New thread as the old one was full!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
conkertree · 10/10/2008 11:35

puzzlerocks - the only reason i wouldnt have one is that i'd rather someone else had to clean up and make the tea rather than me, but i'm sure other people do it - i'd just feel i should be if i was at home. But I can see why you might find it more relaxing to be in your home environment, and if the hospital is close by - sounds ideal.

Bubbaluv · 10/10/2008 11:45

Flirty, I had it done privately. If you've spent much time around cats then you've probably had it (which is a good thing!) but you are seriously unlikely to have caught it from stroking a cat while you're preganant.
Lots of people get it when they're children because you're crawling around in gardens etc where cats roam about.
Are you in London?

FlirtyThirty · 10/10/2008 11:52

Bubbaluv - thanks...yeah I'm in London.
I think it's highly likely I've had it too.
May look into the test...

Bubbaluv · 10/10/2008 12:06

Maybe speak to the FMC - they should be able to either do it or point you in the right direction.

Isn't it funny how Thalos wotsit etc are standard in some areas. They only test where I live if you come up as high risk, otherwise they don't offer it.

I'm waiting for my downs test result, only get a blood test on nhs here (another anomaly of the system). I was 1:3000 last time which makes some of your results amazing. Hoping to be about the same. I'm 34 now, but I know people older than me who had higher results.

Feel a bit better hearing about the cats and toxo as I worried about that last time. M/wife reassured me that stroking a cat will not cause you to get it, only coming into contact with fecal matter (yuk!). Remember to wear gloves for gardening though, just in case.

Jumbs · 10/10/2008 13:01

Pruners, really sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better about it with time. All the best.

PuzzleRocks · 10/10/2008 13:03

Pruners

So sorry to hear your news. Take care. x

B52s · 10/10/2008 13:15

Hi all. Had my bloods taken this morning - about a gallon - I really hate those needles. Nearly fainted but just about kept it together. Saw mw last Friday and heard the heartbeat - so special. Scan next Thurs so am hoping to see little Newbie. Have been comparing bellies with DS1 - I show him mine, and he shows me his. So sweet.

Puzzlerocks - I am seriously considering a homebirth - DS1 was straightforward (wouldn't say 'easy') and our hospital is only 15 minutes away should I need to go there. mw is pretty supportive too, she's done 7 this year and thinks I would be a good candidate. Just need to convince DH that the lounge won't look like an abbatoir.

Still feeling tired and nauseous. Hoping it will stop soon and I'll get my appetite back.

Take care girls.

B52's - DH's first question was "shall I go to Homebase and get some plastic sheeting?"

B52s · 10/10/2008 13:56

MW reckons cheap shower curtains are good.
DH reckons the garden would be a good place.
Hmm - shower curtains, warm lounge, or garden, dog shite and low fences? What a decision.

Bubbaluv · 10/10/2008 14:05

Sorry Pruners.

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 10/10/2008 19:26

Hi Ladies,

Pruners - so sorry to hear your news. Keep well and make sure your DH looks after you. for you.

So haven't been posting on here for a while - I got a start date through for my job (5th November) and have been busy organising everything for that - cleaner, buying a car, trying to recruit someone to replace me at DPs business etc.

Am feeling very nervous about the prospect of working full time as I've been pretty tired lately, but I keep holding onto the fact that it's four and a half months of full time before I go on mat. leave, and then I'll be trying to negotiate four days a week, so fingers crossed they'll have found me indispensable by then

Feeling worried about the baby as well - bump growing well but can't help being nervous after last time. We have our specialist heart scan and 20 week scan at the end of the month (a bit early so they can look at the heart as early as possible) and I'm terrified. Seeing the midwife in a week, praying she can find a heartbeat, not sure why I'm so convinced it's all going to go wrong. Just stress, really, I guess!

mrsfossil - I don't think you're being irresponsible at all. My doctor said to me when I was asking about the tests: 'Before you have any tests you need to be sure what you would do with the results - if you wouldn't do anything like terminate, then why have the test?'

Hope you're all keeping well

MegBusset · 10/10/2008 20:49

Pruners v sorry to hear your news . Take care.

MrsFossil I'm not having the blood test/nuchal scan either. I just don't see the point -- I wouldn't have an amnio and I wouldn't terminate for Downs so why risk the extra stress?

mrsfossil · 10/10/2008 22:13

So very sorry to hear your sad news Pruners, take care.

Thanks everyone for all the reasurance about the tests. I don't think i will have any now as i know i wouldn't terminate for downs, so now its positive thinking as 34 isn't taht old maybe i'm not over the hill yet.

sleep well all

salstars · 12/10/2008 08:23

Haven't posted for a few weeks but all is well. After they found the second sac where the second baby never developed, I continued to lose blood for about a month! Not always heavy, but very constant. Hope I'm not speaking too soon but it seems to have stopped now so hopefully have got rid of the contents of the second sac.

In the meantime I've had a dating & nuchal scan and all is well. Saw my little one wriggling round lots and saw his little hands & feet. Didn't see a winkie but I am convinced it's a boy.

I'm driving DP crazy because I am constantly hungry - any time of the day or night, I feel hungry. Anyone else like this? My stomach keeps waking me up at 4am!

PuzzleRocks · 12/10/2008 13:44

Salstars - Great news about your scan. I'm thinking mine is a boy too, although I don't know why.
I'm constantly hungry too but I can only eat small amounts at a time or I feel really sick. I had two days where I felt great but now the nausea is back. Roll on November.
I'm really looking forward to Christmas now, i'm sure I will be feeling wonderful by then and I plan to eat my own body weight in mince pies and clotted cream. Hooray.

salstars · 12/10/2008 18:47

Puzzlerocks - that sounds like a great plan for Christmas! I hope by then I'll be more in the mood for sweet stuff - bring on the Stollen!

I have to take food in small portions too - it's so frustrating that if I eat one mouthful too many of a really lovely plate of food it makes me gag. DP has finished off most of my meals in the last few weeks.

loobee · 12/10/2008 20:54

Hi all,

Sorry i haven't been on for ages but felt so nauseous pretty much day and night until 12 weeks I didn't even venture onto mumsnet. Thankfully feeling much better now, just tired. I have started thinking about when I go on maternity leave and counting down shifts already- is that wrong?!

So sorry to read about those who have lost their babies, i really hope the pain eases as soon as it can. I found it much more emotionally painfully than i could have imagained when it happened in my first pregnancy. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to you.

Had my scan and they put me forward a few days to 18th April. I was secretly worried it would be twins as I've felt so much worse than last time, but there was just one. Was lovely to see a wriggling baby, looked just the same as my DS did- but guess they all look the same at 12 wks?!!

Totally agree re. christmas food bingeing- I am holding myself back from buying mince pies and stollen but it won't be long until I succumb!

oh god pruners, i just heard

I am so sorry.

LuLuBai · 13/10/2008 09:57

So sorry to those of you who have had bad news. It might not appeal to you, but after my mc a few months ago I made a list of things I could enjoy doing while not pregnant - and got pregnant again before I managed to do a single thing on the list.

Salstars - you've made me hungry mentioning stolen. Mmmm. We've got a great German bakery near us where they sell loads of different varieties in the run up to Christmas.

Mrs Fossil - on the subject of nuchal / amnio etc I don't think you're irresponsible - 34 is still young (I'm the same age - I have to say that!).

I had the nuchal because it was on offer although I would never act on it or even have amnio. As far as I'm concerned if my baby were to have Downs so be it. I'm reasonably chilled about it all. There are worse things that can happen to a child than be born with Downs. I think it would be much harder for DH to come to terms with though so I thought the results of the Nuchal might be helpful in encouraging him to think about it (was 1:2500 so nothing to worry about anyway).

BabyBolat · 13/10/2008 12:32

Hi all

This thread moves so fast - have been away for three days and took me ages to catch up!

Pruners, I am so sorry - there's never a good thing to say but take care of yourself!

MrsFossil - I second what everyone else has said - I had the test but only because it is my first baby and I literally said yes to everything that was on offer to me! I wasn't actually that bothered about the results - They could have told me I was having a one-eyed alien and it wouldn't have affected my decision in anyway.

PuzzleRocks - I now want mince pies more than anything else in the world! Will they stock them in Sainsburys?

I thought the worst of the nausea was over but have been really suffering the past couple of days - it's more the retched taste in my mouth that will not go away!!! Any ideas to get rid of this?!!!

PuzzleRocks · 13/10/2008 12:35

BabyBolat - They have a wide range in store already . I know where DH is going before he comes home tonight!
