plantsitter · 14/09/2008 21:57

Cool, thanks!

Mirry71 · 14/09/2008 22:32

hello all, am about to crash with tiredness - seems to have been a very busy weekend.
DH's mother came out with a classic today. Said that I looked like a "strapping" girl.
"You mean fat," I replied
"No no no, you look..." Pause, fumble for words."you look..."
"are you about to say bonny?" I asked suspiciously.
"Er...yes..."
Sigh. DH killing himself laughing.

In the meantime, I am sitting consoling myself by realising 17 weeks tomorrow woo hoo. Ummm - am I meant to be organising anything though? Havent seen midwife since 9 weeks and am not due to see her til mid Oct. No tests have been mentioned since the nuchal came out OK....my 20 week scan not til 22 weeks. All seems very far away....am I missing out on something obvious?
Forgive stupid question from first time mum...

TinkerBellesMum · 14/09/2008 23:13

Mirry, have you seen the hospital yet? You should have had a 12 week scan (normally between 10-13 weeks ) at most hospitals.

Normally you are seen every four weeks, alternating between hospital and CMW.

Mirry71 · 15/09/2008 08:53

yes had 12 week scan when had scan and nuchal test due to advanced age.....but since then nowt. Due to see MW 21 oct and the hosp scan the same week...apparently so short staffed 22 weeks is forst time they can fit me in...

herbgarden · 15/09/2008 09:14

Mirry - did your doctors surgery give you a list of what you need to do when - I know ours do (but the lady didn't give it to me this time - I found my last times and don't think things have changed)...and it tells you what weeks you need to go for any blood pressure checks, blood tests, and when you need to see GP and when you need to see your midwife? Ask your doctors surgery if they can give you some guidance and then p'raps jot it down if they don't have anything more formal "handout" for you. No-one usually reminds you of the visits here I just check my list and then phone for an appointment. When I pitch up, my doctor then usually says "Oh why are you here" and I tell him and he says "Oh ok then" - does his bit and off I go !!.....

mrsy · 15/09/2008 09:29

hi mirry - i'm a first-timer too and have had the 12-week scan and two midwife apoointments. (plus other stuff, but that's 'the usual' stuff you shoulod have done). i've had booking blood tests, and i've got all my appointments (for gtt and anti-d, and other scans etc) on a list my midwife gave me...

rosieposey · 15/09/2008 09:36

Morning all,

Have a ton of dull as crap stuff to do today but am shamelessly trying to put it off.

I can feel my lo moving all the time now - every day :-) Not kicking as such just wriggling low down, its really nice and reassuring though.

This pregnancy seems to be whizzing by now ive got past the 12 week mark ... I wish my blooming stage would kick in like everyone elses though cause ive still got loads of crappy spots

McDreamy · 15/09/2008 09:37

Morning all! I am in a busy mood this morning, making loads of phone calls about our coming move back to the UK. All seems to be coming together but there is sooooo much to organise!!

Have packed a suitcase of neutral baby things to bring home and divided DD's and DS's out grown clothes into bags ready to pack depending on gender of this one. Should find out just before we move home so can get rid of one pile and keep the other!!!!

Still not much of a bump or many movements still should all change soon

Back to the UK for a short trip on Weds as my brother gets married on Saturday - all very exciting!!

mslucy · 15/09/2008 09:58

Hi everyone.
Glad we're getting lots of wriggles.
I've been having them for quite a few weeks (second timer) and they are something rather special.

Just took ds in for his first day at school nursery and he couldn't wait to get rid of me.
Which I suppose is a good sign.
I now should now stop dithering and do some bloody work!

mrsy · 15/09/2008 10:23

Grrr - I want some wiggles... Can you all remember when you first felt them with your first babies?

Am off to work this afternoon. I'm so nervous and feeling quiet stressed and emotional, which makes me feel sick, but I'm determined to push myself and really succeed, so they keep me right up to my due date!

Please keep your fingers crossed...

swampster · 15/09/2008 10:29

My first baby was a real wriggler and kicker. Second I barely anything felt at all - very worrying. Midwife suggested as I had been soooooo mahoooooosive first time round I might stretched myself beyond being capable of much sensation in that area.

But when DS2 came out his arms stayed clenched in front of him for ages (days and days, if not weeks, hard to remember now) until they flopped by his side for ages longer - HV suggested he had been very uncomfortable in the womb, poor love.

I was worried he'd never be able to use them properly - though he did manage to pivot till he was upside down in bed a few times when he was just a few days old and I was positive DH was playing tricks on me.

Me: Did you put the baby back in bed upside down?

DH: No, you must have...

Then I saw him doing it myself.

This time round I have tiny reassuring wriggles.

PinkTulips · 15/09/2008 11:22

funnily enough mrsy i felt my first and second babies a whole lot sooner than i felt this baby!

dd was 12 weeks for flutters, 14 weeks for proper thumps. ds was 10 weeks for flutters and 12 weeks for proper thumps that even dp could feel!

this baby it was alot later before i felt anything definite, had a few faint stirrings early again but was 16 weeks before i started to feel much

well everyone here has simultaneously switched to thinking it's a boy, dp, kids and my dad are all certain and i keep unconciously saying he every time i refer to baby so might have to find a boys name after all!

want me to really make you all jealous?.......... i'll be 38 when my oldest tuns 18 and 42 when my youngest does 2

rosieposey · 15/09/2008 12:13

He he not me pinktulips ... i too will be 38 when my eldest turns 18 but im an awful lot closer to that than you lol im trying very hard not to think about the fact that ill be 55 when this babys 18 mind you maybe i should have another one just to even it all out Try and save one for later pinktulips because i reckon there is definately something to be said for having a later one and for it keeping you young [or sending you to an early grave!] ohhh the stress ...

mslucy · 15/09/2008 12:23

I am 38.
It's not that bad, honest.
I don't feel old, and thanks to the services of a good hairdresser, don't look too elderly either.
I envy you ladies for having the bottle to reproduce young - but then looking back, do I have any regrets.

Do I hell

herbgarden · 15/09/2008 12:32

mrsy - I honestly don't think I felt anything significant until I went on holiday just the week after my 20 week scan last time. I was lying on a sun lounger and suddenly felt this funny feeling I'd never had before (and it took me a while to realise what it was doooohh!) - after that I had a lively little kicking and squirming thing....and I have a non - stop ants in your pants, never shuts up ds now. So be warned !!

I wonder sometimes whether first time round you don't quite know what it is you're feeling. Second time round, I've felt it much earlier but I think that's because I know what it feels like IYSWIM?

Questionkid · 15/09/2008 12:41

Morning all,

mrsy - good luck for the job. (But did I miss something? I didn't know you had a new job?) As for feeling movements, I've been feeling mine for about a week now (I'm 19+6) and at first I wasn't totally sure if I was definitely feeling what I thought I was feeling. So you never know, you might already be feeling it and just don't recognise it. It's like a very light, soft kind of squirmy/wriggly feeling and only comes every now and again. Mine come mainly after I've eaten something. I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, it felt very odd, specially the very low down ones !

I feel a bit like I've regressed this weekend. I've been without DP as he's been on night shifts all weekend so I've had to do all the shopping and cleaning myself having had a full week at work. By yesterday afternoon I had become the clumsiest person going, dropping everything and feeling like I was going to cry from tiredness.

I feel a bit better this morning thank goodness!

america · 15/09/2008 12:47

Uh, DH just heard he will be sent on an emergency assignment to Middle-East for FIVE WEEKS leaving on Wednesday!!!

We have no family around so I'll be solely in charge of DS and the dog while working full time. Not sure how this happened. And DH will miss the scan at 23 weeks too. I'm feeling really down now...

PinkTulips · 15/09/2008 12:53

that's rotten america.

do you have a few good friends at least who can help out a little?

as for missing the scan, perfect excuse to book a private 4d one a few weeks later no?

onwardandupward · 15/09/2008 12:57

about wriggles - I've got much LESS movement this time than last time, and it's because of the placenta being right on the front rather than neatly tucked up the back out of the way

PinkTulips · 15/09/2008 13:02

wow

PinkTulips · 15/09/2008 13:10

more detailed so don't read if hormonal it's also written in an anti abortion context so don't read it if that would upset you

Mirry71 · 15/09/2008 13:39

mrsy what is gtt and anti-d. am worried now have missed out on lots of things...

Rachrox · 15/09/2008 13:48

Aww that's so sweet and amazing that a baby that small can survive.
A friend of mine had her boy at 23 weeks last december, he is now 9 months old! He was very poorly at the beginning but getting stronger every day. He came home when he was 5 months old, and now giggles and coo's.
I thought my dd1 was early at 28 weeks!

PinkTulips · 15/09/2008 14:09

what always amazes me is how incredibly healthy alot of these kids are as toddlers.

my friend had her little boy at 28 weeks, less than a month after dd was born at term.

at 6 months there was such a huge differance, he could barely hold his head up and was very newborn like whereas dd was a hefty girl who was already trying to move.

now at 3.5 you'd swear on whatever holy book took your fancy that he's at least a year older! he's huge, speaks well (has a little english accent like his daddy which in rural ireland just sounds so damn cute), is a bright, well developed, clever and cheerful little boy. dd wears his grown out of clothes despite being the month older than him, lol.
