New thread as the old one was full!

OP posts:

BabyBolat · 02/10/2008 12:01

Good luck with your scan Gingersarah - I lost the nausea for a few days before my scan but it soon came back so enjoy it while you can!!!!

Bubbaluv · 02/10/2008 12:02

Ah yes, sorry - 90% for 6 weeks then £117.18 for the rest of the time. Clearly baby brain has had lasting effects! Still it's better than nothing!

Jumbs · 02/10/2008 13:52

How are we today ladies? I'm not sick anymore, hurrah! I don't know when it stopped, it has just crept up on me. Damned hungry all the time though now.

I'm lucky, I get full pay for 6 mths then the SMP for 3 mths. Had 9 mths off with DS and always planned to have a year with no.2 as it will be my last chance (no more for me unless I have a big lotto win) and having two in nursery is gonna be bad enough so I need to put that off as long as poss.

How much mat leave is everyone else thinking of having? Also starting to think about when I'll go, something to look forward to after xmas eh?!

BabyBolat · 02/10/2008 14:21

Wow Jumbs - what sort of company do you work for - that is amazing!

I am feeling so much better too and keep eating constantly (which normally is toast as that is the easiest and closest thing to me!!!)

I think I am going to work as close as possible to the birth and depending on how I feel (having never done this before) will probably take a around six months - all depends how it goes really!

Isn't it weird to think that it is only 12 week until Christmas (to the day) and then after that it will be only 12 or so weeks before we start seeing a few of our group actually give birth!

babypringle · 02/10/2008 14:27

babybolat - I've started sleepwalking too. I've always sleptwalked a bit, but it has been really bad for the last few weeks. Poor DH keeps finding me wandering around and then embarasses me in front of friends by telling stories of my antics.
I get 20 weeks of full pay followed by 19 weeks of SMP, so I'm pretty lucky. I'm a bit worried by the childcare voucher issue tho - there was a thread a few weeks ago about the impact of taking vouchers on the calculation of maternity pay. I've asked HR and they gave me a really vague response. Did anyone else see the thread and actually understand it??

BabyBolat · 02/10/2008 14:49

I have never done it before, I have talked a lot (which is kind of a waking and sleeping bad habit) but never physically started enacting my dreams - but yes DH does like to tell the story to everyone!!!

Jumbs · 02/10/2008 16:28

I'm a civil servant, think the mat policy is fairly standard for all civil servants.

Going to work as near to the due date as poss.

Don't know about the impact of child care vouchers on mat pay though. Our HRS did mention something about it but hopefully they will advise me with sufficient time to go. I'll look for the thread and see if it makes any sense.

SalBySea · 02/10/2008 18:21

I'm pretty worried about maternity pay as I work for agencies. Due to the small amount I earn I dont seem to fit into any catagory - I'm worried that I might fall through the net

I miss my symptoms - they were reassuring (if a complete pain in the ass) and I was not ready to say goodbye to "feeling pregnant" till after my scan which is not till Monday

mathsmummy27 · 02/10/2008 19:19

i am plnning to work until one day past due date! idiot i know

Bubbaluv · 02/10/2008 19:23

Don't worry Sal, you'll start to LOOK pregnant soon!
BabyBolat, your stats are terrifying! I refuse to think that far ahead...another dry NYE - woohoo!
This time round I think I'd prefer an 80 week pregnancy. They are so much easier in than out. Cuter out though!

Bubbaluv · 02/10/2008 19:25

Sal, re mat leave. Can you contatc the HR depts of one of the agencies you work for? I'm sure you will find there is provisioning for people in your situation. Good luck!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 02/10/2008 20:26

evening everyone! Just thought I'd check in to see how everyone is - hopefully I haven't missed any important messages over the past week! LOL I think feeling normal again has made me forget about this thread! LOL Enough to keep me busy with around here with 2 toddlers...so not feeling sick and I hardly know I'm pregnant! Ever since last Wednesday (the day I was 13 weeks) the sickness vanished and I woke up feeling a normal human again - it was amazing. I'm finally able to eat ordinary hot meals again - no more several bowls of cereal a day! Only problem is, I've gained 5 pounds in the past week....and I really am already overweight! :-S Guess that's what eating food again does to you. Oh well. I'm just so happy to have the sick feeling gone - I only start feeling a bit yucky if I either let myself get an empty stomach or if I stay up too late at night. Otherwise I'm soooo much better!

Hope everyone else is doing OK too.

Bubbaluv · 02/10/2008 21:38

I'm the same as you Rachel, nausea has given way to insatiable hunger!

Just wondering who is and who is not going to find out the sex of their little wrigglers?

Personally simply cannot wait, my sister, on the other hand was adamant she didn't want to know, and one friend found out and wouldn't tell her DH!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 02/10/2008 22:20

Does anyone find out from their NHS scan or do those who find out book a private one? There are signs up all over the room I had my scan in which say it is this NHS Trust's policy not to sex your baby for you - presumably so you won't ask. I've never tried to ask, as we wanted to be surprised with our first two babies - though this time round, I nearly think it would be nice to know which baby clothes to get out of the attic, etc! lol But suppose it's not really any big deal - we'll know in April (or even late March, if my last one was anything to go buy - born few days early).

ToastnHoney · 02/10/2008 22:31

Hello lovely people! I've missed so many posts I can't hope to catch up - but hope everyone is doing well. Isn't it exciting making it to the second trimester? Glad to hear that people are starting to feel less nauseous.

I had my scan at 13+2 earlier this week and it was amazing to see a little person, taking big gulps of amniotic fluid and then getting what looked like hiccups (though I wonder if this means I have a baby with a drink problem already?)

Bubbaluv, I think we're going to find out the sex - DP is so convinced it's a boy and keeps calling it 'he' so I think we'd better find out one way or another just in case he's wrong!

I don't seem to be able to walk at my normal pace any more. I'm usually in a rush (ie late) and tend to walk really briskly, but over the last few days whenever I do that I get a sharp pain in my pelvis. It only goes away when I walk (agonizingly) slowly. What do people reckon, is this normal?

Bubbaluv · 03/10/2008 08:09

Toast, at this point all your muscles are relaxing and it can cause pains in your pelvis, so probably fine, but if it gets worse then speak to your doctor/midwife about it as there is something called SPD (which I know nothing about) which apparently also involves horrible pelvic pain.
Anyone know more anout SPD?

DungunGirl · 03/10/2008 08:38

HI ladies

All this talk of SMP is so bringing reality crashing down on me. I work for a small private company and they only offer the bare legal minimum.

So it is 6 weeks 90% then the basic SMP for me! Oh joy! AND I have to somehow keep paying for DS's childcare space....oh my oh my oh my....

We are going to have to empty our savings accounts just to survive paying the bills and the mortgage for 9 months...

BIG SIGH....

V1KK1M · 03/10/2008 09:03

Hi,

I have updated my details as I had my scan yesterday and I am due on 20th April.

I am desperate to find out the sex. I even have a friend bringing me a gender prediction test from the states (although I know it;s just a bit of fun)! My 2nd scan is on 27th November so hopefully I can find out then

Morning all

Dungangirl - I am pretty sure I am in the same boat as you, and as we only got married last november and the pregnancy was a bit of a surprise, we don't have all that many savings to raid! we will be fine it's just annoying that companies can't / won't do anything to help!

Bubbaluv - I am not going to find out - as it's my first I kind of want it to be a surprise (much to the annoyance of DH and his family who are desperate to find out) but I can't let him because if he is crap at keeping secrets so he will end up telling me!

MathsMummy, I think I am going to do the same as it will give me more time to be with the baby!

On the subject of growing, I am now 15 weeks and feel about 6 months pregnant! I look so pregnant (thankfully it is all out in front at the moment - fingers crossed it doesn't start spreading!!!)

Bubbaluv · 03/10/2008 10:38

I don't look pregnant yet, just look like I ate all the cake.

BabyBolat · 03/10/2008 11:23

ha ha - I am sure you don't! Although I did have cake for breakfast today - was yummy....

mrsfossil · 03/10/2008 13:38

hello all glad to hear we are all happy and healthy, Had scan this week and my little baked bean now looks like a proper mini person kicking and waving. Im 13 weeks today and still in my own jeans even though i now have big muffin top. Yesterday a neighbour pointed at my tum and said "sure there isn't 2 in there" I resisted the urge to say well i look fat because i'm pregnant whats your excuse.

Isn't it funny how people would never comment on your weight to your face or touch your body normally but as soon as you are with child its open day for cutting remarks and intrusive prods. A friend had some one ask if her baby was growing ok as she didn't look big enough, she pannicked and went to see her mw convinced her baby had stopped growing.

Does anyone think we could turn this around and start commenting on non pregnant peoples weight then if they look hurt blame it on our hormones ? could be fun

surprisenumber3 · 03/10/2008 13:41

Hi all

Need to change my due date as have just been for my scan and I am 4 days behind what I thought I was.

Was so lovely to see him/her wriggling around! The sonographer said she had her suspicions it was a boy!

babypringle · 03/10/2008 14:51

bubbaluv - we already know that baby's sex . the consultant told us at the nuchal fold scan. we are not telling anyone which until its confirmed at the 20wk scan tho, would be awful to tell everyone one sex and for it to actually be the other lol

Bubbaluv · 03/10/2008 15:49

My consultant said he was 80% sure of the sex and said that's about as sure as you can be at that stage. So we've just said to people that it's probably a boy but it's still TBC!
I thought I'd be dissapointed to have another boy, but I actually felt quite good about it. DS1 is such a lovely lad, I could happlily have another like him!
