summerbird · 27/09/2008 15:37

Hi there

Did the test last night even though DH wanted me to wait a few days. I wanted to just do it to see if i could have a glass of wine or not and hoo-bloody-rah after 6 months of TTC number one i got a BFP on the free ClearBlue digital test!

So need to get a GP appointment but reckon i am due on 5 June 2009.

Anyone want to join me?

Hi all,

I'm feeling tired & anxious today Spoke to a friend earlier who told me she had a miscarriage the day before her 12 week scan. She started bleeding then went for the scan & the baby had died at 9.5wks.Sorry don't want to worry you all.Think I overdid it today thou with my 2.5yr old & feeling slight cramps but just worrying cos of what my friend said.I know it's all probably fine, just a reminder to me that we must take it easy. It's so easy to carry on the same but being a mum already is a physically demanding job,esp with my DS2 who had about 4 big tantrums today

Anyway on a more positive note, good to see lots of others getting BFP'S.Congrats to you all.

I went to see the dr today to make it all official but didn't really need to.She was very nice thou & told me to make a booking in appt with the midwife around 8-9 wks.I was told that would be an hour appt.Think they take bloods etc.

Roll on the next few weeks

leaky · 07/10/2008 20:43

helpivegottogivebirth the pains you are feeling are very normal.Apparently our body is preparing itself already & expanding down there I think

Jools1 · 07/10/2008 21:08

My nausea has gone up a gear tonight - sick bucket by the bed I think - bleurghhhh - but strangely happy

summerbird · 07/10/2008 21:52

welcome all the new BFPs!!

i am starting to worry that i am not having any real symptoms, other than the tiredness and sensitive nipples! one of the girls on another thread i am on has just miscarried and said that she didnt get any real symptoms. i know i am worrying probably unecessarly...

need to go and sleep on the paranoia now - good night!!

helpivegottogivebirth · 07/10/2008 21:56

My only real symptoms have been:
really sore (and growing) boobs (though it sometimes happens like that in the middle of the month anyway)
2 really big zits on my face
cramping down below, like i'm about to get my period.
Oh and no period.

I haven't actually felt really tired or anything yet, which i'm suprised about as i'm normally the first to catch some zzzz's.

helpivegottogivebirth · 07/10/2008 21:57

i meant to finish tht with - we'll be fine!
good night

MrsMcJnr · 07/10/2008 22:19

Hey ladies second bout of nausea hit me yesterday when I was on a swing with DS ? ughhh! Apart from that, the tiredness and the cheese craving I don?t feel much different.

Jools1 ? glad to hear that you are feeling a bit more positive and that your family were so pleased

Bigcar - ..and here?s me hoping that the weight will just fall off when I have 2 under 2 to look after..

Congrats Mum2becks

Summerbird ? oh, I?d forgotten about the pregnancy rages! the lack of med attention in the beginning is a bit disconcerting isn?t it? Best to get the exemption as it covers dental stuff too. Mine from DS is still running but it doesn?t do me much good here in Spain.

Myneaux ? I found last time that the bloating always got worse at night. Inflating boobs is one of the first signs of pg for me, happens almost immediately ? and I?d just got back into my usual bras too! hope the booking in goes well. I was 34 when I had my first baby earlier this year (God that sounds bad!)

Fabby Travellinglight!! Congrats!! There are many of us still at the fragile stage so we can keep each other company

Llynnnn ? glad the appointment went well

Gems27 ? congrats on your BFP I know any blood is scary in pregnancy but generally the brown stuff is fine.

Leaky ? I?m with you, not suffering too much in the boob dept unless they get squashed. At least the day 3 engorgement after the birth doesn?t last long and they look fab!! (apart from the veins!) That said all the memories of DS sleeping through a feed and me lying awake in agony (and soaking wet) are coming back!! MC is a sad fact, we lost our first (anniversary of what would have been her EDD today actually ) at 13 weeks, it was very hard and made my last pg stressful but I am determined to enjoy this one more.

Notsorampant ? well done hon!!

Tess ? the sense of smell is a killer isn?t it?

Boundoriginals - I always seem to get sik in the beginning, sure you?ll be fine

Congrats onehitwonder ? totally agree that it is so lovely to talk about it before the RL people know!

Congrats Nickel

Any predictions on what you might be having yet and any names in mind?

Myneaux · 08/10/2008 09:07

Morning everyone

Thought Id give you an update on the midwife appt....it was a bit of a fiasco !

When I saw the doctor last week she told me to make a booking appt with the midwife where she would do the blood tests etc. When I got to the reception they told me to see the midwife asap eventhough id only be six weeks pg.

So saw the midwife yesterday and the first thing she said was that I had to make a booking appt in 2 weeks time.....when I said that what Im here for...she said that they dont do them before 8 weeks and this was just an appt to give me all the forms to complete.

What a complete waste of time! Ive now had 2 doctors appt's in work time and another one booked for 16th October. Why didnt they just give me the paperwork last time and tell me to book in at 8 week pg.

Gosh...isnt it reassuring to think that the NHS know what they are doing !

AND i had to wee in a bottle for no reason !

The only thing she did do was give me an ever expanding list of food I cant eat. Did you ladies know you arent supposed to eat anything that has been pre-prepared (ie no bought sandwiches, take aways etc) or anything thats been re-heated ?(which meant my roast chicken risotto got shelved last night).

She did say fish and chips and pizza were good as they were cooked at very high temperatures and were made fresh...but she actually said that if you get caught out with no food you are better buying a Mars bar or a banana rather than a sandwich !

summerbird · 08/10/2008 09:10

blimey Myneaux i have had two takeaways since i found out i was PG, which is annoying given that i got next to no info from my GP. i think i will just be v careful with what i have.

i take it all back about my lack of symptoms, i felt v nauseous this morning when i got up, felt better after my cereal brekkie but am feeling wibbly again now!

am quite relieved i have a symptom!

OP posts:
Jools1 · 08/10/2008 09:15

What a fiasco indeed Myneaux

that food list sounds very draconian - my GP printed me out an NHS leaflet that said takeaways were OK in moderation and never mentioned pre-packed sandwiches ! I must admit, I've been quite good at taking my own lunch to work recently but sometimes get so hungry and dizzy on the way home that I have to stop off in M&S and buy a sandwich - I avoid prawns and salmon but have happily been munching on other shop prepared sandwiches.

bigcar · 08/10/2008 09:32

Morning all!

Blimey myneaux, that list of things we are not supposed to eat gets longer all the time. It wasn't that long ago we would have been told to eat liver and drink stout, they are definitely on the don't touch list now! Funny how things change. It's a real pain being messed around with appointments, especially when you work. When I had dd2 my old boss was so not understanding, he used to moan every time I had a antenatal appointment, despite it being a requirement that he let me go.

I've been feeling really sick most of the time for the last couple of days, haven't actually been sick but don't think it's that far off.

Who mentioned sore, leaky boobs? I think I was trying to forget that was on the cards again waking up in a pool of milk, oh the joys of breast feeding! And then of course there's the sicking it all back after a feed, oh yes happy days I'm finding myself strangely looking forward to doing all that again.

Myneaux · 08/10/2008 09:38

I think the food situation is way more depressing than the lack of booze and believe me I like a drink!

Have actually started to feel a bit queasy in the morning now so making my own sandwiches at 7am isnt much fun !

I suppose the midwife was just being extremely cautious...I want to be sensible but at the same time you have to try and live a normal(ish) life.

I was also told that I wasnt getting enough calcium. I dont like milk so drink my coffee and tea black and always have toast in the morning. Apparently you should ideally have a pint of milk (or equivalent) a day and having a bit of cheese in a sandwich isnt enough. So I am now eating lots of yoghurt and Dairy Milk chocolate (was recommended by the midwife....so I am now eating chocolate for 'medical reasons'...how cool is that !!

VickyJane77 · 08/10/2008 10:05

Dairy Milk chocolate??? Fab, I'm going to try that!

Jools1 · 08/10/2008 10:08

My sheet from the GP at home says there is caffeine in chocolate so you shouldn't have too much, especially if you still have the odd cup of coffee ...

I'll dig out the facts from the sheet when I get home tonight - quite fancy choc for medical reasons though !

NotSoRampantRabbit · 08/10/2008 10:18

The shock has worn off at last and although I am still a bit stunned I am feeling happy and excited (if a little terrified).

Went for a pre-planned clothes shopping mission yesterday which was nowhere near as much fun as I had hoped - no skinny jeans for me, just a comodious cardigan and some pyjamas!

Onehitwonder - my DS was a June 05 baby too (although wasn't much of a poster in those days). How are you feeling about the age gap? And the fact that they will have such close birthdays? My birthday is June too, as is our wedding anniversary. June is ridiculously busy and expensive! I haven't told DS yet. He is most keen on the brother/sister thing and has a memory like an elephant. It would be too awful to tell him and then it not work out, so am going to hold on for a while.

It's strange this time round - not the same unfettered joy of 4 years ago. I have friends with fertility problems, and a sister who is desperate for babies but has just split up with her boyfriend. Am being much more circumspect and low key.

Worst bit of shopping yesterday - the petrol fumes (gag, barf, ugh, and gag).

helpivegottogivebirth · 08/10/2008 10:29

just been to the doc for a prescription and told him i was preggers. He didn't tll me anything about diet/alcohol/fags - does that mean i can still drink with impunity?

But he did ask where I would like to give birth - ie a choice of four hospitals. I didn't realise i'd have a choice. am now confused as how am i supposed to know where to go?!

What factors would you look for, apart from distance for a 3 am run and g&a supplies?

Jools1 · 08/10/2008 10:46

You could do a search on MN for documented experiences of those hospitals ? I started a thread and asked for advice from people who had experienced the hosptial I was considering

I went for the nearest in the end - DP doesn't drive, so it may well be a taxi, so that will keep the costs down !

I'm pretty sure I'll have to stop driving once bump gets going - I'm only 5ft 2 and have short legs, so bump is going to be bumping the steering wheel !

LittleSarah · 08/10/2008 10:52

I'm going to have a home birth (again) but I would just pick the closest one, but I don't really know about such things!

Congratulations to all newcomers!

Summerbird - I have very few symptoms too. Also, I miscarried in July and I had loads of symptoms then. But I don't think having few or loads of symptoms can tell you one way or the other, it's different everytime. I've been anxious about no symptoms too, despite the miscarriage... I had few with dd five years ago and I figured the reason I had more with the July pregnancy was because I'm older so I should have more with this one too... and so far, I don't. Rambling majorly, basically it doesn't mean anything!

I got my prescription thingy too, but who do you send it to??

Myneaux - the doctors in the early months can be annoying eh? I told me GP on Monday and he said he would write to midwife who would send booking in appointment and after that she would make scan appointment. But she's about to go on holiday! Argh, very glad I have an early scan in two weeks.

Going to write down symptoms as reassurance:
emotional
tired, even if not exhausted
hungry
seem to have a small belly already, although I already had a small belly so hard to tell.

Hope everyone is well today!

Jools1 · 08/10/2008 11:01

Re the symptoms thing - I had a major wobble on Friday / Sat when I was convinced my mild low-level nausea had disappeared and my boobs had deflated. 24 hrs later, boobs were sore again, and yesterday my nausea, tiredness and bloodhound sense of smell went up a notch.

Soooo, I guess all we can do is wait and try not to stress as our bodies learn to cope with the hormones. Easier said than done

I've worked out that commuting into London makes me feel nauseous and very very tired, but working in the local office, or from home, doesn't make me so tired, therefore I don't get nauseous - maybe it is nature's way of telling me to do less and stop commuting !! At least now I know not to obsess if I'm having a quiet day outside of London and have no major symptoms !

NotSoRampantRabbit · 08/10/2008 11:16

LittleSarah

I had a homebirth last time too. Am definitely planning to do the same again. I had a great birth with DS with the aid of a pool and vast quantities of g&a. Was very quick too (5 hours) and midwife told me I should homebirth next time as chances are it will be even faster.

Oooohhhh - actually getting more excited!

LittleSarah · 08/10/2008 11:22

NotSoRampantRabbit - my birth (established labour) was about 5 hours too, definitely hoping it will be even quicker this time!

Didn't have a pool - second floor flat - but did have a couple of baths during, but did have gas and air, although only 10 mins at the end as they didn't want to give it to me too early in case it ran out and then of course everything happened quite quickly and it was time to push!

Jools1 - the symptoms thing is such a PITA. I cannot wait to get to the end of 1st trimester (fingers crossed) so I can relax.

summerbird · 08/10/2008 13:29

Thanks guys - my symptoms have come and gone today in waves, i have had waves of nausea followed by sensitive boobies and now feeling shattered!!

With regards to choice of hospitals, I did what Jools suggested and looked on MN, (go to the Mumsnet Local threads) luckily there was a thread with exactly the info i required and i based my choice on that, basically there are two hospitals, one is a big busy impersonal hospital and one is a smaller friendlier cottage hospital so i have gone for the cottage hosp apparantly the care is better as the nurses have more time for you.

happy days!

yoshimi · 08/10/2008 13:34

hello everyone-

wow this thread has got busy!

Congratulations to all the new BFPs.

Good to see some more homebirthers on here- I had a home birth with DS and would like one again- however we are just about to move to a new area so will need to do some research- might not be as easy this time.
Still not feeling too nauseous here- was worried about how I'd cope at work but luckily it's going ok- just knackered in the evenings.

Here's to a speedy and healthy first trimester for everyone!

Lionstar · 08/10/2008 13:59

Hi all, not many symptoms in this neck of the woods either. At a push I'd say my nipples are a bit more sensitive (but DD is still dangling off them several times a day and a nursing toddler is not an easy ride!), also possibly peeing a bit more and feeling a bit bloated. Last time at this stage I was peeing every 5 minutes and TOTALLY lost my appetite for 3 months. Eating like a horse at the moment, so I suspect I'm not going to loose a stone like I did last time (and probably gain an extra one!)

Glad to hear those positive homebirth stories. We had one booked last time, but DD arrived at 37 weeks after early rupture of waters before she was even engaged. They did give me a couple of days at home to try and get labour started, but in the end went in to be induced. Hoping for a home pool birth this time though.

Have finally just rung the medical centre and have been given a booking appointment with the midwife next Thursday, when I'll be about 8.5 weeks. At least I didn't have to go and see the useless (at childbirth stuff) doctor first.

Jools1 · 08/10/2008 14:04

I'm starting to wonder about a homebirth myself - like the thought of it, but am not sure - being a first timer - if it would be considered ?
