What does the day consist of when you get there, DunGunGirl?

OP posts:
DungunGirl · 10/09/2008 09:46

They aren't telling! It is supposed to be a secret!

DungunGirl · 10/09/2008 10:15

I've been told that there will be oppurtunity to flake out of certain activities if I don't feel up to it.

However, how do I explain why I am not 'up to it' to my team on the day?

ohhhhhhhh!!!!!!

LittleMyDancing · 10/09/2008 10:17

Hmmmm tough one. I'd say go - you'll probably have fun once you get there (I used to hate my mum saying that to me....) and it might take your mind off the sickness!

OP posts:
LittleMyDancing · 10/09/2008 10:17

Does your HR team know you're pregnant?

BEcause if not, you might want to tell them - there might be health and safety issues about some of the activities.

OddEyes · 10/09/2008 12:19

Hello!
Back from scan - bean had done lots of growing and has caught up a week so they happy to leave due date as is. Went for celebratory macdonalds fries at 10.30am!
Back in bed with cold but feeling much happier.
Dungungirl - I would tell boss and have the day off, unless essential - won't be team building if you sat at side of lake feeling sick. Not sure if this good advice - just what i would do.
Boots have a 3 for 2 on vitamins etc at the moment. Just bought 3 pregnacare packs and saved myself £12.95 Just thought might be useful to a few others.
Oddeyes 9+6

Gemzooks · 10/09/2008 12:24

dungun, I would either tell them or go sick, or just wait and see, but it might well be abseiling or off road driving or something, at the very least paintballing, bound to be something you don't feel up to.. I do sympathise as in these early weeks you feel like sh*t but don't get much sympathy as no one knows..

DungunGirl · 10/09/2008 12:38

Well found out that it is at a location no more than 30 mins drive from home - so that is ok.

Also spoke to HR person and they said that if I felt like I wasn't feeling like I could cope that I could always leave early.

Hmmmm....

They aren't making it easy!

If they had said it was paintballing...I could have immediately pulled out!!!!

DungunGirl · 10/09/2008 13:17

On a different note:

Anyone into maternity trousers yet?

I can still fit my normal work trousers but it is uncomfortable as they are starting to dig into my tummy & waist a little.

I started to balloon about this time with my first DC too....

LittleMyDancing · 10/09/2008 14:43

I have one of these

am currently on smallest bit of elastic, and it really helps!

Hi everyone

Haven't been on for a while as staring at the screen seems to exacerbate this wretched nausea.
How far in advance do you get notice of your 12 week scan appointment? I went to see GP at 4 + 6, am now 7 + 5 and yet to hear anything. I'm using Kingston hospital.

Oh - used to be Fraggle06.

DunGunGirl - thats atough one as i know what you mean going to work is bad enough. But i guess I agree with the others that as long as it is not dangerous you might actually enjoy it, and they say that the more active you are the less tired you feel (not sure i believe that but who am i to argue!!)And yes, no longer fit in to my work trousers so have been wearing the only skirt i own that is appropriate. I think the time has come to go shopping but wont by maternity anything until i reach 12 weeks as still very nervous!!

Brockster · 10/09/2008 16:20

Hi I'm new to Mumsnet.
I'm due 26 April.
And finding basset hound nose and nausea a tricky combination - particularly on public transport.

I'm also using Kingston hospital - I hadn't heard anything since my doctor sent a fax to them so I called them up and it seems I've been referred to Queen Mary's for antenatal appointments and scans. So I'm waiting to hear from them.

I'm addicted to Haribos at the moment.

PuzzleRocks · 10/09/2008 17:06

Thanks Brockster, i'll give them a call tomorrow.
Are you closer to Roehampton than Kingston? I wonder if I will get a referral, i'm slap bang inbetween the two.

conkertree · 10/09/2008 20:11

dungungirl - when they said you could flake out at times - had you told them you were pg cause if so, presumably whatever it is can be done while pg. If not and it turns out to be inappropriate, presumably you could back out with a not feeling well excuse which would be true, just not the full story.

just tried ds with egg again as he appeared to be allergic a while ago - turns out he still is - puked up everywhere poor thing. Just as well I'm not feeling too sick myself or it would have been a nightmare.

Hi Brockster - am with you on the Haribos - I have a pick n mix waiting for me.

lou031205 · 10/09/2008 20:41

Hi, had dating scan today - all well, 8+5 weeks, so due date remains the same. Another scan on 06/10/08 to confirm dates.

mathsmummy27 · 10/09/2008 21:09

Hello all. Well very exciting news mathsmummy has an interview for Vorderman's job..only prob is not sure when (if) to tell them I'm expecting! I would go for honesty all the way but DH says if I wait until they have offered job (ha! unlikely) then they can't discriminate. Can't believe i'm even hypothesising about this!

LittleMyDancing · 10/09/2008 21:17

fab news mathsmummy! I'm in exactly the same position, have an interview tomorrow for a fab job.

I posted a thread about whether to mention it or not for a different interview, and the overwhelming advice from HR bods was not to. The only possible use they could have for that information would be to use it to discriminate against you, so don't even give them the opportunity.

After all, Natasha Kaplinsky told Five she was pregnant just after taking their new, high profile, anchorwoman job!

What job are we talking about, looking fabulous on Countdown?

OP posts:
conkertree · 10/09/2008 21:56

good about the scan lou

sounds exciting mathsmummy - tell us more.

good luck with the interview littlemydancing.

agree its not relevant to whether you are able to do the job or not, so i wouldnt tell them.

Gemzooks · 11/09/2008 05:10

welcome brockster! I also want sweets the whole time at the moment, ate packet of fruitella on the way to work yesterday: gross!

Mathsmummy, I would not tell them. wait till they make the offer; well, wait till you start the job. AFter all, it is early days in the preg yet, you might not know yourself for all they know. I don't know, but would also imagine that filming for the actual appearing on TV bit wouldn't have to be daily, so you could in theory make a few episodes before the birth and start again quite soon after the birth and not actually miss anything..

conkertree, my DS has the same with egg. If he's given it say 5 times, he'll puke up once. So we've stopped giving it him, but can't find any reason, like he's had less well cooked egg and been fine and then hard boiled and puked. But is fine with egg as an ingredient in cakes or pancakes. Is yours similar? Do you think it's an actual intolerance or more to do with some eggs just being slightly dodgy enough to set him off? It's such a pity as they're a good food for kids and so easy to cook..

Gemzooks · 11/09/2008 05:11

good luck with job intv, little my, I agree, don't tell them!

LittleMyDancing · 11/09/2008 07:13

Gemzooks, you're up early, even accounting for the time difference!

Am up pacing the floor and rehearsing my presentation for today. Gulp. DS kept me up most of the night with a tummy ache so am definitely not at my best

Oh well!

DS doesn't puke when he eats egg, he just won't eat it. It's very annoying, when as you say it's such an easy meal for children. Tsk.

OP posts:
Gemzooks · 11/09/2008 09:55

good luck with presentation littlemy.

yes, I start work bloody early, at 7 ish in Utrecht (1 hour total commute from Amsterdam), so get up at 5.30 (4.30 UK time, yikes!). Thank God it's only 3 days a week. Anyway it's much less knackering than the first 6 months with a new baby !

V1KK1M · 11/09/2008 13:24

Hi, I hope you are all keeping well. I added myself on to the latest list as I seam to have disappeared.

Re the job interview, I was going for jobs but decided not to tell them. I didn't get the one I wanted for other reasons so have just decided to stay where I am. I wouldn't tell them because if I was in thier position I wouldn't have hired me!!!

All Ok here except for a terrible migraine (which I had with DD and it took 5 weeks to go).

I have also changed my due date as Dr. thinks it may be earlier but I still think I'm right (and I should know)! But it means I get the scan earlier so I am not going to complain.

I still haven't got my booking appointment/scan through yt so I am going to chase next week when I will be almost 10 weeks!

littlemy - hope the interview went/is going well.

gemzooks - not sure really - he's had it three times and been sick twice - maybe he didnt have very much the second time. I'm pretty sure the eggs are ok cause they all come from our chickens so are no more than 2 or 3 days old, and as far as I know, none have any illnesses etc.

It was a wee bit scary cause his eye totally puffed up too - i wondered if he got some in it cause it was only one eye, and his face was all hot, so i put him in the bath and gave him calpol before bed but think i will be keeping away from them for a while.
