Good luck with the next few days alterego - we'll all be thinking of you! It will be great to be able to relax a bit more.

triceratops · 21/03/2005 18:31

Sorry to hear that you are off colour jm. Fingers crossed for you alterego - it is a weird feeling to be glad to be sick.

I am still in the land of vom but only a week and a half to go, as I keep telling myself. I have just had my alloted weekly glass of wine which was bliss. I almost miss that more than being able to eat food. Almost.

Moomin · 21/03/2005 19:54

hello all. feeling a bit better overall even tho i'm only 9 wks on weds. managed to get some orange juice down me this weekend which helped no end and also had a couple of small meals. have been retching more than vomming now, which is an improvement. still feeling ropey mid afternoon though and am enjpoying this time off work by staying in bed til very late each morning.

lol morningpaper about the comment in 'what to expect'. honestly some of these books are priceless. my next door neighbour lent me a very battered old book which is about 20 yrs old written by a man. the bit on morning sickness starts "try not to feel sorry for yourself"... than goes on to say "don't upset yourself by cooking fatty foods for your family, they will just have to out up with bland food for a while until you feel better"... er, what about "let them make the bloody meals themseves and wait on YOU while you get your feet up"??!!!

have got dh very excited as i said we might be able to resume 'normal service' at some point soon as long as i can keep myself fed and watered!

Elf1981 · 21/03/2005 20:06

Felt a bit better today. No sick spells, just gagging. Managed to have a fried brekkie for lunch today as well as a small Chicago town pizza for tea. Much better! Also went to the market (off work today) and spent £4 on LOADS of fruit. DH is on about getting me a juicer so if I can't be arsed to eat the fruit, at least I can drink it! I know it would be easier to buy the juice, but I already drink loads of cranberry, so it would be nice to make my own addition to cranberry juice depending on my cravings!
Thinking of telling my boss this week. Slightly worried as I have my apprasial at end of the month and my appraisial is linked to my pay rise and bonus. Argh! Any suggestions?

Hope everybody who feels sick starts feeling better... everybody who is feeling better, keep it up, it gives me hope! I'm 10+5 (according to my dates, will have to wait til the dating scan to confirm.

Love Elf.

Jessica'sMummy - My midwife said that she wouldn't bother trying to hear the heartbeat with a doppler until 16 weeks. In fact, she said that she had once phoned the hospital to report that she couldn't find a heartbeat at 12 weeks and got shouted at for trying!!!!

Elf - your boss cannot use the fact you are pregnant against you in an appraisal, in fact if he/she does then you can take them to the courts!! Might be worth more than the pay rise!!!
I still got a pay rise last year and I was off on maternity leave for 4 months of the appraisal period.
If you are still unsure then don't mention it. You are not legally obliged to tell your employer until you about 3 weeks before you intend to go off (according to the maternity benefits document that my employer publishes) but that might be considered slightly cheeky!!
I told my boss at 7/8 weeks as I have had quite a few scans and they take a good half day - difficult to explain away with lies. I decided it was too complicated and told him. He has been very supportive and is far more worried about me and the baby than dh is!!
Anyway, busy shopping for some decent maternity work trousers as my belly is bursting out of my current trousers and starting to embarrass me!

Elf1981 · 22/03/2005 08:05

I'm in two minds about telling my boss. He's fairly new at being the boss and logically I know that I cannot be peanalised for being pregnant. But the fear is still there. I know I've performed really well since I started working there, and have had a good payrise during that time, so I should be okay in my appraisial.
One of the reasons I want to tell him this week is the fact that I am expecting my scan date to come through the post soon (was told on Thursday it would be 2 - 3 weeks) which falls in our busiest period of the year. So I wont be able to fib for a reason as to why I need the time off.
DH suggested that I wait to tell until I get the scan date - that way I can make a better decision as to when I need to tell, and also it should fall after my apprasial.
Will see how I fell today. Might just blurt it out!

Elf1981 · 22/03/2005 08:08

Oh and ref heartbeat - I was surprised that my midwife didn't check for the heartbeat. I'd read up on what can happen in booking in appointments and one suggestion that was if you were over a certain amout of weeks, they'd listen for the heartbeat.
But our midwife just said that we'd see it on the dating scan and hear it at the 20 week scan.
One book I have suggests that DH should be able to hear the heartbeat through the stomach, but can be difficult to pinpoint depending on position. Might suggest this to my DH - he's currently 'singing' to the baby! Mind you, I have a bit more padding than others so it might be harder for him to hear it through all the cushioning!!

jessicasmummy · 22/03/2005 08:10

well thats one reason i was concerned because i aint exactly a stick insect!!! i honestly didnt think you could hear the heartbeat this early - oh well, im sure the scan will reveal more - roll on thursday!!!!

bonniej · 22/03/2005 09:18

with my dd I heard the heartbeat at 11 weeks. It was the most fantastic sound but took ages to find. They can't always manage to locate it really early on though and I suppose it can cause more worry if they can't find it. I can't wait to hear this ones heartbeat or see a scan picture. It just doesn't seem real at the moment as my belly isn't doing a lot and even my sickness has gone away now! (that's a good thing, I know). Glad everyone else is doing wellxx

YOKEFLEET · 22/03/2005 13:47

Afternoon Ladies, Hope you are feeling better. I am now 12w+2d and I really want to bloom!!! Still really suffering with the tirdness/forgetfulness and nausea. Anyway today is my last day at work until next Wed as we are going to Wales for a break, so I told my boss about pg yesterday (I was dreading it as it is quite a large company 150+ employees but office based there are only 5 of us including the MD) So told MD and he was ok with it, also told him that I don't indend to return after the baby's born, and that really suprised him. It was weird telling him that bit as the only people I had discussed it with before where my dh and my parents, it made it more real somehow.
ah well I better stop waffling and get some work done!!

morningpaper · 22/03/2005 14:04

Hi Yokefleet, aren't you supposed to "decide" whether to return AFTER the baby's born, otherwise some companies won't give you maternity pay? (This was the case with my old civil-service based company.) Have you checked this?

Have a nice break!!!

YOKEFLEET · 22/03/2005 14:11

MP - The reason I have told them now is that I have worked for them 12yrs and I am the only person who does my job, I only have a very limited amount of cover for hols etc who just cover the essentials, as I know I aren't coming back, I know I need plenty of time to train someone new up on the job, if I had said I might come back they would have just made do with the limited cover until I was back and I wouldn't want to drop them in it.
The thing about possibility of no sick pay - well he wouldn't dare as I know to much!!!! lol

YOKEFLEET · 22/03/2005 14:12

sorry forgetfulness again I meant Mat Pay!!!

hamilton · 22/03/2005 16:22

hi all,
i'm 9 weeks and 3 days today but i've been having strange cramps at bottom of abdomen like mild sharp period pain, barely notice them sometimes. Rang hospital twice but they said there is nothing they can do unless i'm bleeding which i'm not but they haven't said what it could be, any ideas?

Tommy · 22/03/2005 16:41

Don't know hamiliton but I get them too - feel like my period's just about ot arrive and have felt like this since I though it was (IYKWIM!)
I sort of figured out that unless there's any bleeding (which there hasn't been)everything's probably OK. This is my 3rd pregnancy so you'd think I would know/remember wouldn't you? I'm sure it's fine - I think a lot of people have similar pains

cori · 22/03/2005 19:49

Well am now 12 wks + 1. 2Weeks till my first scan. Cant wait.
Dont feel the nausea as much now, though it is still there.
I am still exhausted though. I didnt feel so tired last time.... when do i get my energy back.?

redseasharon · 22/03/2005 22:33

Hi, I am 10+3 I think with 1st. Sooo excited. Keep panicking thru lack of symptoms no sickness, breasts did hurt but no longer and tiredness passed - guess should count blessing but until dating scan will worry! Done 3 pg tests so far

Told parents, my MIL keeps asking what are our reasons for not telling other family yet - v. annoying.

Elf - in same situ as u re bonus and pay review. I have kept quiet and will reveal after dating scan on 6th Apr. I work for a Hi St bank so know the legal spiel, but let's face it we live/work in real world.

Love to talk to any1 else who goes in the same second, from sheer delight to terror of s.thing going wrong

SusiS · 23/03/2005 08:24

Mimixx · 23/03/2005 12:51

Hi everyone! This is my first visit to this board - it was recommended on another board and you look like you're all having a good time! I'm due on October 24 - so I'm 10 weeks pregnant - and so far it's been really easy. Very little nausea, a bit of dizziness, and my left booby has started to grow but the right one is still in it's normal size , but apart from that I'm all in good shape! I think the worst for me are the mood swings .

I told my boss on Monday and he was so great - he gave me a big hug and gave me all congratulations, and said that we'll sort something out - he's really nice, I think it's because his wife just had a baby a few months ago and he's still on a high!

anyway, I'm hoping to check this board regularly, big hug to everyone!

Hi mimixx, welcome to our merry little band.

I'm 10 + 5 today and beginning to get cautiously optimistic. Scan tomorrow. Haven't heard when my nuchal is yet. Can't remember if it's supposed to be done between weeks 11 and 13 or weeks 11 and 14. Does anyone know? I need to know when to start hassling the GP about it.

jessicasmummy · 23/03/2005 13:50

Fantastic news about your scan.... i wasnt really sure what i would see on mine tomorrow but you have helped no end!!!! Roll on 1.50pm tomorrow!!!!

morningpaper · 23/03/2005 13:51
