M2b...try not to panic as there is still time for the baby to turn....try the spinning babies website for some ideas.

And as for a CS, depending on which is the presenting part of the baby, there is still the option of a vaginal delivery. CS isn't a given at this stage.

Try strating a thread on breach babies and modes of delivery and I'm sure you'll get lots of replies, calming thoughts and advice

DD turned at about 38 weeks and no-one had picked up on her being breech before then. MW kept telling me she was head down

LadyBuzz · 08/10/2008 18:38

Mum2becks my baby is transverse at the moment so if it stays put a CS is my only option - I had one last time though.
I am due at the ECV clinic next week at 37 weeks and they will maybe offer to try and turn the baby but after alot of research I have decided against it - the main reasons for me being they don't recommend it after a previous CS, it isn't as easy or sucessful for a transverse baby then a breech one and my hospital doesn't have a very high sucess rate, its well below the national average.
Try this link (If it works) and your hospital should be there with all of its ECV stats, there are also loads of archive threads about ECV experiences, some good some bad.

mum2becks · 08/10/2008 20:19

Thanks for the website suggestions, going to try some of the 'spinning babies' suggestions and see if I can get this little one to turn!!

ladybuzz have looked at the site for the hospital i'm going to, can find a lot of statistics but cant find the ECV ones?

sparkletoes · 08/10/2008 20:26

Mum2becks PLEASE just wait til you get your scan before you start thinking about this. I was told in no uncertain terms that my baby was breech about 2-3 weeks ago. It was all bollocks, MW was wrong, baby is head down as confirmed by scan.

Caused me a whole lot of worry/stress over nothing so wouldn't want you to go thru same. Wait til scan, if it deffo is breech then you can look at options but could all be pointless before.

Pinkyminkee · 08/10/2008 20:36

mum2becks I can concur with sparkletoes. Except it was the complete opposite....

My friend went to 10cm dilated and ready to puush before the MW realised they had been pressing their fingers on baby's bum not his fontanelle!

I would wait until you get a scan and see the real situation in black and white. Many mw are verry skilled but they do not always get this right.

cricri · 08/10/2008 20:52

Just catching up with the thread - I've been very busy with work the past couple of days (Pinkali I sympathise - I'm self-employed as well) although I have managed to fit in a couple of lunches with a friend yesterday and my NCT group today. Only 3 of us though - one had her baby by CS on Monday and another is waiting to pop so doesn't want to leave the house!
MonkeyMargot Have accepted your friend request so we can start playing Scrabble now Hope your MW comes round soon for your HB appt. My pool arrived on Monday so very excited about that. Waiting for paperwork from MW now and baby can come any time from Saturday when I'll be full term too (still can't believe it!)
Rutho Sorry about the DIY not getting done - must be very frustrating. Hopefully DH and family can get lots done this weekend.
Mum2becks Sorry to hear about your news about baby's position. Everything will be clearer once you have the scan so try not to worry in the meantime (easier said than done I know...)
Missygoo Hope you're OK after your frightening experience with the bleed and hospital stay - didn't get chance to post yesterday in response to your posts.
Hi to everybody else

Betti · 08/10/2008 21:16

My God, it's nice to be back over here. Posted on names board yesterday and feel like I've been thrown into a lions den!! Actually felt scared to reply to any of the posts left for me. Think I'll stay where it's warm and friendly !!!

vbab - I had this leuc +++ when I saw the MW today as well as having it last time. They sent my urine off for testing. Last time it came back negative for urine infection...probably will this time too as I have no other symptoms. MW said sometimes it can be caused by a bit of discharge contaminating sample (sorry TMI!). Don't worry too much.

mum2becks - my DS was breech and I had a successful ECV at 38 weeks. They did warn me that it could be a painful, long procedure and to be prepared for a CS if baby became distressed but in the end it was all over within a couple of mins and didn't hurt at all. Personally I wanted to try the ECV rather than wait and hope that he turned and then risk a CS.

ceebee74 · 08/10/2008 21:17

mum2becks I know it is easier said than done but try not to worry about the baby being breech until after the scan - Sparkle is evidence that they can get it wrong. Also, I know exactly how you feel about being away from your DD as I have never spent a night away from DS but surely even if you do manage to have a normal birth, there is a chance you will be away for at least one night? Plus the MW told me that they only keep you in for 2 nights after a CS assuming everything is ok.

monkey lol at the Chelsea dummies - they are cute though! Even worse, there is a Chelsea toaster which marks the toast with CFC when toasting it - fab eh??

vbab78 · 08/10/2008 21:21

mum2becks - Thoughts are with you but please try to not stress too much before a scan.

To be honest my MW says baby is back to back when I make the effort to ask her the position but how she tells me makes me think she isnt really sure herself! DS unknown at 1st to the MW was also back to back. Although with DS I didnt find out he was back to back until they rushed us off to theatre and they turned him using the ventouse then delivered him using forceps.

DS saga - He fell asleep eventually after 50mins of screaming tonight at the top of the stairs . After I went up half way through this "fit" he then started shouting "mummy" as well as "daddy". After another 20 mins I went to DS and told him firmly but not nasty "this is naughty, it is bedtime and mummy doesnt like naughty boys" while carrying him to bed. When I moved slightly to put him down in bed I felt him tighthen on me so I said my little speech again and said "where is that big boy bed? big boy bed now." he went down no trouble?

Do you ladies think he went down because of something I did or said or do you reckon he was exhausted and just done fighting?

Had such a fantasic day with him and DH did all the routine and nice stuff with him so thought it would be ok. We were so wrong.

Just now feel so exhausted mainly due to how emotional the situation is. Honestly if this is all still going on when I go into labour I wont have the strength to get the baby out of me. Part of me wishes (bad I know) someone would say you have a CS booked. Just to make things easier. This is coming from someone who has always preferred the natural option and is a little scared about having a CS and dealing with it after.

mum2becks · 08/10/2008 21:30

I am trying to stay calm until I know for sure on friday but it is easier said than done!!

I have a feeling that she is right though as the top of my bump is very hard and round which she says feels like the head not its bottom! I also measured 39 today and up until this appt was measuring spot on which she says is also a sign, then the heartbeat was very high up not low like it would be if it was head down!!

Will update you all on friday after my hospital appt, fingers crossed everything I try between now and then will turn it!

Still got to catch up on everyones news, so sorry if missed loads, hope everyone is ok

betti good to hear you have actually had an ECV and it worked, I have been looking at quite varied comments on it!!

ceebee I know I would probably be away from DD at least 1 night even with a natural birth but hope that would just be gone overnight, where as with a CS it would feel so much longer, I know I am probably being silly and she will be fine but I wont be

Pinkyminkee · 08/10/2008 21:40

Vbab Much sympathy...
Both my children are being a bit of a pain at bedtime at the mo. DD shouts and yells at me as I go out the door. I have had to drop her nap to get her to go to sleep in the evening, so not such great news with baby no.3 on the way!
DS is messing about getting up in the night a lot, but mainly because he has a cold.

I think you are doing the right thing, personally, I try to be firm but not get cross and keep things calm- easier said than done-it's very difficult when you are heavily pg and shattered.

barbareebaa · 08/10/2008 21:50

Hello everyone!

mum2becks looks like we are in the same position (or our babies are) Found out today that my boy is breech (or the mw thinks...) No surprise - he's never been any other way! So have been given similar options - scan and ECV then caesarian at 38 weeks if not turned.
Have already decided not to have the ECV so looks like a caesarian if he doesn't turn.
My thinking is as long as he is fine I don't mind how he appears!! And there's still time - he might do it all by himself!!
Hope you're o.k. x

LackaDAISYcal · 08/10/2008 22:26

{{{{hugs}}}} vbab. It is soo hard when they just aren't playing the game isn't it. Calm and consistent is the best approach and it sounds like you kept your cool this evening. fingers crossed this is the turning point for him.

DD has been pretty poorly this evening with her botty problems. I've had to get her up to change a squitty bottom twice now and she has hardly eaten anything at all today. We gave her milk at bedtime, but I'm thinking that this maybe wasn't the best idea . Poor DD

I think it's a bug as I've been ropey all day as well, but it could be being compounded by her teeth.

We had just got rid of the chronic nappy rash as well and her bum had been clear for the first time in a year

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 08/10/2008 22:27

and vbab, being knackered and worried and heavily pregnant probably isn't helping you in your dealings with DS either........I have had a few moments recently as well, but felt so much calmer today because I had a decent stretch of sleep last night.

OP posts:
mum2becks · 09/10/2008 06:59

Morning everyone! well I have had a decent nights sllep so am feeling a bit better about things this morning and am going to wait and see what tomorrow brings!!

vbab sorry to hear your DS is still having problems settling at bedtime, I know how you feel as had similar problems with DD when we first moved her to a bed. She will now go to bed ok but is still waking in the night most nights and i'm up and down several times some nights! and its so hard not to get stressed about it, but you sound like you are dealing with it really well I do think that they sense all the changes happening at this age and it must unsettle them!

daisy sorry to hear about your daughter, hope she is better today and hope you dont catch it if it is a bug

barbareebaa yes it sounds like our babies are in the same position! little monkeys can I ask why you have decided against the ECV? I have been reading about it and dont think I will want it but like to hear opinions on the procedure!!

Hope everyone is feeling ok this morning and haave had some sleep!!!

Oblomov · 09/10/2008 08:20

Calming thoughts to Mum2becks, Vbab and Ruthosaurus. Goodness, we do need calm, don't we.
I feel like I am on fire and could conquer the world. Can't remember feeling this good. Very wierd.

LadyBuzz · 09/10/2008 08:33

obs thats great news make the most of it!
Lacks hope DD is better today
I too have had quite a good nights sleep - one advantage of baby bing at the top is no needing to wee 5 times a night
I am planning o doing nothing much today, I might do a little light dusting and wash the dishes, I feel like I have all the time in the world now - well 4 weeks anyway!

Pinkyminkee · 09/10/2008 09:20

Glad you are feeling fabby, oblomov lacks is DD any better this morning?

DD'S 2nd Birthday today.. can't believe she is soo grown up!![smile}

Feeling a bit low, myself, at the moment. I know I bang on a bit about my parents, but they are really getting me down at the mo. What my mum said yesterday really hurt me. She was also going ooon again about how DD is small because I didn't eat properly when I was pg (due to hyperemseis) I know it's crap but it still hurts. I had a nagging feeling all the way through that I was harming my baby because I had to take pills in order to eat even though the doctors tell you it's ok it doesn't stop you feeling bad, does it? I dunno. maybe it's just hormones.

Sorry I am such a self-pitying bore.

Oblomov · 09/10/2008 09:26

Pinky, we all have every sympathy. As others have said before, your mum needs a good ..... ????? slap
I don't think you are self pitying. I think you have every right to be hurt.

Daisy, how is dd?

I went to lunch with one of my work colleagues yesterday. Oh it was fab.
Today I am at home, ironing and hoovering. I tell you... the life I lead....

coolkat · 09/10/2008 09:29

Morning

Go Obs, you can lead on the PMA for all of us today then

Vbab sorry to hear about troubles with DS, being heavily pregnant is probably making it all feel worse as well. Sounds like you are handling him well though.

M2B sorry to hear about positioning of the baby. Try to relax today and see what the scan brings tomorrow, I am looking forward to my MW appointment next thurs as she did not seem convinced about this ones position, just said there was limbs everywhere maybe I should be scrubbing floors with bum in the air?!

Well terrible nights sleep as DH alerter went off 3 times and each time I was awake when he got home. Thing is he is still in bed I have got up sorted DD and done the school run and am feeling a little pi**ed off

On a good note my SPD seems to be going through a good patch and went into town on tuedays for the first time in ages. I want some new boots I have seen in the Next book so may venture out today with DH when he arises. .

Anyone else really really sick of their maternity wear yet? I am, long to wear some of my normal clothes but no hope of fitting in most any of them!!

coolkat · 09/10/2008 09:33

Cross posts pinky X

Sorry you are feeling low, nothing quite so strange as family, you know from my previous posts I have issues with mine and I try and shut off from it all as much as possible. [hugs] though as its horrible when all you want is support from family.

Oh and update is apparently sister still planning wedding for Nov 29th!

Heartmum2Jamie · 09/10/2008 09:33

Oblamov, I am glad you are feeling so good. Me too! I feel much better at this point than I did the other 2 times, so am making the most of it!

Pinky, happy birthday to your DD! 2 already, ah bless! I actually loved the 2's (mind you, ds2 didn't hit the terrible 2's until recently, lol!). As for your Mother, I honestly have no words that would not get me banned .

I am still in the midst of a whole house deep clean, I just want it done so I can try and relax. Easier said than done with 2 mini tornado's in the house. Oh, and ds1 is being even less independant than normal as he's got a cough/cold bug. Miraculously, ds2 has managed to avoid it so far and I really hope he doesn't get it or I am looking at at least a month (that's how low his immune system is) of mardiness. Or I will get it, cough and baby will pop out, lol!

Right, today it is the bathroom, changing the bedclothes and finding some clever way of getting the eleccy blanket back on the bed without fear of my water breaking and frying myself. Believe it or not, I don't want it warm when I get into bed, I want to be able to put it on low for those mornings I wake up and my back is sore, lol! I also need to find homes for all the coats I took off the coatrack yesterday. I couldn't move for coats, lol!

Oblomov · 09/10/2008 09:37

Coolkat, how quickly did you slip back into normal clothes last time then ?
I was in maternity wear for ages. Because it was so comfy. Even though I lost alot of my pg weight very quickly due to bf, I still was very comfortable in my mat clothes. And nowhere near normal clothes for AGES.

And I am not having ANY competiveness on this or the PN thread, re people getting back into ordinary clothes. Anyone leaves hospital in their old skinny jeans..... they are immediately OUTED
