Morning all

LittleMy, its a really difficult position to be in, on the one hand if you really like the job and think it is something you want to do, then go for it but do you want to work for someone that makes you feel so uncomfortable?

Hope you can work something out.

Hope everyone is feeling OK - I am feeling pretty rough today - only made it one stop on the train and then had to come home as the sickness was just too much! (so much for it all stopping at 12 weeks!!!

Have just updated my date on the list....

Morning LittleMy - I've just read your post on the other thread. I agree with the latest posts - take the job, be brilliant. You have 7 months to make an impression - that's more than enough time. I really don't think they will cause problems for you once you start - it wouldn't be in their interests at all. You can apply for flexible working when you come back from maternity leave. People may be a bit frosty at the start before they get to know you - but if you can get through it and prove you are serious about the job the benefits will be worth it. Not least, as you say, because you will get maternity pay and more security - which is not something to give up lightly in the current economic climate.

Go for it! You can see from their perspective why they might try to dissuade you from taking the job now they know you're pregnant, it would save hassle for them to find someone who isn't, but in the long term it will stand in your favour that you told them at an early stage - it shows you are honest. Also, you don't have to start the job worrying about how/when to tell them/what their reaction will be - you can just concentrate on proving to them how right they were to offer it to you in the first place.

It might be worth carefully composing an email confirming your commitment to the role and delight at being offered the post.

Anyway - hope it works out for you... and congratulations on the job offer! When are you making the final decision?

P.S. I saw my baby at the drop-in clinic yesterday for the first time. I think I had persuaded myself it would be bad news so I burst into tears when I saw it lying there all cosy in it's sac and heart beating away like the clappers

Feeling much much happier now... proper scan in 2 1/2 weeks but they changed my dates at the scan yesterday - I'm one week later than I thought (9+5 today), so now due on 26 April. I'm sure it will change again!

Ah Bicnod that is fabulous news!!! really really pleased for you! now you can look forward to your proper scan and enjoy the vomiting and nausea knowing it's all for a good reason!

They do look so cosy and chilled in there don't they! Feels weird that in less than seven months we will all (fingers crossed) have our little bubs with us!

hopeful1 · 26/09/2008 11:48

I am sooooo scared, I have convinced myself that bean hasn't made it. I have got scan on weds but don't think I can wait until then and private scan is £160. He said I should wait until weds, he is very kind but still worried, I am usually so rational. Saw heartbeat aty week 9...whats wrong with me?!!!

hopeful1 · 26/09/2008 11:48

He being DH

Bicnod · 26/09/2008 11:57

Hi hopeful - I was exactly the same... had totally convinced myself that there was something wrong. Have you any reason to suspect there's anything wrong? I think it's totally normal to be scared in the first trimester... is it possible to find out if your hospital has a drop-in clinic? That's how I had an early scan (my proper scan isn't for another 2 1/2 weeks... would have gone properly crazy waiting!)

BabyBolat - thank you! I'm so relieved. Still only tentatively excited as only 9+5 - but every day is one day closer to the magic 12 weeks. I am going to tell my grandma this weekend - can't wait, she's 91 and will be soooooooo excited.

SnoozyVic · 26/09/2008 13:00

Hi all

Hey bicnod, congratulations to you on seeing your bean safe in its bag

I've been away and just spent morning catching up on the last few weeks of posts... such a mix of news. hugs to all of you.

Had booking appt on Monday, bp was 90/40 which explains why I'm feeling so feak and weeble. MW said scan should be in next two weeks and NNUH website says they do first scan at 8-11wks so just hope they can stick to that!! But as booking appt was late maybe not? I just so want to see little spud and say hello.

And LittleMy, totally agree with Bicnod who puts it brilliantly - go ahead girl, and show them what you're made of!

BabyBolat · 26/09/2008 13:13

Hopeful1, I can't imagine what it is like but you have to do whatever feels right to you.

Ideally like Bicnod said you could find a drop-in clinic that you could go to over the weekend or this evening - good luck and try not to get to stressed out (I know that is a stupid thing to say!!)

Ah Bicnod telling people is the best thing ever! My grandad was ridiculously excited and mum has been showing everyone - I still can't stop looking at the pictures!

Kalikaroo · 26/09/2008 13:29

Just a quick update of my stats after lovely 12 weeks scan this morning - bean doing well!

Thank you everyone for your messages of support for neurotic me. There is no reason to suspect anything is wrong but I am just anxious!! I have arranged a private scan for this afternoon at 3pm because I can't take it anymore. Hopefully, I will be writing happy news soon!!!!

Bicnod · 26/09/2008 13:53

Good luck hopeful - will be thinking of you at 3pm. Let us know how it goes?

P.S. You are NOT neurotic - you are completely and utterly normal x x

salstars · 26/09/2008 18:34

Anyone else suffering growing pains/ligament pains yet?

I made the mistake of taking a gentle stroll for 1.5 hours on Saturday and then had to stand up at a function for 2 hours on Monday and ended up in excruciating pain and with the midwife advising me to rest for the rest of the week (also partly related to the bleeding i have experienced).

I was feeling so negative when the pain hit and feel guilty at wishing I wasn't pregnant.

Am on a more even keel now but so surprised at how hard it hit me!

Gemzooks · 26/09/2008 19:28

hi all,

back from a week's holiday in the Ardennes, need to catch up. Hope you're all well and not feeling sick any more!

mizzannie · 27/09/2008 10:37

hello have any of you 2nd/3rd timers given birth in a birth centre? we have a lovely one in our hospital but my worry is the no epidural rule. this is my first baby and the environment of the b centre is gorgeous, birthing pool, rocking chair, room for your partner to stay the night on the first night etc. i have had advice that the last thing i'll care about is the room and better to have the pain relief...
any experiences / advice vv welcome!
hope you are all doing well.

mrsfossil · 27/09/2008 15:15

Hello mizzannie

I planned a home birth with candles music essential oils etc with ds1 but had to go in to be induced. I could have handled the pain but because it went on for quite a while i lost my stamina and became exhausted and asked for epidural. Someone women have v.short labours and can handle the pain. A friend of mine refused all drugs and had great labours. But especially for a first baby when you don't know how your body will react then I wouldn't limit your options as to pain relief.

Have you had a look around the local hospital you might be pleasantly surprised to find it has all the extras. When i had ds1 there was a rocking chair tens machine birth ball and pool.

pinkdolly · 27/09/2008 17:52

Hi all,

So sorry to hear we have lost another one since I've last been on. I so hate these first few months.

Hopeful1 - How did your scan go? Hope all was well.

I would love to give try out a birthing centre this time. I planned a home birth with dd2 but didn't get it due to bad sjd and not supportive midwife. So I planne again with dd3 and ended up being admitted and induced 3 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia.

But I am one of those women you have to hate. My first labour was 4 hours, gas and air only. And dd2 and 3 were both 2 hr labours, just gas and air aswell.

Infact with dd2 I strolled into delivery and was pretty much told off by the midwife's because I couldn't possibly be in labour and must be braxton hicks.

Oh weren't they surprised when 30 mins later they were rushing like blue a*d wotsits trying to get their gloves on so they could catch dd before she popped out.

Obviously hoping for a repeat performance next time.

But I'm one of those people who hate needles and probably wouldn't have the epidural anyway. With dd1 I had to have stiches and complained far more about that then having her. I'm not good with things like that. I begged them to leave it as it was but they wouldn't let me .

Well, hope you are all well, I have my scan on monday and cant wait, I am all excited and nervous at the same time.

Ok, have a good weekend.

BabyBolat · 27/09/2008 18:31

Oh pinkdolly - I am praying that my labour is like yours, I had to run through my birth plan with my midwife last week and my response to her question about any special requests for the birth was, "yes, less than an hour and as pain free as possible!" hmmmm we will see!!!

MrsFossil how long are we talking about? Since I have started to spread the good news following my scan last week I have heard nothing but horror stories about labour (why people feel the need to tell you that I don't know!!)

MIzzannie, I really wanted to go to a midwife centre but actually having seen the hospital there is not a massive difference (although the midwife centre is more homely), but decided that even tho I intend to try and avoid as many drugs as possible for the birth, I quite like the reassurance of knowing that 1. If I need them or 2. If something goes wrong, that the hospital and everything I might need is there! Maybe if the first one goes well I might be a bit braver the second time around!

Pinkdolly, I am the complete opposite with needles - absolutely fascinated by things like that (not on other people I might add when DH had stitches I almost vomited) but love watching them on myself - used to have a lot of piercings when I was younger (18) and think I was more addicted to the process of having them done than the actual look afterwards.

Anyway hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! DH is cooking dinner (I am wondering just how long his loveliness is going to last!!!)

Gemzooks · 27/09/2008 19:15

mizzannie, my own experience was VERY long for first labour, and the same for a lot of friends, though some had very short labours like babybolat describes. My personal advice is access to epi for first baby, then rely more on nature the second time round (have to wait and see what happens with mine!). the first time I really had the feeling that my body didn't know what to do.

Re labour horror stories, it is annoying (like most things people say to you when pg). Someone on mumsnet said something very true which is that during it, it feels like the worst day of your life, and when the baby is born, it feels like the best day of your life, and I found that to be true. Also, the pain etc is bad at the time but it really fades in your memory, it doesn't mean anything to you later, if you see what I mean....

mathsmummy27 · 27/09/2008 20:54

hello all, just to add my good scan news happy little bean wiggling about. Now due 2nd April which is still a free slot YES!!!

brettgirl2 · 28/09/2008 15:34

Hello everyone, only just stumbled across this thread so please can I join? I am 12 weeks today and have my scan tomorrow (bit scared). Had dodgy dream last night about it being identical twins (despite having already had 2 scans due to early bleeding so I KNOW there is only one) with two noses each. Now you're all going to think I'm mad Anyway, I'll add myself to the list assumign everything goes OK tomorrow.

conkertree · 28/09/2008 18:38

hi brettgirl - and welcome to the thread. i've been having strange dreams too but no double nosed babies so far.

mizzannie - my experience was a fairly long labour - 17 hours first stage and 3 hours of the pushing stage but gas and air and a tens machine was enough for me because i was more keen to avoid an epidural than anything else - no reason really other than i just couldnt face the thought of a needle in my spine - but thats all personal choice. At one point i did start to feel that i needed more pain relief- but it turned out that was me at 10cm so it was time to start pushing and after that - was concentrating on that so didnt have time really to think about the pain.

totally agree with gemzooks that you cant avoid that it will be painful at the time (unless you are very lucky) but afterwards the pain does genuinely get dulled in your mind.

In my opinion, you will know yourself how you react to pain and so if you feel you have a high threshold - the birthing centre sounds great, but if you are not so sure, the more medical setting does have the advantages of facilities being right there if needed.

Claireykitten · 29/09/2008 10:30

Morning all.

Well I got a letter from the hospital last week telling me that they had got the results of my booking in blood tests and my blood glucose is raised so I now have the delight of having to go for a GTT tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it at all, the only thing I seem able to focus on at the minute is the fact that I cant have ANYTHING to eat or drink after 9pm tonight!

On a better note DH has been offered a new job which measn we will have SLIGHTLY more money coming in and I will have the car at home so I will have FREEDOM again I will be able to get out and about easier.

Mizzannie I noticed you said a birth centre in the hospital. I dont know if it would be the same but the hospital I had DS at has a midwife led unit which is basically absolutely the same as you described (not sure about partner staying over tho) but the midwives told me that if I found I couldnt cope or there were any problems they would just take me through the doors to an epidural or theatre or whatever I needed so I dont know if that would be an option for you. As it turned out I ended up going into the normal delivery suite but still had a water birth with just gas and air (that was after SCREAMING for an epidural on the way to the hospital!) so even if you did go into hospital it can still be a very relaxed calm experience and believe me I have a very low pain threshold so you could be suprised at what your body can manage.

Claire

pinkdolly · 29/09/2008 11:15

mathsmummy- congrats on your scan results.

I have just come in from my scan and am so relieved that everything is fine. Baby is exactly the right size for dates and apparently very photogenic.

I am so relieved after having lost the last one.

Still feeling nauseaus and tired, but glad that I got the scan over with.

Ok am being ordered to go and have a lie down.

Hope you all have a good day.
