Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lummox · 10/03/2005 20:39

thanks tribpot - think i will. maybe after the weekend so that i am not putting it up by fretting about it having gone up.

anyone doing anything exciting for the weekend? it's starting to really sink in that we're not going to be doing anything much in a few months time, so we're trying to think of all the things we need to fit in before bubba arrives.

we're planning the cinema, but any other suggestions?

Lua · 10/03/2005 20:39

Lummox,
High blood pressure can be a sign of pre- eclampsia, which can become something to worry about. . It is not uncommon to go up and down a little bit, I don't know if yous would be considered a significant increase. But I would make sure to check blood pressure regularly for the next few weeks to see if there is a clear pattern. Most likely it was just a small blip and nothing to be worried about.

Sorry, don't know much about chips...

lummox · 10/03/2005 20:40

(ones that i wouldn't be ashamed to mention to my maiden aunt, please)

lummox · 10/03/2005 20:41

thanks lua - do you think it worth getting one of the home testing things?

Lua · 10/03/2005 20:41

and haven't been to the cinema since DD was born !!

Lua · 10/03/2005 20:44

Sorry Lummos cross post.... Do you live close by your GP? they probably won't mind if you just pop in once a week to get it measured, do you think?
As trib said 120/80 doesn't really warrent too much worries per se... it depends on what is your normal pattern. As long as it doesn't keepgetting higher, you should be fine!

bubbaloo · 10/03/2005 20:45

lummox-my blood pressure was 110 over 60 for two visits, then 110 over 70 and last week it was also 120 over 80.my midwife said that was completly normal as i commented thinking it might be high so i dont think it can actually be that bad
on the subject of monster munch...they've made them smaller so you have to have a couple of packets a time-ive been good and only had one packet today

lummox · 10/03/2005 20:48

thanks again to all - i do live close to the GP, but have only been once since pregnant and have always found it takes at least 14 days to get an appointment. am glad we won't be living here after the baby (although they may be better about babies - i certainly hope so).

bubaloo - that's really reassuring, thank you

lummox · 10/03/2005 20:49

back to monster munch - can you get the roast beef ones on their own, or only in variety packs?

very sadly, can't eat the pickled onion ones now because of heartburn

bubbaloo · 10/03/2005 20:53

think they only come in the variety pack.i get through soooooooo many in a week,i only buy the variety packs
whats really annoying though is the pickled onion ones only come in packs of 6-if you buy the packs of 10 you also get the flaming hot and the roast beef which are ok if im desperate,i suppose

lummox · 10/03/2005 20:54

bubaloo - i feel a swap coming on. i only like the roast beef.

is there anyone out there who only likes flaming hot? we could save a fortune.

bubbaloo · 10/03/2005 20:56

LOL!!!
i'll eat anything at the mo-im not fussy

Cooperoo · 10/03/2005 21:07

Hello all,
Lummox - Try not be too concerned about the blood pressure. I think lots of factors can alter it that amount from being in a rush, stressed, worrying, to the nurse taking the measurements. When is your next routine appt? However if you are still worried then push for another test. Better this than sit at home worrying, more stressful IMO. My BP has varied from 85/55 to 110/80. I wouldn't buy a home test as this may cause more concern as we are not trained to interpret the results and it costs money. Use your NHS!!
We were bought a shocking amount of clothes for dd, some from people who were strangers to me (colleagues of my mums and neighbours who hadn't even realised I was preg etc). I was glad that I had been so strict and only bought a few white vests and babygrows. I was mad at the time though with dh for making me wait. I felt that everyone else was getting to buy and choose all the fun stuff and all I was allowed to buy was cot sheets and white vests. Grrr. I reckon if you do buy loads of stuff don't wash it all and keep the receipts. It is such fun though isn't it? I sound like a right preachy so and so there, sorry. I am just speaking from my experience, hope you get other opinions.....
Uwila - Good to hear your rant, and glad you have had a result with the egg etc. You have soooo much to deal with at the mo! I would be pulling my hair out, and the onus and decision making seems to fall to you....
Red - I am so impressed with your organisational skills, claiming a filing cabinet and getting it home etc with minimal effort on your part. A lesson for us all there. Just cos it is called a filing cabinet doesn't mean you have to actualy file in it. Why not just use it as a drawer, papers out of sight etc. Much less work .
Bubbaloo - Glad you had a good shopping spree. My retail therapy worked wonders for my state of mind last week.
Lynny - Glad you had a good scan. In the words of Rolf Harris 'Do you know what it is yet???'

Cooperoo · 10/03/2005 21:09

Cross posted - I must type so slowly!!
14 days for an appt . Eeek. I haven't got a clue have I living here in my bubble?

Morning all.
Ooohh Lynny congrats on your girl, do you have any names for us?? It is so exciting. I had a late night last night doing a book party again and could not get to sleep until gone 1am. DD up at 6.15. Yawn. It could be a long day. She is absolutely fine today and in fact perked up half an hour after the Calpol last night (magic stuff) and ate loads for tea. It is odd. We have all had coughs and colds since Christmas. I blame the lack of central heating and the horrid gas fires we get as an alternative. She has had a cough for a long time too but the doctors say it is not an infection and she will get better.
Well have good days everyone. Will catch up later.

Morning laydeez.
Lynny congrats on your little girl, girls are fab - I can highly recommend them (Sure boys are lovely too )
Did we all have rough nights? I was woken up at 4am by a strange dream about sequinned evening bags, then spent ages trying to get back to sleep with dh snoring at my side, baby kicking about inside and dd talking to her toys next door 'ssh sparklebear, mummy and daddy are sleeping and you are not allowed to get up yet'. At least we all slept until 7 when it all settled down at just gone 5!
KVG - I do get these pains at the top of my bump too - I think it may be a contraction as my stomach goes very hard.
Uwila and all haters of the double buggy - I'm right with you. I will not get one of these, or I will seriously feel like my life is over.
Redheadmum - do you know prefernot? We got together a couple of times but have failed since then. I hope things are good with her - I should cat her really.
Charley - Osian is pronounced 'o-shan' with the 'o' sound like in 'of' Anyone else giving middle names too?
And a message to all those out there whose stomachs have not yet shrunk to the size of a small apple - eat a big curry while you can. I kept putting it off and now I just couldn't do it at all - I am now resigned to suppers of creme caramels and yogurt (last night's intake)

uwila · 11/03/2005 09:54

We are giving two middle names, unles he turns out to be a girl, in which case just one middle name.

As for the nanny, she is back on the sh1t list. She just seems to get so offended when I ask her to do something, and she turns very defensive/aggressive about it. As her employer, I need to be able to review her work and ask for improvement in certain areas. I regard this as a fundamental aspect of any emplyee/employer relationship. And I had to literally argue and put my foot down this morning. I'm not all worked up and fuming like I have been recently. But, I do feel it is unacceptable for her to argue with me when I ask her to do her job. All I asked, was that at the end of the day when she puts DDs toys away to make sure that the toy parts go with their respective toys. I'm rather unhapyy with her tone. I think it was rude and out of line. I'm considering tha my next nanny may be a younger one. I'm also re-evaluatinf if she is really so valuable that I can not afford to let her go for the sake of being able to afford one more month of maternity leave.

One of the main reasons I am so opposed to doubly buggies is that I do not have a spare car for the nanny, and I feel it would not be reasonable for me to ask a nanny to get on the train to go to activities with a double buggy.

I can't wait until my children are old enough to go to free school!! Then, I shall get an au pair, save money, and not have to worry about the care they are getting at school. But, now with the Jaimie Oliver campaign, I do wonder what they will be eating!

welshmum · 11/03/2005 10:01

Uwila I do sympathise, even with our wonderful childminder I still have to occasionally 'let things go' when I'd prefer they were done differently - mainly because almost everything else the cm does is fab. DD is mostly at nursery now but we maintain one afternoon with cm so they can keep their friendship going. Can I ask you a cheeky question? Is it about feeling that certain roles must be maintained? do you feel that 'if you give her an inch she'll take a mile'etc? and if so do you think she really will? Just wondering. Are you mostly happy with her? Is dd doing well in her care? Do you think the other stresses in your life are making your relationship with nanny more difficult? (Just a few nice easy annoying questions for your morning - tell me to sling my hook if you want to - won't be offended - well not much )

Lua · 11/03/2005 10:05

Morning all!
Congratulations on your girl Lynne! It's a relief to know that if MY DS punch all the other DS's in this thread he might get at least ONE girlfriend!!

So what are monster munchs? Are they just some different kind of crisps? Do enlighten me pleeeaasee?

And do it fast, because my stomach is like welshie's and getting smaller every day. I am that I still have not finished my box of chocolates from last sunday! So I get the biggest belly of alll and cannot eat! Not fair!!

welshmum · 11/03/2005 10:07

Lua - I have 4 big bars of Green and Blacks in the fridge. This is because I can't squash them in after I've had what passes for supper these days. How annoying is that???? apologies if I have become tedious on this matter.

Cooperoo · 11/03/2005 10:22

Hello all. I feel a bit wobbly today and keep getting pins and needles in my hands and teeth (?). I think I just need a rest so this is what I shall be concentrating on this afternoon. . That and the bar of Dairy milk in the fridge.
Monster munch - Hmm I only like the fiery hot ones and hate the way they stick round your teeth. Lua, where have you been?? Have you really never had Monster Munch???
Lol Welshie at dd and the sparkle bear comments. Sweet.
We will be going for one middle name. We are struggling to agree on two at the mo and wouldn't manage to find three that were acceptable. I like middle names though.
Uwila - Sorry the nanny is still causing problems. It must be so difficult creating a balanced work relationship esp when something as precious as a child is involved. It is a hard one. You need to be able to trust her above all else but it does sound like you think she does have your dd's best interests at heart. One more month of maternity leave is a factor though, but then you will have to start again with someone from scratch.... I get the feeling I am not going to be helping much so will stop now. Time for dd's nap. Hooray.
