Thanks Brighteyes, that makes me feel much better. The bath worked - I'll try the drugs now too!

Brighteyes · 08/03/2005 18:51

Please have a word with your midwife though Fisil. I would hate to have been flippant about something that god forbid was more serious than I was suffering. Best to get it checked out just in case

fisil · 08/03/2005 18:53

I'm not sure I "have" a midwife. I have an emergency no. at the hospital or my GP (who is very good). So I guess if it is still going on tomorrow I'll ring my GP, and if it gets worse I'll call the hospital no.

uwila · 08/03/2005 20:10

Good evening everyone. Regarding hair growth, I have hear that you have a sort of protein surge when you are pregnant and that is what makes your hair and nails grow faster in pregnancy. But, I can't explain places where it grows less. Perhaps it has to do with hormones?

Ah, 3d scan in motion. Very cool. I'm jealous.

We've got a pran amd car seat on order, and the rest we'll just make do with the leftovers from DD. We have bought her a bed so that DS can have the cot. We really must get moving on that transfer. Problem is we haven't put the bed together. Best get on the job!

shhhh · 08/03/2005 20:25

Following on from what Holly said about 3d scans: The 3d is the baby seen in 3d in a picture format and the 4d is the baby still in 3d but with movement as they move around in your tummy. dh & I had one about 2 weeks ago and we found it to be an amazing experience. To be able to see what features baby has already (although these will prob change slightly over the next few months) is such a nice and reasurring thing to see. Our baby looked so cute and looked content being in my tummy for the time being, she appeared to be laughing and smiling!
Good luck with the scan Holly and enjoy it. We did and still enjoy it now when we put the dvd on for the 10000th time.!!

Maddison · 08/03/2005 20:51

hi everybody, i can't believe how welcoming everybody is here!!

Fisil i have the same period type aches/pains as you and when i mentioned it to my midwife she had a feel of my tummy and said it could be a limb there, but they aren't bad enough for me to have to take paracetamol (the backache is starting to get pretty bad now though!!

northstar · 09/03/2005 08:43

Morning everyone, and welcome to madison Thanx brighteyes for the info, not sure how i could be producing those keytones then, as i'm eating like a horse.
Great news about tex111, lots and lots of fingers crossed for her and all the new mums-to-be.
im leaving stuff in loft till baby is here, then dp can get it all down. Has anyone else had baby turn right around while they're in the bath? It's really wierd as you can see and feel EVERYTHING, each arm and leg in turn

logic · 09/03/2005 09:12

Ooh that's weird, northstar! I've never seen the baby move round although I'm only too aware when she has!

Do you know whether you are having a boy or a girl, Maddison?

OP posts:
Brighteyes · 09/03/2005 09:58

Northstar, despite eating plenty your body isn't able to extract the glucose from the carbohydrates because your insulin level is all over the place after coming off the diabetic diet. Its the insulin thats required to extract the glucose. If the insulin is not doing its job and the body is having to resort to fat rather than glucose then ketones are the produced.

northstar · 09/03/2005 10:01

oh, and sorry to be so desperately thick but is that bad?

Brighteyes · 09/03/2005 10:10

Well I won't beat around the bush. The research done has been quite patchy but it appears that ketones during pregnancy can result in babys with low IQ and development problems.

Don't panic though this link hasn't been confirmed and alot of research contradicts this.

If you want to monitor your ketone levels you can buy ketones sticks at most large chemists. They're just urine sticks you use first thing in the morning and the darker the colour of the stick the more ketones in your system. Its a good way of keeping check if your concerned.

Sorry don't mean to alarm you, just one more thing for us pregnant women to worry about. Like I say though theres no conceret evidence but better safe than sorry

By the way - How you feeling today fisil?

Maddison · 09/03/2005 11:43

Morning everybody!

Don't know about you lot but i'm starting to find it really hard to sleep lately. I think it was past 2 this morning by the time i got to sleep and am absolutely shattered today - doesn't help that DS is a very active 4 yr old . Still, i shouldn't complain, my SIL is pg, due 2 weeks before me, and she has it BAD with sickness, alopecia, spd and low iron levels in her blood.

We found out we are having another boy - we weren't going to find out but DS was adamant he was having a baby brother so we thought it would be better to find out to prepare him should it have been a girl.

logic · 09/03/2005 11:50

I can empathise with the sleep thing, Maddison. We have a teething, bed-hating 2 yr old ds. Still, my Mother's Day present arrived this morning - a cuddly rabbit filled with wheatgerm and lavender which you can microwave. It is supposed to help you sleep so we will see tonight!

OP posts:
fisil · 09/03/2005 12:27

I used one of those on my back last night, logic - they are fantastic. Feel confident now that it is just growing pains/ache.

Had a rubbish night cos on top of the sleeplessness I have reached the top of my cold and felt just dreadful. Got through 2 pints of water during the night, but still felt totally dry and thirsty - whenever I slept I dreamt about drinking water! GP said it's probably on its way out but gave me a prescription for if it hasn't gone in a couple of days. I thought we were meant to get immunity with pregnancy!

Holly290505 · 09/03/2005 13:33

Afternoon all...Just come back from antenatal clinic with a diagnosis of low blood pressure. Explains feeling woozy and tired but the advice was sit a rest with your feet up - which is a lovely idea if it wasn't for 6 weeks left of work and ongoing Masters degree. Terrifed of having my maternity leave triggered by a day off - I want the time with the baby!

Still I shall just have to make sure dp waits on me hand and foot! Anyone else had low bp - apparently its normal at this stage because the blood vessels slacken but should right itself over the next month.

Also been given a growth scan date for 33 weeks - we are replete with scans now!! Hope everyone is well x

Tinker · 09/03/2005 13:36

Are these scans at 33/34 weeks teh norm in some HAs? I've not been offered one but know someone (elsewhere) who has

logic · 09/03/2005 13:39

Colds are so grim during pg Apparently, you can have normal lemsip because it doesn't have any decongestant in it - as I found out after I'd had flu.

Holly, a few of us had low bp earlier on in the pg. I felt really faint all the time and my vision kept greying out when I stood up. It did go away by itself eventually. I was told to rest too. Yeah right, as if that was an option!

OP posts:
logic · 09/03/2005 13:40

I haven't been offered a 33 week scan either. Saying that, in the HA that I should be giving birth in, they don't even do 12 week scans!

OP posts:
uwila · 09/03/2005 13:59

I haven't heard of thirty something week scans being a routine offering anywhere. I think something has to trigger a need for one, such as a growth scan. I have a 36 week scan booked because my placenta was low at the 20 weeks scan so they check it (per NICE guidelines) again at 36 weeks. Chances are it will have moved up, but they need to make sure someone doesn't have placenta previa. However, in my case, I would like a caesarean anyway. So if it is still too low, then I'll get my caesarean a lot more easily.

Oh, at least there is something I don't suffer from: sleep difficulties. That's not to say I don't feel sleep deprived, but that's only because the alarm goes off too early.

So glad hear of Tex111. Best of luck to her. I don't know how I would cope with a miscarriage. So very sad. Fingers crossed!

fisil · 09/03/2005 14:22

Holly, your employer cannot trigger your maternity leave until 36 weeks. I went off sick at 26 weeks and at first was doing sick notes, a fortnight at a time. Then my boss said she wanted to know where she was, and I had 3 doctors advising me to stop trying to get back to work, so I got a sick note from my GP up until 36 weeks, which is when my maternity leave will now start. I was planning to work until then, but had 2 weeks leave after which I will now lose, so I've been off sick since 26 weeks, and only lost 2 weeks full pay.

northstar · 09/03/2005 15:10

logic - lol at the heatable teddy, i got one for ds BUT they should come with a warning not to heat in the microwave unless your microwave is CLEAN - i ended up with a cute cuddly teddy, nice and warm and covered in bits of smelly tuna and mayo that had exploded in the microwave at some time in the past and a much cleaner microwave afterwards!
Brighteyes thankyou so much for your replies, i am going to contact the ante-natal clinic tomorrow for more information on my tests, and for the blood test results.

logic · 09/03/2005 15:38

pmsl at the microwave story, northstar!

OP posts:
Brighteyes · 09/03/2005 15:39

For those who have done this before can I ask a silly question? How many of you had an inny belly button that became an outty during pregnancy? And when did it pop out?

Mine looks like its been threatening to pop out for weeks but its still an inny at the moment.

Northstar let us know how you get on with the blood tests, good luck

northstar · 09/03/2005 15:45

Brighteyes, don't worry about the belly button - it'll gradually get closer and closer to the surface (mine is normally quite deep) and will eventually pop out. This just means your baby is "done" and nearly ready to come out of the oven (as one of my pg books says)
It will go back in afterwards - well mine did last time

logic · 09/03/2005 16:23

Not a silly question, Brighteyes. Pregnancy is so weird. I am slightly worried now though, my belly button popped out weeks ago. It is normally an inny but is now totally flat. Last time it went back in again afterwards but was never totally the same.
