Hi ladies, new thread as we seem to have outgrown the old one!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pinkyminkee · 21/09/2008 16:52

Bless him! Could you keep the baby with you longer than you planned, that might give you more options??
It's really tricky because you may find the little ones get very close because they are very close in age and if DD gets used to sharing with a sibling she might not want to be on her own. arrggh!!

Pinkyminkee · 21/09/2008 16:57

I'm looking at their wooden bunk beds that do split, as the girls will prolly go in them, but they'll need to be ground level until they are both about 5-6. We used to have a grown up loft bed in DS's room, when it was an office, before we had children, and you are right, it's a bugger to change the sheets.

Renaissancewoman! Hello! Sorry to hear you are sufffering, but am very of your big nap!!

MerryMarigold · 21/09/2008 17:06

I've had a similar dilemma to you both too! The age gap between ds and his future little bro will be 3 years. I anticipate them sharing the bigger room when they are older, but will be the twins room for a couple of years first, maybe till they are out of cots. I think I will just have to 'brainwash' ds1 into thinking it's a FANTASTIC idea to be sharing with his little brother, if he is less than enthusiastic. Right now I think he would love it, but by then he will be going to school, so who knows how much he will change.

Lacks, I think it is ok for girls and boys to share till fairly 'old' (6-7ish), so would let ds2 share with dd2 so there is not so much of a 'boys and girls' dynamic going on in the family. I am torn really between putting the ds's together because I don't want to separate out, but also don't want 'the twins' to be a unit at the expense of ds, and want him to feel part of them iyswim, hence putting him with the boy twin fairly early. But who knows, it could change? Did you plan your colourful walls? We are all waiting for the pic of that!!!

Renaissance, I feel like I need 10 hours, but just can't get it. It's like being constantly hungry/ thirsty, wanting sleep and not being able to get it, not because of ds who is fine, but I just can't sleep longer than a couple of hours (usually 1.5) at a time.

Pinkyminkee, good solution to your problem! I will have to go back to Ikea. Harrumph. Better do it quick. That walk to the checkouts will be impossible by the end of next week! Oh well, I wanted some storage too, but didn't have the energy capacity to look round. You know those little boxes that zip up at the bottom you can use for drawer dividers...do you know where they keep them in store? I was keeping my eye open but never saw them (didn't have energy to search).

Pinkyminkee · 21/09/2008 17:20

MM you and lacks are clearly just going to have to have more babies to level thind]gs out!!
THo lady here had twins then the next lot were triplets so maybe not??

The drawer organiser thingies were in a basket in the wardrobe dept in IKea Ashton. Gawd you remind me of a rip to IKea last time round when I was very near my due date. It took ages for us toget round. can you send somebody else on a mission?

MummyNic · 21/09/2008 18:12

Evening everyone. Have had a mixed weekend of being lazy yesterday and busy today. I have just 1.5 days of work left and then I can finally get some rest - but the lead up to leaving work for 13 / 14 months (have saved a fair bit of leave to take first) has been awful - only had 2 / 3 days to train my relief and was trying to do the mid year forecast at the same time!!

Still, they've had 6 months notice of my going so it's tough if they don't arrange relief in good time - at least, that's what I keep telling myself....

MM - my condensor tumble drier is a hotpoint one and has 3 very simple programmes and the rest is 'normal or high heat' and a selection of minutes - VERY easy to use. It's an Aquarius CTD40. Here it is tumble drier

Hope everyone is ok. I have SPD too - living in a bungalow is a God send and, at work, I have cut out stairs completely - using a lift to travel just one floor is embarrassing but I have managed to stay relatively pain free - although I started with tremendous hip pain today so am thinking of getting a support belt...

Sorry I haven't been around much since joining - work has weighed quite heavily on my mind lately - I'll be a little more regular from Wed!!!

wendiwoo · 21/09/2008 18:16

Hi, do any of you lovely pregnant ladies fancy having a FREE doula at your birth? I am trying to get my final birth completed for my Doula training, and having trouble finding a client. If you live in the Midlands (Pref near Coventry)and would like to know more I can Email you! Thanks!

twinklingfairy · 21/09/2008 18:30

I have these lights from Ikea and live about 300 miles from my closest.
So I know you can get the lighbulbs elsewhere. Homebase do them, as do Woolies.
Just to save you future trips, but if you are going anyway, then just as well to get them then.

I got a plain touchlamp for when BF DD, from B&Q and put in a 10 watt bulb so that it was really really low. It had three light level options too, so Dead low on the....lowest. Have I said 'low' enough times now

Yikes, I can't think of anything constructive to say re sleeping arrangements.
I will be waiting to see how this LO sleeps as to whether I am happy to get them to share for a while (I have a DD and expecting a DS) or push DH to move out of this house. Something he is loathed to do, but I would do tomorrow.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/09/2008 19:30

MM, in our local IKEA those zippy things were in a basket in the bedroom bit of the showroom and also in the home organising section of the market place with all the other storage stuff and shelves etc.

Does your IKEA not have wee shortcuts? They have opened up loads of them in Leeds, so you can go straight to the warehouse bit if you want and can cut through from one dept to another cutting out vast swathes of the showroom.

Send DH on a mercy mission. You need to rest

Hi mummynic, good to hear from you again and that we'll hear more of you from now on. Sorry about the SPD, it sucks doesn't it

a free doula would be fab, if I was local and hadn't already shelled out £500 for mine!

ceebee74 · 21/09/2008 19:59

Will catch up in a bit.

Daisy - just clicked that link to the thread about childcar vouchers and got some office chairs from Ebay - I will go and search but if you are around, could you link again?

MerryMarigold · 21/09/2008 20:43

Oh Dear, I was in tears to You Raise Me Up. Westlife. Oh no, oh no . What pregnancy does to you.

Done putting stuff in loft (well dh did I packed it up), and getting stuff out. Obs, you would be so proud. I have about 45 vests, tiny and newborn!! And about 40 babygros. Everyone has given me their old stuff, and I haven't even had any new gifts yet!!

Yeah, Lacks, we didn't even go to showroom section, just walked all way thru market hall and then you have to trek thru warehouse to checkouts.

Pinky, no more babies, no way, especially after triplet scare! (Sometimes I still think 3 are going to come out, it feels like it). DH is getting the snip (he volunteered). Just my mission now to persuade him to adopt a little girl.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/09/2008 20:50

same here merry, definately no more babies here, which reminds me DH needs to see the GP and get booked in. He was supposed to have it done after DD but failed to make an appointment!!!....ha ha serves him right

ceebee74 · 21/09/2008 20:51

Just sat watching SCD after eating a Dominos pizza

Had a lovely day - went to my last aerobics class and then me, DH and DS went to Blackpool for the afternoon. Found a fab independent baby shop which sold unusual stuff and got a fantastic zoo bedset for DS - although they had some cars that looked just like Brum (which is Ds's favourite programme) so he had a tantrum in the shop!!
Then DS and DH went paddling in the sea.

Pinky - love the new name

This is definitely the last baby for me too - without doubt! I really don't think I want to put my body through this again in another couple of years when I will be 36 - plus I am not really enjoying this pg as I did my first. Fortunately both me and DH agree on this and DH WILL be getting the snip shortly

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

missygoo · 21/09/2008 21:50

Yup, us too. DH did not like seeing me with the MS this time round (he was working away for the last HG pregnancy, so doesn't even know the half of it) but it was enough to make him volunteer too.
And, having found out that both my dad and his ( I knew about his, but was a surprise to hear about mine! Funny story though, will tell ya in a mo). Anyway, with both dads having gone through it and survived, I have a better chance of getting him to et it done.
Are there waiting lists aplenty for this, d'you know?

How I found out about my dad. I had been chatting to a guy about it and he had been ttrying to convince me that I should be teh one to get it done cos he reckon, or feared, that it would diminish his sex drive, therefore DH's and therefore I would be the one to ultimately lose out
Well, I was relaying this load of tosh to my mum, who then reassured me that that was not the case, before going a bit red So I said, 'Sounds like the voice of experience there?' To which she turned bright red and mumbled something, then (presumably deciding, 'sod it!') said, 'Well, yes. Your father had it done years ago.'
Oh!
She very quicly made her exit after that. Teehee, was funny to see her flustered. Was obviously the reference to their sex life that embarassed her, but made me want to tease mercilously!!
My mum and dad are so great, I have know for years that my mum still fancies the pants off my dad! Over 30 years married, brill isn't it? Wish I am the same in 27 years time (or 21 if not from wedding day, yikes!)

Just realised, wedding anniversary (and day we met anniversary) is in 3 days!
Wonder if he will bother with a card Doubt it.
Maybe just a kiss.
Or maybe I should put out?

Oblomov · 21/09/2008 22:04

LOL at discussions of where Lacks and MM babies are going to sleep and discussions of them having more, just to round it all up . Ha ha.
Ds wants to sleep with baby, now. I gave him the option before we started decorating spare room, but now he wants to be with baby 24/7.
Yes, no more babies for me. I will talk to Mr Marsh on tues about being sterilisied when I have my cs.

By the way, my feet and legs actually , from the knee down have swollen tonight. BADLY. Literally, you could pop them with a pin. Not an inch of spare skin. Bad. I was like this for the last month , with ds. Last time kings weren't concerned. But it was very unpleasant. As I said, I am going on tues anyway. Oh dear. Last time this was VERY uncomfortable. Was hoping it wouldn't happen this time. SHIT. Not happy.

missygoo · 21/09/2008 22:09

Oops, I am twinklingfairy by the way.
I had to change my name cos I was a bit silly and told someone my nickname.
She asked outright, so I told.
Now I am worried about being found or checked up on.

Pinkyminkee · 21/09/2008 22:14

OOh Oblomov that sounds very uncomfortable, your poor thing can anything be done to allieviate it?

I really don't seem to get any oedema. I did after DS but that was because I had been in bed so long.

Lol at you guys- DH is getting the snip, too. They know that's the only way they can say a definitive 'no more!' to us, don't they!!

Pinkyminkee · 21/09/2008 22:15

Ahh I see- was wondering if I had mised anothe rperson on here!

Pinkyminkee · 21/09/2008 22:19

Oblomov are you sure you want to be sterrilzed? I looked into it, but I was concerned I would be a bit old. You are a bit younger than me, tho'.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/09/2008 23:04

My DSis was sterilised and she has had no end of trouble with her periods being heavy and irregular and then every two and a half weeks, bleeding for up to 10 days. All tests have come back normal. she takes all sorts of herbal medicines and it has gotten better, but probably because she is now peri-menopausal. She is convinced it's all connected with her sterilisation op, although the docs say just coincidence.

sorry to hear about the oedema Obs . My feet and ankles/lower legs and hands were bad with DD and didn't go down until four weeks after DD was born and it was really uncomfortable. My feet were bad the other night, but no recurrence so far.

Is there anything they can do? Get DH to give you a lymphatic drainage massage in the meantime....PN MW showed DH how to do it and ordered him to massage my feet/legs four times a day...it was bliss

Pinkyminkee · 22/09/2008 00:43

Lacks, that is very sad for you dsis.
Women in my family have been plagued by menstrual problems (my sis is having a hysterectomy as result- she has had enough ).
When I told some friends I was considering getting sterilized during my elcs for DD they said it might be a bad idea given my age as it has been known to bring on early menopause, but I have yet to find any clear medical info on this.
But given my family's history I didn't want to risk it. Just as well, I wouldn't be PG now, but that's why DH is getting the snip. I can't take the pill because it plays havoc with my hormones.

Oblomov · 22/09/2008 07:46

Very intersting Pinkee. No, I am only 2 yrs younger than you. But am happy to have sterilisation done. Ds has had lots of ops over the years - diverticulitus etc, and wants no more. I am hoping that I will not have heavier periods. But I know it is a risk.
Re the swelling, I did have this with ds. Very uncomfortable. But MW's or Prof didn't seem concerned from a medical point of view. Didn't even know there was a name for it. Just asumed thta lots of pg ladies got very bad sweliing at end. It is called Oedema, you say ?
And I was hoping that you were going to tell ME if there is anything I can do, at all. Should I be putting my feet up more ? Drinking more water ? I am SURE I did that last time, but it got no better. But I am prepared to give it a go.

So it becomes clear, who Missygoo is. That is a shame. Becasue I really liked the name 'twinkling'. Twinkling you doughnut, why did you tell someone ?

vbab78 · 22/09/2008 09:07

hanaflower - Glad the house warming went ok and you are now warmed.

merrrymarigold - Your DH volunteered for the snip?! My DH whenever I mention it gives me this horrible no chance in hell look followed by "no chance". I think DH friends have put the fear into him about it and their wives want them to have the snip too. Yet they wouldn't think twice about their wives being sterilised!

ceebee - My DS loves Brum when it is on. DS doesn't watch TV often but if Brum or Come Outside are on he seems to get hypmotised. We always have a dance to the end of Brum . DS and his daft mummy.

obs - Hugs. Hope your legs are better this morning.

vbab78 · 22/09/2008 09:29

34 weeks but still not organised or nested .

Feel rubbish due to Right leg "walking like a monster" when going from sat to stood/walking which is uncomfortable but not painful and wears off once legs mobile to yesterday tea onwards pain in my right public bone which hurt when I stood up or moved in bed and didn't "wear off". From looking into things seems like my symptoms are more like PGP than SPD as one sided, started in buttock like area, and the pain aspect only just started and so on. The PGP link also says may be as a result of baby's head engaging! Seeing midwife on Thursday for check up so will see. At last appointment was told baby was head down but I think that has changed a couple of times.

On a good note though I seem to have woken up pain free but feel s**tty as a result of the pain yesterday and during the night.

ALSO DH got his "chores" done finally and cut all our grass and put 2 coats of pain on the nursery walls ! He admitted that he got himself in a rutt about getting on with stuff.

I've just now got to crack on with the undercoating and glossing in the next two morns while DS at nursery and before the carpet comes probably (hopefully) at the end of the week. We can then finally get the nursery furniture moved back to nursery from DS room, buy DS some big boy room furniture and get organised! Even if I still have the stress of a half ripped out living room and bad electrics in the living room and kitchen.

Did a sort of planner for the house DIY stuff and realised just doing the basics, just moved back into living room no new furniture etc, if ALL goes to plan I will be 39 weeks when it is done .
