Morning ladies!
Beautiful coat Effie and lovely tunic too Beans. I went to see a friend yesterday who gave me a whole black back of maternity gear! She is a bit of a yummy too so there was lots of Isabella Oliver and some non maternity but suitably shaped Ted Baker etc! I'm in heaven!

Happy birthday Purple!! Hope you have a lovely day...I scoffed a good half of a tub of Ben and Jerrys Cherry Garcia last night but it was the yoghurt one as opposed to the ice cream one....not that I noticed that until after I'd eaten it!

So glad it is the weekend and DH is around to help with DS. He's being a good boy but I started potty training in earnest yesterday and could do with the support.

Catch up soon xxxx

Hiya

I have a horrible cold and am feeling very sorry for myself. My throat hurts, my head hurts and all my bones ache. DH and I are meant to be going on a luxury boutique break for 24 hours tomorrow. Its all booked and non-refunadable and we even persuaded MiL to have DD. Right not I am not sure I am up up going .

Turnip and Invisible - a little allergy tale to give you hope. When DD was 5 months I gave her a bottle of formula (until then she just had BM). Within seconds her face had swollen and she had huge hives all over, then she vomited and had diahorrea. It was very scarey. Our paeditrician did tests and she came up as allergic to cow's milk protein and egg. We were told some kids grow out of it and others don't. Now DD is 2.2 and at her 2 year check she had a dairy challenge and she can now eat cheese and products with cooked milk and egg. If she has raw milk or yoghurt she still gets a tiny rash but its nothing like it was and she hardly notices. We feel very lucky and I hope your DD's have a similar tale to tell.

poisondwarf · 20/09/2008 12:26

Morning all,

InvisibleHand re the allergies - DS is 17 months at the moment and thankfully doesn't seem to be having any reactions to stuff now, which is a relief cos I suffered a lot with eczema as a kid and even now have the odd allergic reaction (in fact am staying at my mum's at the moment and have been having a lot of breathing difficulties - could be feathers, dust or damp). Anyway when he was a few months old and starting on solids he was getting a lot of eczema-type stuff on his face so we were really keeping an eye on what he was eating. Then he got hives quite badly for a few days (they didn't seem to bother him but were quite unsightly) but we couldn't pinpoint it to any food in particular. Then I realised he'd had a new soft toy in the last few days. I washed it but he was then getting reactions just by sitting on his playmat, so I washed that and anything else I could think of that could have come in contact with the new toy, and that did the trick. Could it have been something like that maybe? BTW I've also had a reaction to kiwi fruit in the past (only once though, oddly - it was a really overripe one - but I did look it up and it's apparently not uncommon and is becoming more prevalent).

zoejeanne yes, I had the funny heart thing quite badly when pregnant with DS. It felt sometimes like my heart was lurching, missing several beats a minute then racing to catch up. I was a little bit concerned cos a GP had once told me I had a heart murmur (which was a load of rubbish in the end). I mentioned it to the midwife and she straight away sent me to the consultant, who referred me for a full heart check-up (ECG and a 24-hour heart monitor). Turned out my heart is in fine shape - what I thought was missing beats was actually extra beats, and the palpitation thing is very common in pregnancy. They also told me that although it happens throughout the day and night, you tend to notice it more when you're at rest. It was great to have a check-up though - you wouldn't normally get that until you'd developed a serious problem. Anyway, when all this was happening I did a lot of reading about it on the internet and came across a possible association between palpitations and magnesium deficiency. I'd also come across magnesium deficiency in relation to leg cramps, which I was suffering from at the time. Bought some high-strength magnesium supplements from Holland & Barrett and they did seem to help immediately for both the cramps and the palpitations. Also stopped caffeine pretty much altogether and that made a difference too. I am getting them occasionally in this pregnancy too but nowhere near to the same degree (even though I'm not taking supplements or watching my caffeine so much).

Happy birthday Purple79! LadyT have a great holiday.

Off to my nephew's 2nd birthday/brother's 40th later today. Really fancy having a couple of drinks but will be driving back - probably a good thing as I could see myself getting carried away.

Shame about the meet-up last night but I can make next Friday so hopefully I should be able to meet a few more of you then. Will go and post on the meet-up thread now.

EffiePerine · 20/09/2008 20:05

Hurrah, I have bought some more baby stuff! Now feeling v organised. Took Rosmerta's advice and got one of these in the newborn size so we should be sorted for first clothes:

www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B00115EVTE/sr=1-1/qid=1221937428/ref=sr_1_1/203-4092001-0299944?ie=UTF 8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44482031&mcb=core

plus 14 muslin squares which will do me for a while. Only thing I want now is one of those olioli changing mats, then I'm done (well, until the baby arrives and we see how big it is and stuff )

rosmerta · 20/09/2008 21:41

Hi all, hope everyone had a nice evening out last night.

We still haven't bought anything! We did go and look at some pushchairs today though, liked the icandy cherry & bugaboo bee. Tbh though, I don't want to spend £300+ on another pushchair, especially when the one we've got is ok. The only reason I want one is so the seat faces me for longer! I might see if I can pick one up second hand though.

Anyway, that was me just popping in quickly, I need to get some sleep. I'll catch up properly tomorrow.

Oh cute Effie..little tiny clothes..nothing like them!!!!

Kimberly1979 · 20/09/2008 22:56

invisible That's funny that someone stopped to ask if you'd had an accident. But people in Atlanta are usually pretty friendly so that's not too surprising. That's one of the things we love about London is being able to walk everywhere! Atlanta traffic was always a nightmare. It's nice to be able to walk instead of being stuck in traffic.

Has anyone else become a cleaning addict? I can't stop! All I see is dirt. I scrubbed the bathroom and kitchen today! I also had a moment where I wanted to buy paint and just repaint everything in our flat! Must be the hormones as I'm not normally a clean freak.

Kimberly1979 · 20/09/2008 22:58

rosmerta saw some nice used pushchairs on gumtree.com I think there may have been a bugaboo, a few mamasand papas and silver crosses.

rosmerta · 21/09/2008 08:16

Thanks Kimberley, will go & have a look

Check out ebay we got our DS's quinny from there brand new for about 100squid cheaper than the shops we also got the P&T vibe for DS and No.2 for way cheaper than in the shops.

Veggiemummy · 21/09/2008 11:08

morning all hope your all having nice weekends, still hoping to come next friday we are driving down friday around lunchtime so should get there in time just depends on how sleepy i am.

still having evil indigestion feel like i don't want to eat cos it will just burn.

It's all for a good cause though, i'm feeling so in love with veggiebaby at the mo, up until recently i wasn't feeling as i connected to him as i had been with DS but am chatting a bit more to him (mainly in my head not out loud and in public) and feeling a bit closer. DS has been feeling him kick a bit which he was finding exciting until this morning when he did a massive kick that made half of my tummy move DS had his hand on my tummy and pulled it away immediately and went a bit quiet. i asked him if he was ok and he said it had scared him a bit. I guess seeing half of your mother belly move would be quite freaky for a 3year old.

Veggiemummy · 21/09/2008 11:13

i also got a really cheap quinny on ebay and there is a lady on there that sells the baskets for underneath them.

reban · 21/09/2008 18:23

i got my quinney cheaper on ebay too. Its second hand but in fab condition and we got the chasis, (sp?) carrycot attachment, pushchair attachment, changing bag, basket, and footmuff for £103! I found you just have to watch out for ones in your area and bid late to get a bargain!

JamInMyWellies · 21/09/2008 19:41

Use auction snipper tisd vv good.

katie3677 · 21/09/2008 20:43

Veggie, my DS got a kick in the head tonight from baby and got a bit freaked out. Then kept asking me to do it again, baby didn't cooperate a 2nd time though.

hennaly · 21/09/2008 21:25

hi im due Dec 9th with baby number 7

theyoungvisiter · 21/09/2008 21:45

number 7?! Wow! Very impressed.

I am trying to explain the bump a bit to DS but not sure how far it's going in at the moment. I just bought a book called "There's a house inside my mummy" which is very sweet. I must be hormonal as I choked up a bit reading it to DS and had to stop and surreptitiously wipe my eyes before carrying on

Veggiemummy · 21/09/2008 21:58

oh a kick in the head your poor DS suppose soon they'll get used to it and be expecting it on demand.

how nice was the weather this weekend.

waitinggirl · 22/09/2008 10:19

can i ask: is anyone else still wearing underwired bras? i realise i should probably change to the non underwired, but being amply endowed, i need some structure and feel so much more confident with a bit of scaffolding.

can anyone recommend good styles of non underwired bras? thx

SummerLightning · 22/09/2008 10:34

Are underwired bras so bad? I read they were ok if they fit you properly, but then I got told off by the M&S fitting woman when I went to get measured.
Don't wear them now because I had to get a few new ones as the old ones didn't fit so just got non-wired ones (and am not that well endowed so doesn't really matter to me)

hattyyellow · 22/09/2008 11:08

Morning all!

Hennaly welcome!

Effie what a gorgeous coat and what cute little clothes!

Kimberley I am also worryingly bothered about our house being a mess and dirty etc..which is a bit depressing to try and counteract with toddler twins creating mess as fast as I clean!

DH got very worried I was nesting too early yesterday as I made two vats of soup and hoovered the whole house! It did earn me an afternoon in bed resting though .

Veggie so sweet you communing with baby and DS. My two don't quite get the movements and they also look a bit nervous if they do feel anything - I guess it is a bit wierd for them but you so want them to feel things and be involved don't you?

They've started counting in the baby when we talk about things which is lovely. If we talk about holidays next year, they will ask where the baby will sleep and if we go out for a coffee, they will say that the baby is coming too in my tummy. I found some lovely cardigans at a charity shop on Saturday and put them in the moses basket to wash later on. They were so excited by how tiny they were and that the baby will have its own clothes! It's lovely .

Summer and Waiting I always heard that you shouldn't wear underwired as they can restrict the milk ducts...

DH has gone to Ikea today. Very jealous, but it makes sense for one of us to go without DD's who are at nursery while I'm working all day. Want to be wandering around looking at baby stuff rather than typing!

How'd the meet up go on Friday? Very jealous!

EffiePerine · 22/09/2008 11:16

Summer: I think underwireds are fine as long as they fit and you find them comfortable. IME M&S know sod all about bra fitting anyway, so would discount any advice!

Am sitting at my desk hoovering up sweets: we have one of those Gt Ormond Street donation boxes where you pay a quid and get a bag of sweets. They have been doing very well out of me in the last 6 months . And they have proper spearmint chews, just hope no-one rings when my jaws are welded together.

GP appt on Thurs, first time I've seen anyone for weeks.

kmp1 · 22/09/2008 11:18

ooh I'd better get new bra's. I've been wearing a couple of u/w one's that were too big for me before but are now too small! I keep finding all the nursing bra's are only in massive sizes though?
I got my Out-n-About Nipper off Ebay 50 pounds cheaper than in the shop! I'm addicted to Ebay these days!

Beans33 · 22/09/2008 11:42

How was Friday's meet up? so sorry not to be there - got home from work at 5.30, slept til 7.15 and got up for a bite to eat (cooked by DH) then back to bed at 9.30 and asleep by 10.00 through until 9.00 the next morning with only one wee wake!!! Brilliant. Must have needed it.

We went to John Lewis yesterday, armed with vouchers. Absolutely brilliant - so much stuff there. BUT we are now having kittens about pushchairs/prams etc.

We did like the Bugaboo chameleon the most when we were in there, but the minute we came out, the cold light of day struck us - I mean, £680 for a pram thing. The other thing we thought we might do is just get a cheapy pram and then a maclaren buggie, which they can go in from around 4 months onwards. What does everyone think? I know we've had this chat before, but it's just so daunting! the other possibility is a phil and ted's, with the cocoon bit attached so we can use it as a pram initially. But we worried that it was a bit exposed to the elements. Plus John Lewis don't do them, so we couldn't use our vouchers!! But then we've got one lined up for the 2nd as well, which we're keen to get on and have asap. AAAGH! My brain is frazzled.

Beans33 · 22/09/2008 11:43

Not sure my last sentence made sense - I meant then we've got a pushchair/pram lined up for 2nd bambino if we get on and have another one as quickly as we're hoping!
