Hi there everyone. I thought I'd escaped stretch marks last time, but DS must have put a tonne of weight on in the last 6 weeks so I have horrendous stretch marks on my stomach and I had religiously creamed myself everyday
Does anyone else struggle to clean their teeth, I had the same problem last time, it just makes me feel really sick. I also remembered the other day that my ms went on till I was 16weeks. Am hoping it'll be different this time!

runningmonkey · 06/10/2008 17:03

Hi all,
Wow, don't check in for the weekend and have four pages to read!!!

Still feeling nauseous - spent most of the weekend curled up on the sofa watching lord of the rings (mmmmm aragorn!) and sleeping. Had a very difficult evening out on Fri with DH workmates pretending to be interested in work gossip and not falling asleep. Anyone got any good suggestions for non alcy pub drinks? I don't like coke or J2Os and there is only so much lime and soda a girl can drink!!

Have just had my midwife appt - she's very brisk! But its all feeling a bit more real now.

Jools glad the sharing went well.

Re maternity clothes, I was wondering if it was wrong to get some mat jeans already - I'm struggling with all my trousers and skirts but tops are ok (just). I got some quite nice skirts from H&M on Sat which aren't mat clothes but have a nice soft stretchy waistband which should sit under any bumps and therefore last me a bit of time.

Sorry, gone on a bit there. Is wittering a pregnancy symptom?

llareggub · 06/10/2008 17:09

I didn't use any cream at all in my last pregnancy and didn't get any stretchmarks at all. I think you either do or you don't, and no amount of cream or oil will help. Save your money for cake, I think.

CoteDAzur · 06/10/2008 17:22

re "non alcy pub drinks"

I don't know if they would do this in a pub, but a Virgin Bloody Mary has no alcohol (tomato juice, Worcester sauce, pepper, salt) and feels like you are having a proper drink.

runningmonkey · 06/10/2008 17:36

Ooh cote, I didn't think of that, will be trying it next time or maybe even sending dh to shops to buy tom juice this evening!!
cheers!

Dandelioness · 06/10/2008 17:45

daizydoo - luckily I don't have trouble brushing my teeth at the moment, but I certainly did during my last pregnancy. I had such a strong gag reflex, I must have gone days without brushing at one point. Slutty, I know, but there was no way round it. Oh, and like you, my MS lasted to week 16 last time (as well as throughout the day). Again luckily, this time I'm having an easier time of it so far with only intermittent low-level nausea and a general feeling of being away with the fairies.

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 06/10/2008 17:48

Hello!
I'm due 15th May!
2nd PG!
Any advice?? Crapping my pants!!!

SpangleMaker · 06/10/2008 18:19

Not really relevant for a pub, but my midwife gave me some advice when I'd mentioned I was of DH having a gin & tonic. She recommended doing tonic/ice/lemon, then dipping a finger in some gin and running around the rim of the glass. Sounds good to me!

Welcome Nikkie stick with us here, there are plenty of helpful ladies with loads of advice

still not feeling good so haven't got the energy to catch up on everything so sorry if ive missed any important news.

hope everyones keeping well

Overtiredmum · 06/10/2008 19:18

Oh my god, I feel terrible. I have the most awful upset tummy. I kow I probably sound neurotic, but has anyone else had this???? Is there anything I can do/take or do I just have to wait for it to pass? Have hardly eaten all day and am going for dry toast, is that OK do you think? Sorry should probably mention at 10 wks.

On a separate issue, a tip: I found a fantastic accessory for tight trousers/skirts:

www.thebabycatalogue.com (sorry can't do links cos I'm rubbish). They sell something called a Belly Belt and costs 12.99. I tried it out last night some some rather tight jeans and it was marvelous, well worth the investment if you're not quite ready to get maternity jeans/trousers yet.

Rubysmom08 · 06/10/2008 19:53

Hi Overtiredmum- I had gastric flu a couple of weeks ago which resulted in me throwingup buckets from both ends for about 24hrs.. doctor said 'tough it out'... unfortunately the best rememdy is keeping your fluids up! Hope you feel better soon

I just used hair bands to give my jeans that extra give although didn't help much as I quickly burst out of my skinny size 8 jeans during my last pregnancy! Its only been 8 months since I had my dd1 so I have never got back into them because I just got FATTER when i breast fed!

I have ms in the evening so I currently eating every 20 mins! Pitta bread is my new favourite

millionsaway · 06/10/2008 20:03

Hi everyone, how are you all?

I haven't been on here for aaaages - how quickly does this thread move!!!!

I hope you don't me asking you all a question as we are all at the same stages...

For the past week or so I have been getting pain in my left groin area, like an ache. It just appears for an hour or two then goes and is quite uncomfortable especially sitting down. No other symptoms apart from a few mornings I have woken up with a sore hip on that side too. No bleeding or pain anywhere else. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? This is my 2nd pregnancy, my first was pretty much pain free so this is a bit of a shock and I'm worried!! I know I should probably ring Midwife/Doc but I worry that I will be making a fuss.

Thank you for reading and I hope you don't mind me asking here? x x

chubbymummy · 06/10/2008 20:10

My brain has turned to mush!!!!!!
I opened the washing machine door to empty it and spent a good 10-15 seconds trying to work out why there was no washing in there and milk, butter and bacon were there instead. Yup, that's right, I was looking in the fridge not the washing machine. Duh!

So far apart from the washing machine incident I've made a cup of tea with (cold) tap water and put my coat on when I was heading upstairs to bed!

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has completly taken leave of her senses?

chubbymummy · 06/10/2008 20:16

millionsaway I has aches and pains that sound very similar to yours during my pregnancy with ds. I had an early scan and it turned out to be a cyst on my ovary. They are very common in pregnancy and fade as your baby grows. Mine eventually went away by itself but it was really annoying for the first few months. If you are concerned then see your doctor or midwife as it's not worth taking any risks.

frazzledoldbag34 · 06/10/2008 20:19

chubby - don't worry, I too am an intermittent lunatic. Not good .

GreenFingeredMummy · 06/10/2008 20:31

Seem to have started a stretch mark debate.. sorry. You can all tell me off when I end up with loads this time around

Chubby at least you have felt capable of washing, I have had to leave it all to dh (not best idea in the world), just cant manage to do anything, feel like total c**p.

AND dd has come down with some sort of rash, doc thinks its viral, just as long as it doesnt turn into chicken pox, dont think I could cope with both her and me being ill, driving lessons and new jobs all at the same time. When exactly do you get to have a rest before 2nd baby comes along?!?!?!?!?

millionsaway · 06/10/2008 20:47

chubbymummy Thank you for replying so quickly! I will call the midwife in the morning, like you say it's not worth taking any risks.

Lol at your brain turning to mush!! I seem to be doing things like that all the time!! I once ran a bath without putting the plug in and couldn't work out why it was taking so long to fill up!

frazzledoldbag34 · 06/10/2008 20:52

Stretch marks (IMHO) can only be avoided by doing the following:
1 Do not get pregnant
2 Do not gain or lose a lot of weight in a reasonably short period of time
3 Do not have the genetic makeup that pre-disposes you towards getting them

That's it really. Dead easy.
Using lots of creams / body oil is lovely and makes you feel fabulous but in my experience does absolutely bugger all to prevent stretch marks (and I used some seriously expensive stuff). I got stretch marks with DD1, and none (or no new ones) with DD2 - mainly because I was much thinner with DD2 and didn't gain much weight in her pregnancy. Hmmmm, curious no?

sorry, don't know why I'm being so snarky about it - must be the hormones and I am feeling quite sick at the mo.
They aren't a big deal in the long run anyway - they fade a lot to faint lines and you can cover them with fake tan quite nicely for the beach.
Why am I still talking about it, why why why?

frazzledoldbag34 · 06/10/2008 20:54

God, my stomach is huge, come to think of it! I do actually look quite pregnant!

GreenFingeredMummy · 06/10/2008 21:03

Ok no more talk of stretch marks, saggy bellys or non-existent boobs. We are all bloody fabulous!!!!!

pulapula · 06/10/2008 21:11

I have heard that if you want to know if you'll get stretchmarks or not, ask your mum. Its very genetic. Luckily my mum didn't get them, and i've had 2 babies and no stretchmarks at all. Plenty of cellulite though and some saggy skin lol.

Jools1 · 06/10/2008 21:13

I don't feel pregnant, just FAT, FAT, FAT at the moment !! I'm hoping it will all turn bump-shaped soon, or people will just assume I'm eating all the pies

My sense of smell has gone up another notch - I can smell the glass of wine that DP has on the other side of the room !

frazzledoldbag34 · 06/10/2008 21:20

jools I'm with you on the ridiculous sense of smell. Went for Italian last night and DH and BF had very garlicky pasta. Then had to sit between the 2 of them in the cinema and almost passed out from the smell of garlic and seafood emanating from them. Absolutely gross. The film was rubbish too! Best thing about it was the bag of pic-n-mix I had on my knee and had to keep sticking my nose in and sniffing to stop myself throwing up.

Gah

detsy · 06/10/2008 21:21

I'm fat, grumpy and totally knackered. I shouted at my gorgeous 11 mnth old this morning for continually climbing on my oh so sore boobs and she looked so shocked and upset that I felt immediately lousy. Still feeling really guilty now - poor little titch.

Completely cheesed off with DP's night time deafness when DD disturbs - so he got it in the neck as well today and he can bloody well get up 48 times tonight, grrrr

Jools I am fat fat fat and I am eating all the pies which I promised I wouldn't do this time - already half a stone heavier

I haev to ask someone soon about this size explosion if I don't control my tummy muscles I look about 6 months....

Any why oh why is there sod all on the telly?

frazzledoldbag34 · 06/10/2008 21:27

detsy poor you having to get up in the night. Make HIM do it, hate it when men affect deafness like that. Really winds me up too.
I'm also feeling LARGE. But keep having to eat to feel better. Will get back in control of my diet again once this horrid nausea buggers off.......
