I think it's time for a new thread! The old one was getting huge...

Hello everyone
I've been reading this thread for the last few days and have finally got round to registering to talk! Hope its ok to join in. I am due on 6 may, and currently measuring 39 inches round the belly. Things seem to be going ok, although like everyone else I seem to suffer from tiredness and days of being convinced that something could still go wrong... so its been really helpful to read all your comments and know that other people are thinking the same paranoid thoughts!

maymum · 09/03/2005 19:38

Hi everyone! It's great that there are so many messages on here to read - you've all been busy. I'll try to catch up... Yes, I too have had a few period-type pains, but never bad enough to take painkillers. I've got most big things ready - room decorated, cot & changing table up, pushchair ordered, due in any time now. I haven't packed my hospital bag, but have made a list of what to pack. I haven't stated washing baby's clothes & bedding yet. I plan to do these things when my maternity leave starts after Easter. Oh yes, my belly button is normally a very deep inney (I always thought it must be sewn to my spine or something!), but I can see the bottom of it now, which is a novelty. It's great to be able to clean it properly too!

This week, I finally stopped feeling constantly nauseous, and I'm loving being pregnant. Long may it last!

uwila · 09/03/2005 20:07

I think some belly buttons pop out sometime and others don't. Mine never popped out last pregnancy. But this time, it looks on the verge. However, I loved the pops out when it's done story below. Very funny.

Well, i've plucked up the courage to measure round my belly - 42 1/2 inches and i'm only 5ft 1" tall so i feel like i resemble a rugby ball! I can't remember how big i was with ds at this stage of pregnancy, but can remember looking like i outweighed a beached whale a few days before he was born!

Hello weezle, glad everything is going well for you. Your baby is due on my dh's birthday - and a week before my ds2 is due. do you know what sex your baby is?

I have noticed that everybody here seems so organised - i haven't even chosen my pram yet and all ds's baby clothes are still in the attic! I'm sure this time last pregnancy i had everything ready, but i feel a lot more relaxed about it this time. My sil is due 1st may (which is also their dd's birthday - they couldn't have timed that any better!) and she seems to have nearly everything organised.

i haven't had many erotic dreams but couldn't get enough sex up until a few weeks ago - dh didn't know what had hit him!!(and he didn't complain either I did have a nightmare a few nights ago, dreamt that dh and i were in edinburgh and he left me for some one else - it was one of those which for a few seconds when i woke up i thought was real

Maddison · 09/03/2005 21:33

p.s. logic - let us know if the cuddly rabbit works - may have to get one myself

uwila · 09/03/2005 21:39

No erotic dreams for me. but I keep dreaming that the baby's limb are sticking out of my belly. Like I have really elastic skin where he can just poke a leg out and I have to stick it back in so he doesn't get hurt.

I hope this is normal.

Well, I'm off to bed. Night night everyone.

northstar · 10/03/2005 08:22

Good morning everyone, it's so nice to see the thread so active it's getting very real now isn't it!
Does anyone fancy compiling a list of names/dates/gender of arrival etc? I'm off to toddler group this morning but i could do one this afternoon?

uwila · 10/03/2005 08:47

Mornin' northstar. We could do a stats thread where we all post the basics and don't chat so it's easy to scroll through. For example:

Due date:
Existing children:
Location: where you live
Gender of new baby:
Planned birth location/hospital:
Birth preference:

What do you think? Shall I start it?

logic · 10/03/2005 09:00

Welcome Weezle!

Maddison, most of us here are just above 5' too! As for the rabbit (the cuddly one ), it reeked so much of lavender that neither of us could stand to have it in the bed. lol I did sleep all night but I had the most bizarre and vivid dreams. I think it's quite normal at this stage.

Good idea on the profile update, northstar, given that we have a few new members. I suggest that we just put the info that we are comfortable with. I know that some people don't like to put down any details at all. I'll start:

Age: 28
Location: South East England
Job: SAHM
Other kids: ds 2 + 1/2
Due: 9th May
Gender: girl (probably)

logic · 10/03/2005 09:05

Good idea, Uwila! Go for it!

Due in May 2005 - Stats Thread

Maddison · 10/03/2005 10:57

That was a really good idea Uwila - it means ewcomers like myself can see at a glance when everybody else is due instead of trying to scroll through all the threads.

I can remember when i was pg with ds having a dream where he stuck his head out so i could see what he looked like and another that when he was born he was the size of a 2 yr old toddler! Doesn't pregnancy do the strangest things...

Brighteyes · 10/03/2005 11:10

Maddison, love your choice of name, Bailey is gorgeous.

Hi All

Been away visiting DP's family in Leeds so haven't been on for a while. Had a lovely break and my sciatica has really eased up, yippee!!!!

Bailey is lovely, that's the name I wanted but DP doesn't.

Haven't measured my belly yet but feel that over the last week it has really expanded, only now are people in the street noticing without thinking I'm just fat!!

Been getting some pains like period pains too and real pains in my groin and sides of my belly, especially at night!!

He's feeling very constricted in there now and can really feel him up in my ribs which can be quite uncomfortable, but still lovely!!

Been having the erotic dreams about men I shouldn't namely DP's friends and a manager at work!!!

My belly button is now flat and looking really ugly as I had a piercing and now it's not there it's scarred, erghhh!!

Has anyone started doing NCT classes?!? DP & I had our 1st one on Mon and really enjoyed it, met some nice couples too.

fisil · 10/03/2005 12:05

Wow, such a busy thread!

chocolate addiction: yes, had it for about 7 months now!
belly button: so flat you can hardly see it. Had a real outtie last time, but have had keyhole surgery through it since, so I guess it's changed shape
dreams: I have the limb/whole baby sticking out dreams which I like at the time, but get disturbed by when I wake up

Due date: 26th April
Existing children: ds (2 and a bit)
Location: SW London
Gender of new baby: boy (think)
Planned birth location/hospital: Kingston
Birth preference: get it out quickly and healthily with not much pain please!

Oh, and I'm chilled about the pains now, they aren't very much. But have a stinky stinky cold - spent yesterday in bed feeling sorry for myself.

LittleB · 10/03/2005 12:43

Wow, loads of messages in the last two days, great to see the thread so busy and new people.
Dp keeps teasing me that I'm going to have an outy belly button soon, its definitely shallower but hasn't popped yet - can't be done yet .
Holly, I had low blood pressure up until Christmas, it then got alot better but has just come back again in the last couple of weeks. My midwife told me there isn't much I can do, just drink plenty and have lots of snacks to keep blood sugar levels up and lie down if I feel I'm about to faint - and try and avoid overheating. I've had to leave the office a couple of times and sit in the car park to cool off and let it settle down. I've also found being excited or nervous makes it worse too - I guess we just have to try and get on with it, at least its better than high blood pressure and it'll be gone in a few weeks.
I've had weird and erotic dreams, those ones which feel real are quite scary. I've had no trouble getting to sleep, but after I've got up to go to the loo, sometimes find it difficult getting back to sleep again.
I'll go and post on our stats thread - what a good idea.

Weezle · 10/03/2005 13:32

Maddison - she's a girl we think, its also my sister's birthday that day!

Belly button - almost at the popping stage.
Chocolate - I'm trying to restrict myself, but to be honest, I could eat Snickers until they come out of my ears! If one more person asks whether I should be eating them because of the peanuts I think I'll scream. Does anyone know whether Snickers are ok?!

fashill · 10/03/2005 14:12

Weezle - re the Snickers I believe that 'they' say to avoid nuts if you have a history of nut allergies in the family.

LittleB · 10/03/2005 14:26

Hi weezle, re Snickers - 'they' also say avoid peanuts if you've got any allergy history in the family e.g. hayfever etc. I've had to avoid them as dp has hayfever, so dp has been waving them under my nose for the last 7 months! This is a new suggestion and has only come in during the last couple of years (my sister could stuff peanuts down with her first - now aged 4, but had to avoid them with 2nd - now 1) so I wouldn't worry about it too much - my doctor said what you eat and don't eat during pregnancy is a 'lifestyle choice' as all the risks are so minimal.

uwila · 10/03/2005 15:46

I thought the peanut avoidance thing was specifically for those who have a strong likelihood of passin on Asthma -- not any allergy. Although, I have recently read that asthma, eczema, and hayfever are all related somehow. So, perhaps those should be included.

Personally, I just couldn't do with out my peanutbutter and jam sanwich every morning. mmmmmmm... I love it! Oh, and I do have a sister with asthma. But, stuff it, I cant worry about things that have wekly proven links. Better chances of getting run over by a lorrie on my way to work -- but I'm still going to go to work.

LittleB · 10/03/2005 16:07

I think we're both right - this is what I found on a website;
Question: Is it safe to eat peanuts during pregnancy?
BabyCentre Editorial Team: The UK government recommends that certain women avoid eating peanuts while they are pregnant. You are advised to avoid peanuts if you, your baby's father, or one of your previous children has had an allergic reaction to something. Allergic conditions include:
? eczema
? asthma
? hayfever
? any allergic response (rashes, itches, bumps) if you've eaten food such as strawberries, shellfish, or peanuts
It is only peanuts that should be avoided by some women --- other nuts, such as brazil, hazelnuts, walnuts or cashew nuts are perfectly safe.

maymum · 10/03/2005 16:16

I'm avoiding peanuts - I heard that if you or DH/DP have a family history of ANY allergy, eczema or asthma you can reduce the risk of your baby having a nut allergy by avoiding peanuts during pregnancy. Isn't it wierd how we've all heard different things. I'm just glad I don't live in USA, where pg ladies are told to avoid aspartame. That isn't the advice here though (yet). I tried giving it up for a while, but it's in everthing from Mullerlight yoghurts to Robinson's fruit squash, and most fizzy drinks, diet or otherwise!!!!! I've given up giving up!

Hope you're all OK. I'm now on my 4th nausea-free day in a row - YIPPPEEEEEE!!!!!!! Have joined some of you with the chocolate addiction though - Mars bars for me. Yummmmmmmm!

uwila · 10/03/2005 16:40

Really??? I'm American, and I've never been told to avoid natra sweet (I would fail if I tried anyway). Of course I have lived there for a few years so perhaps some docs do advise such an unthinkable thing.
