Thanks lacks
nasty dark thoughts!
We are all going to be fine, are we not!?

MummyNic · 13/10/2008 21:33

CardioTachoGraph or something like that. Basically monitoring the baby's heart - same equipment they use in labour - belt thing around belly with a sensor to find baby's heart beat, a second monitor to measure contractions (!). A read-out comes from the machine and looks just like an ECG. I had to press a button everytime he moved and they need him to move (no idea why and I'm kicking myself for not asking). According to the read-out I had 7 contractions in the 46 minutes it took to pass (?) the test!!!

barbareebaa · 13/10/2008 21:37

Ah - I think I had one of those after I fell over. Are you having them as a matter of course or is it for something specific (nosy bint that I am... )

Pinkyminkee · 13/10/2008 21:41

barbs it's normal. When I was PG the first time I had loads of nightmares that I would drop DS, get everything wrong. I've had some wobbles this time, and it's my third!

TBH I think it would be a bit odd if a person didn't get some anxiety at some point about becomming a mum.

MummyNic · 13/10/2008 21:42

'Routine' apparently, but nothing has happended (that I'm aware of) to warrant it. I do suffer from high blood pressure though - it's under control with tablets and I already had it. But it's really behaved itself since becoming pregnant - I've had 2 growth scans due to the medication I take and am having another one next week.

What I'd really like to know is what the result of 4.5 means!!!

Don't worry, I'm nosy too!!

LackaDAISYcal · 13/10/2008 21:49

mummynic, I'm sure there is an expanation of the CTG trace in Lesley Regan's Pregnancy Week by Week. I'll have a look if you don't have it.

lol at your DH though; mine has decided that I'll get my natural birth, and that although it will start well, something will happen to get us all in a panic, but that it'll all come good in the end........very reassuring of him I must say . I might have to "accidentally" get him with the tens machine at full pitch

misdee · 13/10/2008 21:51

peter is still convinced i'll cough and this one will just slip out. lol.

i think not!

MummyNic · 13/10/2008 21:53

I don't have that one Lacks so would appreciate an explanation of what 4.5 means.

DH has just said 'come on, get this baby out' to me - not just yet my dear, I need to wash the stuff I bought today!!!

Hmm, yes, I need to get a Tens sorted tomorrow - thank you for reminding me!!!

MummyNic · 13/10/2008 21:53

Lol at misdee's DH - he's dreaming!!!

misdee · 13/10/2008 21:55

well mummynic, the midwife last time did say i made it look v v easy.

i asked peter if i did all the screaming etc etc that gets protrayed on tv. he said i sort of went 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeem' as i pushed but quietly.

barbareebaa · 13/10/2008 21:57

glad to hear your blood pressure has been fine mummyNic It must be reassuring that they are keeping a close eye on you. I must say when I was monitored that time it was really lovely to spend a while listening to his heartbeat. I don't know what 4.5 means though!!!
Hope all goes well tomorrow

pinkminkee am sorry but reassured that everyone is having wobbles (if that makes sense ) looking on the pma side of things I guess it's part of what makes being a mum so rewarding - it is scary but fabulous (I'm hoping...)

barbareebaa · 13/10/2008 21:59

Gah - sorry - too slow at writing posts - quiiiiiickkk!!!!

MummyNic · 13/10/2008 22:05

barbareebaa - it is nice to hear the heartbeat for a decent length of time. I'll ask the GP tomorrow, you never know if they'll know or not - I'm sure if it was bad I wouldn't be sitting here now!! I'll take comfort from that.

misdee - gosh, sounds like you had good one last time - fingers crossed it happens again.

Bed time for me ladies, nighty night.

Pinkyminkee · 13/10/2008 22:17

mummynic from what I can find, a 4.5 sounds fine, normal healthy baby not the best link but here, if any help.

BARBS absolutely, no need to say sorry,

vbab78 · 13/10/2008 22:25

barbs - I have had bad feelings like you I think it is normal to worry it's called be a parent.

RE drinking ... I had my 30th birthday do the week before I found out I was pregnant and I had drank a lot of wine due to celebration but also "down" about my miscarriage a couple of months before. I did worry when I first found out I was pregnant waiting for something to go wrong due to the drink and previous circumstance. But now think whatever will be will be. Getting stressed about "potential" probs could just cause probs.

DS - Went to bed at 7pm after asking me for cuddles on our bed watching Cbeebies (living room still out of order). Normally bedtime between 7.30-8pm.

ME - Been feeling really poorly today getting worse as the day has gone on. Been convinced I am getting cold or even worse DH tonsilitis. But seem to have picked up this eve.

LackaDAISYcal · 13/10/2008 22:34

I've had a look at that book mummynic, but it isn't that specific and just shows the difference between good variability and poor variability in the feotal heartbeat.

hopefully your GP will be able to help tomorrow.

Dozymare · 14/10/2008 02:42

and for those of you worryong mummynic and barbaree I too am on my 3rd DC and 3rd CS in 5 years - am absolutely terrifed that something will happen to me or the baby during the op, as let's face it, it is major abdominal surgery. I am also worrying that that like lacks how can I have a 3rd perfect DC and that something is going to be wrong with the baby during or after delivery. However, it is out of our hands so we need to accept that we can't change anything now apart from be as prepared as possible. My major worry though is 3rd CS.....feeling a bit sleepy now

Oblomov · 14/10/2008 08:10

Morning.
I don't feel very well. Am off to GP after dropping ds at school.
Have rung diabetic nurse at Kings. Not very happy because faxed over blood sugars on thurs and rang yesterday and no response. Haven't seen or heard anything since saw Prof in clinic on tues. So thats a week. Not real CARE, I don't think.
I feel ill. I think I have a UTI again. Feels wierd. Plus, I have a big lump. Down below. Size of my index finger. Not in my labia. At the side. My mum says it is just a cyst, but it is painful and cysts shouldn't be. See what Gp says. Just feel rotten.

I'll let you know whats going on, as soon as I know.

LadyBuzz · 14/10/2008 08:24

Good Luck Obs hope it turns out to be nothing.

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 09:01

Poor you Obs, hope you are ok...

I also got the PG insomnia Dozy grr it is soo annoying, I wake up starving at 3/4am and can't get back to sleep, try to eat something then finally go back to sleep.... just as DS gets up!

Sorry MonkeyM didn't get to finish our game last night as DS woke up screaming, had temp and was sick. He had a touch of the runs yest afternoon but seemed fine. No toddlers for us today but he seems a lot brighter. Thank god for Calpol and it's temp lowering ability! We are watching Madagascar just now, again... "what is a simple bite on the buttocks amongst friends??"

Also re: drinking, I went to my friend's hen weekend in March and had champagne, seafood, more champagne... would have been PG at time too...

Finally congrats on finalising your mat leave Ruthy, can say it was best thing I have done to bring mine forward!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/10/2008 09:20

Sorry you aren't feeling well Obs, I hope it turns out to be nothing.

I feel for those not sleeping well. I normally do ok but last night was pretty pitiful, even by my standards. My throat is really sore, I feel a bit snuffly plus my appt with the OB was obviously playing on my mind. I will be leaving soon and am hoping I won't have to be forceful to stand my ground about a homebirth.

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 09:31

Good luck with OB Heartmum, my DH has sore throat and cold so am hoping he doesn't pass it on...

..and DS with tummy bug, think we got the sick house today!

Lucky it is nothing serious of course, haven't heard from my friend yet about her DS. Hope he is out of ICU.

sparkletoes · 14/10/2008 09:47

Gonna need a new thread soon girls... thinking caps on!
