Veggie, every time you write about your baking it makes me hungry. I could just eat a butterfly cake. I haven't even got a sweet tooth (normally) but I could polish off a fairy cake or a scone now, no messing.

Turnip, I think booze is sadly off limits when you are in the early stages of IVF (just one of life's horrible ironies - booze usually is at times when a stiff drink would be just the ticket!) I think you lot are all being considerably more abstemious than me though

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 16:54

oh it's only a little one, It's called challenging obesity and will help out with the school nursing work i want to get back to when DC's are bigger. As i'm not working and have a little spare time at moment with DS at nursery 3 arvos a week i thought i should do a little professional improvement. It is v.basic the first week is learning to read graphs and calculating BMI's so think i will be ok with it all. Also doing the BF course but as it just the first part of the course and is spread out over several months so i'm hoping it is not too much homework.

I was thinking about the epidural thing and i hope i'm not going to get growled at cos everyones experience is different, but i didnt have too much pain in the 2nd stage. The first stage hurt a fair bit, but i figured it wasn't worth fussing about (and having to leave the birth center) to get an epidural for. Maybe i will pay for that remark with this next labour, but apart from being very long (my 2nd stage was 3 hours) and exhausting and having the distinct feeling that i didnt know what i was doing pain wise it was ok. he got his little shoulders stuck and that bit hurt but he turn them eventually and on we went.

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 16:54

ladyt I doubt it, I have drunk alcohol quite regularly this pregnancy, not too much (max 1 pint/large glass of wine, usually less) per night, but sometimes (eg on holiday) more than than the recommended 1-2 times per week

Beans33 · 16/09/2008 16:54

Veggie - I'm one of the biggest in our group as well and I'm definitely not the most pregnant -damn it!!!

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 16:56

LT cross posted with you, i have both a savoury tooth and a sweet tooth but when up the duff i am def a sweet tooth.

LadyThompson · 16/09/2008 16:59

Oh good, Summer, I thought it was just me. I haven't gone mad but I've probably had 3-4 glasses of wine per week since the second trimester. One highly unexpected bonus of pregnancy has been that being this moderate with drinking for this long has made me feel that I will carry on drinking like this even after the baby is born**OK, unless I get one of those babies that cries ALL the blinking time, in which case all bets are off.

Veggie, I think a spot of professional improvement is a very smart idea.

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 17:01

Don't talk to me about cakes!!
I went swimming this morning and have been ravenous all day, eaten loads as well.

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 17:06

Yes LadyT, I have been surprised by how little cutting down on alcohol has bothered me.
I still go out with people I like spending time with and sit in the pub quite happily with a few cokes and a half pint and it's fine. I do miss the giggly feeling of getting a bit drunk though. I think it would have been harder a few years ago though when I used to go to bars/pubs that were more busy where you had to shout to be heard and stand up all night though. Now I just go to old man's pubs

rosmerta · 16/09/2008 17:11

I have such a terrible sweet tooth now! Can't resist any cakes or chocolate

I think I've only had a couple of glasses of wine this time around, much less than when I was pg with ds but really not that bothered. No doubt I'll be back on my one glass a night in a few months!

Veggie, course sounds good. I'd forgotten you were doing the bf one as well, must admit I do enjoy the antenatal course as it keeps my brain ticking over.

LadyT you only have to wait until the 25/11! i'm having my CS on the 10th Dec - where are you having yours? I can't find that list anymore - must be so many pages back...! Have the new girls Kim and Emma etc added to it yet? I've also had a couple of small wines a week - at one do we went to it was full of obgyn's and they didn't bat an eyelid!
Beans why do you say you are the biggest one here but not due first? Have you all been measuring bumps?

LadyThompson · 16/09/2008 18:19

Kmp, I'm at St Mary's in Paddington. I've only ever stayed there once before, when I had a tropical disease from Sri Lanka , so I had my own room then and I will do again, only this time I am paying for it! It's not the glammest of hospitals but I kind of like it. Penicillin was discovered there!! Let's hope it's now been eradicated

Turnip DH & I did a hypnobirthing course before DS was born and as part of the practice DH had to get me all relaxed and 'hypnotized' and then read these pre written kind of relaxation and visualisation to me. Most of them where great and very relaxing as well as quite reassuring and helped before the birth, ut one of the called Rose bud visualization we just could not do. the first line read, 'imagine your vagina is a rosebud opening up', if DH actually managed to get the words out without sniggering, i would end up losing focus completely and burst out laughing.

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 19:57

someone mentioned the partner workout for the Tara Lee DVD earlier. I did it with DH recently, we had already done the Erin whatshername partner workout and she uses her husband as a partner, so DH was quite excited when Tara's partner was a women and spent the whole time making dirty remarks whenever they got close, which i tried to tut but usually ended up giggling.

LadyThompson · 16/09/2008 20:02

'Gates of Life' - oh my sainted aunt, Turnip, that's priceless. I can't cope with that sort of chat. I would probably be a better person if I could be less cynical. I don't want to be too scathing because I genuinely don't want to rain on anyone's parade on here if people take a more spiritual view of this whole thing than me (which frankly wouldn't be difficult) but 'Gates of Life' is certainly not what I call 'em and is why certain sorts of classes and groups are just not for me. Speaking of rosebuds, Sheila Kitzinger talks about people 'opening like a flower' which is another metaphor (well, simile) which has me but erm...and now I MUST leave the office as this is turning out to be the most nonsensical 'maternity leave' ever. And I am back tomorrow

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 20:03

sorry am slowly readng stuff i missed, i have midwife coming tomorrow (27 weeks and first IM check up booking in thing) so will have her measure my bump and we can compare. I actually dared to weigh myself tonight and wished i hadn't.

Also had a bath with DS tonight which was fun as we haven't done that for ages, we used to always bath together when he was little. He found it very interesting that my belly button would fill with water and my belly bar made a bridge over the water. Was cute until he started trying to pull the bar off because he didnt want the bridge anymore. However, the point i'm getting to was that apart from being so big that i have to wedge myself into the bath (it is a narrow bath) getting out was quite an event, i really need to get a non slip matt for the bath, i ended up having to pull the plug and pull myself up with the chain on the plug. Not pretty.

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 20:08

believe me i've seen the pictures of my gates of life at the time of opening and it ain't no rosebud!!!

i have to say i'm all for the classes but just wish that most hadn't been developed by Americans. I think if some nice British ladies had sat down and worked out the words it would have been a bit easier to take. And if some of my Aussie compatriots had done it, it would be straight to the point like 'imagine your vag opening like a bottle of bubbly on melbourne cup day'

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 20:09

sorry was that a bit too crude

chutneymary · 16/09/2008 20:17

Hello girls

Have read but can't post much as I've got some work to do for tomorrow before I can go to bed. DD1 very much awake which is annoying though as I need to go downstairs and get on.

Gates of life - hilarious! Suffice it to say my gates of life were locked and chained in my first labour and both girls had to climb over the fence instead to make their way out. Ina May very famous and much revered on here but not my thing really.

Drink - I've had 3 or 4 a week as well. With DD1 we had a great week in Barcelona which necessitated a glas of wine a day. She's fine, although doesn't sleep much. Was the same with DD2 and she sleeps like a brick. She had the MMR today and has been very grumpy, the poor love.

Arti - the house sounds great! I'm too much of a coward to do a big mortgage but I reckon that now there are a lot of bargains in the market and so if you are brave you should go for it!

Food - sweet and savoury here. I don'[t go for cake much when not pg but can't stop at the moment. Had some goat's cheese pasta last night which was great, but then read the label and it said goat's cheese not recommend if up the duffer. Oh well, I'm still alive .

Meet up - I can't do this Friday alas but may be able to make next Friday - is it actually happening? And if so where is it?

It's my birthday tomorrow and I'm going to be OLD, so wish me luck!
