Morning All,

Sorry for all the bad nights sleeps... ME TOO!! Every night is an awful night in the Pink household.

Had my first antenatal class last night. Really enjoyed it, came away remembering one thing to do with breast feeding.. "angle of your dangle" apparently it's very important!??!?!!? Anyway, they used knitted boobs which incidentally I asked for the pattern adn suggested making it a challange to make one each for next week. Some people really don't have a sense of humour! Walked in and some couples looked miserable, in fact was quite amazed they managed to get pregnant. I had to tell DH not to ask any silly questions like where do babies come from.

Anyway, better get on with some work as I want the afternoon off. BYE x

MummyNic · 14/10/2008 10:16

Morning everyone. Thanks for the info on CTG - I'll see what the GP makes of it all this afternoon. I've got another one tomorrow morning - hopefully Cyril will be more lively and it'll be quicker than last week.

Obs hope you're feeling better soon, let us know how you get on at the GP.

Rosa · 14/10/2008 10:33

SOrry for those of you feeling a bit under the weather - hope that the sore throats and nasties clear up soon.
Terrible acid last night had to get up at 2 and take Maalox- and diddn't eat dinner either.
DH had to get up at 4am so hyjacked duvet and made lots of bump supports and slept well for 2 hrs - So dh is shortly to be evicted from marital bed into sharing with dd until grandma arrives!

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 11:02

Morning ladies,

Lacks, the only thing I can do when BH get really bad is to go for a lie-down - the walking it off thing doesn't work for me and in fact makes it SO much worse. Hugs.

Barb, sounds like perfectly normal panic to me! You can't give him FAS unless you drink really really heavily while pregnant for a long time, chick - we're talking serious alcoholism here, not a bit of cider. The government has admitted that the current booze guidelines of none at all are there so as to make it less confusing, not because there's much scientific basis for cutting out altogether. The French think we're mad to worry about meat, a few glasses of wine etc. You won't get toxoplasmosis unless you are very very very unlucky - have you ever had it before? I've never had listeria or salmonella either (although a scummy housemate at uni once gave me campylobacter but that's another story and has a lot to do with inadequate student kitchen hygiene). My main worry is that Baby Saurus will be born withdrawing from Haribo and have to go through cold turkey (or be born in the shape of a Tangfastic). And I'm also worried that I will be crap at labour but it's not a competition and if you have to have loads of intervention or and unplanned c-sec so what? It's your birth and no-one's going to tell you off for it. And if they do you can punch them in the face and blame the hormones. Huge big hugs. Plus, what Lacks said about talking to GP/HV as well as all of us.

Love to all who are feeling shitty - I for one know that people did tell me that it was going to be like this, I just didn't really believe them. Total respect to those doing it for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time - HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS? Crazy ladies, all.

Now then, I'm working from home today (1 day to go after this - whee!) so who's up for kicking my ass at Scrabble?

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 11:27

I am still having my ass thrashed by MonkeyM, I can take it tho!!

LOL at the miserable couples Pinkali, I have found that too!

Yes Ruthy I have asked DH why we are doing this again sometimes?!! Did we think it was too easy with one DC??!!

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 11:32

Ooh - I think I've invited you to Scrabble, Sparkle.

My DH was a bit of a show-off in ante-natal - he was like the kid who goes "me - pick me! I know" and kept putting his hand in the air when the midwife asked a question (it was sweet but a tiny bit embarassing, esp as hardly any of the other parents spoke at all). He was a bit keen.

Someone drunkenly told me the other day that it's easier with the second child - I refuse to believe that as at least I can take naps when I need to this first time round.

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 11:37

Obs, I missed your earlier post, hon - big hug and hope all goes well at the docs/hospital. Erm, re: thingy down there, I've got one of them as well and I got the doc to have a look. She said she thought it was a skin tag and if it's still there after the birth to get it checked out.

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 11:42

Ok will investigate Ruthy, need something to take mind off my friend's wee boy. He has just gone into theatre..

Am sure you will thrash me too tho, oh the shame! haha!

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 11:50

What's the little lad in for, Sparkle?

ChocOrange05 · 14/10/2008 11:52

Saurus are you my facebook friend?? If so invite me to play scrabble!

Oblomov · 14/10/2008 11:54

I have a Batholin cyst. Called that because it is near vagina. It is very infected. Big, red and sore, she said. That is why I feel so rotten. Been given penicillin based antibiotics.
Wee sent off for further tests to check no UTI again.
She mesured me. I am only 35 weeks. But now measuring 39. Becasue of amniotic fluid, I guess. She did say, it was a big bump. Like I said it is a beachball. I was shocked the other day when I measured 44 and all you others inc Dozy were measuring 42. Surely some of you are bigger than me- other than Merry !!!

But I am off to lunch with friends now. God I feel shit.

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 11:54

Lemme have a look - if not, I'll befriend you and we can get a game going.

You'll regret it, though - it'll be embarassing for you to win so easily...

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/10/2008 11:56

Sparkletoes, sending lots of good luck vibes to your friends little boy. I have a friend who's little boy is also in theatre (again) this morning, poor love. I can't imagine how stressed his mother must be (and this comes from me, who's child has been to theatre to have major surgery, that was bad enough!)

Anyway.....AHEM!! I AM ALLOWED TO HAVE A HOMEBIRTH!!!!

Sorry for the shouting, I am just so damned excited! The OB appt went well without much hanging around for a change. Now just have to call and leave a message for the midwife to tell her to bring my box around.

Sorry to hear others are feeling grotty too or are living in sicky households. I am pretty sure ds2 is going down with what ds1 had last week as well, so that only leaves dh. At least paracetomol has taken most of the pain of my throat away for a while.

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 11:58

Ooh - that sounds nasty, Obs. Don't think I've got one of those. Hope you cope with lunch okay, don't overdo it.

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/10/2008 12:03

Darn it! Missed your post Obs, sorry to hear about your cyst, it sounds incredibly painful. Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I am 37+6 today and the nurse today measured me as 43 weeks . Mind you, babe's head is pretty much floating free, only 1/5 engaged and moving up and down freely. Grrrr!

ChocOrange05 · 14/10/2008 12:08

Saurus looking forward to kicking your ass at Scrabble I like to keep my stats up!! Although if you are lying and are actually a scrabble-spert like Obs has become I will throw toys out of my new Quinny Buzz and never play you again!

misdee · 14/10/2008 12:10

sorry to hear about everyone having bad nights/stressed/feeling rough etc etc.

more leg cramps last night, they are driving me mad now.

anyhoo, just dragged dh to tesco to buy baby bits. had an arrrrgh moment when i got to the changing mats. choice of pink or blue. [sighs] i got a blue one. i refused to buy a pink one.

so now i have everything.

i am sure when dd1 was born there wasnt a choice of 100 different soothers and teats though. i got some tommee tippee soothers, and good old cherry soothers. just in case baby is very sucky. i know dd1 preferred the big cherry ones, but dd3 liked the smaller flatter ones.

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 12:16

Congenital heart problem, valve needs sorting it must be so stressful for them...

Get well vibes to Obs too, hope it clears up soon.

Yay for the homebirth heartmum.

Haha Choco, your stats are safe with me!

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 12:27

Aw, poor little thing. Best of luck to him and his parents.

HM2J - Yay! That's great news!

Betti · 14/10/2008 12:30

Morning ladies

Just received my TeNS machine in the post and it came with a 10% off voucher for friends so if anyone still has to arrange TeNS hire, take a look at www.tens.co.uk and enter TEN at checkout.

Feeling a bit 'strange' today. Baby is very low and prodding my bladder bigtime. Feel like it could just fall out ! Had lots of strong BH. Don't think this is it though. I'm only 37 weeks and MW told me third time round you have lots of false starts.

Got results of Group B Strep test yesterday and it's positive which means I won't be allowed to give birth in the birthing centre. I will have to go into hospital as soon as labour starts and probably stay in for 48hrs after so the baby can be monitored. Feel a bit disappointed especially as I didn't want to be away from DCs for that long but I have to put the health of the baby first.

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/10/2008 12:42

Sparkletoes, sending all my love & best wishes to your friend and her ds. My ds2 had surgery for a congenital heart defect as well and it IS stressful, but it somehow helps to know people are thinking of you and your little one, even if you have never met. Plus, kids are amazingly resiliant and seem to just boucne straight back. Even with a small hiccup in ICU, my ds2 was home 6 days post op. Amazing!

Misdee, I am starting to get more leg cramps now, not nice. I know what you mean about teats and soothers. I was pretty shocked at the lack of selection too. DS1 was very sucky, ds2 never took to a dummy or his thumb.

Betti, sorry to hear you feel strange. Trust me, it's not just you. I felt well strange last night, back ache, more looose BM ect, but I figured it was going to be a case of false starts. I am also sorry to hear about the GBS, but like you say, you have to do what is best for baby. HUGS

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 12:52

That is good to know Heartmum, thanks. I simply cannot imagine what they are going through right now. Am having to stay busy myself to stop me from getting upset in front of DS. At least I have that luxury...

BTW sore hip ladies, I have been using and adapting Rosa's tip nightly.. now use v pillow and cushion at back and wrap duvet under self and it seems to work!! Keep waking up wondering why hips are NOT sore now!!

Afternoon

Obs...sounds ouchy. I hope the ABs do the trick and clear it up.

lol at haribo withdrawals....virgil will be suffering malteser withdrawals.

both of my DCs have been pickled at some point in my pregnancies; DS in the beginning when I was in denial about an unplanned pregnancy wiht no hope of reconciliation with his dad and on champers at the office christmas party when i was about 16 weeks and DD when i was drinking what I thought was a soft drink but was actually alcopops at my sister's at New Year ...they are both bright wee sparks so try not to worry. The FAS thing is relly only an issue if you drink more than 14 units a week regularly.

sorry for all the poorliness and sleepless nights.

I am going to buck the trend by saying that I had a pretty good night last night

But before we get too excited, it was only a three hour stretch followed by a two hour stretch, so not sleep by any real sense of the word. Anyway, after all the pillow talk yesterday, I mad myself a wee nest, with two pillows supporting my back and stopping me from rolling over (I usually wake up on my back with pins and needles everywhere), one wedged under bump at the front and then the bottom of it between my knees, and my v-pillow at the head end, so my shoulder was tucked into the V. Not sure if that's what did the trick, but like Rosa, DH is going to find himself temporarily bedless, bless him!

I have also been back to bed for two and half hours this morning and still feel like I could sleep more.

DH has relented and is happy to go with my choice of name ....unless he really does look like a Virgil and then that'll stick, or a Leo, or a Frank, or Colin.

Does anyone know whether I can claim back unused childcare vouchers? Checked my account at the weekend and there is over £400 in there ...that is just sitting there not being used or gaining interest or doing anything really......and I can see a Phil and Teds pram with my baby's name on it! I thought you could get them back, but obviously have to pay the tax and NI on it, but the wording on Accor's website seems to suggest otherwise.

ruthosaurus · 14/10/2008 13:28

Lacks, you do make me giggle. Plus, give me that pillow back, the case needs washing. Yay on names - my DH too has finally given in agreed to Finlay! Result. It will now be a girl, of course.

You and hana, though, with all the sleep. How? Did you just not drink anything at all yesterday?

Hana, yes that's normal, hope the BHs carry on being painless as mine have started being annoyingly painful. Btw, how many boobs have you knitted now?

Thread titles, hmm.

Due November 2008 - hang on a minute, that's NEXT MONTH! Yikes!
