Sorry - I meant to add that I had to ask for my form from the GP - no one volunteered it.

waitinggirl · 19/09/2008 13:44

thx verso and emmaandbump - am self-employed, so suppose i tell the inland revenue. ah, the joys of bureaucracy

Verso · 19/09/2008 13:45

effie gorgeous coat!! How I wish I were still a size 14 >drifts off into a reverie

reban · 19/09/2008 13:45

Morning all
Im starting to get the when are you due it cant be long now comments, which are driving me crazy! Baby (and bump) has had a massive growing spurt in the last 3ish weeks so i do feel absolutely massive .. just wish people would stop pointing it out

veggie some of my maternity tops are getting too short for me too but i always have that problem. Im only 5ft 7in but have quite a long body, so i wear long length tops normally. Unfortunately you cant get long or tsll range maternity wear so will just have to make do with what ive got!

went to do some christmas shopping today in the 2 hours i had while ds1 was at nursery and managed to grab some bargains. If you are near a decent sized boots they are clearing out some of last years toys and baby stuff to make way for christmas stock. A lot of it has already gone but i managed to grab a few bargains for the mountains of children i have to buy for!

EffiePerine · 19/09/2008 13:52

Xmas presents? Everyone is getting stuff off Amazon this year. I signed up to the free express delivery thingy so am making best use of it! Esp as we won't be travelling over Christmas so can can stuff to people direct. Will be reminding everyone to update their wishlists in November, then do the whole shebang in an evening

zoejeanne · 19/09/2008 13:52

WG I got the MAT B1 at my last MW appt (24 weeks) - but I had to ask for it. I was originally told I could get it at 21 weeks, but then I had to wait until 24. Oddly, the form says 'do not complete until the patient is within 14 weeks of her expected due date' - but then legally you have to notify your employer with no less than 15 weeks - so how do you do that without a MAT B1? Apparently, at our doctors, the prescriptions people can complete one, so you may not need to actually see someone, you could just ring and order as for a prescription.

verso I've had a slughtly blocked nose right through - and just this week I've got peed off too. At yoga we were doing this nostril breathing thing and I couldn't actully get enough air in through my nostrils and went a bit light headed, so quickly switched to breathing through my mouth. V annoying.

And on Mum's - love mine to bits, but she is also the most annoying person ever (but only I can say that, cause she's my Mum!) And annoyingly, its all the traits I've inherited that irritate me the most - so not looking forward to being her age and actually being her! Is it possible to irritate yourself?

Beans33 · 19/09/2008 14:26

I've just bought this. Don't know why, think it's really sweet though.

I got the MATB1 some time ago from MW - she just handed it over. And I just handed it to work. No idea what happens with it now! I've just left it be.

Work is such a hassle. Really want to be in the garden at home!

zoejeanne · 19/09/2008 14:43

Just had a thought popped into my head - recently I've had the odd heart palpitation type thingy (medical term there!!), just a couple of flutters that subsided and not because I was doing anything strenuous. Anyone else had this? I've been meaning to ask if it's normal for a while. Should I mention it to the MW? (if I remember to ask her, considering I keep forgetting to mention it on here despite logging on daily ...)

waitinggirl · 19/09/2008 14:50

i can really feel my heart beat all over my body - sometimes in my back, sometimes in my arms and shoulders - i think it's because we've got way more bloody volume pumping around ourselves. also we're way more attuned to our bodies now we've got a little one in there. as for flutters/palpitations - i sometimes can't get my breath back for a while, and am really aware of my heartbeat - even though i've done nothing strenuous - i think it's just what's going on with us. but, of course, if you're worried, talk to the doctor/mw.

Beans33 · 19/09/2008 15:12

I get those fluttery things every now and again and just tend not to worry about them. They pass and think they're probably just as a result of extra blood. If worried, definitely talk to GP/MW.

This happens every day - 3pm comes and I am tiiiiiirrrrred! Roll on 4.30. Can hardly keep my eyes open.

Gosh, I find it so boring that I can't walk through the office without at least one person commenting on how I look! I know people mean well, but it is a bit boring! Wow, grumpy old cow, me!

kmp1 · 19/09/2008 15:14

Hi all, Loveley weather in London - Sorry if I'm duplicating here, as I just scanned through a bit as so much catching up to do! I went to H&M as it's getting really cold and I have nothing!!! I'm tall 5'9 and I found these jumper / dress things (non-maternity) with a cowl neck? They are like a long jumper on me and have some ribbing? (stretchy gathered part) which sits under the bust to pull it in and therefore gives a nice shape - very flattering if you are tall. I only ordered one size bigger than I normally wear and it still has plenty of room for more bump growth! I also got a nice long sleeved top (also non-maternity) in my usual size which ties under the bust and is quite long plus it's also long sleeved and quite flattering as it gives shape. They are def the best as their things seem to be longer. Each item I got was 15 pounds!
Re: MATB1 I was given mine at the 20 week scan but my employer needed it 15 weeks before the expected week of childbirth. Most need it at 27 weeks I think.
Hope all are well Effie all ok?

Purple79 · 19/09/2008 15:35

emmanbump · 19/09/2008 16:06

zoejeanne · 19/09/2008 16:08

happy birthdya purple - I will also make sure I eat lots tomorrow to celebrate for you!

Have a good weekend all

EffiePerine · 19/09/2008 16:11

Have a great birthday Purple

ZJ: I remember getting palpitations when pg with DS, no sign this time. Ask your mw, but I think it's pretty common. If you get breathless as well, get yourself checked out.

Kmp: thanks for asking, hopefully nothing too serious just usual family crisis stuff . Too complicated to explain really.

ZJ i have the palpitations a few times now during preg it's something to do with hormones and blood volume, if they are difficult to deal with my MW suggested breathing in deeply through your nose for 3 counts and then breathing out slowly through your mouth but with pursed lips to the count of 6.

happy birthday for tomorrow Purple

I've got the stuffed nose thing too but barely noticing due to horrendous indigestion, coupled a decreased appetite and if i can eat i can barely manage half a sandwich or meal serving. Going out tonight for DH's birthday and it is a pay by the 2 or 3 course meal i think i will barely handle 1 course. Luckily i carbed up for the 6 months up til this week otherwise i would be wasting away!!!

Glad my mum isn't the only crazy one, i love her too but couldn't bare her at the birth and she drives me mad criticizing the way i mother my DS, the worst thing is she doesn't tell me directly she either makes negative comments about other mums she knows who do similar things to what i do, or tells my brothers or sister what i am apparently doing wrong, they let me know in a joking way but it does annoy me.

Veggiemummy · 19/09/2008 17:45

Turnip a shame your niece is not home yet but good to hear she is looking well and healthy apart from the apnoeas, i'm really happy to hear it. How will they travel back to Ireland?

Hello everyone

No time to catch up...hope you are all well...off on hols tomorrow for two weeks...driving through France, Germany, Switz and Italy...take good care all xxxLT

Veggiemummy · 19/09/2008 19:26

surprisingly air on planes is cleaner than outside air due to being filtered 32 times a minute however i still get nervous about being so close to so many people with a small vulnerable baby i think ferry is much better option.

very few hospitals will issue apnoae monitors anymore and i can explain why but i havent time at the mo as i'm due to go out but can explain tomorrow if your interested. What they need to be looking for is if she can self recover from the apnoeas, many babies have these short periods of not prething but premmies don't always have the CO2 level reflex to self recover. She may be able to see if she could get a oxygen saturation machine reader when she gets back to Ireland from her local.

oh gotta go

TheInvisibleHand · 19/09/2008 19:48

Knackered here! Its been a long day, just thought I'd quickly check in before heading home.

Kimberley - afraid I am very vague about my Atlanta geography as when I've been I just get in a car and get driven around! I remember trying to go for a walk near my uncle's house and someone stopping to check we were OK as they assumed we had an accident as no one just walks around! My Atlanta relatives (and I have quite a few) live in the suburbs, but I think still basically in Atlanta. Last time I went was a few years ago for a wedding.

turnip - the allergies are a pain, but like you say, really hoping DD grows out of at least milk and egg. She's not even 18 months though, so we've got a while to wait it out. The kiwi fruit is an odd one - we discovered it when she helped herself to some from the fruit bowl and the results were quite dramatic! Thankfully as you say, that one is not too hard to avoid. Her consultant is Dr du Toit one of Professor Lack's sidekicks (you may have heard of as he seems to be the god of paediatric allergy). The odd (and worrying) thing about this reaction is that is didn't seem to have obviously been sparked by anything she ate. She came up in hives, but didn't have the runs etc which she would normally do if it was food related. But if its something environmental (pollen? cleaning agents?), that's a whole new kettle of fish for us....

purple - happy birthday for tomorrow!

Re palpitations, runs etc - yes, body seems to do all kinds of strange things, which I tend to accept as part and parcel of the weirdness of pregnancy! Definitely get out of breath much more quickly than would usually do and I'm sure the LO gives me the odd kick in the guts (that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it..)!

Hope all of you meeting up tonight have a lovely time

Turnip - I live in hope, although her almost 5 year old cousin still hasn't had the all clear for egg... We do have an epipen, but thankfully never had to use it yet. Last time they did do the common tree pollens, dustmites etc in her bloods, which all came up clear, which is why this thing is so infuriating! Facial swelling sounds worrying though - that's a tough one. Must say, I am always calmed by the fact that my BIL has severe nut allergies, but deals with them with very little fuss and without it seeming to get in his way too much. Hope we can work out as good a way of handling the situation for DD.

Sadly, only bits of Atlanta live up to gone with the wind...but its still kind of an interesting place.
