy round-the-clock breastfeeding. At 11 months (when I got pregnant again) I was still breastfeeding & still had half a stone to go, which probably doesn't sound much but is quite a lot on my small frame.

EffiePerine · 23/10/2008 16:21

Trace: I'm sure you know this, having had PE before, but if you start feeling worse ring your mw/maternity unit/go to A&E right away - no point waiting for tomorrow. Hope all is well.

Can I just say FECK ARSE BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER? Went to my mw appt and it turns out one of my urine samples may have tested positive for group B strep (nasty thing that can casuse health probs in a newborn) only they're not sure because they got the sample on a weekend when they all go home early or something and no-one botehred to tell me about it (luckily my mw rang up to get my blood test results), so I have to go to the GP to have another test (a swab this time). And I can't get there till a week on Monday. Arse arse arse.

Veggiemummy · 23/10/2008 16:46

Hello everyone, quick skim read as I've got loads to do at work
Hi and welcome to all the new people
Hugs to everyone who's feeling dodgy

verso that's terrible about the work situation, you've had lots of good advice so hope something can get sorted. I've been in a slightly similar situation about a regrading of my post as my job responsibility has increased loads, everybody in my institution (university dept) was certain it would go through when we applied last December but it didn't, so we went to an appeal panel which finally happened in September and the HR lady was "certain" it would go through but still hasn't, for nearly a year we've been jumping through hoops, I'd been anticipating a pay rise that would have really helped on ML as everyone was so certain about it, but heard 2 weeks ago that it didn't I feel like working much less hard as a result - if the uni thinks my job is still at the lower level, well I'll only do the lower level work then

baby weight - I'm a bit worried as I've not put anything significant on for about a month - there was the vomming bug a few weeks back which made me lose about 1.5kg but I'm only just back up to the pre-bug weight. Hope SP* is doing ok in there...

Couple of Q's for all you 2nd time experienced mums! Firstly - just got back from the shops where I had parked ridiculously close to the wall and couldn't fit out my drivers side door so climbed over to other side. would I have squashed baby at all or done anything too rough? I was really bent over and now he has hiccups! I'm a bit worried after the sugar in urine thing today and the elevated BP? Also squashed tummy a little similar when had to ride with my dog on my lap in the car recently (30lb labrador pup!)
next Q - for those who have already given birth in the past - can you estimate how much weight comes off just from the labour -
obviously at least 3-4 kg of baby / plaenta but does any of the fluid etc go during that time or am I clutching at straws! Weight lost estimate by the time you got home would be great! LOL
