Stop changing the subject MS-glutton! I am stuffing my face with Green and Black's so I don't care about your lovely meal and I am not .

For disposables went through Moltex and Bambo before settling on Nature Babycare because they are waaaaaaay cheaper and I can get them at Sainsbury's. They do have crystals though but they are fairly environmentally friendly and don't stink of chemicals like Huggies and Pampers.

As a reformed smoker who enjoyed the chemicals leaching into my skin from the odd nicotine patch, I imagine all those nappy chemicals invading my precious little ones in much the same manner. Disposable nappies are possibly far worse for boy bits than girl bits.

Disposable liners mostly though I did quite like the fleecy ones sometimes and silk ones are great for nappy rash.

It is really summery here. Been digging in the garden (DH, I have been directing) and planting out my rosemary and lavender.

MarkStretch · 12/10/2008 16:02

Sorry, I am a pig aren't I?!?!

But on the subject of nappies, I used reusables with dd when I had the luxury of a cheap money nappy laundering service in my area.

Now I have no such thing, so what would you recommend as a started pack for a novice with no experience of boys bits

MarkStretch · 12/10/2008 16:03

I mean startER pack obviously...

swampster · 12/10/2008 16:23

For nappies, Totsbots Bamboozles and maybe Flexitots too cos they look lovely - neither were around back in the dark ages when DS1 was born but I had the bulkier cotton ones and they were my favourites.

For wraps, Motherease Rikki and/or Airflow and a Totsbots fleec one too for good measure.

Link on FB to bargain Bamboozles and Airflows. They are being discontinued, I think, because of Flexitots.

swampster · 12/10/2008 16:24

FLEECE

herbgarden · 12/10/2008 16:38

Drooling over last nights dinner MS - sounds gorgeous.
Oooh I feel like a posh dinner out now.

swampster · 12/10/2008 16:44

Tonight I will mostly be eating (rare) roast beef.

herbgarden · 12/10/2008 17:14

Mmm that sounds nice swampster - I love pink been

We've got my mum and dad here so I've done a chicken in red wine with shallots, bacon and fresh herbs casserole ( I suppose a good old 60's delia type coq au vin which I LOVE !!) -pots are on and we're having early dinner with ds.....

herbgarden · 12/10/2008 17:15

"been" ? "beef" me thinks

swampster · 12/10/2008 17:31

Just picked DS1 up from a party and DH is about to cover it in mustard powder stuff and sear/seal it on the griddle before popping it in the oven - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

MarkStretch · 12/10/2008 17:36

Roast chicken, roast potatoes, stuffing, steamed cabbage and peas, yorkshires, gravy....

I'll shut up now

mslucy · 12/10/2008 18:05

MS. You are the original domestic goddess.
Why can't you move to London so you can feed me?

Have just made DS sausages with jacket potato and cucumber and have prepared a tomato and black olive salad (with pine nuts) for us to eat with grilled halloumi and flat breads when DS is asleep (not long now).

We spent most of today on the Heath, which was glorious. DS played with his best friend, we ate a cheapo Tescos picnic and then we ponced round Hampstead a bit.
We are all very, very tired - apart from Stanley, who has just woken up and is thrashing around like a nutter (usual bag of snakes thing).

Looking forward to watching Buddha of Suburbia on DVD so I can perv over a young Naveen Andrews.

He was the only reason I ever watched Lost!!!

PinkTulips · 12/10/2008 19:13

just made a scrummy curry: coconut milk, lime, kaffir lime leaves, coriander, curry leaves, heaps of spices and chicken served with basmati rice and coriander naan bread. my boys love it, dp sulks if i make any other curry as he's obsessed with my one, lol. pity dd is a miserable little thing when it comes to good food. she only eats the rice

my mother called up today and told me i need to cheer up and my skin is terrible.... coz that would cheer me up obviously

dp was laughing at my bump last night, apparently it's had another growth spurt [sigh]

herbgarden · 12/10/2008 19:38

PT - charming conversation with your mum !!

My bump has also grown noticeably in the last 2 weeks. I am looking v pregnant. Must be a 22/23 week growth spurt (think you are week before me) .

Makes me laugh that today when my parents were here they won't let me even lift a tray. When business is as usual, I'm lugging alsorts around ....

mrsy · 12/10/2008 21:30

swampy - so had visions of you man rubbing mustard into your son! he he!

Had a bamboozling time at bluewater and bought not a thing (except a nutela covered pretzal - oh yes!) but we have chosen the monitor, if not actually purchased it!

Then went to the in-laws and had a bbq in the garden! and had their friends telling me I looked gaunt - I really don't. and then came home to watch the strictly results and eat custard!

MS - would have chosen exactly your meal! I was having pannacota cravings last week!

chilledmama · 12/10/2008 21:30

MarkStretch- I love the bamboozles buit my favourites are Bumbles...they are fleece lined so even in hard water area they stay soft against skin and they are truly birth to potty...I have tried several nappies now and they are lovely...as DS gets older the bamboozles suit him more but there size 2 were way too big until he was around a year old...skinny legs.
Would second comments on Motherease wraps, they are brill; I find the Riki are better when they are smaller...velcro very easy to undo when they hit a certain age!
Nappyholics anon

mrsy · 12/10/2008 21:30

'your man'...

mrsy · 12/10/2008 21:42

MS - the nappy lady website has an advice service - you fill in a form and it tells you which would suit you best, but it also helps if you can test one of each you like...

chilledmama · 12/10/2008 21:48

second www.thenappylady.co.uk

They actually recommended the bumbles for me but I also wanted to try a couple of others.
You can usually find people who do trial packs or you could try buying 1 or 2 of a couple of different types.

Real anppy Addicts have a nappy for every occassion

Another good website is the used nappy co which is a brilliant place to pick up cheap nappies!!

swampster · 12/10/2008 22:07

Oooooooh, I love those sites too, chilledmama.

MamaGoose · 12/10/2008 22:49

Evening all. Has anyone heard of/used ImseVimse washables? They are the only ones I can find here in Spain (where a pack of disposables that costs £8.96 in Superdrug costs 21euros at best!!!).

swampster · 12/10/2008 23:29

I had a couple of Imse Vimses without fastenings that were supposed to be pinned or nippa'd. Well, we didn't use pins and it was hard to get the nippas to grasp the cotton of them. You were supposed to be able to hold them together with no fastening using the wrap. But that didn't work for me. They were nice, but lived at the very bottom of the pile.

TinkerBellesMum · 12/10/2008 23:53

MamaGoose, we found that on Menorca (trial packs of wipes costing £5) we were convinced there must be some secret locals shop as the cost of living would be horrendous if the shops were anything to go by.

And Mum couldn't understand why I wanted to take real nappies!

KT1983 · 13/10/2008 08:59

Good Morning Ladies!
hope your all doing well today - I hate Mondays as much as the next person...but today Im feeling surprisingly upbeat! :-)

P.S - Is it really bad luck to have a pram in your house before the baby? The MIL bought us a great pram/travel system on saturday, but my other half was insistant we bought it back with us. Ive told him to fold it away and leave it in the cupboard!

dinkystinky · 13/10/2008 09:56

Morning all - lots of growing baby vibes being sent to MamaGoose, IDBI and TBM and big hugs to Lardybump . Hope the weekend was better Lardy - pregnancy can be such an emotionally fraught time for couples and I echo what other posts have said, saying nasty things is a way of lashing out when you feel guilt/pain you dont want to meet headon, so please try not to take what your partner said to heart hon, and counselling is a great way to work through issues (Relate have worked wonders for some friends of mine).

We had a lovely weekend in the sunshine - lots of trips to different playgrounds around london. Hope everyone else had a lovely one too.

KT - not bad luck to have it in the house (where else would you have it?)
