I remember when my waters broke with DS, no amount of towels woudl have been enough. Luckily I'd been in hosp for the 24 hrs previously, but they went in 3 waves and there was a 6ft puddle under the bed & chair (I was sat on the chair) each time.

That's my biggest worry this time - do I stay at home till they;ve gone or do I risk going in the car which would need a major valet afterwards or camp out on the hospital doorstep from the first contraction till they let me in

dinkystinky · 29/09/2008 15:39

KazzaL - no idea about germoline! All I know is that all the athletes foot creams had pregnancy as a contraindication... though apparently urine is safe in pregnancy Perhaps I should stop doing all those pelvic floor exercises...

I have to admit, ended up going totally organic with shower gels (think Ren products - I have them as a standard request for xmas and birthday presents when anyone asks what I want and have a stockpile!) and shampoos when pregnant with DS and have continued ever since (as rather got used to the nice smells and skin seems to react better to it). Dont think anyone has ever really done much of a study into all that stuff and pregnancy - though I guess the chemicals in medical cream are a bit stronger probably...

swampster · 29/09/2008 15:41

Tea tree oil is pretty good for athlete's foot. Otherwise common-or-garden Canesten (sp) that you'd use on fanjo-thrush can be very effective... And HAS to be safe in pregnancy as I was prescribed it by a Consultant last time round (not for athlete's foot) .

swampster · 29/09/2008 15:44

To be honest, I think your GP will be able to recommend some athlete's foot cream that would clear it - many/most things applied topically to your feet should be fine by 20 weeks despite any contraindications.

PinkTulips · 29/09/2008 15:53

kazzal, waters breaking can differ greatly from one preg to the next so don't panic too much, you may not have the floods you did last time... if they even break that is!

with dd when they broke them i had a little trickle and that was the extent of it, with ds i had a gush.... and then 2 hours of more gushing every time i contracted the student mw was following me around with a mop as i was flooding the delivery room

agree with tea tree oil for anything fungus related, i had a toe nail infection a while ago and it cleared it right up.

i'm so unmotivated today.... really need to start dinner but can't seem to shift myself. have been camped out at my friends house for hours as i couldn't face dealing with whining kids at home... i forgot to bring a spare nappy for ds though and his leaked so he's come home wearing dd's knickers and pants.... realy should stick a nappy on him before he floods the room..... i'm sure i'll get around to it sometime soon

dinkystinky · 29/09/2008 15:56

Oooh, teatree oil - I actually have some of that at home. Will give it a go tonight. Thank you kind ladies

swampster · 29/09/2008 16:17

Tea tree kind of cuts through the itch and brings with it its own stinging agony - which is blissful for a few minutes. But I wouldn't rule out the prescription meds if I were you.

dinkystinky · 29/09/2008 17:00

Thanks Swampster - not quite at 20 weeks so want to give the tea tree a try first: if it doesnt work will get straight down to GP demanding canesten or something else as soon as hit 20 weeks...

mrsy · 29/09/2008 17:40

Evening all.

Well, this week seems to be going well - so far!

biscuitytrousers - we can take co-codomol, as it's paracetamol based. i know that asprin is a complete no-no, and ibuprofen has to be prescribed...

tbm - hope tink's feeling better, and that you can think about the positives today.

mrsy · 29/09/2008 17:49

on the fungus thing - my consultant prescribed me uner-strength cream because he said over the counter thrush cream like caniston isn't good in pregnancy.

swampster · 29/09/2008 18:02

Honestly guys, I think any doctor would tell you that a topical cream such as Canesten for athletes foot when pregnant is not going to get anywhere NEAR the baby.

From the website: "Canesten itself is not known to cause any damage and can be used safely during pregnancy." - That is Canesten of the fanjo variety, which obviously gets a lot closer to him/her.

Like I said, I was prescribed it when pregnant last time by a consultant.

swampster · 29/09/2008 18:15

And a few mumsnetters too!

lardybump · 29/09/2008 18:28

Morning everyone.

Hope Tink is doing better today.

My gp has put me on a repeat prescription for canesen pestery because I got thrush every couple of weeks while pregnant with dd and it is starting all over again. It is safe in pregnancy!! I dont know if the foot cream is different though. I think they put "seek advise if pregnant" on everything to cover themselves.

Mrsy glad you are feeling better today, hope your sister has said sorry.

Hi to everyone else....

MarkStretch · 29/09/2008 19:06

Honestly, I go to work for one day and everyone starts talking about itching and fanjo cream.

Last night I had a really vivid dream that I went on a night out and got really really drunk, so drunk I couldn't remember where I was staying, and embarrassed myself by falling asleep on a bus and lots of people were trying to work out what to do with me.

I woke up this morning feeling really guilty. It was so real I was convinced I had got hammered the night before.

McDreamy · 29/09/2008 19:09

Evening all! Hope everyone is ok.

It rained today - hurrah! First time since April, DD went dancin' in the rain! Under 4 weeks to go now and I will be back in the UK!

lardybump · 29/09/2008 19:12

MS these pg dreams are so strange. I had a bad dream last night about ghosts and woke up really scared and couldn't go back to sleep........ I am bloody (cough) well lets just say over 30 for gods sake not twelve.

MarkStretch · 29/09/2008 19:16

Not long now McDreamy! You must be getting excited- although it's getting chilly here.

Is everyone managing not to sleep on their back? I keep waking up really comfy, but flat on my back. Is this bad?

OP posts:
swampster · 29/09/2008 20:24

You can count on me to lower the tone, MS .

Did anyone else find themselves drawn into this game earlier today? There was/is a thread about it and judging by the words still happening, there are still a fair few MNers on it! DS1 (4), bless him, was practising his mouse and letter skills!

MarkStretch · 29/09/2008 20:33

Hahahaha! That game is brilliant!

Lo is having a mad half hour so just laid on the floor and puled my top up and DH could see him squirming around!

Anyone else still having kicks really low down?

OP posts:
swampster · 29/09/2008 20:42

Kicks low down? I feel like I have a bucket of worms at the bottom of my bump!

MarkStretch · 29/09/2008 20:46

Was that you cheeky swampy?!

OP posts:
mrsy · 29/09/2008 20:47

MS - I'm normally on my stomach, so it's taken a while to adjust to side, but with the aid of two full length pillows I'm comfy - shame I'm now five miles away from John. Boo-hoo.

mrsy · 29/09/2008 20:49

I mean in bed, asleep, obviously. Not just walking around with two pillows attached to me!

pluto · 29/09/2008 20:52

My lo seems to enjoy midnight acrobatics. Still, it has 20 weeks to swap this round for the daytime
Nearly logged on MN at 3.30am yesterday morning due to liveliness of bump and consequent lack of sleep.

mrsy · 29/09/2008 21:25

I wonder if I've been feeling her flipping around, as I can feel a sensation, rather like if you heart skips a beat and the next beat is harder IYSWIM. It seems more obvious if there is some pressure on my stomach - which is why I've discounted the movements until now. Do other people recognise this sensation?
