summerbird · 27/09/2008 15:37

Hi there

Did the test last night even though DH wanted me to wait a few days. I wanted to just do it to see if i could have a glass of wine or not and hoo-bloody-rah after 6 months of TTC number one i got a BFP on the free ClearBlue digital test!

So need to get a GP appointment but reckon i am due on 5 June 2009.

Anyone want to join me?

It hit properly about a week and a half ago. Nausea in waves all day. I think it's marginally better than last time but only marginally!

mica23 · 23/10/2008 14:57

Its still early days for me at the sickness front and dont have any new advice.Seems you covered it all well! Now lets hope some of it works..
Any ideas why our bodies, now that we are pregnant, want us to get up at 5!!
And just a quick reminder; start to excercise your pelvic floor, unless of course lifetime subscripstion to Tena Lady sounds like something you fancy..

mica23 · 23/10/2008 15:11

LittleSarah-sorry didt mean to sound calous.Did you try talking to a herbalist maybe? There are things that are safe to take during pregnancy..Hope you feel better soon.

flynn1984 · 23/10/2008 15:11

I've noticed that since I became pg that I'm always up at 6.20 on the dot and I'm one of these people who like to sleep right up to the last possible minute before getting up for work...weird how our og bodies work!

LittleSarah · 23/10/2008 15:25

Don't know about getting up at 5 mica23. I am waking quite early but then I'm going to bed quite early! Not to worry about sounding callous, you don't! I've found eating something (small) helps sometimes but not much else!

Jools1 · 23/10/2008 15:51

Bleurghh - having the most horrendous diarrhea today I am wondering if it a reaction to eating loads of probiotic yoghurt last night in an effort to get things moving Tum feels smaller now and I think my digestive system has moved from one extreme to the other !!

As for sleeping - I was waking up at 3am, wide awake for quite a while, then had a week of sleeping well, but woke up at 1.45 last night and tossed and turned from then till 5.30, at which point I gave up and got up.

Meeting with my boss went well, after a bit of a hiccup when he started talking about getting budget signoff to get me involved in a new project next year - I managed to persuade him I wanted to start sooner than that, so we have frigged the budget, otherwise I might have had to come clean and said he'd only get me for a maximum of 4 months !! They want me to come to Wales once a fortnight - I hope I'll still be capable of that sort of commute into next year !

DawnoftheDead · 23/10/2008 16:05

Thanks for all the welcomes ladies.

Flynn, I have to say that your sickness sounds really terrible. I am really praying that I don't get MS like that and really feel for you. I've had a sickness phobia since the age of about 11 and haven't actually been sick for 9 years. Strangely the phobia very nearly put me off trying for a baby for good. Some people have told me they hope that I get MS because it might help me to get over it - but I really don't think phobias work like that... I know I'll have to get used to it though when the little one starts going to nursery/school and mixing with all the germs!!

LittleSarah, you too hun. Sounds terrible. I do get nausea through the day but like others have said, only when I'm hungry - good excuse to eat I think!!

Leaky, I sooo know what you mean about attempting to be healthy. I had visions of eating mountains of fruit and vegetables, but it just hasn't happened. In fact the thought of eating veg actually makes me feel quite nauseous and all I really fancy for lunch is cheese on crackers. I'm really loving the cheese!! It's weird, I seem to really love something one day and then the next day I can't face it. Poor DH has no idea what to cook for dinner anymore and has to ask me what I want every time!! I am managing a couple of satsumas and at least 3 big glasses of apple juice every day though so I guess that's helping... Also disguising veg in meals (like you would for a child... ) helps.

Big waves to everyone else!!

Now, I need to ask a question which may seem a bit personal but it's something that's actually making me feel a bit low... I'm normally a size 10-12 and weigh about 9st 8 (I'm 5ft 8). Well bearing in mind I'm only 7 weeks, I'm already a size 14 and have put on 6lbs. I'm just concerned because everything I've read says that you're not supposed to really put on any weight in the first trimester. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? I don't think I'm eating more than usual and I have been constipated. But working from home, I really don't want to end up buying loads of clothes in a bigger size before I'm even showing. Most of it does seem to be stomach though, which is weird because I've never really been a stomach girl, normally bum and hips for me...

Sorry if I sound vain, I'm just concerned that there might be something wrong....

LittleSarah · 23/10/2008 16:12

I don't think anything is wrong. Some people put on weight, some don't. I haven't yet but that's because I'm struggling to eat too much. (I'm sure I'll catch up).

If you're eating lots of cheese - which I can totally understand! - then that might be it!

Jools1 · 23/10/2008 16:14

Dawn - I am overweight anyway, despite all efforts to exercise and diet over the past couple of years, I've lost some weight, but am still around 2 stone over what I should be and felt really anxious about it at a MW appt when I was 7+4 - I got weighed then and had put on half a stone in 2 weeks !!! She gave me a bit of a telling off, assuming that I'd been overeating but I really really hadn't

I do know though that I've always been prone to bloating before AF, so think this is just an extension of the same problem. It got me paranoid enough to, although not dieting, step away from the chocolate altogether and snack on nothing but fruit and veg - ended up losing 3 pounds in the next week but have stuck there and I think the weight is going up again If my BMI goes up any further, I have to go under a consultant, which initially made me feel a bit of a failure, but now I just tell myself that I'm doing all the right things, so sod anyone who tells me off - they're not living with this metabolism

I can only assume we are all different - if you know you aren't over-eating, then it has to be baby weight

Tee2072 · 23/10/2008 16:14

jools I probably would have spilled the beans! And I would be concerned about the commute!

mica I'm also up at 5. GAG!

flynn1984 · 23/10/2008 16:19

dawnofthedead I hope you don't get MS as bad as what I've had today, but the past couple of weeks I've just felt sick so hopefully I won't suffer MS as bad as what I did earlier today
I've been kinda worried about the weight thing too. Before I fell pg I weighed 13 1/2 stone (which I do not look like I'm 13 1/2 stone) but I'm only around 6 weeks gone and I've put on 6lbs already, and like you I don't feel like I have been eating any more than usual, but have stopped eating the low fat meals I was before, so worried I'm just going to balloon

DawnoftheDead · 23/10/2008 16:49

Hey all,

Thanks for all your support - at least I'm not the only one that's worried about it.

Of course, the good thing is that my Mum (who's had 5 children - ) has made it quite clear that by the second trimester, sickness, tiredness and sluggishness generally goes and you start to feel really great. So maybe that's a good time to start eating healthier again.

LittleSarah, I'm thinking you are probably right and that the cheese isn't going to be helping - .

So, my plan is that while my taste buds are being so fussy and I'm having a bit of nausea, I'll eat what I fancy and what I can stomach. When all that stops (praying that it stops...), I will start to think more sensibly about what I'm eating.

Jools, at the MW for making you feel like that! As you say, you're doing everything right that you can so sod 'em!! I have 3 sisters and two of us are fairly slim and two of us are fairly big. And it's not that they suddenly put on weight, they were always big so it just goes to show that even between siblings, genetic make up can be soooo different! You go girl!!

Thanks again to everyone else! Right, off to make a chilli now with loads of mushrooms, onions and tomatoes (but with garlic bread... !!

Diege - this is my 3rd! I am really struggling this afternoon. Feel extremely tired and finding it hard to entertain DS's being stuck in the house with gales and rain outside.I have also been feeling lightheaded. Craving mashed potato
The thought of a huge bed to myself in a hotel room with uninterrupted sleep sounds heaven Jools. Make the most of it! I am so

daisy5 · 23/10/2008 17:18

It's all politics isn't it. The MW's these days are told to try and stop women from putting on weight in pregnancy. They used to say - you will be hungrier when you get pregnant and you need to eat more. Now they say that you need no extra calories in the first three months and then only an extra 200 calories a day (equivalent of a piece of toast with something on it or two bananas) for the second and third trimester.

But I could not possibly eat just that as today my body was screaming out for food - and I just get really faint if I don't eat.

With my dd I used to have three breakfasts by 10.00 before I started to feel 'ok'.

Ironically when I went to the MW last time, she did her calculations and said I was overweight. When I had a consultation with a private gynacologist a few weeks later - he said that he could tell just from looking at me that I was healthy and strong and not at all overweight for my body shape, and that weight should absolutely not be an issue for me unless I put on a lot. Amazing how different the views were.

Heebeejeebee · 23/10/2008 17:32

Hi all!

Choccie - I'm with you on the greasy hair. Mine smelt yesterday which it's never done before. Also feeling tired, ravenous and my system is backed up!!!

Got an early scan (7.3) booked with the EP midwife (same person as I had for the mmc earlier this eyar) so trying to relax until then!

Hope all you ladies who are feeling sick are managing to control it!

ChloeandAlfie · 23/10/2008 17:38

God! Bloody midwives and health visitors.... some seem to have some kind of need to make you feel as shit about yourself as possible! Dawn don't worry about what she said. If you know that you are eating as healthily as you can, then it's just your body's way of dealing with pregnancy. I put on 4 stone with my son, and, tho I'm not intending to put that much on next time, it was my body's way of dealing with it.....

Having said all that I am REALLY craving a Big Mac at the moment....

Jools1 · 23/10/2008 17:39

My hair used to get greasy very quickly - now it just doesn't

This is the week 8 / entering week 9 update from Fertility Friend

"Your uterus is enlarged and your waistline may have increased slightly by now. The pregnancy hormones in your system have increased the volume of blood in your body.

Your skin may have improved (the famous "glow" of pregnancy) or you may be experiencing skin problems. Your gums may be softer. The thyroid gland in your neck may be more prominent. Your hair may also be less oily. Your breasts may feel fuller and more tender. You may notice increased creamy vaginal secretions."

My skin is looking good

ChloeandAlfie · 23/10/2008 17:42

Oh my God Jools ... never write 'creamy vaginal secretions' ever again!! LMAO!

Tee2072 · 23/10/2008 18:30

LOL chloe!!!! But I have to agree! Especially since I'm feeling a bit sick tonight!

I am actually find that I feel fine if I remember to eat something every few hours. The problem with that is that I have it in my head that if I am not hungry, I shouldn't eat. Mid-morning I am usually starving so I make toast at work, but Mid-afternoon, not so much. So I was at Tesco tonight after work and suddenly felt so sick I ripped open a box of Ritz crackers in the middle of the aisle! I then paid for it, of course!

So that seems to be the key for me. Keep eating!

DawnoftheDead · 23/10/2008 18:51

Oh Tee, I'm sure the episode in Tesco wasn't at all pleasant, but I can't help PMSL at a vision of a woman ripping open a box of crackers and ramming them in her mouth like a mad-person! I'm sure it wasn't like that at all but my imagination worked overtime when I read it!!

My hair isn't more greasy than normal but my skin is horrid. I've got loads of spots coming up, also on my chest and the top of my back aswell - mm mmmm - very attractive!!

I'm looking forward to that "healthy glow" that you're supposed to get, because right now I feel like a spotty blimp!! OMG - listen to me, I'm only 7 weeks!!! I'll just look forward to the stage when I don't care that I'm a spotty blimp!!

Oh well, I'm going to go and watch some TV to cheer myself up. Have a lovely evening ladies!!

ello there dawn good to see you here too rubbish about your GP but mine was similar, i havent seen a midwife yet (even tho i am 35 and is my first pregnancy) but have got my scan date in for 11 November - hoorah!

leaky i too had visions of eating healthier, tho so far i have been eating ginger nuts and chocolate!! i do think i have lost a bit of weight because i am not drinking - oh anddawn given that you have a healthy lifestyle i would bet that you are bloated from the constipation - dont worry too much about it until that gets better

Hi Ladies, thank you for my welcome a week or so a go...must admit have been so tired when coming home from work, haven't had the energy to sit at the computer and have been going to bed as early as possible. Can't join in in conversations about anything that was on TV after 8.30

Yuk! Feel rubbish but when I feel fine I worry something is wrong! Don't want to wish pregnancy away but can't wat for my first scan so I can be certain it's not all in my head!

Milkmade · 23/10/2008 19:36

Little Sarah - last time round I had my dh convinced that the best way for me not to feel sick was for hi to make me breakfast in bed, so as soon as I got up I had something to eat (usually plain porridge worked for me) - it has to be worth a try - (doesn't work for me these days as we're all in a mad scramble to get the three of us out the door by 8...

chocciedooby · 23/10/2008 20:59

Make sure you look after your teeth ladies.Had my broken tooth repaired today but my gums have softened due to pregnancy and I need to see the hygienist to give my teeth and gums a first class clean. I think I heard a saying once that you lose a tooth for every baby. Maybe a tad old fashioned but I have lost bits of teeth during each pregnancy.

PMSL Tee. I too have an image of a woman stuffing crackers into her mouth mid aisle. Very funny.

TheLittleMermaid · 23/10/2008 22:09

Hello everyone. Yuk - just got home from an evening meeting after having been at work all day. Have been driving for hours.... am tired tired tired!!

Poor you Flynn and Sarah. No sickness yet for me which is weird cos with DS I was sick all day long every day from 4 weeks to 16 weeks. I found frozen melon balls (!) and sherbert lemons worked well.

However, have got greasy hair (yuk) and am already doing crazy pregnancy things - tried to put my pin number into the microwave to heat up DS's milk this morning .
