I had my mum with me when I had DD as DH wasn't back from Iraq. Dad was there at the beginning too but I booted him out as he was just sat there reading the paper and not helping In some ways I wish that DH could have been there but he wouldn't have enjoyed it as it was very touch and go and different points. DD's heart rate plummetted and I got told that theatre was being prepped incase I couldn't get her out in time. Then there was the bit where I was in and out of consciousness because of the PPH I had... It all sounds terrible but it was an amazing experience and really not that painful. I can't wait to do it again!

lol swaliswan - was waiting for the "i'm dreading it" at the end of your post so made me laugh when you said actually it was great. i am amazed by how your memory of it blocks out the worst bits (or it did for me anyway). I know it was sore, but I cant really remember the pain as such.

tristaleejac · 29/10/2008 12:56

welcome to the list - the more the merrier

BabyBolat · 29/10/2008 13:07

Well my dad watched the football and the Miss World contest (from which he chose my name!) when my mum was having us I am pretty sure that he will not be involved!!!!

Swaliswan · 29/10/2008 13:09

I don't think that my brain has blocked out much of the memory of giving birth but it certainly did the hyperemesis And that's why I'm sat here feeling utterly terrible and swearing that I'll never do this again......we'll see

DungunGirl · 29/10/2008 13:18

Continuing the subject of birth partners...

With my DS I had both my mum and DH in the delivery room with me and as much as I loved DH being there, he wasn't actually the most active birth partner.

He loved the experience of seing his first child and SON born but he himself has asked to be excused from birth partner duty as he felt slightly uncomfortable for a long time after looking 'down there' when the baby's head was out!

My mum was a gem, all I could hear through the birth was her voice in my ear telling me to relax and breathe. She held my hand through the whole thing. TO be honest when I think back, all I remember was hearing her calming voice through the whole thing!!!

Mum is definitely going to be my birth partner again! DH has volunteered to be on babysitting duty with our son when time comes.

Babybolat

Re your post about names! My DH is muslim and we are trying to chose names that are culturally sensitive to his background as well as western sounding enough for me.

There are loads of beautiful girls names!!! We struggle finding boys names too....

Our son is called Ryan ( Westernised spelling for Rayyan ) so we are both happy. Finding another boy's name we both agree on is proving really hard!

BabyBolat · 29/10/2008 13:28

DungunGirl we are completely the same, we have found lots of beautiful girls names and I have my heart set on one in particular but I dislike all the boys names - as they all seem so harsh and completely different to English names! DH would like a traditional name but I refuse. So far we have had non stop discussions / mini fights about it so have settled on 3 (that again we are definitely not having) until nearer the time!!!

BabyBolat · 29/10/2008 13:59

Swaliswan - am tempted to write down all the issues I am having and when I think about having a baby again read them and decide if I really am ready for it!!!! I have so much respect for all of you doing this with toddlers!

LuLuBai · 29/10/2008 14:13

My reasoning for having another baby now is that if I am preparing mushy food, washing nappies every day, wiping the floor on my hands an knees 3 times a day, feeding the ducks once a day, going to playgroup 4 times a week, doing bath time at 6pm every day and often waking at some point in the night for one baby, I may as well do it for two....

Ha ha ha- that makes it sound terrible doesn't it.

It's not all that bad. In fact since DD got to 1 year old we have has SO much fun together.

And before you all think I am a neglectful mother for being on MN so much today - DD has a cold and has been snoozing on and off on the sofa next to me for most of the day. We have been to the library and done our errands and later we are going to feed the ducks again.

(Oh and apologies also for the horror post about hospital showers - I do think that hospital has a bad reputation for bathroom cleanliness and I gather others are much better).

tristaleejac · 29/10/2008 14:16

well girlies, I'm about to head off for today. I wont be on again til after my scan tomorrow. It's at 10.25 so send some healthy baby thoughts please. I am shitting myself! I'll be on tomorrow night to let you know how I got on.
Hey we'll see how good the phychic is who predicted I'm having twins.
Place your bets now........

conkertree · 29/10/2008 14:40

good luck tristaleejac - hope you get to see lots.

lulubai - the shower thing is certainly pretty shocking. the hospital my sister was in, RAH in Paisley was horrible the first time - holes in walls etc etc, but the second time was lovely - all newly done so they must have had loads of complaints. her ds2 was born 9 dyas after my ds and dh got stopped leaving the hospital with ds incase he was knicking a baby.

dungungirl - sounds like your mum was to you the sort of support that dh was to me, so i guess its just finding the person that can give you that support. i did insist that dh stay head end while the baby was actually coming out to try and avoid future issues but he still saw the actual birth - just from a different angle.
