summerbird · 27/09/2008 15:37

Hi there

Did the test last night even though DH wanted me to wait a few days. I wanted to just do it to see if i could have a glass of wine or not and hoo-bloody-rah after 6 months of TTC number one i got a BFP on the free ClearBlue digital test!

So need to get a GP appointment but reckon i am due on 5 June 2009.

Anyone want to join me?

flynn1984 - don't worry too much - I've heard stories of just the same thing happening to women at such an early scan, and then 'heh presto' they go for the next scan and there it is, heartbeat and all.

Milkmade · 16/10/2008 12:10

Jools: Don't listen to them - spinning is great pg exercise as you're fully supoorted (i.e. not weight bearing like jogging) and also there's no jarring motion so you don't put your joints under that extra stress. Just be sensible how hard you push it - the standard advice is exercise at a level where you could mantain a conversation.

On the handlebar thing I think I pulled both the handlebar and the seat up a bit, and also obviously moved the seat back.

Now you're really making me feel I need to get cracking myself again!

summerbird · 16/10/2008 12:51

lilacpink i am so sorry hon, you take lots of care of yourself and enjoy your time with your DC and family. this is all about you now

mrsmcjnr i am getting that too, the FIL said to me - well i suppose your mum wants you to have a boy (as she had three girls) and we want you to have a girl (they had two boys) so you are going to be upsetting someone. - WTF!!!!! As long as my baby is healthy then i dont give a jot what we have!

The retching started this morning, i fed the cats and spent 5 mins with my head over the sink, no vomiting thank god. i feel much better now and have polished off a lovely tuna sandwich and crisps....mmmmm

Lilacpink so sorry to hear what has happened to you. Although it's horrible just now you have to think that sometimes this happens because it wasn't right in the first place,IYKWIM.

I've been looking after my 2.5yr old & friends 2yr old this morning.I shouldn't have come on here really cos I feel shattered now but fortunately as I don't do proper () work I can go & rest on the sofa now while my DS watches tv

Hope everyone's enjoying the experience of being pregnant.....

swottybetty · 16/10/2008 13:28

lilac sorry to hear your news.

all this talk of exercise is making me feel sheepish. i swore last time that i would have a more active pregnancy. partly to lose weight quicker after and partly to help with labour. any straw to clutch onto re the latter!

hiya strawb and welcome

here's a question - does anyone remember when the bloom sets in? i def had a bloom last time. at present no sign of bloom whatsoever...

another question - did anyone else get really annoyed by that emma's diary booklet they got from gp? load of patronising twaddle. and stuff like a a list of "essentials" you have to buy for a baby that make my blood, if not boil, then certainly simmer a little bit

leaky · 16/10/2008 13:29

Ooh StrawberrySam how exciting for you, big congratulations

Just expect nausea, tiredness & getting queasy from certain smells etc for the 1st trimester & you'll be fine!!

I'm off to lie down now or I'll never get to the sofa before school pick up!

Myneaux · 16/10/2008 13:39

Hey Flynn1984 glad to see there is another martial arts lady on here !

I am a black stripe in Tae Kwon Do and have carried on training. I spoke to my instructor at 5 weeks (7+4 now) and told him straight away....he said there have been loads of ladies who have trained throughout their pregnancy and have found it really beneficial.

We did a bit of research and have decided that I should avoid any strenuous stomach excersizes, any sparring (where accidental contact might occur) and any floor work (we dont do a lot of this in tae kwon do anyway).

Other than that he just said to listen to my body and dont push myself. One thing you have to look out for as things get further along is that you lose your sense of balance and can overstretch (as your joints and muscles become more flexible).

The hard thing is having to drop out of the class when everyone is sparring....have had to make up a 'back injury' until its safe to tell everyone!

flynn1984 · 16/10/2008 13:52

Hiya Myneaux

Thank you for your reply!
I was thinking of continuing karate, we do a lot of pad work, floor work (break falls take downs & wrestling), sparring and kata.
If I do continue I'll prob only stick with small warm up plus kata, but worried about doing this. May wait until 12 weeks have past...If I get to this stage cos of the worry I'm having at the mo.

Laura

Myneaux · 16/10/2008 14:13

Flynn1984 In understand you want to be cautious right now and what kind of excersize anyone does has to feel right for them.

I will continue with most aspects of tae kwon do (Im still doing pad work, patterns as we call them and self defence) I think on the whole its actually an ideal sort of excersize in pregnancy because you can amend what you do depending on how you feel (especially when you are a more senior grade)....most of the aerobic work doesnt put any stress on any particular area of the body and some of the meditation and stretching is very like yoga.

My midwife looked very sceptical though !

Myneaux · 16/10/2008 14:35

Question for you June Ladies !!!

have just got back from my booking appointment with the midwife and I now have to decide which screening tests to have.

In Leeds we only get the triple blood test on the NHS (which I think is about 65 % accurate in assessing risk of Downs etc). We have the option of having a private blood test and combined nuchal fold scan which is about 95% accurate (but does cost £195).

Im 31 so not technically high risk and cant really make up my mind what to do....midwife said to think about what I would do if the results were to be bad (CVS termination etc)....but part of me thinks there is no point going through a massive decision like that at this stage when you might not have to.

Have you decided what you are doing?

Jools1 · 16/10/2008 14:48

*Myneaux - I am having exactly the same dilemma - only difference is that a private nuchal scan and bloods here is a bit cheaper at £140.

I can't decide if I want to know or not - not sure if I could bring myself to act on any bad information or simply go forward with the pregnancy, worrying and hoping. MW said that the reason people tend to go for the nuchal is because it is done earlier than the triple test meaning that, if a termination is necessary, it can all be sorted out a few weeks earlier, thus reducing the trauma as much as possible.

Other people want to know, simply that they can be prepared for what is to come.

Am really not sure right now, but then I'm 39 early next month, so at higher risk

bigcar · 16/10/2008 14:52

Hi myneaux, round here we get the nuchal fold scan as standard, I hadn't realised it wasn't something that everyone had. That's quite a lot of money to charge though isn't it!

CoteDAzur · 16/10/2008 17:01

We get nuchal test as standard during the routine 12 week scan, as well.

When pregnant with DD, all triple blood tests and my 1/750 score did was mess with my mind, so I went for the amniocentesis. I was 34.

This time, aged 37, I will not even bother with triple test but will go straight to amnio.

The question you need to answer is whether or not you will be OK with having a baby with Down's Syndrome, Edward's Syndrome, etc. There are many parents who manage fantastically with their DS babies, and even those who choose to carry ES babies to term, knowing they will live less than a year. And I have a lot of respect for them. But we are not among them.

questions2008 · 16/10/2008 17:02

hey ladies

summerbird ooh retching poor you...i kind of want that to start so i really know im pregnant!

strawberrysam congratulations! it seems we could be birthing buddies, i'm due about 22nd june too and it's our first.

i have a question, i confirmed this morning with my GP which hopital I want to go with with (St Mary's Paddington - very close to work - as other 3 where we live really crap or so i've heard) and she said she'll fax over my referral to them and then I should wait to hear from them directly, but WHEN?! should I expect to hear from them? I'm 4.5 weeks btw

Nemoandthefishes · 16/10/2008 22:29

Lilac am really sorry to hear your news..please take care of yourself and talk to others. I have had 3mc one of which was mmc and it was horrible but I had my 2 dds after that.

Well another couple of tests down the line and it is sinking in I am pg Also noticed today my stomach has popped right out..suppose thats what happens when you are on your 5th pregnancy in 5yrs

MrsMcJnr · 16/10/2008 22:50

Lilacpink ? I am so sorry hon. When we lost our first baby to a miscarriage, I found this site fabulous, the ladies on the TTC after MC kept me sane and really helped me heal, wishing you similar support and empathy xxx

MrsMcJnr · 16/10/2008 23:13

Daisy ? I?m sure he?ll remember you (CAT me your real name!!) he seems to have real interest in his patients; he was asking me all about another friend who was a patient.

Jools ? I only put on the average amount last pg and that was by no means being careful, your body tells you what you need. Take it easy hon, the first 12 weeks are so hard on your body.

Milkmade ? spinning at 33 weeks, wow!

LOL Bigcar wonder what you?ll have this time.

Flynn ? hang in there hon not sure karate is a good idea right now especially aftr what you?ve been through but what do I know!

Summerbird ? bet you wish your FIL had kept that to himself!

Welcome and congrats Strawberrysam ? such an exciting time!!! stick with us and you?ll find all your questions answered!

Hi Leaky hello questions

Swottybetty ? LOL at Emma?s diary chat, agree, totally!

Myneaux ? the whole testing thing is a minefield, what you really need to know is how far are you would go with it before you begin ? if you get a dodgy nuchal (and that combined with the blood test is the most accurate non invasive test) would you have an amnio to get a conclusive result? I did pay for a private nuchal last time and got a good result so that was fine but I often ask myself why I even had that scan because I wouldn?t have had an amnio and risked losing the baby (as I?d lost one just before) and neither would I have terminated so what was the point in even having the scan. It?s so personal but that?s my view plus the tests can never tell you the extent of the disability if there is one so it is hard to really be prepared for what?s to come.

Nicely put Cote I guess I also have my DS to factor into my decision this time too.

TeenyTinyTorya · 16/10/2008 23:52

I'm joining in very tentatively - I'm 4 weeks tomorrow, which feels ridiculously early to know that I'm pregnant.

As a result I'm totally paranoid about everything - been feeling sick all day and then had really bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea (TMI) this evening - is this normal? I thought you were meant to get constipation when you were pregnant!

LittleSarah · 17/10/2008 10:09

Teeny - I think it can go either way with the old bowel movements!

I have been having some major smell-related nausea moments. Both in taxis. Yesterday it was a very strong smelling air freshner thing and this morning kind of horribly stale and fusty. Ugh, couldn't wait to get out!

Reading about all you martial arts ladies makes me feel better about my fall this morning, if you can do that then no doubt falling over isn't too much of a worry!

swottybetty - I know what you mean about Emma's diary, my dh starting reading out list of essentials and then realised it was a British Gas ad!

On the exercise front I'm not doing much except walking but as soon as we hit the second trimester I'm going back to ante-natal yoga, which I loved.

chocciedooby · 17/10/2008 11:31

Welcome and congratulations newbies!

TeenyTinyTorya - Don't worry about the bowels. I had horrid Dia* too
Last 2 pregnancies I had constipation!

My cold is much better today.Still slight headache and blocked sinuses but much improved so catching up on household bits and bobs now.

I have received my appt.for a nuchal scan on Dec 4th. I have to get the triple blood tests done after 9 weeks gestation and at least a week before the nuchal. Its because my bloods are being sent to the UK for testing.

Never had any tests like this done before.Had DS1 at 32 and DS2 at 34.
I feel more healthy now than when I had to other dcs as I drink very little, weight less than before DS2, eat fairly healthily and walk so fingers crossed all will be ok.
Not sure how I feel about Amniocentesis.
My concern would be if there was a bad nuchal result. Where I live termination is illegal!

NickelSodium · 17/10/2008 12:40

Hello,

I'm still here! I don't get chance to check the board too much (and have a lot of reading to catch up on when I do!) as I'm worried it might get 'tracked' somehow at work and I haven't told anyone yet.

Got the date for my scan now (end of Nov) but don't get to see the midwife until late Dec. Am also starting to feel ravenously hungry all the time but not as bloated anymore.

Is anyone out there running? I've had to drop down to a slower group but want to keep going if I can. Worried my bottom seems to be expanding rapidly.

Can recommend yoga - the relaxation at the end is great.

Fantastic to know there are others out there going through the same things having the same worries.

ChloeAnderson · 17/10/2008 13:38

Due on the 5th June. 7 weeks pregnant today. I go from 'couldn't eat a thing' to feeling ravenously hungry within the space of about 5 seconds. Feeling nauseous from about 6 til 11 am and 4 til 8pm. I was throwing up every day when pregnant with ds so I feel a lot better this time round.....

I can't wait for 12 weeks to come. I've had a lot of friends go through mc recently, and I think I was far less worried about it all last time round. Roll on 12 week scan.....

P.S. We also get the NF scan as standard. I'm in Guildford, Surrey. How outrageous that you have to pay and that extortionate amount too!!

Diege · 17/10/2008 13:55

Another tentative joiner if that's OK! I got my BFP this week after a mmc in July. THis will be baby no.4 if it's a sticky one. I have 3 daughters, age 7, 6 and 3 . Excited to be joining, but scared too after past experienec. Will be good to see how others are doing at the same stage.
Oh and my due date is June 22nd

Myneaux · 17/10/2008 14:29

I didnt realise that some people got the NT test for free. It really is ridiculous that NHS provision can vary so much....its not as if we live in a very big country.

On the plus side I have already had 2 appointments with the midwife and another booked for when I will be 11 weeks. It is nice to have some personal care and a chance to ask lots of questions.

Thanks for your views....will have to have a bit of a think about what i want to do.

I am also feeling starving the whole time. If I dont eat something every hour I start to feel lightheaded, nauseaous and really odd (a bit like waking up with a hangover and not knowing whether you were going to be ok or spend the morning being sick !!!). I know its not as bad as proper morning sickness but after 3 weeks of this it is starting to get me down.

I asked the midwife about it yesterday and she said that it is very common in early pregnancy because your metabolism can dramatically speed up. She told me to keep on eating and reassured me that I wouldnt be the size of a house.

She advised eating smaller amounts more regularly (so am now eating half my sarnies at 11.30 and the rest at 12.30) and snack on fruit, yoghurt etc. I have bought loads of mini packs of raisins which are helping me get through the day.

Despite eating over 3000 calories (best guess) a day for the last 3 weeks I have actually lost 4 lbs.

on that note I think I will tuck into my chocolate brownie !!!
