Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
surprisenumber3 · 09/10/2008 16:07

HI Sal, my combined risk is 1 in 22000 so it's right

surprisenumber3 · 09/10/2008 16:21

GingerSarah - I am NHS booked and just booked the private scan as a one off. It was £170 for the scan and bloods, including lots of pics and a dvd. If I have another scan then it will be at a reduced rate of £100 or so.

I booked with M.U.M.S. in Solihull, if you're anywhere nearby, they're fantastic!

conkertree · 09/10/2008 16:37

hi everyone - sorry to hear your news stork - take care of yourself.

had my scan today and was great - i'd been really nervous and it seemed to take her forever to find it, but it was there and measured axactly to the dates we thought so was great. all sinking in now that its really happening.

private scans sound good but i really just can't justify the expense just now (job is not 100% secure just now given the current housing market).

conkertree · 09/10/2008 16:38

found out today that the hopsital i go to has finally got a birthing pool though so thats great (even though there's only one so the chances of it being free are pretty small).

Bubbaluv · 09/10/2008 17:04

I'm so sorry Stork. Have a hot bath and a good sob.
Gingersarah, where abouts are you? If you're in London then the Fetal Medicine Centre would be a greta place to start if you want to find out about private scans/cvs/amnios etc.
Conker, I am getting a visualisation of 2 naked labouring women wrestling to get to the birthing pool it might actually help move things along!? If you hired a pool would they let you bring it in?
I'm def feeling movements now, but I think if it was my first time round there's no way i'd recognize them for what they are.

BabyBolat · 09/10/2008 17:05

Hi Sal, I was one in 25000 so think yours sounds pretty good.

Have been getting weird little movement / pains quite low down in my tummy today - are these normal, they hurt mildly and only last a few seconds then is fine - could they be growing pains?!!

Wow conkertree do you think that you will go for the birthing pool? Glad the scan went well - got my 20 week scan date through this week - can't believe it's only in four weeks!

BabyBolat · 09/10/2008 17:08

Oh Bubbaluv I have a very wrong image in my head now !

What do they feel like exactly?

OddEyes · 09/10/2008 17:09

Hey girls, all your nuchal scores are great. Mine is low but only 1:8,000 so not as happy as last time as was tens of thousands. Your always going to worry though aren't you!

Hope all well, so sorry to read of the recent losses. Take care girls and best wishes for the future.

I have lost the morning sickness but am still tired. Lots of deadlines at the moment so only managing a scan read now and then.

Take care all.

A bit like bubbles bursting.

I know - it's a bit like a Lynx ad, but with enormous bellies!

OddEyes · 09/10/2008 17:13

just read a few of you feeling movements - me too! felt them at 18 weeks last time but these certainly feel like that old sensation and all in same place. so must be just thought it was super early.

surprisenumber3 · 09/10/2008 17:21

I have a feeling like bubbles bursting too, especially is something is pressing on my tummy.

I was 23 weeks with first pg, about 15-16 weeks with second, so I suppose at 13 weeks is quite possible third time round??

ClarkKent · 09/10/2008 17:48

Hello,

I'm new ! Being lurking for a wee while... and I know my Mum reads all the threads (Hi Mum !) so I've not being saying anything up to now. However, had a good scan yesterday so feeling a bit more comfortable to say Hello.

I'm due April 12th and have one DS already.

I'm interested to see people's nuchal results and how people feel about them... we've been given a combined test result of 1:166, which is slightly higher than last time, but then I'm older (38) and I'm feeling fine about it. We are having no further tests, as last time, as the tests are higher risk than the result.

SalBySea · 09/10/2008 18:28

wow! I was just hoping for at least the risk for my age 1:1066 and was kinda thinking of only having an invasive test if the risk of downs was higher than the risk of MC (1:100) so wasnt aiming too high and am delighted

I doubt I'll feel anything for a while, Its my first and I have IBS so my belly is a pretty busy place anyway so I dont think I'd notice it

surprisenumber3 · 09/10/2008 19:03

sal, the risk for my age (32), was 1 in 600 so to be given 1 in 22000 was fantastic news! Apparently that's the same as a 15 year old

surprisenumber3 · 09/10/2008 19:05

Clark - I have read some posts on here of people results being as high risk as 1 in 2 and everything was fine.

I think it is very much a personal decision on what steps to take if you get a high risk. I had high risk for an abnormality in my second pg, but baby was fine. I had no invasive tests, just a detailed scan.

mrsfossil · 09/10/2008 19:16

hello all glad your scores are coming back low risk. I feel a bit bad really as i refused the test. I'm 34 and we have been ttc for 4 years and ended up paying for treatment. I can't even think that there maybe something wrong with my baby. I now i couldn't make the decission to end this pregnancy if they found something wrong.

Am I being irressponsible for not having the test considering my age?

brettgirl2 · 09/10/2008 20:21

You aren't that old. I don't know whether to have the test or not - it's only a probability anyway. The thing is that I don't really understand the obsession with downs, there are loads of things that children can have wrong with them that don't come up on any test. If you feel that you will love your child regardless I don't see how that is irresponsible?

OddEyes · 09/10/2008 21:54

mrs fossil - no, no way irressponsible; it is totally personal choice. I had just cause i was part of the scan and would prefer to know now if may be a bigger chance of problems ahead, we wouldn't of acted on a big probability of a downs baby either, just wanted to have a little warning.

SalBySea · 10/10/2008 00:02

mrsfossel - not at all
in fact you're probably doing your baby a favour by avoiding all the stress of waiting for results

brettgirl2 - its not really an obsession with downs in particular, its just that that is one of the tests available at this stage. We ticked everything - Aids test, thalassemia test, rubella and downs. Its just that the downs one is a little more complicated than the others as its not a simple negative or positive

PuzzleRocks · 10/10/2008 08:13

Good morning April ladies

I had my 12wk scan yesterday and now i'm on cloud nine. Baby looked very chilled and cosy and the pictures were really clear. DH and I both got the feeling we knew the sex although we obviously couldn't see anything. Here's to December when we can find out.
How exciting that people are feeling movements already!

Is anyone else considering a home birth? I'm giving it some serious thought, I wonder what your opinions are?

Juliette108 · 10/10/2008 10:28

Sal thanks for passing on the midwife comments about the scans. That is reassuring.

Re blood tests, has anyone had a toxoplasmosis screening? I admit I am paranoid as I lost my first baby to parvovirus but it does gall me more than a little that thalass and sickle cell are standard for me (I am caucasian so not in risk really) and we don't get offered toxo at least. In Italy and France it is standard.

I have come back from holiday worried and wonder if I should just get tested for toxoplasmosis to put my mind at rest.

PS Do you think it would be worth starting a fresh thread?

Bubbaluv · 10/10/2008 11:13

Juliette,
I had the toxo test and it showed I had had it which meant I could realx about some foods a bit more (I worked in the food industry so was worth it for me).

Re the amnio risk mentioned below, I read refently (on MN) that the risk these days is actually nowhere near 1:100, an you can generally find out the miscarriage rate of the doctor you would get to perorm the procedure. I think the person posting was saying their doctor had 2 mc in 15 years of doing the procedure, so not as risky as we are sometimes lead to believe. Not sure if that helps anyone.

Bubbaluv · 10/10/2008 11:15

Puzzle,
I couldn't do a homebirth. If something went wrong and I couldn't get to hospital in time I could never forgive myself.
Just my personal feelings though. I know a lot of people really like the idea.

PuzzleRocks · 10/10/2008 11:25

Bubbaluv, I agree, that was the main concern which stopped me with DD. This time, however, the hospital is a stones throw away so not a worry at all.

FlirtyThirty · 10/10/2008 11:35

Bubbaluv - who did your toxoplasmosis test? I would be quite ken to have it done (parents have a cat and I'm a compulsive stroker of stray cats - just can't help myself!) I knwo that it's unlikely I have caught it just from stroking, but all the same..I'd be keen to be sure. Can I request they test when they do my next set of bloods or do you have to have it done privately?
