liznay - I hope your family comments are said in jest, my husband called me a Telly Tubby the other day but I know he was joking so laughed along with him ..... for now!

tinkisinthe3rdtrimester · 29/10/2008 11:45

mm - i went for the silk ones i have bought 3 of one sort of silk which come with medium flow teats,3 of newborm teat ones and 2 of the fast.
had the anti colic ones with dd they were a nightmare could never get bottom bit screwed back on properley so milk would leak everywhere.

Periwink · 29/10/2008 11:59

I have also gained one and a half stone.... midwife says this is perfect for my stage of pregnancy (30 weeks + 4). The thing to remember that our bodies are all so different and the advise on weight gain in pregnancy books is just a guideline.

moosemama · 29/10/2008 12:26

Tink, I had heard the anti-colic ones have a tendency to leak, so will give them a miss methinks. If this one gets colic she will be taken straight to the osteopath. Worked wonders with DS2 - stopped it almost overnight.

I have gained just over a stone (lost a stone to start with though, so am really just back where I started).

I think we are supposed to be gaining more now aren't we as the baby is laying down fat stores? I read somewhere we can gain between half and pound and a pound and a half a week, around half a pound of which will be the baby.

Am actually really shocked I haven't put on more as I put on several stones with DS2.

Mind you despite this and the fact everyone seems keeps telling me I have a ahem 'compact' bump, mw still measured the fundal height as almost on my top scale and gave me a panic about having a big baby.

I don't think we should be worrying about weight, its so individual and relates to weight prior to conception, metabolism, activity levels even what size placenta there is. Have just read on the net that one study suggested that weighing mothers to be during pregnancy resulted in an increase in pre-term delivery and growth retarded babies. Which is why many health authorities (mine included) no longer weigh at mw appointments.

Good Afternoon Ladies.

I have 9 weeks to go, just 9 weeks....... oh bum. Have to decorate living room and nursery buy all the babies stuff and get sorted for christmas. How on earth does anyone else do it!!!! All of you ladies that already have children I'm just in awe.

My mat leave is due to start on the 15th Dec. but have reduced my days down to 4 a week by using up some holiday and as I'm here by 8 I'll be leaving by 4.30. OH getting very cross as the last couple of weeks I've haven't been leaving the office till 6.30 and wondering why I'm so tired in the evenings! I was so determined to work up to the last minute but I don't think I'll make it.

I hope all you ladies are keeping warm and snuggly. My OH has gotten a cold and usually I'd be so sympathtic but as I can't take anything for one I'm dreading getting it. I wouldn't even give him a kiss goodbye this morning. Poor Lamb.

MissHairspray · 29/10/2008 13:11

Hi everyone
I'm a bit fed up with the big bump comments too, went to get fitted for a bra at m&s two weeks ago and was asked if it was nursing bras I was after - lady looked a bit suprised when I said I still had 12 weeks left. I am trying not to worry though and haven't weighed myself for about 7 weeks (when I had put on 17lbs). It just annoys me that people think it is now totally acceptable to comment on my appearance.
I've got 6 weeks left at work but so much to do so it will probably go quite fast. I'm looking foward to slobbing out watching all of the xmas movies on TV but I am starting to get pretty scared now at the prospect of actually having a baby in the very near future.
Sorry to hear about all the spots

hello everyone,
it has been such a long time since I posted here and caught up with you all, I almost didn't come back - ah pregnancy weirdness, as if any of you would mind (argh you don't do you???)

I am going to catch up on the whole thread a bit later, ds is due to wake up from his nap any second. I've skimmed over the last bits on bump sizes - I'm measuring about right for dates, but oddly, feel like it is smaller than last time. DH assures me that it is anything but small. And I keep bumping my belly into things so I think there is something strange in my brain when it comes to bump size perception..

ANywayy, I best go, I can hear the little one squirming. sending warm bump vibes to you all and hopefully catch up later
xx

spink, i'm going to go out on a limb and say nobody minds... i am also having difficulty understanding my bump on a spatial basis - keep trying to fit through normal person sized spaces, particularly getting on and off buses, and whacking people with my bump....

moosemama · 29/10/2008 17:56

I got stuck in the 'baby's room' doorway this morning trying to squeeze past the toybox that's being stored in the doorway! [hbush]

moosemama · 29/10/2008 17:57

!!! That's better!

stripeywoollenhat · 29/10/2008 18:30

it's really weird, isn't it, simultaneously feeling absolutely enormous AND thinking you are smaller than you are...

Spink · 29/10/2008 18:41

yesterday I was on the sofa watching tv, lying on my back, and I looked down and thought "I really COULD just have eaten a large pie". I am SURE I was bigger than this last time!!! dh is shaking his head at me...

OP posts:
moosemama · 29/10/2008 18:51

I nearly had my nephew (aged 8) convinced that I had just eaten too many pies at the weekend.

"I'd have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for 'my' pesky kids!"

Spink · 29/10/2008 19:15

moosemama - on a slightly different topic - you're planning to have a homebirth aren't you? Have you started to put any stuff together for it?
any other homebirthers getting their kit sorted? I have been looking at birthing pools on ebay but that is about it... oh, and we went to a homebirth evening where we realised that we really needed to sort proper childcare out for ds for when I'm in labour, and not just hope it'll work out

OP posts:
LenniEd · 29/10/2008 19:51

at homebirths

Oh well, if baby doesn't turn will be looking at an early c/s anyhow.

Nice to hear from you Spink, glad everything ok except for the "pregnancy wierdness", yep got that here too

And whoever was saying about absentmindedness... I too ordered my Tesco shop to arrive this morning, and had to stop in at Tesco on my way out today to get the things I had forgotten. Oh well, at least I didn't have to drag DD round for a full shop whilst pleading with her not to put everything in the store in the trolley, and then deal with an 'exhausted and fed up' tantrum at the checkout followed by lugging all the heavy bags indoor - thank goodness for the internet

Upwind · 29/10/2008 19:55

Oooh LenniEd, is your baby breech too? We do still have time and they will probably turn, but yes, every day my baby doesn't the odds of a c-section get a little bit higher...

People are always commenting on how small I am. I know that my fundal height has been very low all the way along (at least since an evil midwife scared me about it at 17 weeks) and breech babies should give higher fundal heights, they really hit a nerve commenting about my bump and it makes me

LenniEd · 29/10/2008 20:17

This one is transverse Upwind - has been since 20week scan and at every mw appointment so not looking like shifting yet, but there is still hope....

Desperately don't want a c/s, esp since have a 2yo to look after and live 3 miles away from the nearest village, 1 mile away from my nearest neighbour and 15 miles away from any shops so not being able to drive for a while would be a major issue. DD and I would both be going stir crazy after 4-6 weeks stuck in isolation!

fourlittlefeet · 29/10/2008 21:28

just checking in then off to catch up

moosemama · 29/10/2008 21:37

Spink, yep am hoping for a home birth. Spent ages researching different pools then lost all my bookmarks on the laptop and now need to do it all over again!

Really want one that's got a filter and heater to make life easier and was thinking of hiring as will be last DC. A bit at the prices though. Will really depend on whether or not we have the funds available.

this site has a lot of useful information, including lists of equipment you will need etc.

My midwife said something about dropping a homebirthing pack off at around 37 weeks I think, but really need to ask her if there's anything I should be doing.

Spink · 29/10/2008 21:39

ooh interesting LenniEd & Upwind that you know positions of baby - at my mw appt last week when I asked what my bean was up to, she said the policy locally is to not check until my next appt - at 31 weeks I think? do other people know too?

OP posts:
Spink · 29/10/2008 21:44

moosemama, oh my god yes at the prices of the proper ones with heaters - let me know if you find any reasonably priced ones. Our plan so far - we've got a combi boiler so dh assures me that we have a limitless supply of hot water... so we'll have a hose to top up the pool with hot and just buckets to get the cooler stuff out!

tinkisinthe3rdtrimester · 30/10/2008 08:49

morning
i am 29 weeks today time is flying buy nearly nov already

all these homebirths sound interesting

i am hoping to give birth in local birthing centre a waterbirth tried last time with dd had to go by ambulance to hospital

Upwind · 30/10/2008 10:32

Spink, I only know, as I had a scan on Monday because my baby had stopped moving much. It is breech and facing backwards with legs tucked up, with its back cushioned by my anterior placenta.

If I'd thought about it I'd have known my baby was breech, the movements I do feel tend to be very low down. The baby especially likes to interfere with my bladder when I least expect it and then have to dash to the nearest toilet!

MsSparkle · 30/10/2008 14:13

Afternoon,

Some of you are braver than i am, i couldn't even consider a home birth!

I feel like i am turning into a rabbit as i sit here munching on a whole raw carrot!

Just made a very rich chocolate cake with even richer chocolate icing!
