Happy Sundays all,
Lynny your dd sounds lovely and also gives me real hope for my friend. People keep telling her her ds (16 months) won't do this and won't do that - and they don't even have a diagnosis yet. She's withdrawing from everything because she just gets knock after knock - I think professionals just don't think about the implicationss of what they say very often.
Welcome back Berolina - you were missed and belated birthday greetings.
I'm having a very positive weekend. We just worked like crazy on the house yesterday - trying to rejig lots of things to make dd's new room ready. We achieved alot. We've also decided to get something done to our garden to make it more tidy/child friendly. Sod the money. So a man is coming round to quote later today. Hurray.
Uwila - I think your relationship with the nanny sounds more and more like having a MIL around the house ie an older woman who thinks she knows better than you. I think you're doing the right thing and it will be great for you to have a bit longer at home. Good luck with finding a new one - I trust we can all help with the selection process

uwila · 13/03/2005 09:09

Mornin' everyone. Just finished making DD some eggs!

Now off to find some suitable clothing that nany would no doubt disapprove of...

JonahB · 13/03/2005 12:27

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've not been on for a few days - i've been making the most of my time of work by reading, eating chocs, loafing, its just been lovely.

Charley, I?m definitely not riding any ponies with DH. For some unfathonable reason, being kicked constantly in the ribs or hips doesn't put me in the mood .

Hi Lynny, welcome to the thread and congratulations on your girl!! We need a few more girls to control all the boys due in June....

Uwila, there is little I can offer to the nanny debate, not ever having had one, but it sounds like it would be for the best if you went your separate ways. Your stress levels really dont need this with a newborn and a DH away for the week.

Well, my news is that i finally FINALLY have a new kitchen. I've been without one for over 2 months, so I'm over the moon. Oh, and I've also taken out a second mortgage to buy a cot and matress from Mothercare. I realised that I could probably sleep on the matress, curled up. They do seem large, don't they?

Not much else to say, sorry if i've missed out something really important. I'll write more next week when i'm back at work

LipstickMum · 13/03/2005 12:41

Wow Jonah, I didn't know you were having a new kitchen put in and that it was taking so long You must have had some building work done at the same time for it to be so lengthy?? I can sympathise. In Septmener, when dd was about 3 months, the builders arrived to extend our kitchen... 3 months later, and I mean literally, 5 days before Christmas the kitchen was finished and the units etc were installed. Hmmm weaning a baby without a kitchen, it was an experience. My neighbours saved my life.

Lynny, I don't know your village, but I live quite close to you. Due to severe internet paranoia I couldn't possibly tell you where though I'm very jealous of your gorgeous sounding village. Dp and I long for the 'perfect' home i.e. enough bedrroms, garage etc etc but it's not available where I live for much less than £800k I have seen about 68 other perfect properties in outlying villages though, sadly we are self-confessed townies and would wither up and die if we were not within spitting distance of a Starbucks We've thought about it often, but know we would be pretty hopeless at living in the country, very annoying

Dp is in bed again lol poor baby.

I'm going to make a treacle tart tonight for pudding, am positively salivating at the very thought of it, even now...!

charleypops · 13/03/2005 13:09

Lynny - I was in Kingston too yesterday - that was well enough for me in one day! Your daughter sounds sweet and like a real trooper. I don't blame you for not dragging her to the consultants all the time, sounds like you're doing everything you can anyway, and she's obviously very happy. Have you visited the SN threads here yet? They seem to be massively supportive and resourceful. Your village sounds lovely - wish I lived somewhere like that - if only for Elvis and the strippers in the village hall Why on earth did they have elastic bands around their thingies??

Berolina - Hi! long time HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY! you youngster you

Bubbaloo - Aw - your dh sounds perfect! what a sweetie.

Welshie - I'm impressed with your constructive weekend and doubly impressed that you're getting a man round to do the garden! As a stay at home I can't justify spending money on stuff like that, but the garden is one thing I'd love someone else to do. I think I'll have to get stuck in when Pod's out, he can help me from his pram in summer.

Jonah - oh goody! another member of the "No Pony Club"! I'm not such a freak! It must be nice having a new kitchen - lord knows when ours is going to be finished Who did yours? are you happy with it?

Lippy - 3 MONTHS? Blimey O'Riley! you poor thing. I hate having workmen in my house, I think because it's so small, there's just no escape. What's up with dp? Man 'flu? Oo treacle tart! You devil!

charleypops · 13/03/2005 13:12

Has anyone noticed we're over 600 messages?? Does anyone else think it might be time for Number 11??

charleypops · 13/03/2005 13:25

Uwila - You probably know about this anyway - but my neighbour gave me a copy of "The Family Grapevine" yesterday. It's a free magazine (mid Surrey Spring Issue - it's got a green cover) that covers our areas. It's so useful - loads and loads of info about anything to do with ante-natal post-natal and kids' groups, classes, therapies. You can pick it up from Libraries.

charleypops · 13/03/2005 13:27

There's quite a lot of nannie/au pair agencies listed too

charleypops · 13/03/2005 13:30

Aw! There's no one here I guess that means I'll have to try and fix the b***d washing machine again and resume tiling after all.....

Wrong fuel???

What did you put in? And what were you suppesed to put in?

LipstickMum · 13/03/2005 14:28

Oooops Lynny, I have nightmares about doing that, 1 car is diesel 1 is petrol. Not happened, so far..!

Charley, nothing up with dp that an early night wouldn't solve. I figure, if I let him have a nap, then I am owed something too Although I must stress, the rest of our relationship is not based on such petty, tit for tat bargaining

I'm so envious of you being able to do DIY. I need to make some curtains, but dd is about to wake up and I wouldn't be able to concentrate on a job like that. They'll probably take me about 3 weeks to make

I will have time to make the tart though

charleypops · 13/03/2005 15:33

Phew! fixed the washing machine finally - tried intermittently all day yesterday with no success. Going away on Thursday so need to gets loads done. I was beginning to have palpitations about having to go to the launderette . Hope it stays working now.

Lynny - what a NIGHTMARE! Dp did this with his massive SUV a few weeks ago. Dozy so and so. Put £60 petrol in it then as he replaced the nozzle realised he hadn't put diesel in it. Doh! At least he didn't drive it. That would have been it. Doh. He called the AA who said it was going to cost £600!! But the AA guy who turned up took pity on him and drove him to a local garage who drained it. It took nearly 3 hours and still cost over £300!! AND then dp had to walk 2 miles to the nearest garage to get a can of diesel so he could drive and fill it up again. That little escapade cost him nearly £500! . I hope it's better news for you, you poor thing!

Aw LIppy, curtains are easy peasy if you're not doing anything flash. It's just getting round to it though isn't it, clearing a space and stuff. I've got a massive pile of sewing. I'm going to get some elastic webbing from ebay and have a go at converting my old jeans for maternity use i think. I mean, how hard can it be? just chop them below the waist, cover the elastic and sew it on?!

bubbaloo · 13/03/2005 16:04

afternoon,

lynny, sorry to hear about the car-hope its not as bad as charleys dp's
i am soof all this diy-i'd love to be able to fix anything.our dyson broke in the week and it just turned out the filters were clogged with cat hairs but it took dh ages to work it out and as for curtains...there is no way i could even begin to make a pair-infact thats normally what i sell on ebay as my dad has a curtain shop

Glad you're feeling better Lynny and thanks for the info re strippers willies - you never know when information is going to come in handy.

SMUG WARNING

I'm afraid I'm impossibly smug having gone to the flower market early, gone to church, had SIL round for lunch, worked in the garden, had sister and family round to watch WALES WIN THE RUGBY (apologies to Scotties everywhere), cut dh's hair, helped him mend the shower head, a cupboard door, and a tap (a bit), done 3 loads of washing, one Ocado order.....phew dh has also promised to give our lovely new shelves a coat of paint.....see told you I was smug. I feel so much better having actually started to get things in place for June...again sorry for smugness

LipstickMum · 13/03/2005 19:39

Blimey! You have every right to feel smug

I spent the afternoon asleep on the sofa, bang went my treacle tart. Not that bothered because I have a pack of Oreo's and Haagen Daaz in the freezer. Can't decide to just scoff the ice-cream or make it into a milkshake.

I wish we could get on with some baby preparation Those fucking builders are pissing me off now I'm itching to decorate and nest and all I can do is watch them accumulate more mess

uwila · 14/03/2005 06:33

Yippee... First post of the morning. How is everyone? Hopefully well. Nothing really to report. Just wanted to be first.

Morning all, quick dull question if I may - where are people getting their maternity tights from?

katzguk · 14/03/2005 09:09

morning all

did someone call for a new thread - defineatly someone elses turn to come up with a witty title!!

Had a nice weekend, did some work on the bump and DD's bedroom. DD has decided that shes having a rainbow painted above her bed, so just hope the walls are smooth enough for it to all look good. i promise to post pictures on the yahoo site when it done so you can all admire it!! Order the new carpet for the room on saturday, got a real bargin, popped into the local shop and for the carpet (heavy domestic grade) underlay, gripper rods and fitting £175!!! bargin we payed twice this for our bedroom carpet!

Mornin' Welshie,
My vote goe to M&S. They are sturdier than the kind that I find at Blooming MArvelous or Mothercare. I never thought to look at M&S until it was moentiond on this thread. So, the tip actually is Lippy's credit, not mine.

On a more spiteful childish note, I got up early today, so I had time to get DD dressed in a cute little skirt outfit. I'm sure nanny doesn't like it. It was my passive agressive bit of self amusement for the day.

The more I think about our conversation last week, the more shocked I am with my own willingness to cave into her demands... which in itself is unacceptable.

teabelly · 14/03/2005 09:26

Morning all,

Just thought I'd pop on quickly whilst dh takes ds to nursery and before we slope off for our lazy pub lunch

Lynny - thanks for the info about your dd - I couldn't agree more sometimes 'specialists' poke around for ages and are no nearer an answer...definitely sounds like she's happier being left to it, she sounds like a handful, but glad you've got to the cuddly stage - still so long as she's not doing it infront of everyone like my ds - yesterday at a friends lo's christening, he was telling everyone around us in the church about baby Amber in mummy's tummy and then the next thing he's pulling my trousers down to show everyone !!

Sorry to hear about your petrol/diesel mishap - it's worse when dh is nice about it too - esp if like me you'd have had a right go at them if the boot was on the other foot! MK and Kingston in one day - I'm impressed. I know roughly where you are as I go on the A421 route bewteen Oxf and home when visiting the rellies...I was going to ask the same question as Charley did about the elastic bands!!! Hmmmm hope it wasn't the rubber band sort! ouch when they have to remove them, he he he!

Ok so having lowered the tone of the thread again successfully I'm gonna have to go now!

Quickly tho...

Berolina hiya, belated birthday greetings, glad you're back.

Coop hope you're feeling better today

Charley - a seemstress too?? No end to your talents eh! I should have married you instead of dh!

Ok going now - will probably find you all on a new thread tomorrow...x
