Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:

weasel sorry...cant think of another way to abbreviate your new name!!!! So jealous of all your borrowed stuff...DPs sister had just got rid of all her baby stuff as youngest is now 3...if only I had gotten up the duff earlier!! Oh well!

Is anyone else thinking about starting baby shopping in ernest soon? I am struggling to control myself!

Millie26 · 13/10/2008 12:27

Hello! Just thought I'd come on quickly in my lunch break.

Totally empathising with both cold and sex situations. Have had horrible cold for four days now and raging headache, so annoying. Definitely no sex for the past few days - dp made a joke about how we'd missed out on our weekend slots and I realised that I have been having sympathy sex twice a week on Saturday and Sunday afternoons since week 7 - bad!

It's his birthday tomorrow so I'll have to pull it together somehow I think...Staying up past 9 is a real struggle though!

I wanted to buy him something daddy related as this is our first baby - left it a bit late now I guess but I dont suppose anyone has any nice ideas?

All the father to be books make it sound horrendous and I dont want to put him off!

Get well vibes to all you fellow ill mums.

xx

Slickbird · 13/10/2008 12:30

Ana - Stick to your guns over the pram - all babies want to see in the first few months is their mummy's face - they rarely take their eyes off you! You can get ones that do both, but in my opinion - you're right. I can't post prop as at work.

Later ladies...

corgikelly · 13/10/2008 12:37

Hello everyone - been out of town for a week and just getting caught up on the news. Absolutely delighted for meep and Mandy!

I had my 17-week visit with the midwife this morning; no scan (have to wait until the big 'un at 22 weeks), but did hear Cletus the Fetus' heart thumping away at 150 bpm.

I've also put on 2 kilos since my 9 week visit; no wonder I feel fluffy around the middle! (Unlike you ladies who are eagerly anticipating your bumps, I'm feeling conflicted about the whole thing, and had hoped to take my mum's route - she didn't show until about 6 months!)

That said, I didn't have the heart to tell the midwife I was pretty sure the 2kg both date from this weekend...I was in Rome all last week on business, took Friday off and my DP came down to join me for the weekend. I have eaten more stuffed courgette blossoms in the past 72 hours than even I would have believed possible. Ahhhhhhh...

I think maternity clothes may be in my near future pasta and pizza aside, I've noticed a definite thickening in the past week. I had a moment of panic Saturday before last when packing for my trip all of my suits looked like rubbish! Hurrah for wrap dresses...

corgikelly · 13/10/2008 12:43

Just to weigh in on the sex thing - I fondly remember believing that I wouldn't be someone whose sex drive was negatively affected by pregnancy. I love sex and fully planned to be going at it right up until my due date.

Hah bloody hah. It's like the whole concept vanished from my worldview at around 10 weeks. I just CANNOT be bothered! Poor DP...

Unrelated note: Looking for wardrobe advice! I have a black tie wedding to attend when I'll be about six months along. Do we think black tie means floor-length? Or could I get away with cocktail-length? And what on earth would be flattering to a mini-hippo? All suggestions welcome...

jollyjoanne · 13/10/2008 13:21

OMG It has just taken me an hour of my lunch break to catch up on all the gossip - I've been away for 1 week (now a whole year older and 1 year more married). Congratulations to those who have had some good news - meep, mandy and twocute. Hello to all those newbys. And big hugs to all those feeling down and / or poorly and / or putting up with rubbish service from their midwives /hospitals etc.

I am off for my 20 week scan tomorrow so very excited (although I'm actually only 19 weeks - but high risk so this is acutally the 3rd scan).

Being pregnant hasn't made much difference to the way I feel about much, including sex. Although I will agree that I am managing to eat for an entire rugby team at the moment. And I am incredibly jealous of those who are still not showing, this is my first baby so no excuses really - but I definitely look pregnant and March seems such a long way off.

Slickbird · 13/10/2008 14:51

Still not got time to comment on the sex subject -can't believe how many of you are still up for it!

Corgi - I recommend going cocktail length as last year I bought a floor length dress whilst preggars and I looked like a walking tent. Not good.

Got to go get DD1 now....

Later again ladies!

Wheelybug · 13/10/2008 15:01

Afternoon !

I'm with slickbird on the cocktail dress Corgi. Probably easier to find too!

Anyone else suffering from leg cramps at night ? I did a bit with dd and I had a really painful one last night - jumped out of bed yelling much to DH's shock. I never found anyhting that helped last time but a quick search on MN suggests tonic before bed and more calcium generally (and am a bit crap on calcium intake although I try).

babyinbelly · 13/10/2008 15:26

I am having really bad pain either side of my belly. Think it is having a growth spurt! Go to dog training classes on a monday morning where I am expected to run around. No chance! I walked everywhere stopping constanly clutching my poor sides.

OH MY GOD!!! I MUST NOT SHOW MY HUSBAND THIS THREAD!!! I cannot believe how some of you have 'reduced' your sexual activity to two - three times a week! I am officially crap! . Even when I'm not pregnant because we have two other kids and work I just don't have the energy and if we manage once every two weeks we are doing well. Oh the shame. Mind you, it was a 'birthday sh*g' that got us into this trouble I'm in now.....

I'm away to greet into a cup of tea. He'll be off with a younger model at this rate...

twocutedarlings · 13/10/2008 16:15

slickbird Sorry LOL but PMSL at your last post .

Our sex Life is a bit low at the moment, for the last couple of weeks i keep getting really sore hips, in my pupic bone please! please! someone tell me that this aint SPD ???? i never had anything like this with my girls!!

Slickbird · 13/10/2008 16:21

TWOCUTE - Sorry, that's SPD. I've got a sore f*nny bone (that's not funny bone btw!) and painful hips too. I had it with both my other two. Although so far, good days, bad days. The best advice I can give is cut down on how much walking and standing you do. And er...try and keep your legs together more. (What I mean is, swivel your legs together when you are getting out of a car or out of bed, that sort of thing) No, no joke, that's one of my reasons for less sex!

Shame about the 'less walking'though as it's a good form of exercise but I def. def. am worse when I've walked too much. Sorry.

emma2617 · 13/10/2008 16:42

slickbird dont worry about your DH, Ive only been with DP for just over 2 years and we were seriously rampant! Still in the honeymoon period I suppose...but as soon as the tiredness set in at about week 2 of pregnancy that was it! I am just totally not interested now...i think he has had a bit of a shock to the system!

As I look at ti...its just tough!! If he has to carry round heavy balls for 9 months then tough...I have to carry round another human being...and then squeeze it out of my fanjo, possibly grazing or even tearing myself and maybe even pooing myself infront of a roomful of people!! So a few months without sex is the least he can do!!! Sorry...can you tell I have said that to him on a number of occasions?!?!

Slickbird · 13/10/2008 17:35

Actually, that's a point. We have been together for 11 and a half years! (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

meep · 13/10/2008 19:39

Slickbird - i am with you - though ot was my "birthday sh*g" that got us into trouble and I seem to remeber it being an anniversary one that got us dd!!!!

Wheelybug - bananas and milk for cramps. If I got one I would get up and eat a banana and it seemed to work. From then on it was a banana and a glass of milk before bed time and the cramps stopped.

I think my huge appetite is on the decline and I can feel the heartburn starting - ugh. I remeber thinking it was so cruel that the only thing you could really enjoy when pregnant was food, but you couldn't eat it because of the heartburn. Gaviscon here I come!

Wheelybug · 13/10/2008 19:48

Thanks for the cramp tips - I find jumping out of bed and yelling does the trick . I have heard that about bananas Meep - the trouble is I am allergic to them which is a bit of a pain. WIll try the milk though.

I too am getting heartburn - I had my very first glass of wine at the weekend, I had been looking forward to it for ages, had bought a nice bottle, had my nearest and dearest friends to stay and guess what ? It tasted horrid. Really acidic and gave me hearburn. Grrrrrrr. Funnily enough though we went to see DH's consultant today and DH is desperate for a glass of wine and I haven't been 'allowing' him to have one which I told the consultant as 'I couldn't have one' and he looked at me all shocked and said - of course you can, my wife did and I have 2 healthy children. He then encouraged DH to have a glass so think he may be a man who likes his wine .

livismum · 13/10/2008 20:05

Hi guys just checking in! All ok here expanding rapidly, people are telling me i 'look' pg!

Had 17wk appt last week still have massive bruise from mw taking screening bloods grrr but heard the heart beat which was lovely 152bpm exactly the same as DD was!

Have 20wk scan in 2 weeks yay, still debating on whether to ask what flavour, only thing making us think we might is DD being convinced its a girl, she keeps whispering to my belly and saying in a funny high pitched voice as if the baby "I'm a girl and my names julie!" no idea where that came from but its catching on with friends and family asking me how julie is!!

Going on a sun hol next week be nice to get away as started on an extension to our bungalow last week and there is mud getting everywhere

lolianja · 13/10/2008 20:06

Hello folks, get well vibes to all the ill ladies out there. I know the feeling, only just recovered from a nasty cold. Spent several nights up from dusk 'til dawn unable to breathe through my nose. Ugh. Awful.

Am officially twenty weeks today! Still flat-bellied though, which sounds like a good thing but is actually nothing but an annoyance. Still, the grass is always greener etc.

Slickbird · 13/10/2008 21:05

Lolianja! Congrats yourself on reaching the halfway mark! I can't believe your still flat bellied - you must have great muscles - I look full term already (3rd time round)

Boobz · 14/10/2008 09:04

I reckon at least 75% of my bump is pizza and curry. Only 25% uterus and baby.

babyinbelly · 14/10/2008 09:48

I am very obviously pg now. People look at me and say you haven't got a bump and then I turn to the side and they're like wow maybe you have!

Felt first proper kick in the ribs last night. Probably a bit confused cos my belly is normally against dp back at night and it was first night ever without him last night!

I am getting this cold that is going round. Sore throat this morning. Hope I don't get too much worse.

Boobz · 14/10/2008 10:31

So for those people who know what baby movements feel like at 17 / 18 weeks, can you describe it to me? I can't see it moving or anything, and haven't felt a prod / kick / jab or anything like that, but did have this weird sensation last night when I was trying to fall asleep. It wasn't painful but it wasn't too comfortable either... it kind of felt like my inside of my tummy was a flannel and someone was wringing it out a bit. Is that growing pains? Or was that the baby moving around?

Actually, I'm looking at my naked belly now, and it does seem to be moving a bit... but more like my heart is beating in it rather than anything else.

Any ideas?

Boobz · 14/10/2008 10:35

God if you could all see me now, sitting at my computer in my husband's boxer shorts and my lifted up t-shirt, holding my breath and prodding my bump to see if I can get a reaction - staring intently for a sign.

I work from home by the way - I know that would be even weirder in an office.

LaMonsterWeaselwolf · 14/10/2008 11:08

ha ha ha

I know what you mean about heartbeat - my DC seems to be really close to the surface and I can feel my heart beat really strongly through my fingers on my belly and it gets in the way of being able to feel him IYSWIM... Having said that, I think the wringing could have been movement - turning over?? It doesn't sound like growing pains to me.

So what does this leg cramp feel like then? I might have had that last night but assumed it was something else - I quite often have severe sharp pains on the bottom of my feet that feel like the muscles there have flicked ever so slightly out of place and that doesn't stop hurting until it's pushed back in (and then aches for a day or so afterwards) Just assumed I had rubbish muscles/ligaments there!! But had the same thing in the calf of my leg last night and woke DP up jumping out of bed to try and fix it. Please tell me this isn't going to get more regular with pregnancy?? It's insanely painful...
