Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
chefswife · 10/11/2008 21:03

i've finally signed up for at home pre-natal class, which turns out to cost significantly less to the ones offered by a midwife group at the hospital. sorry, but i just can't imagine sitting through a series of group sessions with other pregnant couples. just not me. i've also signed DH and i up to accupressure course for him to learn where to press on me during birthing. sounds fantastic. met someone who did it for their second and she had a better time delivering. feels like things are moving forward, thinking of that final stage is starting to pre-occupy me. in a good way. i just can't wait to see what the little turnip will look like.

qumps · 10/11/2008 21:14

just had to write about the horrendous evening i have had as can laugh abut it now. decided to get in bath with ds. afetr about 5 minutes he started straining and did a massive poo in the bath! i flew out and grabbed him as he was crying no out. wrapped him in a towel where he continued to poo. then spent next 5 minutes with me catch poo with baby wipes while he lay on the changing table and cried. finally got him dressed and came downstairs to watch night garden. thought i can still smell poo and looked down and my dressing gown was covered....
to top it off my boobs are leaking. seriously at 32 weeks is that normal????
nct are normally really good and i am sure they will let you make up your classes with another group. just use the pregnancy hormones and cry!

Spink · 10/11/2008 21:39

qumps - how very odd - my ds has been pooing in the bath this evening too! I also smell of the brown stuff, all over my work troos.. . must remember not to wear those tomorrow.

I'm not leaking but have been getting let down sensations when near crying babies for the last week or so.. had forgotten about those!

just wanted to share as we seem to have some sort of odd bodily-fluid type connection tonight!
will catch up with the rest of the thread later - hiya everyone

Qumps and Spink- Maybe you are leaking as its not first time round for you guys? just an idea, as i havent had any leakages to date!!

Spink- what is a let down sensation???? Interesting....

Got hold of NCT woman last night who was REALLY nice and said yes their house is virtually impossible to find at night, even if you know the area.... Great i think... perhaps they could have TOLD me that before i spent forever looking for it & getting upset and frustrated that i couldnt find it. Anyway shes told me exactly where it is, and i'm going to vet it out in the daylight one day this week so i can be SURE to find it next week!

Off to mama and papas this morning to return my mobile with the upside down writing, and no doubt buy Beanie a few bits & bobs. Our moses basket arrived yesterday & is soooooooo cute!!!

Periwink · 11/11/2008 13:59

Hi ladies - just caught up on the news - wow quite a lot going on .... couple of floater stories (qumps and Spink) - yuck, you gotta laugh! Had midwife appointment this morning was 20 mninutes late - seems to be the norm these days, late for everything!

I have been feeling super emotional the past couple of days and have been very tearful. Today as I was driving back from midwife appointment I saw this group of school kids surrounding a war memorial for the one minute silence in rememberance of those that served in WW1 and I just cried my eyes out - how ridiculous! Also woke up this morning very emotional and cried my eyes out whilst havign a shower - pityful women - really I need to pull myself together, anyone else feeling this emotional?

Cannot believe I have 7 weeks and 5 days to go before baby is due - crikey where did the time go. I am also not sleeping and am wide awake by 2pm each morning. Also finding it virtually impossible to survive the day without a nap of at least 1 hour!!!!!

Rrrayray - how frustrating about being able to find NCT class. I am off to Mamas and Papas today too - to find a suitable changing table.

I have been getting a few things together for my hospital bag.

Please explain let down sensations?????? First baby on the way here so not sure what this is?

givethedogabone - thanks for the explanation!

LenniEd · 11/11/2008 17:23

Hi all... not more bath poo-ers DD did most of hers in the bath for a while when she was a babe - even if I bathed her at different times of day. Used to keep a sieve handy

Freezing here - can't get warm so have lit a massive fire, DH gave me a look when he got in, think I have reached the irrational phase

Also tired suddenly, felt ok up to now but lost all my energy this week. Oh well, guess I am pregnant...

Spink · 11/11/2008 19:08

hello, no poo in the bath today - hurrah!! qumps - I did plan to go back to the bathroom, fish the poo out and clean up once ds was tucked up in bed, but I kind of got tied up in tidying up and cooking so dh got to do the poo honours in our house!! ha ha!!!

periwink & ray - like gtdab says, it is an odd tingly feeling you get just before the milk starts flowing, mine is a bit more stabby than butterfly-y, not painful but not all that nice... gtdab, I didn't get afterpains with ds but sounds like that is often the way with 1st ones. Something new and exciting to look forward to then

booksgalore lol I spat my tea at the computer screen - so with you on the ladyforest. Mind you, could be a ladyjungle for all I know, been a while since I could see it...

fourlittlefeet You ok? hope you're feeling a bit less tired. and what do you mean, 250 posts to go? that'll only take another couple of days to polish off

tink you've inspired me to be a bit more organised. I've actually ordered some things online for ds's Christmas pressies and for the new baby. Hopefully we've got most of the practical stuff from last time, so it is just pretty things. Got a lovely music box with penguins on it. Ds has got a cow-print wheelybug! and I ordered some hospital bag goodies (large pants I will throw away and stacks of maternity pads) - lucky me!!!

fourlittlefeet · 11/11/2008 21:33

Evening all! Am feeling better, thanks Lenni, think I wasn't eating enough (chuckle emoticon).

This baby is so active that I keep wincing. Feels like I'm being flicked really hard from the inside and my ribs feel bruised! I know from last time that this stage doesn't last long and then it turns into a squirming pushing bump, which is just as odd!

I too have been pooed on in the bath. New born squirty poo. Brown bath, no sieve necessary. Very speedy shower only action. Just so you know, ladies.

My let down sensations were definitely like pins and needles in the nipples, followed swiftly by cold breasts as the milk soaked through my t-shirt .

rrrayray · 12/11/2008 01:50

periwink- i too have been feeling more emmoitional the past few days and crying easily too!

Givedogbone/fourlittlefeet - Thanks for the let down description, all sorts of new things us firs timers don't know.

Funny you all talking about lady jungles, i had some girlfriends over this evening and we were talking about waxing Etc. I don't know what i plan to do with my lady jungle, as last time i went for a wax my lady said that this time she wont be able to get much off, as she wont be able to pull the skin taught enough, as would mean crushing bump. So think will just have her neaten what she can, and the rest, well... We'll see!

Beanie has been feeling SO low recently, but given she is head down i'm not too surprised i guess. Asked my Midwife if my Downstairs lady bits being rather puffy was normal & she assured me it is. But tonight whilst rotating my hips like a hoola woman (seems to feel Good, think maybe makes some more space) i started freaking out as i felt a bit "damp" downstairs... But when i went to the toilet all was OK. I think i just needed the toilet/had some heavier discharge. Have to say the heavy discharge of earlier pregnancy seems to have subsided, that is, apart from today!!!

Returned mobile & exchanged for one where the writing ISNT upside down today @ mamas and papas... They have ALOT of stuff on 20 + % Sale at the moment. Then went to mothercare, ended up buying two lovely nursing bras... my maternity ones were getting a little small, but i bought them at 8 weeks gone, so not reall surprising!! And finally Toys R us for my friend - although didn't buy anyting there.

Right, off to sleep. not even sure how i'm awake, its almost 2am, and the girls having come over about 7pm, only just left. Had a lovely gossipy night, chilled and Played Buzz...Don't know if any of you have it- but its really GREAT fun!!

gosh i'm going to be TIRED tomo!

tinkisexcitedabouthavingababy · 12/11/2008 08:34

moosemama · 12/11/2008 11:23

Morning,

Just sat down for first time this morning!

Both boys off school now! DS1 very green, slight temp, says feels sick and keeps grabbing his tummy and curling up.

Took DS2 to eye appointment at hospital yesterday as he kept telling me and his teachers that he sees better without his glasses, which is surprising as in February they said he had severely impaired eyesight in his left eye.

Optician couldn't get a reading off his left eye as it wouldn't respond normally to light . Eventually, after ages in a dark room with lots of lenses they did change his prescription, but only slightly (was a bit too strong apparently). Then he was whisked off to see the consultant who diagnosed a viral eye infecion in both eyes, which if left untreated could cause permanent corneal damage. Unfortunately, its practically asymptomatic, just a bit of watery eyes and some itching. (He hadn't complained of anything but his glasses not working.) Am pretty cross with the hospital as they failed to call him back for his routine check (he suffers badly with chalazions), we called to book one and they said they would send a letter out within 7 days, but of course they didn't. We called them back and it has taken a month since we first called them to get an appointment so if he's had it all that time and it does cause problems with his sight I will be furious.

He is now on 3 types of eye drops 4 times a day for two weeks and has to have fake tear drops put in as his eyes aren't producing enough tears themselves. Its a nightmare as its nigh on impossible to get the drops in, lots of fighting, kicking and crying. Bunny has them first of course, but that doesn't seem to help much now he's older.

Took him to the optician to get new glasses, then to the toy shop for a treat as he has been so brave. (Didn't kick or fight one doctor, nurse or optician despite having to have 3 different types of drops at the hospital - apparently he saves that for me and Daddy!) Had to make a sharp exit from the toy shop though as was really close to fainting. I think I only got out by sheer determination, everything went silver and black and all the sounds seemed a hundred miles away! Managed to get outside and collapse into a chair someone had left outside! Recovered enough to go back in for 2 mins to buy his treat but then had to be rescued by Mum rather than catching the bus home.

Poor little thing, he's got to go back in a fortnight, plus see the dentist every seven days until they decide to extract his tooth!

Rapidly running out of ideas for soft food suitable for vegetarian 4 year old! So far have had, home made vegetable soup, courgette, spinach and grated carrot risotto, tomato soup, lots of porridge, home made banana milk shakes and smoothies, yoghurts and jelly (although trying to lean off on sweet stuff for obvious reasons). Might try him on cheese and potato pie tonight, but he may have to be on soft stuff for another week and I think his diet will be somewhat repetetive by then!

Am completely exhausted with really painful SPD today and the house looks like a bombs hit it!

Sorry to be all me me me! I just want this week to end, its been horrible from start to finish so far. The only positive thing is that I have ordered a couple of the boys Christmas presents - oh and I discovered where to buy Crazy Bones for DS1!

Periwink · 12/11/2008 12:05

Spink - thanks, something new - not sure how exciting I will find it though, this pregnancy thing sure is a whole new world!

Rrrayray - good to know I am not alone in my emotional state, although today am felling back to normal, but the day is still young! Also having discharge (charming i know!)

I finally slept through the night without having to wake up to go to the toilet - woke up this morning surprised I had not wet the bed.

Moosemamma - you need to rest up and have a little bit of time to yourself!!! Not sure how you ladies with kids already cope with pregnancy?

Better get on and do some work now.

qumps · 12/11/2008 12:35

oh dear its all going pear shaped. the last few weeks really do feel like forever don't they? i have no idea how baby will stay in for 7 more as its bloody massive already.
moosemama you poor poor thing. that sounds like a proper epic day. not nice to see your little ones in pain but you sound like you have the patience of a saint too.
rayray lucky you all the shopping. was planning to do lots in the sales but not sure if will be cutting it too fine to c section? still i do seem to develop super strength when it comes to shopping! can't believe you satyed up so late. i have a girls night on sat involving x factor and pizza and can't wait. not heard of buzz. is it a good one for family christmas with inlaws?
givethedogabone nothing like a snuggle and a bit of peppa pig. i love daddy pig! find myself saying to dh oh daddy you are so silly!
periwink i have days when anything sets me off too.
at a friends for a few days and having such a lovely time but ds so excited he woke at 430 talking. took him into bed with me as didn't want to wake other kids and he didn't go back to sleep until after 6. darling godson woke me at 7 so i know its bad but on 3rd cup of tea. already planned trip to maccie ds tonight for tea....

tinkisexcitedabouthavingababy · 12/11/2008 13:08

fourlittlefeet · 12/11/2008 13:29

poor you moose; thats pretty bad!

Ideas for soft food for a veggie 4 year old... omelettes/frittatas, veg curry and couscous, baked beans and mash, fish pie (if he eats fish, otherwise with lentil option underneath), baked spuds with cheese and hummous.

puddings; banana custard, fruit fools, baked bananas with honey, semolina, rice pudding.

feeling hungry now

otherwise am grumpy as hell!

HeathersMummy · 12/11/2008 13:36

Sorry, not been on for ages! Just catching up on everyone's news - it's been so busy .
I've had a bit of a burst of energy and have decided to get the house in order, if it's not tied down, it's been cleaned to within an inch of it's life. DH is worried that I seem to be nesting really early this time as I've still got 7 weeks to go . Feeling really satisfied now though, and it should be relatively easy to keep the housework up to date when I'm feeling too big to move!
Had hospital visit this week and have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I was really down about it on Monday, but what will be will be. I've to take bloods 4 times a day before meals and a bedtime until Monday coming then I've got another trip to the hospital for the consultant to "decide on my birth plan" . It seems they'll probably want to either induce me or give me a section at 38 weeks so the baby doesn't get too big. Not the best news in the world, but it does mean that the baby will be here before Christmas . Dietician tried to offer advice on what to cut out/change in diet to lower blood sugar, but apparently my diet is really quite good already so I may struggle to control my sugars through diet alone . Doing my best though, but missing the odd bit of chocolate already. Sorry ladies, moan over.
Off to scour the internet for Christmas pressie ideas

Thanks all for the sympathies.

Booksgalore, sorry, didn't mean to scare you, I don't think what DS2 has is dangerous to most people. Its more a problem for him as he already has existing eye conditions.

fourlittlefeet, thanks for the food ideas, might try some of them next week but it literally has to be liquid (or as DS2 puts it, suckable) for him to be able to get it down at the moment. He just had a proper tantrum because I wouldn't let him have tomato soup for tea as well as lunch!

Lunch time drops were horrendous, he got so upset, really screaming and distressed, the neighbours must've thought we were killing him. I had to go and hide in the toilet for a cry myself after he'd calmed down and let me comfort him.

Cheered myself up a little bit this afternoon by ordering most of the boys Christmas presents online, just little bits and stocking fillers left to get now so am feeling slightly more in control. Also feeling quite pleased with myself for finding all of this years 'most popular' toys which DS1 had asked for and I'd obviously left too late to order. Got free delivery on everything too.

Heathersmummy, sorry to hear about the GD diagnosis, at least they are on top of it though. Did you have any symptoms or did they pick it up via bloods?
