mum2bagain · 16/09/2008 16:29

I thought it could be a sign. I'm happy to wait another 6 days, but now I'm going to do a mad uniform wash and iron to be on the safe side. With my others, it was literally, waters break, contractions start and bobs your uncle, so it's a bit different for me this time. Everyone else in the house are fine, so I'm pretty sure its not a bug.

izzybiz · 16/09/2008 16:32

Hi guys, had MW appt today, swollen feet/legs and blood pressure slightly up so she took bloods. She is coming to see me at home on Thurs to check again, and also Sat morning to do a sweep!! Will be 40 weeks.

Went to loo yesterday and had loads of clear jellyTMI! on the tissue, had a load more before bed, looked it up in my book, and it said its the mucous plug that blocks the cervix and can precede the bloody show.
Only thing is it can precede labour by maybe an hour or a week!

Had no show yet, but I keep checking!

Dd keeps asking, will Bob be here tonight? I have just resigned myself to saying no! xx

MummyToOneForNow · 16/09/2008 16:41

Have just had a lovely reflexology treatment - not sure if it will have any effect but very relaxing (apart from a couple of the pressure points which were a bit uncomfortable). Have booked another one for Friday (assuming I don't go into labour before then but unlikely as dd was 11 days late )

Congrats to NotCitrus and looking forward to more news from everyone else...

mellabella · 16/09/2008 16:51

so does everyone have the upset tummy before labour or is it just with some and not others? I'm always wondering if it's something I should be watching for....

mum2bagain · 16/09/2008 17:02

Mellabella I don't think I had it with my others, then again it was quite a while ago. I've just been reading up on labour signs and it doesn't say much about tummy ache and nausea being a sign, but as far as I know, it's quite common for a woman to empty her bowels (i.e. diarrhea) when labour is about to start - here's hoping anyway

sagecat · 16/09/2008 17:20

well after my post yesterday saying i thought my pregnancy was regressing rather than progressing things have changed. Going to bed last night had 2 normal BH then all hell broke loose in my lower bump - severe BH like cramp lasting for 5 - 10 mins with extreme contractions lasting 1 -2 mins at the same time. DH had to hold me up (as half way up stairs at time) while i was almost screaming and biting his jumper - not fun.

Thought that this was IT and possible baby was about to fall out! After the major pain faded the BH contiued to arrive ever 10 mins or so (taken pain-killers) then vanished.

weny to mw today - sent me to hospital for monitoring - everything fine and now for the first time babys head is in pelvic space and fixed (what does fixed mean?) they don't know why such sudden extreme pain last night!

My mums now coming to stay early with me as DH still has to work and i'm really worried about that pain starting again when im alone with DD and scaring her.

cranmorefifi · 16/09/2008 18:04

well have been to see midwife and am booked in for a sweep on thursday (40 weeks). Have been having crampy pains all day and quite nauseous too. This is soooo frustrating. Can't remember who asked about 'loose stools'/ diahorrea but I have been having 2-3 'clear outs' (sorry if tmi) for about 4 weeks now and still no baby. Also plenty of BH's too. Agree much better with the first as no expectations. Hoping the birth will be slightly less traumatic!

Made the lovely peppermint choc chip cookies which went down a treat. Now feel incredibly sick though!

Hope that the rest of you have more luck. becaroo I think we are due on the same day - will have to have a 'labour-off' race.

mamamufin · 16/09/2008 18:18

Hi guys
It is nice for me but (obviouslously not for some of you ) to hear we are mostly getting similar symtoms (if u know what I mean). Sickness and tummy ache seems to be the norm. My period like pain has eased. But I really cant face any tea (I did have a big lunch). sagecat I think I might ask my mum come and stay too if I am like this in a day or so as its not fair on ds.
I ve not been up to baking as I dont want to mess my kitchen up . But I have saved the cookie receipe in my favourites for when I dont care. Gosh I am a waffler [blush ] sorry
Anyway I plan to have another early night so I am rested just in case.
Thinking of you guys, take care xx

ellideb · 16/09/2008 18:20

Hello everyone, gosh its all go isnt it!

After regular pains last night they stopped when I woke up this morning! Pah! Really thought it was the beginning of something. So I've missed out on a good nights sleep as I was hooked up to the TENS to try and block the pain. This could go on for days!

DP stayed home off work to be with me today and he has been pampering me all day which has been lovely! I'm going to try some breast stimulation with my breast pump now to see if that kick starts anything.

I had a midwife appointment this afternoon and she said the baby was getting into position, he has dropped a little so the pains havn't been all for nothing.

It is so confusing to try and tell the difference between actual contractions and painful braxton hicks isn't it. I'm convinced that what I was experiencing last night and this morning where mini contractions because of the frequency, regularity and length of them, but the midwife doesn't seem to think so!

minkersmum · 16/09/2008 18:29

mum2bagain how are things progressing??
Nausea and diarumphi definitely can be a sign of labour, even if its not well documented i have seen it many times.

Funny your previous labours sound like mine, waters, contractions, baby! Much clearer pattern in my opinion! I hate all the guess work this time and even tho i'm a midwife i find myself phoning friends and asking did you have this, what happened next, how long after the show etc etc, Just wishing my best friend was mystic meg!!

cranmorefifi · 16/09/2008 18:58

didn't realise you were a midwife minkersmum! glad to hear that even you aren't all calm and collected. My MIL is a midwife and I am always really embarrassed to hassle her with lots of questions as I think she'll think I'm insane. You've just made me feel a whole lot better...

carrieon · 16/09/2008 18:59

hopefully eating your post-birth food is even more outrageous than scoffing your labour snacks!!

I hate to tell some of you but the big bowel clear out can happen during labour

Really hope all this pain, cramping, missed sleep and nausea is productive for those suffering.

So, what should I do tomorrow? A friend is taking dd for the whole day (WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!) So I have one day's maternity leave effectively. What shall I DO?! I'm thinking of reading mother and baby magazine in starbucks, and hanging dd's bedroom curtains, coz its too good an opportunity to pass up of her not being around so I can iron the curtains and hang them in one go. So I guess I've just answered my own question, it'll take all day just to do those two things!

Here's hoping for more babies born tonight

mum2bagain · 16/09/2008 19:12

Minkersmum - I'm really frustrated tbh. After all the carryon this afternoon, and me being sure things could be happening, I'm pretty sure things aren't at the moment. Who knows what the next few hours will bring. I still have an uneasy feeling, and cramps with b/h, but nothing major.

What I feel like doing is packing everyone off to my mums and hibernating until it happens. Nobody know, especially our d/h's how frustrating the last few days are, and I know I'm not on my own. And the POSSIBILITY of going over my due date just drives me mad, but I know it is possible.

I'm just having a major moan and feel quite emotional. I mean, how much cleaning and preparing can we do?? Aaargghhhh

MelT76 · 16/09/2008 19:22

MW appt today. BP up, baby still 3/5ths (lazy little so and so, 4 weeks now), trace protein in urine so appt for Friday and Tuesday and then talk induction she says.

So, have had the raspberry leaf tea out today. Cant drink it warm so chilled it and drank it with loads of ice in. Bit better taht way, but not much.

jearund · 16/09/2008 19:23

Hi everyone!

We're finally home from hospital so I've come on to post my birth story. Have caught up with the posts up to our announcement but no further - so many pages!

After the event my mum (former midwife) said she had been expecting me to go into labour when she saw me on Thursday as she could see the bump had dropped and I kept having (painless) BH. Nice of her to warn me!

My waters broke unexpectedly after a day out having hair cuts and shopping. I was only in Mothercare 2 hours before - if it had happened earlier maybe we'd have got some free stuff! Meanwhile DH had been on nights and had had all of an hour and a half's sleep! He'd just gone back to bed for a nap before the next night shift (which of course he never did in the end!) when I called out from the loo that my waters had just broken, and then neither of us got any sleep on Saturday night. Poor DH was more knackered than I was and kept falling asleep on the floor of the recovery room! But that was later.....

After I posted here we went to hospital and sat and waited for a long time! They had already decided to do a CS as I was booked in for one but because it wasn't an emergency as such we weren't priority. They put me on IV antibiotics for the Strep B just in case the CS was more than 4 hours after my waters broke (in the event it was 8 hours). We were then bumped twice by people in labour who might need an emergency CS - in the event neither did but they had to keep the theatre free. Meanwhile I started getting contractions and of course I hadn't got the TENS machine as I hadn't expected to need it. So I managed without pain relief. They were painful but bearable and irregular but I was starting to get worried by the time they were finally ready for us as they were getting more painful and frequent! I was very nervous for the actual CS - terrified when the spinal block went in as she'd warned me if I moved I could end up paralysed (they have to tell you that but it's very rare!). It was very different from the emergency one - much calmer. The downside was my nerves because I was very aware of what was going on but the staff were brilliant and kept me informed every step of the way - so much better than last time. This time I wasn't sick and I didn't start shivering so when Dougie came out I was able to hold him straight away and I cuddled him while they stitched me up. We bonded straight away. He looks very different from DD but just as adorable and vulnerable. He loves me cuddling him horizontally (up my front between my breasts) and right now is cuddled up like that while I type. DD is in bed.

BF is going well. He first fed an hour after the op. We had problems initially with latching on - he would only do it on one breast - but now seems to be getting the hang of it. He's feeding about 9 times a day, more at night than the day but the MW said now we need to start waking him and feeding more often to clear the touch of jaundice. My nipples are already getting sore but are not as bad as they were on day 2 last time. I think the difference is that now I know what it feels like when he is latched on properly so they're probably not being quite as abused (plus last time DD bit me!). It doesn't really hurt once he's over the initial latch, which is how it should be.

DD is quite interested in him and often comes over to touch him. She also gave him a goodnight kiss! It's a relief to be home as she's been fine but she did miss me.

Recovery is going well. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in pain but it's much less pain than last time - probably because there is no infection present this time. Also I had an electric bed which was wonderful!

Congrats to Mumuyumi and gothicmama and also to Biglips for your birthday which Dougie now shares with you!

It's silly but I'm actually quite pleased he came early. I somehow felt I was cheating by having a planned c-section at 39+1 - maybe he wouldn't be ready to come out? (my due date wasn't until 22 September). But in fact he's pre-empted me by being born at 38+6 so he clearly was ready after all!

Good luck to everyone else still waiting especially lollipop and hopefully - looking at the arrivals list I'm still the last one for the moment......

jearund · 16/09/2008 19:28

Blimey and Biglips sorry, I've got you mixed up again! It was Blimey's birthday wasn't it?

blimey · 16/09/2008 19:42

It was my birthday - an auspicious date in my opinion!
Many congrats on Dougie xxx

Carrieon my excuse is that we're moving on 4th October, so the freezer needs to be emptied by then... That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Minkersmum I can't believe you kept your career secret from us - think of all the pointless questions we would have been asking you for the past 2 weeks if you'd let us know earlier!

I am envious of those with emptying bowels! Mine were exactly the same from 38-40 weeks, and from the day I went overdue I have been really bunged up. V annoying.

becaroo · 16/09/2008 19:46

Hello all.

Its very comforting to know I'm not the only one who hasnt got a clue whats going on down there

Having had one baby and gone through labour and birth you would think I would have some clue, but no.

I am feeling quite nauseous this evening too and lots of bh but that seems to be the norm for me at nighttime for the past few weeks so dont think it will lead to anything

Wish this baby would just come. Very fed up. Very tearful. Very grateful I have all of you to talk to x

cranmorefifi · 16/09/2008 19:51

becaroo my MW said that some women get tired and tearful just before they go in to labour. Might be a good sign. You'd better not beat me though...

becaroo · 16/09/2008 19:52

hmmmm......I feel a wager coming on!!!!!

hopefully · 16/09/2008 20:06

The next person who beats me to giving birth is getting a virtual dirty look! In fact, every single one of you who gives birth before me is going to be subject to a stern glare. And lots of excitement and congratulations, obviously!

mum2bagain · 16/09/2008 20:08

Seeing as I'm feeling so down, I've just been on the childbirth thread and had the biggest laugh in ages. Please read the topic - Terrified at what they'll say in labour - OMG I LMAO
