Oh brighteyes sorry to hear how things have been going for you, it must have been so worrying. I hope you are getting lots of information and support, and now some rest at home.
DS is having a fabulous day, he had a nap and couldnt believe it when he woke up and it was STILL his birthday!!! Aren't they great? They sang Happy Birthday to him in play school and I think that has been the best part so far.
I am not feeling great, it hurts to do anything or nothing, and my boobs are killing me, but ds is taking my mind off it today Dreading the next few weeks.....but really benefiting from talking to you all.

flyingdog · 13/04/2005 17:04

Thanks Myermay - yes i'm scheduled to have a scan tomorrow, they did say it could mean the baby is lying strangely - hence the small measurement, I'm just hoping it's that and nothing wrong. It's so scary when they find something even slightly amiss - so I can imagine how scared you must be Brighteyes. But at least having a C-section will be so much better than having to push out a huge baby (at least your bits will still be the same!!)

Brighteyes · 13/04/2005 18:30

Thanks so much for the support everyone. Starting to calm down about it all now and thinking about all the pro's of having a c-section. This is my first baby so its all very scary at times but at least I haven't got a little 'un to run after like myermay mentioned.

Its such a relief to have this forum to vent out my concern to people who now exactly what I'm going through. THANKS EVERYONE.

Good luck with the scan tomorrow flyingdog.

Birghteyes,
This will be my second baby. My first pregnancy, I never even considered the possibility that I might have a caesarean. I have two sisters and a mother who all managed all of their children with no complications. And, so I just figured that genetics would prevail and it would be the same for me... until lying there on my back more than a day after induction at two weeks over due and the midwife was calling the consultant in because the heart rate was dropping. The consultant looked at me and said you have a long way to go. We need to get this baby out and it's time to start looking at the options. I replied, you mean caesarean. She said "yes." I tell ya, when you think your baby's health is at risk, it doesn't matter one damn bit how he/she gets out. The medical staff was fantastic, and before I knew it I had was opening my eyes to a beautiful baby girl, who incidentally passed the apgar test with flying colors. I am now a big advocate of caesareans and think they get an undue bad wrap. I look back and I think I'm lucky to live in a day and age where they are common place. 50 years ago the baby (and possibly me too) would have died.

I hope this story helps you to see that a caesarean is a good thing if needed. And to be honest, the recovery isn't THAT bad. You might want to look into taking Arnica for a speedy recovery. I haven't done, but it's been recommended by many on this website. I think I'll give it a try this time, when I plan to have a nother c-section.

Busy on here today!

I've only got 3 days to do next week - then I'm on maternity leave... hoorah. Can't believe I am nearly 35 weeks!!

Brighteyes, sending you ((hugs)) (seen them done on other threads, my first attempt though!). C-Section sounds daunting doesn't it, but I know several friends who have had to have them, and they have all recovered quickly and the scar is incredibly faint. I am pleased they are monitoring you carefully.

This baby inside feels so big now. I have a lot of aches and stitches under my right boob (by ribs), but pleased that although the bump is massive, don't seem to have gained any extra stretch marks - yet! (as have teenage ones on my hips already). I bought this 'bio-oil' stuff from sainsbury's yesterday (to add to my skincare collection for this pregnancy!) that is supposed to prevent stretch marks. So I now have four lots of creams to slap on the bump each morning and night!

northstar · 13/04/2005 22:35

Oh well, another day over and one less to go til our babies arrive goodnight all x

logic · 14/04/2005 08:07

Had plenty of chocolate thanks myermay Trouble is that dh can't resist it either and is putting on weight right along with me, bless him.

Been up most of the night, just couldn't sleep. Ended up on here at about 1am and then the cat brought in a vole at 5am. That got exciting!

DP has packed his own labour bag. How cute is that!

logic · 14/04/2005 09:42

rotfl fisil. What on earth did he pack in it??

OP posts:
fisil · 14/04/2005 09:53

Dp's labour bag (well, the bits he's told me about - would it be rude to peek a look?): Ipod, speakers, spare batteries, video camera, digital camera (new), digital camera (old - back up), shorts, T-shirt.

The thing is, 1/4 of my labour bag is full of snacks and drinks for him too!

BTW, I am feeling really nauseous at the moment, like morning sickness. It actually had me awake in the night. Does this happen towards the end, or is it coincidence?

yeah, I was wondering what he would put in it too. This was cute at first, but it's just occurred to me that he's going to sit there snacking while the midwives will have cut you off from all food/drink. That's what happens in Epsom, anyway. I think every hospital is different, but some won't let mum eat anything just in case you have to be whisked off for an emergency caesarean (you can't eat for a general -- can't remember why though). This obviously turns out to be a good thing for some people, so I won't criticise the policy. But, it's not a lot of fun to be staarving and dying of thirst while hubby chomps away.

northstar · 14/04/2005 15:44

Quick funny story - last night dp was feeling down, he had fish and chips tues night, and it was horrid, then he went with his work buddies for food wed night and it wasnt nice either.
I was too busy with ds's birthday to cook, but then when it was all over, about 9pm and we were snuggled up on the couch I wanted to cheer him up so i whispered in his ear "it's stew tomorrow".
Well, he nearly had a heart attack - jumped up off the couch and was pale as a ghost. He kept saying "it cant be it cant be, I'm not ready"
Turns out he thought I was telling him "it's DUE tomorrow" PMSL i nearly weed laughing at him

fisil · 14/04/2005 16:23

lol northstar.

I was a bit shocked about the fact that I wasn't allowed to eat last time, uwila. I'd bought all the snacks for myself, not dp! This time I have chosen snacks he wants cos I don't want him to leave the room at any point, whatever time of day I go into labour! Besides which, I know how sick I was last time, so I'm happy to watch him eat, but I will be very happy not to be eating myself! Oh yes, and I chain ate twix bars throughout the night once I was on the post natal ward, and the morning actually (cos I finally fell asleep in time for breakfast!)

uwila · 14/04/2005 17:02

Oh northstar, I wish it was my DH who had done that... just so I could laugh at him for the rest of his life. Very funny.

As for the food, well, you are much nicer than I am. If I have to go through labour (God forbid!) I'm banning him from everything I can't have. He's already asked if he can try the gas and air... I said NO. But, I won't be doing the labour/delivery thing anyway if I get a say in the matter.

fashill · 14/04/2005 19:26

Much love to you Brighteyes . As everyone else has said as long as baby arrives safely and you are okay then it's for the best. I'd be feeling like you if I thought I had to have a C section but I would be having it for a good reason. Talked about them at our NCT class last night and I'm not as scared of the process as I was before. Just get all the info you can to put your mind at ease.

Flyingdog - the same thing happened to friend of mine and then she went back and everything was okay, then another scan said the baby was small again, and then was told it was fine again! She gave birth to a lovely little girl last week, who although only 5lb 10, was in perfect health! Hope that makes you feel better and let us know how it goes

lol northstar!!

I've had a really bad cold for over a week and have been feeling totally fed up about not being able to do anything and then on Sat I discovered some stretch marks under my bump and couldn't stop crying, was the worst time for me to find them! I already have stretch marks from puberty all on my hips and bum but just didn't want anymore and thought I may have escaped them. Luckily they are only small and silvery but I have been using bio oil (as I did before PG for my old marks) which, I think,is the reason why they aren't too bad as it has faded my old ones. Does anyone know what i can use to stop them feeling sore though?!?And if I use loads of differnt creams/oils at once will they still work?!?

And does anyone know where I can get a mum to be on board sign for the car?! I've seen them in cars but not managed to find one.

Re the Parentcraft classes, we went to the 1st one and DP thougt it was a waste of time as we covered most of the general stuff at the NCT classes but then really enjoyed the 2nd one and we've our last one tomorrow. I think they're good as you get to speak with the people who may actually be looking after you and are able to ask for factual answers about their processes etc. There were a few women whose partners couldn't make it and hopefully they benefitted from it and we didn't think amy less of them bwing on their own!!

ppheewwww.... Boy have I got a lot to say tonight!! Haven't been on for a few days so catching up!! Sorry to bore you all

hollya · 14/04/2005 21:47

hi, not posted for a while- computer had no internet as changed broadband suppliers!! hellish!!
been taking raspberry leaf tablets for a few days and bh have been getting stronger. dunno if this is due to the tablets or just one of those things, but it makes me feel better to think that things are on their way.

Preggars · 14/04/2005 21:49

Hi Hollya... can't be bothered to check the stats page,.. so when are you due??

northstar · 14/04/2005 21:49

Preggars · 14/04/2005 21:52

I was wondering if to take raspberry leaf tea, but I'd bet I'd go in to early labour if I'd start now.. although I know its not for that!

hollya · 14/04/2005 21:55
