alterego: received some info before scan re nuchal: says 12-13 weeks screening for downs!

jmummy: it's just great! i could see everything so clearly. she didn't even have to point things out to me! could see the shape of body and hands, legs; it jumped up and down loads and waved alot and sucked it's thumb!

wow - that makes it so real now

and i got new app for 20 weeks scan! - that one will be to measure growth / check abnormalities / check placenta / and if you want to you can find out the sex

Oh yay good news all round then
will celebrate all your news by consuming loads of chocolate.

jessicasmummy · 23/03/2005 16:28

i had a 20 week scan with jessica and got photos then, but a 12 week one is new to me. unfortunately our hospital here wont tell you the sex of the baby which is a bummer coz we really wanted to know this time!

bonniej · 23/03/2005 16:44

susi, congrats!!! welcome to all the newcomers. I got my scan date through today for 8th April which will make me about 13 weeks at time of scan. Only got offered one due to constant hassling of midwife! Haven't even had booking appointment yet. I'm really looking forward to the scan though as it doesn't seem real at the moment. Sickness is definately easing off a lot which is great, but I'm still ready for bed by 9pm every night. speak soon x

Joseyjo · 23/03/2005 17:11

hello all - glad to hear that the weather is cheering everyone up a bit!!
I am officially 12 weeks today, so a big sigh of relief all round.
I have also just secured the baby a place at nursery for June 2006!!! Seems mad that I need to do this now, but the nurseries round us are so busy that they are booked up over a year in advance. Not complaining though as that means I will HAVE to take at least 9 months maternity leave!!
NT scan tomorrow at 8.30 in the morning, so fingers crossed that all goes well - more pictures .
right snack time again.....

redseasharon · 23/03/2005 19:11

Advice req'd! I was shopping in the local market stocking up on fruit when I got distracted by an organic free range sausage stall with a freshly cooked batch (as you do)

I tried a miniscule portion of 1 cooked sausage only then to here the stallholder inform a buyer that they were blue cheese pork sausages

I've read up on pretty much everything you can't eat, but didn't bother with blue cheese 'cos I hate it. I'm probably worrying about nothing 'cos it was cooked and very small.

But would welcome any reassurance that I'm fretting about nothing.

morningpaper · 23/03/2005 19:17

Sharon you should be fine - the only worry with blue cheese is that is can cause food poisoning which MAY be a problem with the baby's development. You will be fine.

I am still feeling nauseous and now my second-trimester back problems are kicking in... oh joy... I feel like Jeff Goldblum in the fly when he's crawling on the floor hissing kill me...

Tommy · 23/03/2005 19:17

My GP told me that as long as cheese was cooked properly - as a sausage would be - and not just flashed under the grill, then it was fine. I was asking her about goats cheese (love it - can't imagine 9m without it!)
You'll be fine I'm sure

redseasharon · 23/03/2005 19:31

Thnx Tommy & mp. I just can't believe how neurotic I've become. Plz tell me it improves?

morningpaper · 23/03/2005 19:36

No, it gets worse and worse and then they leave home and you worry constantly. So I hear.

Actually this is my second and it's much less stressful this time around! (Although with a 2 year old there isn't much time to think, never mind worry!)

All panicking is normal though.

Tommy · 23/03/2005 22:15

You wait til third time!
I don't really have time to think about being pregnant - fortunately I'm feeling OK and still haven't been or felt sick. I am knackered though so really I should go to bed now but DH is at tescos doing big shop and I sort of feel I chould wait up for him......

Elf1981 · 24/03/2005 07:27

Redseasharon, I told my boss on Tuesday. Only because I'm waiting for my scan appointment to come through and it falls at the busiest time at work (where you have to be dead not to come to work or face the consequences!) and I need the time off. He was fine about it. Said congratulations and that it was exciting and stuff. Told him that I should be returning to work after he asked, but he did then back down and say he probably shouldn't have asked me and he could get in trouble for asking. Told him that however covered my job while I was away must do it to my standards and I wasn't prepared to come back to loads of crap with relation to my work not being done properly. He thought that was funny, but agreed totally. It's hard becuase I work in the kind of envirnoment where if you drop the ball on one little thing, it can spiral out of control quickly and it's hard to bring stuff back into line.
Supposed to be going dog racing tonight with work but am going to get out of it. Don't care if I get in trouble for the fact they've booked my ticket. Spent all last night coughing my guts up (got a bad throat) and all morning chucking my guts up.
Plus its my SIL birthday so I've got to pop and see her with DH or I'll get in trouble!

Welcome to all the newposters. And congrats to all those who are having scans in the next few days - I can't wait for mine!

Love Elf

jessicasmummy · 24/03/2005 10:37

just sitting waiting for 1pm to arrive when i can head off to hospital for my scan.... really nervous for some reason - its not as if its my first baby or anything!

no doubt ill be back later to let you all know how it went.... just wish i could shake off this nerves thing!

RudyDudy · 24/03/2005 10:39

jm - I am so . Mine is not until next Wed and I am desperate for it! Don't know why either but I am also really nervous. Personally I think the first trimester is quite stressful and the scan is quite a landmark. Good luck this afternoon - looking forward to hearing how you get on

mishmash2 · 24/03/2005 13:29

Morning ladies! Sorry I have been out of touch for a while - went off skiing last week which was awesome (didn't fall luckily) and then work has been sooooo manic on my return that I have barely had time to log on and read what you all have been up to! Anyway, had my scan yesterday and it was amazing. It leaped all over the place and you can see legs and arms easily etc. etc. Got a video and 3 pics so am well chuffed! Luckily also low risk for down's etc so can now start relaxing. no explanation for my bleeding though - am still spotting 3 weeks on - in fact only have had 1 week off in the past 6!! I thought that was one of the benefits of pregnancy - no period!!

I'm so pleased all of you are feeling better and we're all having scans now. My due date is 6th Oct - my b'day is 7th so I'm rather hoping it won't be then - can picture better things to do than be grunting, sweating, screaming etc!!

Best of luck to those who are having them soon.
x

morningpaper · 24/03/2005 13:36

Thinking of you Jessicasmummy - let us know how the scan goes. Good luck! xxx

jessicasmummy · 24/03/2005 14:25

scan is over and done with.... not 12 weeks as thought! 10 weeks tomorrow - due 21st October.

Got a little picture! What a little wriggler!

RudyDudy · 24/03/2005 14:28

how lovely for you - and was there just the one? - were you one of the people wondering about twins earlier?

jessicasmummy · 24/03/2005 15:11

yeah i was wondering, but no - only one!

bonniej · 24/03/2005 15:37

congratulations!! Really good to hear about all these lovely scans. I'm looking forward to mine on the 8th but worried about having a full bladder! I had real trouble with dd and ended up going to the loo just before as I really couldn't hold it anymore and it meant they couldn't do it and I had to go back. I've heard some hospitals have scanning machines that don't require you to drink loads beforehand. wish mine did

Jockey · 24/03/2005 15:41

Hi everyone. Had my dating scan today and am due 12th October. One little bean waving around. This is my 4th but I was so nervous you wouldn't belive it - it doesn't seem to matter how many you have! Excited at the same time though. It makes it all real somehow - there is actually something there!!! Just need to get through the nuchal scan now week after next.

Good luck to all having scans. Have a lovely break!

mawbroon · 24/03/2005 15:58

Great to hear about everyones scans. I am looking forward to mine but it is another 2 and half weeks yet as I am not due until the very end of Oct. Had a dreadful day yesterday. Had a bit of an argument the night before with DH (over nothing!) and started thinking about the argument on the train to work yesterday morning. I burst into tears on the train and cried the whole journey (half an hour). Everyone was looking the other way and pretending that there was not a snivelling wreck sitting opposite them!! I was so embarassed but I just could not stop. Normally I can totally keep that kind of thing in check. I arrived at work a mess and had to tell my boss that I am pg. She was great and said all the right things which made me feel a whole lot better. She also said that she is selling all her baby stuff now that her kids are a bit older and was I interested in buying any of it!! The funny thing about my job is that I am covering maternity leave for someone else!! Something about that seat I think!

Hope you all enjoy the easter weekend.

SusiS · 24/03/2005 19:06

saw my mw early in the morning (8.45 ) took almost an hour with all them questions and informations and tests! but well pleased with her; guess i've got myself a really nice one! unfortunately i can't go to the hospital i'd like to due to being 'high risk' (because of pre em. c-section) that hospital does only 'normal' births or planned sections! since i'd like to at least try and have a natural birth this time i'll have to go to another hospital. but i still can change my mind - oh, and due to the 'high risk' thingy i'll get another app at 16 weeks! (normally i would skip that one as a 2nd timer) - and already another scan booked for week 20 - so busy busy busy - but at least now something's happening!!!!

Hi all. Frightening night last night, had a bit of bleeding. Freaked out and rang the numbers I'd been given who told me to rest, keep an eye on it and call emergency doctor if I got any bad pains or started clotting. That freaked me out! DH made me lie on sofa all night, made my tea and let me watch anything I wanted on telly, even stuff he hates! Bleeding stopped, not had any today (cross fingers, touch wood, etc etc) but slept in until 11:00. Was worried as didn't have any morning sickness like usual. Panicked thinking something was wrong. Spoke to my sis, then rang DH about something. I said I'd cook him tea for when he got home... and lo and behold had to throw phone down and was sick in a bowl in the kitchen. Sorry if TMI!!
So I'm taking it from that things are okay. Fingers crossed. Spoke to my mum last night and she kept coming up with people that had bled during their pregnancies and had healthy babies, which logically I know, as a friend of mine bled throughout her pregnancy. But it's still no comfort when it's happening to you.

I've got my fingers crossed anyway, still waiting for my scan date so I'm just going to try and think positive!

Popping out with my sister today to the place where she is having her wedding reception, which is where I had mine, so that will be fun.

Have a good day everybody!
