Thanks for the advice pinky and suiledon. Defnately something else to consider. We are going to try and push through the referral using DHs BUPA card; why pay for it and then not use it after all.

sorry to hear about DD suiledon; I hope she feels better and starts pooing soon. Being all bunged up is miserable.

sparkletoes · 05/09/2008 11:00

My sister has had terrible eczema since birth and she finds Oilatum can make it worse too. She has used Eumovate her whole life and uses others when it is really bad. She has also used Epaderm but she prefers Emulsifying Ointment (more or less the same tho just even thicker).

suiledonn · 05/09/2008 11:00

Thanks. The annoying thing is that until we started the medication she was going most days, albeit with a bit of difficulty. Now on the medication she has only gone 4 times in 9 days!!

LackaDAISYcal · 05/09/2008 11:00

your poor sis mum2becks. But, it rained on my wedding day, albeit not as bad as the rain we are having at the minute, and everyone told me it's good luck to have rain on your wedding day. I think they were just trying to make me feel better about it though, as I wouldn't say DH and I have been particularly blessed with good luck since then!

Fingers crossed she gets a break in the weather for some nice outdoor photos

LackaDAISYcal · 05/09/2008 11:01

lactulaose never works for me either suiledon if I'm ever constipated.

All this talk of weddings just reminded me that it is our 5th wedding anniversary tomorrow.

MonkeyMargot · 05/09/2008 11:15

Thanks everyone for your views on routine. I am not going to try and follow one to the letter, maybe it is the control freak in me...
mum2becks I'm sure the weather won't spoil a thing - your sis will be so happy anyhow. It rained on my wedding day too, but I did get married in December so I had no expectations of good weather.
When my sister got married last year, she was so precious on the morning of the big day about keeping all the dogs away from her dress etc (fair enough); however, by the end of the night, she was so drunk she actually got her friend to cut the bottom of the dress off so she could dance properly, and ended up passed out on the grass in said butchered dress . It looked like she was wearing a shroud!

Sparkletoes, no it is MS. It is just that sickness they just won't allow as a diabetic, becasue it normally upsets blood sugars. Also diaharrea, is bad for baby and mum, so I suspect they won't want me to have either for very long.

LackaDAISYcal · 05/09/2008 11:16

It's funny with photos like that. One of my favourites is a photo of a family friend (who was invited to the evening do but wanted to see me arrive at the ceremony) putting on my rather fiddly bracelet which I had failed miserably to get hooked on all the way there in the car due to my new for the day salon talons. It had been bought for the day especially and I wasn't going in there without it on!

MonkeyMargot · 05/09/2008 11:17

Suiledonn Congrats on reaching the 5 year mark! Quite a milestone!!

Oblomov · 05/09/2008 11:25

MonkeyM, it is Dozy who knows about routine. But I like it too. We have had discussions on this in previous AN November threads.

I read GF and EASY, prior to ds being born. Took on board what they said. Thought that GF was too strict for my liking but liked some of her basic ideas.
As it was, ds was a night baby for almost the first week, awake all night, slept all day. I was nearly at my wits end. Then all of a sudden, on day 6, he changed, And you could set your clock by him. I bf him at 6am,10am,2pm,6pm,10pm,2am. Becasue thats when he cried and I fed him immeditely. Honestly it was amazing.

My advice to anyone, who likes routine, is read the books, and take what you can from them, but don't beat yourself up over it.
Although I am a total routine lover, it pains me beyong belief to see people getting stressed becasue they baby will not FIT the routine.

You can wiggle it a bit , and try new things, but NEVER GET STRESSED OVER IT.

Mind you, that philosophy I think I can apply to all my baby/childcare views.

MonkeyMargot · 05/09/2008 11:40

Obs Sound advice indeed. If the stress of adopting a routine is greater than that of no routine, it kind of defeats the object. Most of my friends who've had success with routines have taken elements of e.g. GF, but worked it around their child and their lives. Which makes sense. And I'm sure I won't be trying anything in the first few days - just getting through it I think!!

Thanks for the advice.

mum2becks · 05/09/2008 11:47

Thanks everyone sure a lot of people get rain on their wedding day (I didnt but I got married on the coast of Florida so weather other extreme) my sister is very organised and had already bought some large white umbrellas just incase so looks like they will come in usefull!!!!

suiledonn congrats on your anniversary hope you have a great day tomorrow, whatever the weather

Sharon13 · 05/09/2008 11:56

Hi All,

A few hours away and missed so much already!! Anyway very tired this morning, baby was in very active mood all night and didnt let mum-to-be sleep very well!! Wouldn't be so bad but have such a lot on at work just now that I kinda need to be bit more awake...hey ho its Friday!!

Research on baby changing bags is going well - so far my favourite is from StorkSac but is quite expensive so might need to be dropping hints about Xmas pressie!! Dont know if its the best one out there but it looks so nice! Also saw a bag insert from Pink Lining which fits into any of your favourite existing bags which might be worth a look and you basically just transfer from bag to bag! This bag fetish is a bit much eh [winl]

Hope you are all good and will try to check in again later this evening - but have parents in law staying for weekend so dont want to be rude and beavering away at pooter all night. They are buying us cot-bed tomorrow so very excited to be baby shopping.

Take Care All

sparkletoes · 05/09/2008 12:05

Sound advice indeed Obs, MonkeyM I am sure some form of routine will find itself with you too, whether it comes from the books or not. Whatever makes you & baby happy and keeps you sane!

suiledonn · 05/09/2008 12:15

Thanks for the congrats. Hard to believe that this day 5 years ago I was in full wedding mode and here I am today with a toddler and another on the way, slouching around in pjs. The weather was great that weekend whereas we are in a full blown storm today.

Oblomov · 05/09/2008 12:23

Suiledonn, many congratulations. It was our 5th a couple of months ago. we both got married in 2003, right ?
Hope you enjoy.

Dozymare · 05/09/2008 12:51

afternoon all!

monkey I 2nd what obs is saying about routine - if you follow GF to the letter you are going to end up having a breakdown - I mean 8am go for a wee 08:08 brush your teeth etc but if you following the sleeping and feeding patterns you will have a very calm and happy home as everyone is gettinge nough food and sleep - i posted about what a nightmare we had with DS1 when we had no routine and how it all changed once we did..the key is to adapt to fit in with YOUR family and YOUR expectations...

Who was asking about changing bags? This is my one www.cathkidston.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=260-152-3-2&pcidl=&language=en-GB

Have used it for years for both kids and still looks brand new - do it in lots of funky designs as well and the cowboy design would be great for the SAHD'!!!!

It is dreadful weather here today - I don't feel like doing anything apart from eating when I am meant to be working....
Suiledon Happy anniversary, what have you got planned?/
obs how goes it today - feeling bit better????

DM x

PInkyminkyohnooo · 05/09/2008 12:59

congratulations on your wedding anniversary, Suiledon!

Dh and I have been together since we were 19 but only married since DS was born, 3 years.

MUm2becks it absolutely poured down on our wedding day! Didn't dampen our enjoyment of the day at all. Hope you all have a great time.

Ceebee and DM your blankets have been posted, bit of an achievement given the weather and the quite steep incline to the P.O!

If anyone does want a custom order of any sort, next week is my last one for custom orders. After next week, it will just be what is in the shop (which should be completed next week).

oblomov I hope the pills continue to work. I took cyclizine throughout my last PG and all was fine, they just made me very sleepy, but at least I could eat!

MonkeyMargot · 05/09/2008 13:00

Thanks Dozy - love the CK cowboy design!
Sharon- DH also liked the look of StorkSak changing bag - but I think they're about £160

PInkyminkyohnooo · 05/09/2008 13:04

I just have drawstring bag for nappies that goes in the bottom of the pram. I always intended to buy a proper bag but never got arouund to it. Those skip hop bags are supposed to be pretty good, I think.

LackaDAISYcal · 05/09/2008 13:07

I got a great bit of advice when I was despairing with DS and my lack of routine and him being nothing like the baby in Ready Steady Baby (scotland's equivalent of birth to five). After wailing at my sister for the umpteenth time "but the book says....." she just smiled serenely (she already had two DSs) and said....."but J.....Cam hasn't read the book" She had a point and I relaxed a bit more after that.

I have a friend who is currently sending herself potty trying to mould her baby into her routine and getting really frustrated and annoyed because the baby isn't playing the game!

DH is in an interivew at the minute for a job in Bradford....no more DH in absentia if he gets it and although the hours are a bit dickensian and he won't get to work from home as much, he will be home every night to put the DCs to bed and take some of the pressure off me. So, send him lots and lots of good luck vibes, please

LackaDAISYcal · 05/09/2008 13:11

I bought a nice big leather satchel type bag in clarks which has got room for all my crap and a couple of nappies and some lotions and potions as well. Anything else goes in a drawstring nappy bag or a canvas shopper in the bottom of the pram/back of the car.

How about a nice big and roomy courier bag for him? that can hang over the handlebars of the pram if needs be.

My nesting lasted the whole of about half an hour before I ran out of steam and in true style, I have left more mess than there was to start with!
