Woweeeee! that sounds amazing! i want one toooo!

artichokes · 16/09/2008 12:06

West London - zone 2. It is too expensive for us and I have to admit that is a major problem. My mum died a couple of years ago and we managed to sell her lovely flat at the top of the market last summer. I keep thinking that means I can afford a much nicer house in London but the truth is that the money from a big flat in Sussex buys you about one extra bedroom in our area of London . I am on hold to the mortgage broker as I type but I guess this is not the week to persuade a bank to lend us loads and allow us to over extend... I should be realistic but I just can't be (DH is despairing and muttering about nesting hormones).

emmanbump · 16/09/2008 12:12

Wow Arti good luck. You have sold that house to me. Sounds idillic. I want one too!!! If only money was no object (day dreaming now).....

mibbes · 16/09/2008 12:17

Yikes there is so much to do for a wee baby ! However, am encouraged by your words of wisdom and experience Veggie and jam. thanks

Beans my record so far is 4 wees in one night - I find that I can wee, brush my teeth then I need again, it is constant ! The thirst is normal as all the extra blood pumping through your body requires extra hydration - I just drink as much as I need in the evening now and put up with the night time loo trips - I now have them down to a fine art, I don't put on any lights and barely wake up ! LOL at your label sticking out , nice top though !

emma how scary for you , it is tricky being a first timer as you are never entirely sure what to look for/expect. Glad all has calmed down and as we have said before on here, chocolate fixes everything

Arti my Tara Lee yoga dvd has some poses to help a breech baby turn - mainly just get onto all fours and lie with legs elevated - I'm going to get a gym ball too and try bouncing on that - let's hope those little blighters spin round soon Hurray for your BP and good luck with the house.

Summer LOL at your friend getting the kitchen man's butt into gear with details of dilation - I'll bear that in mind ! I could send you a copy of my Tara dvd to keep you going until yours is returned if you like... I'm sure it is all above board

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 12:17

Ha ha arti you inspired me to have a look at rightmove, even though we're not going to move in the near future. Had a look in the area I would like to move to, mmm...found some nice houses way out of my price range!! Plus of course the £2 million mansion with swimming pool...if only!!

JamInMyWellies · 16/09/2008 12:23

Ooh arti that sounds amazing!

Beans I am exactly the same as you am rubbish at speaking to people at things like that and at mums and tots groups am sure I come across as being rude but its just that I cant force myself to just start up a conversation. Tis rubbish being shy.

I begin my prego yoga in a couple of wks really looking forward to it.. If anyone is in the Chelmsford area there is a place called yogaviva where they give oyu the first month for free and they do masses of classes plus ones for your little ones and they give you a 3 month break after you have popped the bubba out.

Welcome Kim.

Hatty how are you feeling today?

Emmab that must have been a worry glad you have had your mind put to rest.

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 12:26

mibbes cheers for the offer, don't worry though, think I will get another copy and then just flog/give away the other one when I get it back! the annoying thing is, I hadn't even tried it, me and my pregnant friend and other halves had just watched the "partners" section while our other halves took the p*!!! emma sorry missed your post, glad all is well, it is worrying isn't it? I had some bad stomach pains and they really scared me, but before I could get round to the ringing the midwife (I was not at home and didn't have the number) they went away. When I next saw her she said they were nothing to worry about!

The midwife hasn't said anything to me yet about baby's position, I have no idea how it is lying?? when do they check? Is there any way I can guess myself? I have 28 week check up next week (but this is with doctor as they have to listen to my chest as I used to have a heart murmur). Should I ask?

Beans33 · 16/09/2008 12:32

How often should we now be having checks, past the 28 week period? I saw doctor on 4th Sept and he is following up on thursday because of slightly raised blood pressure. If I wasn't having that, I wouldn't have had another check til 9th October and I'm SURE you're meant to have a 28 week check. although could be wrong. I often am!!! 9th Oct one is with midwife.

Veggiemummy · 16/09/2008 12:38

OMG that sounds amazing, for £200k!!! can you talk to your bank about putting yourself in debt for life and renting your other place out.I want that house to be your Arti.

SL are you coming to any of the meet ups i could get DH to burn our DVD (i know thats naughty but you have already paid or one so not really is it) and i could get it to you or alternatively i could send it to you.

JamInMyWellies · 16/09/2008 12:45

I think every four wks up until just before the due date then its weekly, of course no idea if that is right but I think thats what happened whe I had DS, seriously my brain is rubbish you would think I would remember its not that long ago.

artichokes · 16/09/2008 12:46

Oh Veggie, I wish it was for £200k. Sadly its is £200k more that we can afford! The estate agent reckons they may take an offer £200k below their asking price. That would mean we could just afford it BUT we have to fine a buyer for our house first and nobody is buying at the mo. Ho hum. Think it is all a bit of a dream really.

Verso · 16/09/2008 13:13

How can anyone accept an offer that much lower? It must be over £1million or something for anyone to even consider such a huge drop . Am v now... I LOVE our house, but it is nowhere near as spacious and luxurious as that sounds!

On the new baby and time (lack of) - I'll just add my four penn'orth ... my Mum asked me first time round what I was going to do with my maternity leave as I'd be so bored (?!) and suggested I write a novel . This time round she has suggested I take on some projects for work . This is AFTER having two children of her own, and also in more recent memory seeing me BF on demand and having no time to shower, let alone 'potter about'. Unbelievable!

(Mind you, I must say if I hadn't found my sleep/feed chart the other day - don't ask... our local health visitors couldn't believe DD's sleep patterns - I wouldn't believe myself quite how erratic the whole thing can be. The 'sleep when the baby sleeps' advice drove me MAD. DD would sometimes sleep 1hr15mins... other times 20mins... and there was no way of telling when you put her down for her nap. It's great advice if you have a clockwork baby, but IME some babies just won't do schedules and have to take their own time to grow and develop a pattern of their own.)

Someone remind me why I'm doing this again?!

kmp1 · 16/09/2008 13:18

Beans My routine appointments are every 2 weeks after 28wks? But I have some friends at different hospitals with less appts than that so case by case really I think?

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 13:32

Veggie no don't think I can make the meetups as they are a bit far, and I would be struggling to get there in time even if I left work really early! Don't worry about copying it for me, I wasn't hinting, honest

I have to admit that I have no idea what to expect after the birth, I am just going to go with the flow I think....it's going to be hard at any rate, I think having too many expectations up front is a bad idea when I basically have no clue!

emmanbump · 16/09/2008 13:37

SL I'm with you on going with the flow. I am hoping it is more of a slight ebb than a flash flood though

zoejeanne · 16/09/2008 13:48

I'm another one getting less sure of what to expect as baby day approaches. Despite having watched lots of friends have babies in the last couple of years - I think I'm in for a steep learning curve. I'm jsut hoping to find some instincts that will guide me ...

beans I think you must have pinched my bladder - this morning I woke up and realised for the first time since I got pregnant (I think) I didn't get up in the night. And then panicked that I'd wet the bed luckily no such accidents. Hoping for another night like that. I'm like mibbes and am drinking loads, but also can got to the loo without even opening my eyes now (but I do have to check that the route is clear before I go to bed!)

arti that house sounds so lovely, wishing that a money fairy brings you that extra £200k soon

welcome kim

Beans33 · 16/09/2008 14:20

hahahahaha!

Beans33 · 16/09/2008 14:20

(that's a link, I haven't just gone completely loopy!)

waitinggirl · 16/09/2008 14:23

re: nesting... i managed to buy what looked like really useful clear plastic boxes with clip on lids today. thought something would go well in there, brought them home, didn't know what to do with them, so put them on top of the mess that is accumulating under the stairs. honestly...

have told myself that when this dissertation is finished i'm going to have a MASSIVE clearout and friends have offered to help. and now, of course, i've applied for an extension to the extension for the deadline for the dissertation. why can't i get an MA for procrastinating?

my best friend had her baby in NY last week - i spoke to her on the weekend and the first thing she said: "i only have one word for you, and that is epidurals" she said once she had the epidural, she was able to enjoy the experience. interesting...

as for facebook status updates on how dilated one is - i thought it was hilarious - she was having a home birth and her dh was updating. it had me in stitches!

LadyThompson · 16/09/2008 14:25

A big hello to Kim.

Turnip - how was the Waterside? I want to book the Fat Duck for DP's 40th - he's not been before, but I have and I loved it - but it's about 3 days before I have my cs and I'm a bit sort of hmmmm...Hope you CAN swing it for Friday...

Beans - I am as thirsty as all hell all the time as well. Hope YOU are feeling well enough for Friday as well. And sorry not to be seeing others who now can't make it, like Jam.

Arti - and you can't come either. Booo! The house sounds fabbo. Is it anywhere near me in W9? I lived in Bayswater until November last year which I loved, and I want to sell my Maida Vale flat eventually and buy back in W2 again, but I need to convert the loft (in fact, buy the loft from the freeholder) and all sorts of things first. In order to make your offer of £200k under the asking price attractive, are there any extras you can offer (such as saying you will complete in a short time?) I know you have to sell your place but is there any chance of renting until you do? I suppose that's a big ask, esp with a newborn. I am crossing my fingers for you though...

I hope all this London talk isn't really alienating because frankly I would really love to meet EVERYONE on here. Where's GettingBiggerBird? Everytime I am lumping myself I think how much more tired she must be, expecting two...

LadyThompson · 16/09/2008 14:26

I meant lumping myself AROUND. Back in the office, by the way. Some maternity leave

SummerLightning · 16/09/2008 14:30

Beans that looks a little creepy!! My friend who is currently pregnant and I were in mothercare at the weekend, and she saw a santa outfit a bit similar to that, and she said to me "If anyone buys me anything like that....she's not wearing it...they can sod off!" Which I thought was a little ungrateful sounding but quite amusing! At least i know what not to buy her now

wg I am not ruling out epidurals by any means! Re procrastination, maybe that is why you are called waitinggirl? haha. Planning your tidying and reorganising strategy is always easier in principle as well isn't it?? when I actually come to do it, i just wonder where to start!

Gah, crap, bugger. That last post was me. I changed to an anonymous name to post in the baby names topic as I was telling everyone DD's real name and did not want it to be searchable. Clearly I forgot I had name changed and now I have blown my cover. DURR. Have asked for last post to be deleted. Sorry!
