munki - I have been getting that sensation too...not sure what it is. I did have contractions last time, but nothing like the bh and cramps etc I have been getting this time round.

Maybe we are busy dilating without knowing???????

munki - I am salavating at the description of the banana split pie! It would be very much appeciated if you could post the recipe

Also, I think the sensations you are feeling could be the baby putting pressure on your cervix - a good sign. When you feel them sit in a position that opens your cervix, this might help the baby on its way down.

Becaroo - good luck for today.

becaroo · 22/09/2008 11:10

Thanks ladies. Off now to eat things I shouldnt

MunkiMom · 22/09/2008 11:10

bec i reckon its what it is. the body working on dilation. i hope all goes well at the hosp today. ((forgive me but i can't recall...is it for internal/possible sweep/possible induction?)) i have that this wendesay....i'm starting to get scared!

omgaww, my mother (whos in another country, and 6 hours earlier))just phoned...any baby yet?
((she only just asked last night before i went to bed...))

:::sigh::: i think we'll just have to accept that even though we may be fed up with it, this is the point of our pregnancies when everyone else gets reallly really excited about it.

way it goes, i suppose.
i guess a positive outlook on it would be: could be worse! we could have no one caring enought o pester us and have the excitement for us, right?

plusonemore · 22/09/2008 11:26

i'm having pains today, shooting type ones in my back passage (how lovely)
Today i am testing a new theory that eating a whole pack of jaffa cakes can bring on labour. its a hard job but someone has to do it...

ninja · 22/09/2008 11:32

I like your theory plusonemore if jaffa cakes worked for Starlight then maybe .....

No more ctx, just knackered from only slleping a few minutes at a time last night.

DH is at footy tonight as well which means I have to do the whole dd evening thing.

MelT76 · 22/09/2008 11:43

Don't try Cadbury's chocolate mini rolls for bringing on labour, they don't work!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/09/2008 11:44

Ninja - annoying as it is, just remember that the ctx last night were probably doing something to help you along the way.

I really feel for you ladies who are getting the 'anything hapening yet' texts and calls. It used to drive me INSANE!

Hi. Totally forgot about this thread in the ante-natal clubs section of mumsnet- did comment in this September thread quite a few months' ago if I remember rightly but then forgot all bout it. But now 40 + 5 days and feeling a bit fed up- in need of moral support so thought I would join in the chat!

I'm beginning to be anxious about the baby becoming too big to push out. Or is it fine to go to 42 weeks? My midwife is away for a couple of weeks now but I do have a GP appointment later in the week. Will they do an internal examination- so far I haven't had one.

charitygirl · 22/09/2008 12:46

just adding myself - Frank Michael was born on 17th Sept at 11.55 pm after 17 hours and a truly amazing epidural. Best of luck to those who are waiting!

growth slows down around 38wks again so a 40 wk baby won't do much bigger by 42.

the WHO and a lot of other countries including France and at least one Scandinavian country recognise a full term pg to be anything from 37 - 42 wks. only after 42 do they consider you 'overdue'.

You don't need an internal. All that will tell you is what the cervix looks like, not when the baby is coming. If they want to do anything, ask that they do a doppler scan to check the function of the placenta. they like to do a lot of shroud waving about the placenta not working properly after X weeks.

jennylindinha · 22/09/2008 13:26

Happy Monday everyone!

It's quiet on here today and I guess that's 'cos everyone is having babies! Many congratulations to all the new mums and bubs that have arrived since I last logged on - from the list I think that means:
Lollipopmother, Minkersmum, Hopefully, Charitygirl, nellyonthetelly, Mellabella, Slinkie, Izzybiz, Mamamufin & Notsoslimnow.

Crikey - that's loads of you!!!

5 days to go for me and I've already had one "any news" text but thankfully that's it so far...

MelT76 · 22/09/2008 13:35

Well I'm really fed up today. So I got to thinking of all the things I've been missing and am looking forward to being able to eat/drink hopfully in the next few days!

top of the list is a bottle of Absolute raspberry vodka, which I'm hoping someone will buy me for my birthday on 29th. At this rate, could be babies birthday too

jennylindinha · 22/09/2008 14:06

Mmmm, raspberry vodka sounds lovely!
Top of my list though are: Champagne, a large gin & tonic and a French 75 (which is basically gin AND champagne together!)

Can't wait...

Pidge · 22/09/2008 14:06

ninja - rest, rest, rest. Honestly, I was so excited first time round I completely wore myself out in that 'pre labour' phase, which went on for days in my case. Once it kicks off, it'll kick off good and proper. Make the most of your chance to put your feet up and get some sleep if possible.

I'm just telling everyone I DO NOT WANT this baby until after the due date, because I want the kitchen finished and the builders out. So no-one is daring to pull the "is the baby here yet" trick on me yet!

My lovely midwife came this morning and first of all made me nervous by saying that last time she saw me she thought I would have had the baby by now!! But then when reminded that the first two were a week late, plus we have our building works as an incentive to keep the baby in she was more reassuring about it staying put for a while longer! She also reckoned the baby was posterior, which is a bore (been there, done that, don't fancy it again thank you!). So I'm going to try to do all the positioning stuff to encourage the blighter round a bit.

Pitufina · 22/09/2008 14:06

Noticed that it had been quiet today. I hope to hear announcements aoon, then!
MelT76 - I keep thinking of all the lovely things I could eat once baby is here too! I think I'll have a plate full of seafood, soft cheese, pate, a bottle of wine...... Mmmmmm!
Talking of birthdays, mine is on wednesday. (30th!! ) That'll be one day that I'll be hoping baby won't turn up! I may be a bit selfish but I don't really feel like sharing my birthday. Instead of celebrating mine for the next 18 years (or more) I'd be organising birthday parties instead! Bad mother, eh?!

carrieon · 22/09/2008 14:08

Afternoon all.
Well I'm STILL full of snot. Can't decide whether to bother the doc with it, its just stopping me sleeping really. And then dd put the cherry on the cake last night by puking in her bed. Delightful.
I am also sick of the texts and facebook messages. I know its lovely that people are thinking of me, but can't they say 'thinking of you' rather than some sarky comment about haven't I had it yet?
The guy serving me at the petrol station this morning asked in passing when my baby is due, and when I said Sunday he shouted 'get off my forecourt, no babies to be born here!!' in really comedy fashion.

I'm experiencing a weird phenomenon in that everyone else thinks I look massive...but I feel quite small! I don't feel nearly as big as I did with dd at this stage (mostly coz this baby is so much lower) and I'm perfectly capable of going about my daily life. But everyone else is saying how I look massive and ready to pop. I really can't see it...am I missing something?!

Hope everyone has a nice day

foxytocin · 22/09/2008 14:09

all i hope is that someone else is around to help me turn off the lights! I am afraid of the dark. no signs so it may well run out before this baby makes an appearance.

ninja · 22/09/2008 14:13

Thanks pidge Ikwym - last time I went to an aikido class, the cinema and for a meal while I was having contractions!! I've had some sleep this morning, but now I'm going to have dd arriving back from school in an hour (I have asked a neighbour to collect her) so I have to be bright and cheerful!

I might go and see what's on the tele

DebitheScot · 22/09/2008 14:28

ninja there's nothing on. I've just come on here because there's nothing on thats worth watching. Both DS1&2 are sleeping. Maybe I should have a nap too.

MunkiMom · 22/09/2008 14:48

mmMMmmmm....things i'm looking forward to (aside of baba):

  1. Warm Brie, a bit of blue cheese, and a stick of crusty bread to go with...
  2. more than 1 glass of wine or maybe a couple pear ciders or a corona & lime, and Baileys!!!
  3. after consuming all the above, crashing out and SLEEPING ON MY BELLY!

((but i suspect, if its anything like last post-natal events, i wont be able to sleep on the belly due to the engorging milk boobs!))

i wonder how becaroo is getting on with her hospital/consultant appt today....

mumiyumi · 22/09/2008 14:48

It's all happening thick and fast now....don't get on much now but congrats to...Minkersmum, Hopefully, nellyonthetelly, Mellabella, Slinkie, Izzybiz, Mamamufin on the birth of your babies!!!

Good luck to those waiting

ninja · 22/09/2008 14:55

Last time I had a goats cheese pizza whle in labour as I reckoned it couln't do any harm. This pregnancy I found pasturised goats cheese - heaven!

Do you reckon a few contractions is an excuse to open my for labour 'Terry's All Gold'??

You're right Debi, nothing on
