Norash - I'm also not abandoning you! Still checking in at least once a day to see how you are doing.

No word from KerryJ

Pidge - your project with Iris sounds like a nightmare!!! Good luck.

Niklas has been wingeing all day today, he is usually very contented and happy, he hasn't had a poo for more than 2 days, we have tried everything else so we are guessing that's the problem.

sweeney · 29/03/2005 08:06

yes enjoy while you can. norash i thought my really bad nights sleeping in preg would prepare me for after but boy oh boy last night i got max 2 hours, i feel awful and just no joy in my heart. i sit bouncing him on my ball half the night. i think its this colicky thing, he seems in pain , drawing his knees up. my sis used tspoon onion water with her 2 but it didn't work at all with him last night. are others having such a mare?
my dp travels over 2 hours to work leogaela so not poss to pop back, mores the pity

Pidge · 29/03/2005 10:48

norash - i'm also still checking on your progress - hope you'll be joining us to complain of sleepless nights etc soon.

Just logged on in our local library where dd1 is choosing books with dp. Iris was going mad so I decided to feed her except she popped off the boob with the result that I sprayed the librarian with fountains of breastmilk!! OOps.

sweeney - lots of sympathy - I have moments like that - particularly at 5am - what a terrible time of day! We're lucky that Iris is actually sleeping very well - the challenge is getting her to sleep and keeping her asleep in the eveving. She nods off and then wakes screaming after 5-10 mins.

KerryJ · 29/03/2005 12:48

He's here!!!

Toby, born 27 March (his due date!) at 10.03pm, at home in the birthing pool. Weighed in at 7lbs 11.5oz and has loads of black spiky hair.

Turns out that 'show' was the start of things, and I had period type pains all day on Saturday. I was woken a few times Sat night with mild contractions, but nothing even remotely like the 'real thing' (so I thought!). These continued all day Sunday. At about 8.45pm called the midwife to let her know things were happening (contrax about 5 mins apart now but still not unbearable). I'd just had a bath and stuck the TENS machine on. She arrived at 9.20pm and I was 7cm dilated!!

Shortly afterwards the contractions were coming one on top of the other and I was feeling pushy. Waters went all over the living room floor (thank goodness we have wooden floorboards), so I leapt into the birth pool (after electrocuting dh and midwife with the TENS ) and after an 8 minute 2nd stage, out he popped!!! Talk about shocked. It was the most surreal and empowering experience ever - I went into complete Buddhist Monk mode and only actually pushed once - to get his body out. His head was born completely without effort from me, my body just took over. No tears or stitches atall!

Sorry if this is waffly - Toby asleep in my arms and I'm still a bit spaced!!

Norash...I am thinking of you and really hope things are happening for you!

Hello, just popped over from the due in Nov thread (qiute a way off for us lot) to say well done KerryJ!! Birth sounds perfect - wow!! I know there was only a couple of you left so have been watching this thread!

Well done to all the March graduates - what lovely babynames. Good luck to Norash, you must be saving the best for last!

Leogaela · 29/03/2005 18:06

Fantatic KerryJ! it is so good to hear another really positive birth story! Congratulations and welcome to Toby!!!

Norash - how are you doing? Today is your due date isn't it?

Sweeney, that sounds bad! Does Cosmo sleep during the day? Onion water sounds a bit strange to me, everyone here thinks that eating onions when bfeeding causes colic in babies so why wouldn't feeding him do the same. Everyone here gives their babies fennel tea. I have tried it with Niklas, was successful the first time, but since then he has worked out it wasn't milk and wasn't from my breasts! Also try massaging his stomach in a clockwise direction and make sure he brings up wind properly after eating (that has turned out to be very good advice from someone).... wow, I've been a mum for 5 weeks and already an expert !!!

LOL Pidge!!!

Anyone got any advice on how to get Niklas to take expressed milk from a bottle. He took it the first time when dh fed it to him, but now won't take it..... he is very attached to my nipples!

tamula · 30/03/2005 08:36

Wow KerryJ,

What a fantastic birth story! It sounds wonderful, dare I say perfect?! I'm so pleased for you and welcome Toby

I am 5 days overdue as of today, fingers and most bodily parts are crossed so that baby makes an appearance before they induce me.

Love Tam xx

tamula · 30/03/2005 08:41

Btw,

we've been decorating at home so i've had no access to the pc thats why i have been radio silent for a few weeks, it seems i've missed alot but if its any consolation Norash40 I'm still hanging about on this thread!!! I'll race ya?! Good luck!

Leogaela · 30/03/2005 10:10

Hey Tamula, nice to hear from you!
Hope you are feeling well, you sound very cheery!
When will they induce you if it gets to that?

tamula · 30/03/2005 12:11

hi leogaela,

they plan to kick-start me on Weds the 6th. I so dont want to be induced

i'd really love a naturally occuring labour and birth. In desperation I'll be trying the drinking of castor oil on Sunday night, eww!

I guess i do sound cheery, its my nature to smile in the face of adversity!! But I am way sick and tired of being pregnant, why cant we just lay an egg and sit on it for a week? Birds have all the fun!

KerryJ · 30/03/2005 12:26

Hi tamula! Glad to hear you're feeling perky even though you're still waiting I'm not sure whether or not it helped get things going for me, but I will share it anyway. When I was last examined by my midwife on 22nd March, NOTHING was happening with my cervix - it was soft, but still very high and not effaced or dilated in the slightest. I bought some Evening Primrose Oil capsules (500 mg) and took them twice a day - and voila, you know the rest!! Not sure whether it helped or not, but may be worth a try?

I'll keep checking in to see how you're doing!

Any news on Norash?

Kerry x

norash40 · 30/03/2005 15:55

Hi guys,

Sorry for the silence, I have been feeling a bit down with all this waiting. I would not normaly worry but this baby is huge and I have gone overdue.

I am scared . I have an appointment with the consultant at the hospital on Friday and will hopefully have some news then.

If i am silent from now please forgive me, but will let ya'll know what's going on.

Tamula I am glad you came back at least now I know I am not on my own. Oh and by the way the race is on. Careful with the castor oil you might do yourself a mischeaf

norash40 · 30/03/2005 15:57

Congratulations kerryj, I am so happy for you and yet so jealous . I hope you and Toby are doing well.

norash40 · 30/03/2005 15:58

Thanks everyone for wishing me well

bonym · 30/03/2005 16:42

Huge congratulations KerryJ - great birth story!

Glad to hear you are still about Tamula - hope things start moving for you & Norash soon .

Sweeney - have you thought of trying cranial osteopathy for Cosmo? We took Grace as we thought it might help when she was so unsettled in the evenings. Whether or not it's coincidence I don't know, but she has been incredibly calm ever since & is only waking once a night to feed. It certainly couldn't hurt anyway as it is incredibly gentle and it's not expensive - my osteopath charges £15 a session.

Norash,

sorry your having a bigun! I thought i was too but it turned out i have simply been a little over zealous with the pies and almond magnums, baby is joe average according to the sonographer.

Try not to fret though, easy for Ms average sized baby to say, but i do believe that you can and will do it. Be brave

Thanks to everyone else that said hi and hopefully norash and I will some interesting developments to report in upcoming days...

Love Tam

bonym · 30/03/2005 18:31

Norash - agree with Tamula - try not to worry because you will be fine. I am the world's biggest wimp when it comes to pain (truly) and everyone who knows me thought I was completely mad when I told them I was opting for a home birth (i.e. no epidural!!). BUT as well as being a wimp I am also extremely stubborn and... I did it with only gas and air - even though the pain was excruciating and I thought I would never push dd out (she was biggish at 8lb 10oz) - I did it and now feel quite proud of myself. I'm sure I'll still shout out with pain when I stub my toe though . You have to just keep telling yourself that it's productive pain and it will end and, what's more, the result is MORE than worth it .

Brilliant news kerryj - what a great birth story.

Norash - fingers crossed for some baby news for you really soon.

Leogaela · 31/03/2005 14:14

Norash & Tamula, checking in again to see how you are doing.

Tamula, I hope things start for you before Wednesday....! That would mean you would be almost 2 weeks overdue! Hope you can keep up your positive attitude! At least you have a date and can count the days down !

tamula · 31/03/2005 21:06

Hi Leogaela,

Thanks for asking how we are! I am not too bad, I've decided to forward my castor oil drinking to tomorrow afternoon. I am not looking forward to it but hope something gives.

I'm not sure what the science is behind castor oil and encouraging labour but i've heard it has a fairly good success rate so thats good enough for me!

How is Niklas? Is he your first baby?

Love Tam

bonym · 31/03/2005 21:45

Tamula - I know you are keen to get things moving but I have heard that drinking castor oil is not recommended. Not sure of exact reason but I think it can get baby's bowels moving (as well as yours) which could be a problem. Maybe it might be worth checking out (google it maybe?) before going ahead? I'm sure one of my books mentions this - I can check tomorrow for you if you like (sorry - too knackered tonight and on the verge of going to bed). Hope you don't mind me mentioning this.

OP posts:
pupuce · 31/03/2005 21:48

Tamula - castor oil is really not recommended HOWEVER it works well if your cervix is very favourable... how many weeks are you?

KerryJ · 31/03/2005 22:51

Hi Tamula

There's an interesting archive on the Radical Midwives site about natural induction methods, and castor oil is mentioned on there...not sure of how to add links so:

www.radmid.demon.co.uk

Also I think the Gentlebirth site has some info, too. As pupuce says, I think it should be used with caution and as with any induction method I guess, will only be effective if your cervix is ripe and ready.

All the best...will keep checking in on you and Norash!

Norash - hope you're okay.

tamula · 01/04/2005 09:48

HI Guys,

Thanks for all your advice, I'll definetly check castor oil out a bit first.

I am exactly 1 week late, but i had an internal exam about 10 days ago and was told that my cervix was still quite high up, the registrar couldnt reach it, I'm not certain how long it takes to ripen so i have no idea how far i've come along since then and they dont wish to see me again until my induction.

Thanks again for advice and i shall research right now!

Love Tam
