No MrsEvs, no OldNavy here, and they don't ship either. Gap have however started doing maternity, but only if you live in a metropolis.

CoteDAzur · 14/10/2008 08:21

Good morning everyone. Sitting at that wi-fi cafe by the sea again. Eating pain au chocolat with tea in the morning is one thing that eases the queasiness. It is also the only carbohydrates I eat all day. I put on 17 kgs with dd and never managed to shift the last 5kgs of that weight, so being careful this time. I haven't put on any weight yet and after a few days in pregnancy jeans, went back to my normal jeans, held slightly open at the top by a hairband.

A word of friendly advice to first timers: no matter how much you breastfeed, it is hard to lose baby weight, so don't go crazy on the pastries and pasta. I'm not saying we should diet, but exercise a bit of restraint.

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 14/10/2008 09:23

Morning Girls,
Have been up for hours crapping my pants about today, my scan is at 10.50, the pain has subsided quite a bit now so Im hanging on to that as my hope!
I'll let you know how it goes one way or the other,
Thank you all for your support, means so much right now xx

Febes · 14/10/2008 09:33

I want a croissant and tea now very of you Cote!
Still sick, my nose is so blocked. I dropped DD off at the childminders today as I have to pay anyway and she must have been getting bored of me lying around sneezing. Its strange being home without her though.
Jools- don't worry about your weight now your tummy will grow and you will look weird and theres not much you can do about it. The ggod thing is as soon as you give birth you feel so much slimmer even though you still look about 6 months PG for the first month or more you feel like you are shedding weight. In reality it takes a while I was just getting back to normal when I fell pregnant again DD was 9 months old. I was wondering why I my clothes were feeling tight and i joined weight watches and then did a PG test and got my BFP.

Jools1 · 14/10/2008 09:33

Thanks Frazzled I have heard good things about Lighterlife from other people, so think I will give it a go. I did pretty well on Slimfast for a while, then that simply stopped having any effect - moved on to Atkins and was on a version of it for around 18 months - the weight did drop off quite dramtically but I ended up with all sorts of digestive problems from not having enough carbs, so had to stop. Healthy eating Weightwatchers style just doesn't shift the weight, so I need to cut carbs just to stand still and I think this is my problem - I've followed the GP's pregnancy diet sheet and started eating brown bread and potatoes every day but it is bloating me up I think - may try to cut back a little as I used to have carbs only for one meal a day and bread only a couple of times per week.

I wouldn't mind so much if I knew I was eating crap and enjoying it, but I'm not !

Jools1 · 14/10/2008 09:38

Thinking of you today Nikkie - hoping all goes well

Moonlit · 14/10/2008 11:14

Rubysmom - Hun I totally sympathize with you! My advice to you would be to talk to your DH and let him know how you feel and how your MIL makes you feel. The stress is not good for you and the baby. I often tell my DH this (it's the truth) and it always works. MIL's can't help but interfere, it's in their genes, but it's up to you to filter it out and not let her hurtful words and actions affect you.

Jools1 - Just out of curiosity have you ever been tested for PCOS?

Good luck!

xxx

Jools1 · 14/10/2008 11:27

Hi Moonlit - no, never been tested but my periods have always been super regular and pain free and I conceived on cycle 3 of TTC, so I didn't think that could be an issue ?

frazzledoldbag34 · 14/10/2008 12:27

Good luck to those ladies having their scans today. Fingers crossed for some lovely bouncing beans and strong heartbeats. x

Moonlit · 14/10/2008 12:40

Hi Jools1 - PCOS is a syndrome, so most women have varying symptoms. I have always had regular cycles. So my previous GP also ruled out PCOS. But when I insisted on an ultrasound, PCOS was confirmed. Other symptoms include; weight increase (and difficulty in loosing it), acne, excess hair growth etc. There are many undiagnosed women, I think I have diagnosed half of my friends. I conceived my DD on cycle 1 after weight loss and it took two years and then finally realizing I needed to loose weight to conceive my current little bean. Weight has always been an issue for me. But now I know it's the only thing that stops me from getting pregnant.

My MW is carefully monitoring me this time. I am risk of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 14/10/2008 12:46

good luck for your scan today nikkie, hope all is well.

Jools1 · 14/10/2008 12:50

Interesting Moonlit - thanks

Hair growth isn't an issue, although have noticed hair and leg forest growing quicker since being PG. I shall certainly investigate further and bear it in mind / ask questions at the 12 week scan to see if anything comes up.

I can't remember what the MW said my blood pressure was yesterday, but I know she said it was a little high - that plus my higher BMI puts me at those risks too. All I can do is just keep eating a healthy diet and keep exercising. Maybe it is psychological, but I had breakfast at 7.30 and have only had a handful of raisins since then but can't face my lunch !

Febes · 14/10/2008 12:55

If you are bigger then be sure to ask for a large cuff when they take your BP. I kept having high BP readings and was sent to the day clinic to be monitored and it was fine. My mum whos a midwife suggested using alarge cuff and its always fine with that.

FKelly · 14/10/2008 13:11

have had to make app with doctor today. hubby and i got a bit frisky last thursday and developed a touch of cystitus fri.. started on the cranberry juice and thought it had gone. ran out of juice and it's back with avengence today! think maybe it's a UTI and wasn't the friskyness at all?! lol

frazzledoldbag34 · 14/10/2008 13:17

Good on you fkelly for friskiness! I still really can't be bothered at the mo although DH is gagging!

Drink lots and lots of water until you can get more juice ad its prob worth seeing the doc anyway incase you need antibiotics?

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 14/10/2008 13:19

I had my scan and everything is ok, bean was looking up at us and waving franticly, saw heart beat!
I have dilated bloodvessels on the left hand side near ovary so have to rest so not to agrivate it, I have to go back next thurs for another scan, and then I have my 12 week scan the week after, very exciting and feeling quite priviledged I get to see baby 3 times in a row!
Hope everyone is ok today and feeling jolly!
Big smiles all round!
Went to Mothercare and bought my first bundle of maternity clothes!

Febes · 14/10/2008 13:32

Nikki- Thats brilliant news!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 14/10/2008 13:34

nickie - that's great news. So glad all well with your bean. Did they tell you why you have dilated blood vessels near your ovary? Is that what caused your pain? Hope you're feeling better anyway now. It's lovely to see the baby isn't it!!!!

FKelly · 14/10/2008 13:49

Nikki that's fantastic news. I'm sure it won't be too hard to try and take it easy and 2 more scans to look forward to whoopeee

Jools1 · 14/10/2008 13:52

Oh fantastic news Nikkie you must be SO relieved

I have to confess to having just had a wander roud Hennes to investigate maternity wear options and then just had to stand and coo over the newborn sleepsuits

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 14/10/2008 13:58

They have no idea whats caused it but are pretty certain thats what caused my pain but they said its nothing to wrry to much about, they'll just keep an eye on it over the next couple of weeks.
The sonographer said "you know you see old men and women with varacose veins on they're legs, you have those on the inside!" did make DP chuckle ALL THE WAY HOME!
It was amazing to see baby, its incredible how small he was but could see his face, hads, arms, and legs! and the heart pounding away!
Feeling so relaxed now and feeling like I can finally enjoy being pregnant, sat on sofa with laptop and hot chocolate, perfect!

Jonesy68 · 14/10/2008 14:07

Hello, can I join in? I'm new to Mumsnet, aged 40 and 9 weeks tomorrow. Due date 20th May. Already have nearly 6 yr old from marriage, now divorced and with father of this bean who has no others. Miscarried at 8 wks in June already so nervous and desperate to get to the 12 weeks and scan. VERY IMPATIENT! Scarce midwives mean I couldn't get my booking appt til 10 wks. Feeling bloated, knackered and sick on and off. But optimistic this one will be a stayer... x

Jonesy68 · 14/10/2008 14:08

That's 9 wks pregnant btw, not aged 40 and 9 weeks! Sorry

SpangleMaker · 14/10/2008 15:35

Nikkie that's fantastic news, you must be so happy & relieved!

My Mum told me she had lots of one-sided pain before she knew she was pg with me. Her GP told her it was either an ovarian cyst or she was pregnant, which was a bit of a shock to her. She was checked over by a gynae consultant who told her 'you have an ovarian cyst AND you're 4.5months pregnant!' She actually had an op to remove the cyst while she was pg with me, fortunately I turned out ok!

Nikkie Fantastic news am so pleased for you.

Jools I know everyone has already said this but seriously if you are generally very active and healthy (ie. not ill much) which it sounds like you are then BMI is not a good indicator of fitness. My BMI is around 32 and has been for several years despite, WW, SW, various incarnations of Atkins and even horrid weight loss pills which made my poo bright orange (sorry tmi). My Dr has basically said I shouldn't worry, keep up the level of exercise I do and watch what I eat and as long as I'm not getting ill I'm fine. He also pointed out that some really fit sports people have BMIs that class them as obese as so much of their body is muscle. There's a French rugby player, can't remember his name who has a BMI in the morbidly obese category!! Also, my mw said my BMI was nowhere near the top of the scale that she's dealing with at the moment when I expressed concern to her last week.
Sorry, I've gone on a bit there, this whole BMI thing makes me mad, think because I've struggled with my weight my whole life!

Hope all is well with everyone else. Been for first blood tests at Drs today and now have a very achey arm. My nausea seems to be lessening which is good, boobs still incredibly painful tho.
