poor you, chutney, poor you, verso.

am also feeling glum, fretful and totally and utterly overwhelmed. am in strange limboland - trying to finish dissertation, but unable to get the time to do it as am beginning to start to get paid work (teaching), which makes me so terrified, i can barely breathe. and then, underneath it all i know the only important thing is the sproglet, but then i haven't got any time to prepare, clean, redecorate etc etc.

not sleeping well and generally very moaney. apols.

kmp1 · 22/09/2008 21:22

Unbelieveable Chutney! I would have completely come unstuck (not unlike how I did with an online retailer today)
Anyway, I have a completely different question (prob should aim this at Veggie!)
I went to the dentist today (1st time in the UK) to get a filling repaired and a general scale clean and poilish. I was expecting the clean part to last 20-30mins as in Australia they do every tooth with the flouride stuff on the drill / polish thing but they did a really quick job and it was all of 5 mins??? Question is, is this normal in the UK or is it because I'm on the free maternity deal thingy?? DH hasn't been for ages and can't remember how thorough they usually are! Maybe I went to a dodgy one and I may need to change dentist???

Veggiemummy · 22/09/2008 21:39

no way kmp that is way too short, generally a routine scale & polish should last about 20mins and a more intensive one should last 30-40mins. I take longer than 5 mins to brush my teeth at home for a professional clean that is way too slow. I have to say i have never been to an NHS dentist for a maternity scale & polish i have gum disease and have a 20min one every 3months whilst pregnant, i just go to a private one as DH's work dental cover covers most of the cost. However i have had one NHS S&P done and it was fairly good and about 30mins. How do your teeth feel, they can't possibly feel very clean.

kmp1 · 22/09/2008 21:51

No - they don't feel any different really except at the front where the most amount of plaque was built up (that's gone now)
I'm wondering if it's becuae I told the dentist that my gums have been bleeding a bit and tender since being pregnant? Should I go and register at a different dentist? They did tell me to come back in 3 months if I felt necessary.

kmp1 · 22/09/2008 21:55

Is there a limit to the amount of cleans I can get with this NHS card? I might just register at a different dentist and see what they say! (prob need 10 fillings at a different one!)

Veggiemummy · 22/09/2008 21:57

that is all the more reason to do a more intensive job, i would go back and tell them your not happy and want it done again. cheeky buggers they will prob charge the govt for a full clean and that is why they want you back in 3months for some easy money.

kmp1 · 22/09/2008 21:59

Yeah I know, I'm just nervous to go back to a dentist after complaining! I think I will just go to a different one and get a second routine appointment and see what happens there? I'm just not sure if I can do that with the free card?

Veggiemummy · 22/09/2008 22:10

i'm not really up on dentist so i don't know for sure but i don't think it would be recorded anywhere that you have already had care recently and even if it is, i don't think there is a limit on the amount of visits you can have just as long as you qualify (i.e. you are pregnant).

the massage lady who does the prenatal massage that is included with my maternity care package rang today t sort me out with an appointment. I get a one hour massage before the baby comes plus DH and i have a 1hr session after my massage so she can show him some massage techniques for pre & during the birth. I am soooooooooooooo looking forward to it but due to DH being away for work the next few weeks and then away in australia for 2 weeks i can't get to see her until early november, it seems so far away. oh well i guess by then i will really need one.

WG you have so much going on at the moment, can you get an extension on the due date for your dissertation, it would be good to have it sorted by the time the baby comes though as when you have that baby around you will want all you time for babyWG i will send you energy vibes. I hope you feel a bit better soon. will be thinking of you.

i wonder how Rosemerta is today, with her Nans funeral.

kmp1 · 22/09/2008 22:24

Yeah that's what DH said and he works for NHS so I'm going to regiter somewhere else! Yuk talk about overload on the dental visits! Might as well while it's free though.

Wow Veggie, you have pre natal care that includes massages! That sounds lovely...

Veggiemummy · 22/09/2008 22:28

i'm off to bed, i just spoke to DH he had a horrible dinner at his hotel poor thing when he is away apart from missing us he misses proper food. night night.

waitinggirl · 23/09/2008 03:43

VG - thx. up in the middle of the night fretting. have already had a crying fit, done some filing, and am now on MN. my self pity knows no bounds at 3.43am

JamInMyWellies · 23/09/2008 08:36

girls am so sorry some of you are feeling a bit crappy, its natural especially if its your first. I am on DC2 and still pooing myself about the state of the world how we will cope emotionally, financially and every other worry you can think of. Just keep on posting we will help each other through it.

Back to buggies again we have bought the P&T vibe and we are loving it. I had my niece over at the wkend and we chucked her in to to give the doubles bit a trial and it was still really easy to push and didnt feel much heavier (thank goodness). But we also have a maclaren that I use for shopping going up to town etc as it is so easy for tubes and buses etc. All I would say if you use public transport dont get anything too big first of with DS we had a quinny and although really comfy for him it was rubbish for London buses as the wheel base was so wide.

Indith love the arms reach bed looks really good a bit at the price though.

KMP I too am finding it difficult to find a good dentist the one we had in London was rubbish and its impossible to get into one down here. I lived in Dublin a couple of yrs ago and it was private dentists had a fab one my teeth were in great condition now they look rubbish.

Henally No7! Mad woman although one of my other mumsnet friends is also pregnant with her 7th and she is a superwoman. Hats off to you.

Chutney am and for you.

Have a good day all will pop in later.

pixsix · 23/09/2008 08:38

Arrgh my fave pair of over-the-bump maternity jeans are getting uncomfortable now. The band used to cover my whole bump and rest just under my boobs which was great but now it rests halfway down my bump which I find irritating. I guess it's only going to get worse!

WG I hope you've managed to have some sleep and that you're feeling a bit better today. Night frets are horrible.

SummerLightning · 23/09/2008 08:52

Hello everyone, sounds like everyone is suffering a bit one way or another.
Verso hope you got some sleep!
And wg too, hope you were not up too late stressing.

I am feeling a bit crap too, have doctors appt at 10 today and blood test tomorrow, so thought i should come in before appointment. DH is away and has the car to had to cycle in, and it has given me stomachache, so now I am thinking I should have just stayed in bed!!! But I want to leave early tonight so thought I would come in before (plus will be late in tomorrow after blood test). All these tests!! Tired and finding it hard to concentrate at work, even though I have loads to do.

chutney that man on the bus sounds terrible! I really don't envy you people on public transport, I came down to London to see a friend at the weekend and even at off-peak times was dreading the train and tubes! Fortunately it was fine as it was not too busy. It's easy to say just forget the stupid man, but I get really wound up by things like that too!

kmp, I have NHS dentist and I don't think that the clean I have takes half an hour? More like 10 minutes. I am not the person to ask though as I used to have a heart murmur and they have only just decided that they can do the proper clean thing on me (something to do with getting chest infections if you bleed when they do it or something), so I have only had it once recently. My teeth did feel really good afterwards though.

EffiePerine · 23/09/2008 09:29

Chutney: that is appalling, what a tosser . I'm lucky in that my usual bus journey to work means I get on near the begining of the route at both ends, so haul myself up the stairs and have a pretty peaceful journey. Was squashed on a bendy bus the other day and it was awful - no-one offered me a seat and then DS was sick 10 mins from home and I couldn;t really reah him to claen him up (he hates them too). If I can help it I will be avoiding busy buses and tubes from now on.

Verso: hope your cold is better.

Waitinggirl: sorry you are so stressed at the moment, can you divide stuff up into things that need to be done (and get extensions where you can) and things that can wait or can be done by other people? Can anyone help you out with the house stuff for eg? You never know until you ask

I have my GP appt on Thurs and am getting stressed at the poss that the baby isn't growing fast enough, my bump doesn't seem to have grown that much recently. Need to ring the hosp as well to check the date of my growth scan.

I think chocolate all round is the way to go today...

EffiePerine · 23/09/2008 09:30

SL: if I have a morning appt I don't come into work first, as it takes me about an hour to get here or back to the GP. If you feel guilty about it, is there anything you can take home for the times you can't be in the office? Or justhave a nap

JamInMyWellies · 23/09/2008 09:51

I'm off out now am taking orders for vast quantities of chocolate. I myself will be investing in a large bag of minstrels.

Veggiemummy · 23/09/2008 10:08

Effie my bump measurement at 24 weeks and 27 weeks were pretty much the same it was done by 2 different midwives but i have noticed also that i don't look any bigger it just moves up and down so sometimes is low and sometimes its high but otherwise no bigger. I will have a look at DS's notes to see if my bump grew much in the same time when pregnant with him. Not sure if that helps.

rosmerta · 23/09/2008 10:31

hi all, just popping in quickly again, don't seem to get much time to post atm.

waitinggirl re bras, I'm still wearing underwired ones, being amply endowed as well I hate non-underwired ones as they don't feel as supportive.

hennaly welcome, number 7 wow!

beans re pushchairs, when we were looking the other day our favourites were the Bugaboo Bee & the iCandy Cherry. Having said that we've decided to use the money on something else as the pushchairs we have are fine. Fwiw we didn't get our Mclaren until ds was about 1yr old.

Sorry if I've missed anyone, hope you're all ok.

thx all - feeling reasonably better, but have to lead a workshop this afternoon, which i don't feel qualified to do and which has probably been the major source of angst.

mw appt this morning where she gratifyingly told me i had really strong abdominal muscles. that was nice to hear.

so... now off to tackle the 12 year olds...

Beans33 · 23/09/2008 11:03

Chutney - that's vile - poor you! I hopped on a bus this morning, just for a few stops, so wasn't too phased about a seat, but am always interested to see if anyone does give up their seat for me. Looked around and quite a few men caught my eye and looked away and then this girl gave up her seat for me - very kind of her. Luckily my 2nd bus starts where I get on, so I always get a seat on it. Had to run to catch it though, with bump thudding up and down! Not so nice. Beast has been quiet ever since!

I don't think I've grown much either in the last couple of months. I'm 29 weeks now, so only 2 weeks off 7 months, and I really don't look like I'm that big for my timing! I was fretting at 5 months that I was enormous, but it all seems to have stopped sprouting now, so now, of course, I'm worrying that I'm too small!

Luckily, though, blood pressure had gone down a bit yesterday, so feeling more relaxed about that. And on Thursday we're getting our new (2nd hand!) single bed for the nursery and the cot is coming on Sunday - so it's starting to feel like the bambino actually is going to come!

Not only am I hungry all the time, but I'm also sleepy a lot of the time. I'm not sleeping that badly but when my alarm goes off it is SUCH a struggle to drag myself out of bed. And then I spend the day in a kind of daze until bedtime! I actively look forward to my next sleep! Is anyone else that tired?

rosmerta · 23/09/2008 11:07

chutney I've just seen your post, there's no words to describe that tosser .

emmanbump · 23/09/2008 11:25

Hi All,

Hugs to everyone who is feeling down / ill / sorry for themselves today.

Can't believe that idiot on the bus. Have a lot of sympathy as I get the tube to work daily. It's not just the not being offered a seat it's the pushing and general rudeness of people that makes the journey so horrid. Thankfully I get a seat in the mornings all the way so it's only the journey home which feels like a fight.

Hope everyone has a nice day or at least some choc

Beans33 · 23/09/2008 11:27

I do find people fall into 2 very definite camps - those who are nice and helpful and those who seem to think pregnant women are difficult and annoying and seem to go out of their way to be unpleasant. Which just isn't true! I don't expect special treatment, but just manners would be nice. The amount of elbows in the tummy I've had, when people can actually see I'm pregnant! Grrr. I don't understand why people have to behave badly. It's not like we're doing anything to upset them! I think I'd have cried a lot if that had happened to me, Chutney - bloody arsehole.

SummerLightning · 23/09/2008 11:34

Back from doctors, he is head down and the right size, hurray! But got some urgent work guff to do now, so had better go!
wg good luck for his afternoon, sure it will be better than you think and you will feel better afterwards
effie yeah I would ahve done, have glucose thingy tomorrow as well though, that is at 9:30 so going to have a lie in tomorrow!
