Very behind on all the posts but...
Verso - that is most odd ! I really feel for you - very off for them to be giving you such positive vibes etc. I am though a great believer in the Northern Irish expression "if it's not for you, it'll go past you..." iyswim.

ladyT goji berries thing sounds dreadful. So glad I got to meet you when you were looking lovely ...It was lovely meeting you and Poison Dwarf on friday on our mini London meet. Hope you weekends were good (nothwithstanding allergic reactions).

Lots of respect to the ladies coming out the otherise of HG. I have to say, that would be my biggest nightmare. Hope you feel much much better.

DH out tonight so its toast and cereal for supper and an early night.

theyoungvisiter · 22/10/2008 20:43

verso that's completely rubbish and awful - I really feel for you - I had a similar situation at work a couple of years ago and it took me ages to get my confidence back.

At least you can swan off on mat leave and mentally stick two fingers up at them, grr.

Verso · 22/10/2008 21:28

Thanks, everyone. Before I left today I sent an email asking for a feedback session before I go on maternity leave on Friday. I'll let you know what transpires.

I'll get over it - just wish it had been handled more appropriately!

Veggiemummy · 22/10/2008 21:35

i was feeling a bit lazy tonight and ordered a pizza, i got a big one with a salad but they had no salad so i got potato wedges instead. I ate all the potato wedges and half the pizza and now i feel sick. Why does this baby take up so much room.

Morning.

Verso Thats really bad. They shouldn't encourage you and then not give you the job.

I slept all night last night and still woke up feeling tired. Its so annoying.

I'm counting down the days until maternity leave. I have 13 days left but its spread over 4 weeks.

Verso · 23/10/2008 07:40

slept badly. Not sure how to get through next 2 days. Feel very angry about the inappropriate way i was encouraged. Did i mention my boss even got me to 'sanity check' the job spec for her back in July before she advertised? Am simply at a loss. They are in breach of the 'implied term of trust and confidence' but you have to resign and claim constructive dismissal, which is very difficult, and in any case by doing that I would forfeit my maternity pay. Fan-bloody-tastic.

lal07 · 23/10/2008 08:36

Verso really feel for you - awful situation. Think you do just have to try and get through the next couple of days (although can totally see the temptation to go postal on them - especially full of pregnancy hormones). If you're still really fed up with them when you go back to work you can always look for something else. I got totally screwed by my work last time I was off but consoled myself by thinking I wouldn't owe them any favours when I got back. So unfair for this to happen to you just before you go off on Mat Leave. Just try and count down the hours.

zoejeanne · 23/10/2008 09:09

verso so sorry to hear about the crap way you've been treated by your work - I hope you get a response to your email today and an explanation/feedback. You don't want to go on ML with bad feelings or it will be hard to go back I think. Got my fingers crossed for you today

beans and kayz was worried to hear bout your falls/lack of movement yesterday, but relieved everything was well again by the evening. HOpe today is a better day for both of you

Welcome to amy, hope the next 3 weeks at work go well, and the ML as well!

I'm about going to join those non sleepers, had a bad night last night (nothing to worry about, unlike poor verso) just spent too much time awake and not enough asleep, so feeling tired and useless today.

Beans33 · 23/10/2008 09:38

Verso - I'm so sorry for you - what a totoal nightmare. Just a disappointment you dont' need just before you go on maternity leave. EMployers are just rubbish. POor you. I hope the feedback session goes ok. Let us know.

Nipper back on top form. Had GP appointment this morning and heartbeat is going strong. It's turned over, so although its head is still in the right position, its back is now on the otherside! VEry cool.

Got a bit depressed, though, as he asked me how much weight I'd put on and I told him it was 2.5 stone and he said try not to put any more on because optimally you should only put on 1.5 stone. Oh bugger. But he did say it was more because it's such a nightmare to get it off again. I am so missing exercise and I really don't think I look that enormous. But maybe I do!!! Oh bum. Never mind - too late now in this pg, just if I have another one, will watch it more! I miss taking exercise, I must say. I do lots of walking and some yoga, but not really enough in my book. Want to go jogging again and cycling!!!

Anyway, sorry, that was all about me. I must go to work now - am skiving off with Jeremy Kyle on the telly. I hate the programme, but it's so addictive!

Speak later. x

Turniphead1 · 23/10/2008 09:45

Ah Beans - 1.5 is VERY little. I have put on nearly 3 stone (and still have 9 weeks to go, eek) and am not that worried. It will come off. It is very easy for GPs etc to say - don't put more than x amount on.

kmp1 · 23/10/2008 09:53

Hi penny yeah glad it's sorted (fam visits) i was born in Melb but grew up in Qld - maybe we'll meet up at the CJ lunch -are you going? Parents came here in April and went to Cornwall - still froze then!

Just back from routine appt. Apparently slight sugar in urine and bp up a bit - they want more bloodtomorrow after fasting. Hope it is nothing bad did tell them i also get shortness of breath (only slightly and not often) but i figured that it's normal when big baby lying on organs! Anyone else feel this or had the glucose thing slightly?

SummerLightning · 23/10/2008 09:53

verso sorry to hear about your job. I am sure you will get some answers shortly and even if they are crap cop outs I'm sure you will feel a bit better after you have talked to your boss. Not surprised you are vvv p*ed off though, especially after you have been working so hard...they have definitely behaved very strangely, hope you get some way towards an explanation.

beans almost everyone I know who's had a baby has put on about 3 stone+ in total, so don't worry. I weighed 9 stone to begin with and am a shortie so may have expected to put on less, but I am over 11 now, so think it is going to be about 3 by the end. I don't know where they get these 1.5 stone things from! Even my friend who is 34 weeks has put on 1.5 stone and she hardly ate anything for the first 3 months! In fact I remember saying to a girl at work at the start ... oh god I'm going to put on 2 stone aren't it? And she laughed and said, errr no, think 3! She's right.

katie3677 · 23/10/2008 10:03

Verso sorry to hear about job problems, but just think, after this week you won't even need to let work cross your mind for a few months.

Has anyone else started to do some quite strange things (that I am hoping are linked to pregnancy hormones). For the last two nights, before I go to bed I have had an overwhelming urge to put makeup on, just so that I can take it off again. I very rarely wear make up, and it's not nice expensive stuff, but I haven't been able to resist the urge. My DH thinks I am completely barking! Maybe its an alternative to nesting as I have no motivation to do any housework at the moment!

On another subject, a few threads back there was a discussion about Maternity Allowance for people that are self employed. Has anyone actually got this sorted yet? I still haven't received my Mat B1, so not sure what to do.

Veggiemummy · 23/10/2008 10:28

beans i read that Ina May Gaskin childbirth book and she said to ignore doctors who tell you to only put on a certain amount of weight and actually i find it a little disturbing & irresponsible that he has told a pregnant women in third trimester to not put on anymore weight. I'm useless with the imperial system but i am on target for putting on 20kgs for this pregnancy which is the same as what i put on for last pregnancy and i lost all of it last time. there is this weird number (in the metric system it is 10kg) that doctors seem to cling to but it is completely inappropriate and you should never try to diet or control weight while pregnant (unless your really obese to start with then i think they have to be careful).

well the pizza didnt last long lastnight i brought it back up again, i don't know why i keep doing this, it's like i have another picky eater on my hands that has started very early. Also had a bad nights sleep as after vomit kept waking with bad indigestion. Also as good as DS has been am starting to feel the effects of too much to do without much break. Luckily DH back next tues so not long now.

katie LOL at the makeup thing, maybe your just wanting to feel a bit feminine...at a really odd time of day.

Just caught up - very skimmingishly if that's a word! verso -outrageous! Sorry for you about that. beans I feel like I've put on loads of weight but I think it's about 12kg, but i actually started 3 kg more than normal so i'm thinking it's at least 15kg that i already have to lose and it's not over yet! I don't know what that is in stone though, but you don't look very big at all in you piccy's... My Mum said that she couldn't eat enough to keep up with BF,and the M/W was worried about HER so I live in hope that i'll follow suit - although i'm 10 years older than when she beared childrenVeggie i know what you mean about eating - I always seem to feel really full and uncomfortable after a normal sized portion these days, but it doesn't register until well after i've eaten - and never comes back up! Sometimes I wish it did as i'd probably sleep better!
Hi Amy !

kmp1 · 23/10/2008 11:03

just converted the kg to stone - i've put on 1.9 stone to date! Ouch

Beans33 · 23/10/2008 11:28

Thanks Veggie - I'm not overly worried about it, I must say. In fact am feeling quite chirpy now! I don't feel like I'm that enormous and the baby is apparently "average" size from a feel of it, so I'm happy!

traceface · 23/10/2008 11:39

hello all!

olipop - thanks for the tips yesterday. We managed to do some baking and made some jewelery and then I found a friend who was home alone with her kids too so I went round to hers, which is always nice! A bit of telly is always good for a break too! sorry for my moaning! Got tumbletots this afternoon so something to look forward to!

I was feeling ok about the amount of weight I'd put on so far but my Wii fit has told me I've gained 6lbs in 2 weeks and that I'm now officially overweight! It doesn't know I'm pregnant but I still felt a bit cross with it!!! I think we should just focus on staying healthy and worry about the spare pounds once the babies are born - having said that I do seem to be enjoying crisps a little too much at the moment! I could live on Quavers given the chance!

hope everyone's feeling well today and that bumps are wriggling as they should...

Olipop · 23/10/2008 12:19

Hello all!
Verso Thats shocking...what gits.
Amy Welcome to the chatty bunch!
Trace Glad you survived the day!

Gawd knows how much weight I've put on..prob about 2 stone. I was eating quite well but I just want cake and chocolate at the moment! I think I put on 3 stone last time but it all came off really quickly. I think it was a combination of walking miles and miles (not going to be so easy with DS in tow), being too busy to eat (not very good for BF and I'm going to try not to let it happen again) and BF a ravenous boy!
My SIL also wondered if I went a bit over active on my thyroid. Apparently it can happen often (I currently take thyroxine for an underactive thyroid). I was a bit manic and hyper after DS was born...I thought it was just lack of sleep but it was probably a bit of legal speed!!!!!

Indith · 23/10/2008 12:34

and for Verso. Sounds very off.

Weight? What weight? Women don't put weight on in pg do they? They look radient and curvy and wonderful and fit right back into their jeans moments after coughing out a sprog

Hi Amy, welcome.

Beans33 · 23/10/2008 12:36

I'm banking on the 9 months on 9 months off theory as well. Hoping, too, that I lose a bit more than I've put on as I'd put on quite a bit before I got pregnant as well - think I was comfort eating post m/c.

I'm having a bit of a brat moment - just don't want to be at work at all! Terrible spoiltness going on - 12 working days to go - and actually, half of today has gone and I've got a midwife appointment on 6th in the afternoon, so only really 1 days - hahahah!

Is anyone else on NCT? They've just sent me an email changing all my dates - hmmmm.

Turniphead1 · 23/10/2008 12:38

Can I just say I have ordered my Christmas tree, santa visit for the DC, ham, and turkey. [Smug emoticon]. Just have to hope I will be around to eat them (apart from the tree) and not in hospital....

Hurray for the interweb too.

Beans33 · 23/10/2008 12:51

PS Meant 11 days, n ot 1 !

TheInvisibleHand · 23/10/2008 13:02

Hello Amy, Trace and Penny. Verso - am furious on your behalf. That's an outrageous way to behave. It would be one thing to encourage you, but then give the job to a fabulously more qualified candidate (assuming there was one) but leaving the post open in these circumstances is totally out of order. See what they have to say for themselves, but otherwise, make the most of your maternity leave and figure next steps after that. Hate to say it, do think being pregnant/being on leave subtly changes things. Just before I told work I was pregnant first time I was being told that I was a great candidate for promotion and that it would happen in a year or two. Got back from maternity leave, took 3 months to get any kind of sensible discussion out of my boss, only to be told that they were looking for a lateral hire, which she acknowledged would be hard to find. Personally, I think I may well use the end of my maternity leave to do a bit of job hunting....

Beans - glad the baby bean is moving well, but don't worry too much about it. I was reading that they start to run out of room, so move less, but more dramatically when they do!

LadyT - sorry you have been feeling rough! You'd never expect to be so ill from goji berries. Otherwise I'd say enjoy doing what you can while you can still do it! Obviously keep an eye on yourself, but as long as you're managing and having fun, its a shame not to make the most of things. Finally have baby sitting for a night out with DH on Friday and am so ridiculously excited about it. You'd never believe we used to get out virtually every night before DD....

Feeling a bit rubbish with heartburn and cramps. Calf muscles were totally siezing up every time I turned over last night. Ouch.
